The black garlic tonkatsu is the best ramen I have ever had in my LIFE and I've had quite a few bowls from top-rated ramen shops when we travel. If you love garlic and feel like dishes could always use a little more garlic, this one is for you (with an extra side of garlic, naturally!). My husband got the tan tan men with mild spice (he said it was savory, flavorful spicy and not burn-your-mouth-off spicy) and my daughter had the tonkatsu and loved it. My husband is rarely reactive about food ("It's good" is the best I usually get out of him) but he said this was "*really* good!" Wow that's 11/10 stars coming from him! The jammy egg was actually jammy! So often places overcook them but not here. I hope we are back in the area someday because I can't wait for my next bowl from Moto. Do not miss this shop! We ordered takeout on a Thursday around 11:30am and it was ready in less than 10 mins and when I went to pick it up the shop was maybe half full. Parking looked challenging nonetheless. I wanted to love this place because of the reviews and service, but unfortunately it fell flat for me. I would actually give it 3.5, but I bumped it to 4 for service. I ordered the pork bao bun and the spicy tonkatsu which are my go-tos, and unfortunately both items were lacking in flavor for me. The tonkatsu didn't have the unctuous depth I'm used to. And the bao bun, this is the first time I felt like pork belly was too much - the fat from the pork belly washed out all flavor in the bun. I wish there had a been a bright sauce to cut through the fat. This is a very very popular spot, I sat at the window bar since I was alone. It's a small restaurant that was full when I got in, and full when I left (I snapped a pic in between the parties leaving and before the next parties came in), there is a line and they have you wait outside once your name is on the waitlist. The food isn't bad but it wasn't authentic Japanese or even what I expected out of any typical Japanese fusion. I was craving Japanese but didn't really get that. I felt disappointed in the inconsistency in the food. I loved the green bean goma-ae because it had vinegar in it. It is not the traditional preparation. It tasted more like a Chinese or maybe Korean in flavor. The spicy miso ramen was just bad. The portion was huge but who cares if it doesn't taste good? It looked and tasted like Chinese style noodles that my dad would cook at home. The pork was lean pieces of meat, not pork belly or pork cheek. They were just tossed in there and cooked like a stew. I was expecting all the toppings to be laid out on top. Other than the noodles and maybe the egg, it didn't taste like authentic ramen at all. Takoyaki had good batter and a nice crust but two of the balls didn't even have octopus in it!! Also got this glazed pork belly dish, forgot the name. It was a generous portion but the sweet sauce on top was too sweet and again tasted more Chinese in flavors. Service here was great! We came right when they opened for dinner at 4:30pm. It was a good time to come because soon more and more people started to show up. We ordered appetizers from the Happy Hour menu. The tofu dish was lovely, and the grated ginger was a nice touch. The garlic edamame was ok, we didn't really taste much garlic which was odd. My cousin and I both ordered the Vegan Ramen and we were shocked at how big the bowls were. The broth was light and all the veggies were really tasty. We added in some of the chili oil and seasoning which brought more flavor to the dish. It's raining in LA and what better place to warm the belly than Motor Ramen with a big bowl of spicy Ramen! Moto Ramen is always consistently delicious with very kind and attentive service. Today was no exception. We started with some Yellowtail Jalapeño rolls and Gyoza and today are server explained to try it with the Vinegar and Soy sauce and blend 50/50, and it was delicious! Excellent recommendation! And the Yellowtail was fresh and delicious. The SPICY ramen hit the spot on this chilly day. I love the portion size here too! My experience here was decent. I visited this restaurant towards closing on a Sunday night. The service here was really good and my server was super nice. He was even gentle in reminding us that the kitchen was closing by a certain time which I appreciated. I ordered the Black Garlic Tonkatsu hot ramen and it was alright. The broth was tasty, but way too salty for my liking. The toppings were okay, but chashu pork was dry. I would've liked it better if the meat melted in my mouth. The portion was pretty good, it was was warm and it was filling though. The interior was fun in design and relatively clean. For parking, I believe it is just metered street parking. The last time I ate here was about six months ago, and it remains one heck of a place to enjoy delicious ramen and gyoza, though the gyoza was admittedly on the salty side this time. It came as a pleasant surprise that the restaurant wasn't crowded on Christmas Eve, and we were seated immediately. This place is still my local favorite ramen shop! I took my friend who's from out of town and he claimed it was the best Ramen he's ever had. It's always nice to introduce a friend to a restaurant that didn't disappoint and they continued raving about it all weekend. He had the spicy tonkotsu Ramen and I had the Dandan men. For those who love dandan men this place has a very good one. But man, I didn't realize how good their chicken karaage was. I love karaage and it was legit, one of my top 3 in the area...might be just as good as Anzu in sawtelle. Service was excellent as usual. The restaurant is so cute, very japanesy. This is our go-to ramen takeout spot, consistently hits the spot. My only slight issue is that the regular tonkotsu doesn't have quite enough kick, but the spicy version is too hot. Kids ramen is meh, though they love the karaage. Our other go-to is the gyozas, so good! If dining in go for their happy hour but get there early - we arrived at 5:20 as a party of four and weren't seated until 5:57. This is my go to Ramen spot ever since I discovered it. After I discovered the tan tan men ramen, I don't get any other ramen! It's my absolute favorite. We come here at least once a month. We love the fresh marinated garlic they offer. Staff is so kind. Check online to see if the waitlist is open because it can get busy. I am a self proclaimed Ramen connoisseur. From Japan, to New York to Southern California. Decided to try Moto based on the reviews. This place has about 10-12 tables and is small. We went on a Monday night and had to wait about 45 minutes. We ordered a few appetizers which were the stars of our dinner. First we had cucumbers which were fresh and lightly dressed. Very simple and refreshing. Next was the Chicken Karaage. Perfectly cooked and lightly battered. The battered was well seasoned and the chicken was moist and juicy. The ultimate star was the Pork Belly!!! Thickly sliced, marinated and perfectly cooked. The pork belly was fall apart tender and so good! I would come back just for the Pork Belly!! I had the Tonkatsu Ramen and it was good but not what I consider a top ramen. The flavor was good but it was missing the silkiness that a great Tonkatsu must have. My guests had Tantan Ramen and Black Garlic Tonkatsu Ramen. I tried both and although both were decent, I have had better!! We came here as a friend recommended this place. I like their wishlist system conveniently on Google maps so we put down our names and got the seat without much waiting. We were greeted by a super friendly staff (didn't catch his name though). He was funny and got things setup super quickly (even recognized my RF hat knowing I'm a Federer fan!). He also made good recommendation for a seasonally available cold noodle ramen which was topped with veggies, egg, ham and chicken, with a side of mustard and soy based sauce at the bottom. Very refreshing on a warm night! My husband got the shio (salt) chicken soup noodle, which I actually prefer more than my cold noodle due to its milder but more unami flavor. I feel the cold noodle was just a bit more saltier than I like, but it all comes down to personal taste as my husband likes mine better lol. Overall super chill place with good ramen options. They always ask about spice level and the flavors jump out of the bowl. The fact she said it lacked depth is laughable. Let me say again the flavors are amazing!!! Moto Ramen makes one of the best ramens in Los Angeles. I always order take out and every single time so far I've gotten the Tan Tan Men it's a pork broth based ramen. My favorite thing about this broth it's nice and rich and full of flavor it has a spicy nutty flavor to it! The noodles are perfect thickness they are not to thick or thin just the right. My wife's gets it with mild spice and I got extra spicy and both are great depending on your spice level. The service is always fast and efficient. For our to go order, we were informed that the wait should be 15 minutes for two ramen dishes, and that we would be alerted via text. 20 minutes pass with no notification, so we went inside to check. Other parties were served while we were ignored. More than 30 minutes later, after much chagrin, we finally received our food, which was just sitting there, waiting to be handed to us. It could have easily been prevented if someone just paid attention to the sequence of customers. I can't find decent ramen at home in Nashville, so when I was able to be in LA for 7 hours I had to stop for ramen! I found this place that was in between my meeting and the airport (to not risk being late) and I'm sure glad I did! I got the garlic edamame to start with and it was the best I've ever had - a little kick but not so much that it hid the rich garlic flavor. I ate it all despite also having a bowl of ramen coming... And the ramen bowl was HUGE!!! Filled with a creamy broth that was heavenly. The chili oil definitely cleared my sinuses (very welcome during allergy season). The ground pork was nicely seasoned and the noodles were the perfect texture. I ate the first half of it without the marinated garlic, then added it in. It added a unique "freshness" for lack of a better word. Knowing I couldn't take any on the flight I filled up until I could t eat anymore! Glad I wore stretchy waisted pants! The ambiance was very bright, and it reminded me of little ramen shops in Japan (but much bigger) with plenty of space and room for lots of customers. The service was impeccable. Been here more than a few times - and just noticed I hadn't dropped a review. Guess it's finally time I've been coming here for years, not just for the food, but the service and their Happy Hour! It's how/why a friend and I ended up here just last night. Staff recognized and remembered me though it's been a while since my last visit (when outside seating was still available - due to Covid). Place was hopping but service was just as great as always. Efficient and friendly. Like I said, hopping but still time for a little small talk as others also need to be tended to. Like I mentioned, no more outdoor seating, but there are tables and a short counter at the front windows looking out onto Washington. I'd have to say that large group seating might be a little challenging, but doable. Food was served fast and fresh. I'd like to think "as it should" as it doesn't require a lot cooking time. But even though fast - dishes still full of flavor and generous portions (see pics). Keep in mind, for the apps, it's happy hour. Flavors align with my palette and I enjoy their cold draft beer on tap - Sapporo. Good food and both good and friendly service is one of the reasons I really do enjoy this place. Couple tips: Street parking on Washington and meters only enforced until six. There's a plaza across the street but signage that Bar and Ramen parking is prohibited. Food was amazing at the place. Go during happy hours, they have great deals. I got the Tan Tan Men and Takoyaki and they were delicious. Tan Tan Men has that peanut flavor in it which made it so good. Takoyaki was good too, it's fresh from the kitchen so it can be hot, probably let it cool before eating. Waiters were friendly, making sure you have a good experience, great staff! Ambiance is great. Go early if you prefer less people. Service, food and atmosphere is top! read more
