My sister and I went to I Do Bridal and were beyond pleasantly surprised. Kelly treated me like a princess and with both parents having recently passed away, it was such a comfort to have Kelly. She is extremely attentive and knowledgeable. I had already tried on dresses at BHLDN and David's Bridal and had gone to a different consignment shop. I did not expect to find my dress at I Do. The beautiful part was that my sister and I pulled dresses for me to try on, but it was the last one, Kelly's choice, that would be my dress. I almost didn't try it on because it wasn't what I imagined nor did it look like much on the hanger, but Kelly knew. She has an amazing intuition about gowns. My incredibly picky sister is my only attendant and within minutes Kelly found her dress as well. My sister paid less than half of what she had intended to pay at BHLDN and the dress Kelly chose looks perfect on her and much better than the dress at BHLDN looked. I live in California and my wedding is Illinois, so it is perfect to have my dress there. My sister and I couldn't be happier about I Do Bridal, and the way Kelly took care of us like our mom would have. read more

Word of Advice: Don't waste your time and gas. Never experienced such poor customer service in my life. Drove 40 minutes from downtown Chicago to consigned a Stephen Yearick wedding gown. Never worn. Never altered. BRAND NEW. According to Yelp, the store opens at noon. I arrived at 12:21 pm, and found a handwritten note on the door (yes handwritten) saying that they were by appointment only. After calling the business phone number, the owner (I'm assuming) asked me did I have an appointment. After explaining to her, that I was not interested in trying on wedding gowns, but simply selling one-she rudely told me that her "ad" says "by appointment only". I have no idea what "ad" she is referring to, as I am a 30 year old woman who relies on modern day technology, like the Internet and an IPhone. Plus, who needs an appointment to consign ? (Shrugs). When I explained to her that I was unaware of her "by appointment only policy", and that I simply used Yelp to guide me to her store, she barked that she would be at the store in 15 minutes (despite her business hours), and how she couldn't be rushed any sooner. She then advised me to take a picture of the dress, and walk across the street to Walgreens and have it printed, to give to her when she arrived. The most ridiculous thing I've heard in my life. Not to mention- the 95 degree heatwave in Chicago. And the dress was with me. Why do I need to pay for a print at Walgreens ?!? Had she heard of email ? Furthermore, where am I supposed to take pictures of a wedding gown ---on the street ???? I told her to enjoy her day. I would never give my business to someone so tacky and rude. My advice: Give your money to a business that cares about their customers-their customer service is beyond poor. Customers should NOT have to wait in the heat for 15 minutes and spend money for a (printed) photo in order to do business with them. It's 2015. Come to work during your listed business hours and be a little nicer. This business is clearly stuck in the Stone Ages-along with their cold attitude. They deserve ZERO stars. read more

I hate to write a negative review, but I had the most frustrating experience with this shop! I made an appointment a week in advance. Like one of the reviews below, I was also asked over the phone for a detailed description of the dress I was looking for. I must have passed the test because she let me schedule an appointment, but asked me to call to confirm on my way there. On the day of the appointment (with my mom in the car from out-of-state to see this place!), I called on my way to the shop and got their voicemail but decided to go anyway. One LONG drive later, we arrived at the shop 10 minutes before my scheduled appointment time to find the lights off and the doors locked! The hours posted on the door said it should have been open at that time. HOW FRUSTRATING!! It was such a waste of the limited time I had with my mom. I would never return. read more

I was super excited to contact "I Do" after reading the reviews. However, upon calling to set up an appointment, I was asked a series of very specific questions, some of which I anticipated (date of wedding, dress size) and some I didn't (what EXACTLY are you looking for). I was also asked point blank if I looked elsewhere. I said no. She told me to look elsewhere before calling her. REALLY???? I don't understand why she doesn't want my business. I have a pretty good outline of the type of dress I want, but am open to suggestions and am not obscenely picky. I am so happy I went here. I originally called when I was getting ready to dress shop and Kelly told me to check out other bridal shops first so I didn't get sticker shock. After my nightmare with David's bridal losing half my dress I was back to the drawing board. I called I Do Bridal back and found the perfect dress! Well, this is a review I never thought I would write! I never saw myself getting married but fell in love with the right person and here we are. So a wedding and a wedding dress was never something I imagined or pictured in my head, I was starting from scratch. Found Kelly's shop while searching online for vintage dresses. I love vintage and I'm thrifty, so it seemed to be a good place to start. Visited another shop with vintage dresses and they had some beautiful things, but didn't quite find what I was looking for. Then did the obligatory trip to David's bridal for comparison, and new that wasn't going to work for me. On a whim, called Kelly and made an appointment. Easy breezy. She asked a ton of questions over the phone to get to know me, what I was looking for, and what our wedding day will look like. The day of the appointment, she asked me to send her pics of dresses I like so she could have some things ready. She responded saying that she didn't have dresses like the ones I sent, but that I should come in anyway. try some things on, take some photos, and see what happens. Good thing I did! Kelly's store is packed to the gills with dresses, all kinds, all eras. When I got there, she walked me through, went to an area in the back, waded through a ton of dresses carefully protected in plastic bags, and pulled out 4 or 5 to start with. I still wasn't sure how this was going to go, but I kid you not, I put on the first dress she selected for me and it was magic! I immediately knew it was my dress! Tried a few others on just to be sure, and I was definitely sure, it was the one. I had previously picture a shorter tea length dress, but Kelly suggested that I might be surprised that a long dress on a shorter person like me would make me look more statuesque. And it really did! It was the unique, artistic, elegant but non-traditional dress I was looking for. Kelly had great ideas for minor alterations, offered suggestions about accessories, and other wedding tips in general. She was laid back and the environment was no pressure. She smiled along with me when my mom called in response to the picture I had just sent her, gushing about how gorgeous it was. On top of all of that, the price was more than right! Couldn't be happier with my wedding dress shopping experience here. I hadn't given much thought to the style I wanted, but I knew I didn't want to spend thousands on a dress I'd never wear again, and really didn't like the fact that many of the (already expensive) dresses at BHLDN were polyester. I ended up finding a gorgeous silk organza dress at "I Do" for an extremely reasonable price. At my fitting, we added a veil that worked well with the dress for only $60. Shopping here was very different than the other bridal stores: you have to be a little adventurous, and willing to spend some time looking for the right dress. The flip side of having to sort through the inventory is that they really do have every kind of dress, including some vintage gowns, and a good range of sizes - not the case at every bridal store. Kelly, the owner, was so helpful and generous with her time - it's clear she's really committed to helping women find lovely dresses at a good price. I can't recommend this place highly enough. It's such an antidote to the feeling (ubiquitous throughout the wedding planning process) that someone is trying to sell you something you may not even need at 3x the price. It was fun to look through the sea of dresses!! I purchased a vintage bridal gown from this shop. The dress had amazing beading and lace. The color was worn out, it had shoulder pads, it needed to be pressed, among other things, but I loved & saw the potential of the dress. I fell in love with a gown that needed a lot of work! I mean a lot of work. Kelly, the owner, recommend Adele, who does dress alterations out of her house. Adele removed the shoulder pads, inserted cups, lowered the neck line, took the sleeves out, and that was all good. I would only recommend her for simple alterations though. She is not very attentive to detail of the dress, did not do a good job taking in the back, and would not remember what I wanted to be altered in the dress. I would not recommend her for the more complex alterations & I would not say that her work is quality. Additionally, she is not very professional when it comes to sticking to appointments. There were times when I waited outside her house for 15+ sometimes 30 minutes. I ended up taking it to another alterations shop, so that another lady can finish making the rest of the alterations. I ended up paying more for alterations combined than the dress itself. Advice: Check out this place, but if you do fall in love with a retro gown, take into consideration the cost of rejuvenating the dress.. I am with my second alterations person with more than 3+ fittings and its costing me as much as I paid for the dress. Also make sure that you select a credentialed alterations lady if you are looking to do lots of alterations on your gown. read more

Go here before you go any place else!! Phenomenal service!! Most of the dresses are from brides who wore them once, but some are from other bridal stores that need to clear out inventory. I ended up getting a never-worn dress for 1/2 off the designer price. Hannah was awesome! She made me feel like a bride and basically read my mind when I told her what I was looking for. Both Hannah and her mom gave me tips on things like bouquet size, posing for pictures, and transportation of dress abroad (destination wedding). To me, that is above and beyond what dress stores are expected to do. They are incredibly fast too. As I was trying on a dress, a bride brought in a veil that went perfectly with my dress. Hannah and her mom didn't wait to catalog it or put it in some sort of system. They immediately gave it to me to try on and I ended up purchasing both the dress and veil. Based on the photo here (above) I would not give this place a second look but I went to check it out based on a referral. It was really cool. The shop specializes in wedding gowns, but has a few bridesmaid as well. It is packed with all sizes ranging from 2-16 or so and they range in era from the 30s to present contemporary. Although I think they have more vintage. They can make alterations to any gown to make it exactly the way you want it. I found some I liked, but I wasn't ready to commit. There are not many very simple sheath looking gowns, which are my favorite. I loved it, it was a fun experience, and the woman who owns the store is awesome! Go and take a look, and be open minded. I LOVED my dress. I was worried about stretching my budget, but I ended up with a dress that my mom, mother-in-law, and friend adored for $600 (it was new). I can imagine things could've been a little hit-or-miss here in the selection, but I know two other women who got their dresses here and were equally happy. The store is definitely much lower-key than some of the other boutiques I went to, and if I'd judged the place by the storefront I never would've gone in. But the owner was really helpful even though I didn't have an appointment (I'd recommend trying to get one just in case they're busy), not pushing me toward stuff I didn't want, and she even let me try on a few "awful" dresses and take pictures for fun. I didn't use her recommended woman for alterations (called once, she never called me back, and I found someone else before I called a second time) but my friend who used her said she was amazing. If you are looking for a dress, this place is definitely worth a look. BONUS: most wedding stores take MONTHS to get you your dress. I was looking in November for a May wedding, and I wasn't going to get my dress until a few weeks before the wedding. Because I got the dress at I DO, I could take it home that same day (or store it at the store), get the alterations done on my time, and compare the fabric to my shoes and husband's suit/tie. This saved me a lot of worry and anxiety, which made this place (and the dress) even better! read more

I wish I could give 4.5 stars. The only reason its lacking a star is because of the seamstress referred by the store was disappointing. The owner, Kelly, just so happened to be the mother of a student of my maid of honor, which we found out when we arrived. She is SO good at her job. I heard good things about this place, and many have commented that you walk in with one idea and leave with something completely different. Well - its true! I came in 10 months before my wedding wanting a vintage gown from the 30s or 40s. I'm 5'9" and at the time overweight, and I had no idea how much I'd be able to lose before the big day. I had to come to terms with the fact that every woman from the war era was under 5'5" and a size -1 waist. Kelly did a great job of pulling dresses that fit my size and style. She knew I wanted vintage, but also off-white satin with little to no beading. After a few dresses I put on a very simple yet elegant diamond white satin spaghetti-strap v-neck gown, with a v-neck in the back and buttons going all the way down to the train. She was clever enough to add a beaded shawl she had picked up from a department store, and I was sold. I looked and felt fabulous! The style had enough vintage flair yet added a touch of modern glam. And I ended up losing enough weight to bring me down 2 sizes, so that's when the seamstress came in. I wasn't familiar with anyone else, so I went with the lady that Kelly referred me to, but in the end I was unfortunately unsatisfied. She could have worked with me a little better to fit the bra cups in the in the correct location, and to take in the dress in the right areas. But in the end I looked and felt great. read more

this has taken me a long time to write, but the whole experience I still on my mind so I figured I would share. I got engaged in December and could not wait to start searching for my dream dress. I am planning a wedding on a small budget so my mother did some research and saw great reviews for this place so we made an appointment for as soon as possible (which turned out to be a Saturday afternoon). when we arrived (in the cold and snow in January!) it took us twenty minutes of ringing bells on every door we could find, knocking as loud as possible, and calling the store number. The lady finally opened the door and seemed irritated that we were bothering her. She instantly scolded us for walking in the door with snowy boots! She asked me what I was looking for, I explained to her that I was looking for a reception dress and I wanted something 1930's and all she did was tell me I didn't know what I wanted because 1930s dresses don't look anything like what I described. I have spent countless hours researching vintage dresses and I knew exactly what they look like and what I want. she said she would come right back to pick out some dresses with us, proceeded to let in another bridal group and left us just sitting there for another 15 minutes. She came back and again asked me what I was looking for, told me the same thing about having no clue what I was looking for, but she had a lot of dresses in my size. She lead us to a small room jammed full of dresses. She explained to us that the dresses my size were in the rack behind the last rack (yeah all the way against the wall with no aisle to squeeze though). My mother, sister, and I edged sideways very slowly though these rack pushing aside dresses to get to the ones that were hidden ( if you are at all claustrophobic this is not the shop for you). We managed to find a few to try on, I finally found a 1940s dress and put it on to find that the lace and tulle was nearly all destroyed! The only reason I am giving this shop two stars instead of the one it earned from me is because my maid of honor found her dress while we were there. By chance, we searched the small rack of colorful dresses to see what she had (she never even offered to help my maid of honor!) we pulled out one plum satin and chiffon dress that was crushed into this rack and it fit perfect and had a wonderful 1930s feel to it and it was only $100! All in all I would not go back to this shop, nor would I recommend it to any of my friends,,,,, read more

I'm recently engaged. I wanted to try to figure out styles and sizes that would fit and flatter my body. I called this shop and had Kelly answer the phone. I asked if appointments are necessary to try on dresses and she said they were but I needed to know my size to come in. So I asked if I could come in to try and figure out my size. She said yes but that their dresses were one of a kind and couldn't be placed on hold without purchase, so window shopping wouldn't work out. I said it was fine and tried making an appointment 2 weeks out but she said appointments could only be made the week of. Then she said, "Hopefully you'll go somewhere else to figure out the size and call us when you're ready to SHOP." Her tone overall was very condescending once she assumed I wouldn't purchase a dress on the spot. Maybe I could've found my perfect dress, maybe not. I absolutely adore this little shop. I called after shopping at many "vintage-style" bridal shops around the city. The owner, Kelly was able to find an appointment for me quickly. When I came into I Do I was surprised at how many dresses were there! I bought my wedding dress here back in November of 2009. I got married in April 2010. This shop might not be for everyone, especially if you're a bride who wants more of the Say Yes to the Dress atmosphere, but I LOVED it. I didn't want to spend thousands of dollars on a dress and I didn't want to go somewhere like David's. For $600 I got an absolutely wonderful vintage Marshall Field's dress. I also tried on some very beautiful and reasonably priced modern dresses, but the vintage MF dress was absolutely perfect and I know that no other bride had my dress...as least not for 40 years! The owner was very helpful and nice, no pressure. She let all of us look through dresses ourselves as well as pull things she thought we'd like. And the best part for me was that I got to take the dress home that day, though she will store it for you for free if you need. read more

She even took a credit card over the phone from my mother long distance. She will hold the dress for you there in case there's a risk of it being discovered by unwanted eyes. I bought my dress here in February for my July wedding. I brought my Matron of Honor/Sister with me and that's why this was all perfect for my situation. See, I'm not great at picking out this kind of stuff on my own, and Kelly--while helpful and willing to suggest dresses--didn't know what kind of a dress I was looking for. However, my sister waded right into the ocean of dresses of every size and shape and design and picked out the PERFECT dress for me. If you don't have someone who has that kind of eye, this might not be the place for you--it's just too overwhelming with choices. When Kelly saw we had it all covered, she stepped back and let us handle it all on our own, which was what I preferred. I could never have afforded such a nice dress new, but this dress was in beautiful condition. Amazingly, it had been in the store for only 3 days. The owner had brought it in after not being able to sell it at a different consignment store after having it there for months. I was glad to take it off her hands! I didn't use the seamstress the store uses, so I can't comment on that. I will admit that it was a little weird to not have any real idea of the size or price of the dresses. She tells you which area of the store you should be looking in and then tells you the price if you ask. So after I found the perfect dress, I held my breath to see if I could afford it--and I could!!! read more

I loved the idea of recycled/reused dresses not only for the environment but also because it might mean saving some money. The minute I told the lady I would like to start looking at dresses for $500 or less she laughed at me and told me to go to David's Bridal. Considering how dirty and hot the store was (there was no ac) I would've left right away, but I drove 45 minutes to get there so I thought I'd at least try a few on. There was a dress I liked for about $1,000 that they pulled for me and I agreed to try it on. I knew I would spend more if I found something I absolutely loved, but didn't want to start the search with the high price tags. The lady was very rude about my budget and said that I shouldn't try it on if it's too expensive because she doesn't need more people trying on dresses they can't afford because they might ruin them. If I'm going to spend $1,000 or more on a dress, I'm going to at least go to a store where I'm welcomed and treated well. I went to BHLDN in downtown Chicago where the brand new dresses were reasonably priced (many cheaper than this resale shop) and everyone was incredible kind. They offered me water and a beautiful fitting room while the people at this resale shop weren't there when we showed up and didn't even shake our hands when we walked in. read more

I had a great experience and highly recommend "I Do." I got a brand new wedding gown that is absolutely gorgeous. It was a designer sample, which is why Kelly had it in her store. I also purchased my veil from "I Do" which matched my gown perfectly. Kelly will also refer you to a seamstress who works in a bridal boutique during the day, so has the experience with fitting wedding gowns but charges a fraction of the price. She was wonderful! I only needed one fitting; she did the bustle and everything the way I requested. I read some of the negative reviews about Kelly, and admit that it was a little confusing how you have to ring the bell on the green door next to the bridal shop (not the door to the store). read more

I bought a little dress from Anthropologie for my wedding last year and about 3 weeks before the big day changed my mind. I walked into David's Bridal and after immediately being told not to touch anything I walked out. So I found I Do Bridal here on yelp and figured I'd give it a shot. I made an appointment and when I got there the shop was dark and locked. FORTUNATELY I had read other reviews here and knew that the owner lived upstairs and didn't always answer her phone. So I rang her apartment buzzer and her daughter came down to let me into the shop. She pointed me in the direction of dresses in my size and I began looking through them and pulling ones I liked. After a while the owner came down to help me and pulled a few she thought I'd like. In the end I bought the first dress I'd tried on that day, had the alteration that night (with I Do's seamstress, who created a train because I wanted one added!) and had my dress ready 4 days before the wedding! It was a really lovely dress and the total came to around $375. I have to mention that I'm used to shopping in thrift stores, which probably made me more comfortable in this store. Don't come here if you're expecting a catered-to experience. I'm so glad I didn't wear that Anthropologie dress, and SO GLAD I didn't have to shop at David's Bridal! read more

Very skilled at understanding how a dress should fit, what could and could not be well altered. They make you feel right at home and put at ease my friend who is not in love with her body and was loathing wedding dress shopping. The shop looks like a resale shop inside - stuffed with merchandise, could use a little remodeling, etc. The assistant asked what I wanted to see & then let us browse while she pulled a few things. Kelly, the owner, was very helpful while I was trying the dresses on - great suggestions for accessories, pics, etc. She was nice and not at all pushy. I bought a dress from Kelly about a year ago. My experience with buying the dress was good enough. Kelly wasn't expecting us but let us in anyway, and we tried on a dress just for fun. The dress was a used Amsale dress that she was selling for $1000. I liked the dress very much, but as the style was old-fashioned, it needed to have quite a bit of alternations done on it. We decided to buy after she assured us that the seamstress Adela she works with would do a fantastic job. That's where my poor rating comes in. I had a total of 4 fittings with Adela, and after that I just had to take the dress even though it was not done. I asked her 3 times to make me a V-neck, in the front and the back (previously a boat neck). She cut me some kind of odd shape with three corners, and each time I asked her to fix it, she said she would and then didn't. She always managed to make things too tight or not tight enough, so the dress never actually fit me around the bust and shoulders. When taking up the skirt we ended up with a crooked hem line. The worst part is that she is just a sloppy seamstress. Here I had a gorgeous designer gown that has now been totally butchered by her attempts to alter it. As a result I now have to buy a new dress for my wedding and say goodbye to all that money I spend on the dress and the poor alterations. In conclusion: I recommend Kelly's store, especially if you find something that won't need a great deal of alterations. I do not recommend using her seamstress. She is just not detail oriented - and when you're working with a wedding gown, you just need to be. read more
