Putting it simply, the State collects our CRV money when we buy beverages. But consumers just put the recyclables in their recycling bin, or wait in line at some public recycling center. In other words, recouping their deposit is too time-consuming. So, all that CRV deposits that the consumer pays are just sitting in the State (CalRecycle's) coffers. CalRecycle now distributes money to Bottlebank. I.E., CalRecycle subsidizes Bottlebank via whatever municipality that Bottlebank operates in. The municipalities don't directly subsidize Bottlebank. Also, you don't have to separate the bottles from the Plastics from the cans. You do gotta remember to make sure the bag that you bring in is filled to the top if you want to get two free bags in return. Also, they are suspended the transaction fee for now. But, they might resume it after July. Another downfall to this is that if you don't have their bags, you have to buy them. I bought mine at Andronico supermarket in the sunset District.
