I Have a Bean is a local coffee roasting company... but not a coffee house or cafe. They roast coffee beans that you can buy right from the plant but the best bet is to order online. They will roast your order the day your order it and have it ready for you to pickup the same day. They even put your name right on the bag! (How sweet is that?!) They say they roast coffee that's rated in the top 1% of coffee beans... I don't know how they know that but I do know it tastes very very good. They have some of the best coffee I've ever tasted (they give away free cups of coffee on Friday mornings) and they're very friendly folks. Oh... they also have a great social cause... the workers they hire are people that have a felony conviction on their record. You'd never know it by talking to them or meeting them though. They are some of the nicest people I've met. If they didn't tell me they had that mission, I'd never have known that some of them have been in prison! I discovered this coffee at the farmers market in Wheaton, and haven't used anything else since for my morning coffee. It's a great company with a great mission. Aside from being a great organization that gives people a second chance, the coffee is amazing. I've since moved away from Wheaton, and I continue to order it monthly. When you order, they start roasting, it's that fresh. The coffee arrives a day or two later, you can't get that kind of service even from the expensive specialty companies. I've tried tons of high qualities coffee from different roasters, and this is for sure the best. The varieties change as they discover and buy new beans, and they are all fantastic. This is hands down some of the best coffee you will ever taste. Roasted fresh to order and shipped right away so you get it in within days! One of the only roasters that puts the actual roast date on the bag and likely THE only roaster to put the name of the person who roasted it. I used to bike over to the now-defunct Blue Max in Forest Park which I've long considered my #1 coffee place. The other day, I decided to try out IHAB. I ordered the Columbia Regional Select and I must say this is some of the best coffee I've had in all my years of coffee drinking. And their mission to give ex-convicts a chance to get back on the work force is a good reason to make this my go-to coffee place from now on. Excellent coffee. I recently enjoyed the Nicaraguan Jinotega Microlot - a great natural process coffee that worked well with either my pour over device or my Aeropress. Also I like the convenient 16 oz. bags. Since moving to Cleveland I miss not being able to stop by the I Have a Bean store to buy beans, say hello, and get a fine cup of fresh brew to go.
