I'm so glad I finally had the chance to visit Tala! The staff was super welcoming and the coffee was delicious. I was surprised at how crowded it was at 11:30 a.m. on a Wednesday. Some customers were there to socialize and others were camped out to work from their laptops. I snagged the second-to-last table when I arrived, and the last table was claimed a minute later. In addition to coffee, lattes, cappuccino and other similar drinks, Tala offers a small section of muffins and pastries as well as a small lunch menu. I'd love to go back and try a sandwich with my next latte. The location is odd, in an industrial area off the beaten path. But considering the crowd in there, the word is clearly out and people are flocking to it! read more

I got the miel which was really good. Husband got a matcha something that's a limited time special. The match one was a bit too sweet and sticky. I think after having tried all the different matcha coffee, I think matcha should just be matcha and not mixed with coffee. Lesson learned. The Miel (honey cinnamon and nutmeg) is always a solid choice. The coffee flavor is good for both drinks. Tala is always a solid option for coffee. Came across Tala Coffee Roasters on social media and stopped by when in the area. It's located in more of an industrial area. There's two parking areas but I recommend utilizing the spaces not directly against the building. The cafe entrance is the second door closer to the back. The inside is modern yet ties into the industrial feel of the building. There is a main ordering/coffee counter that highlights the roastery equipment behind it. There's also a large seating section to enjoy your food or drinks and work or catch up with friends/family. When ordering, I asked the staff member what she recommended. She said the Pumpkin Spice & Baklava Lattes were their most popular Seasonal Selections and the Bourbon Vanilla being their most popular standard offering. This visit, I tried the 12oz Hot Pumpkin Spice Latte. The girl was sweet to give me a small "first timer" discount. The latte was presented with milk art and tasted great! Their coffee beans had a good medium roast that paired well with the syrup flavor. I was thoroughly impressed by my drink and would certainly come back to try another flavor. I went to this Tala coffee shop location recently, as a last minute coffee craving like 40 minutes before closing and it was an awesome find. It's tucked away in a corner, away from the industrial-like area adjacent and bustle of Libertyville. Two parking zones, one directly out front and the larger area right behind that. (Can be a little difficult at night time because it's not very well lit) Once inside, I love the interior. It gives off warm and inviting vibes, and with the nice holiday decoration. I could see it being a chill spot to set up a laptop and do work/study or meet up with some friends over good coffee. For drinks, I had a large hot Lump of Coal latte to go, which was basically activated charcoal powder mixed with espresso, cardamom-infused maple, and steamed milk but I opted for steamed coconut milk. Despite the name, that drink was really good and tasty! Service was professional and very prompt. I'll definitely be back! read more

This coffee spot is hidden back near what appears to be industrial type buildings. You wouldn't think it was a coffee cafe. The parking lot is not trucking or larger vehicle friendly. It's very modern inside once you walk in. They do their own roasting and appears they have classes on occasion. We didn't sit inside. We actually sat outside to overlook a small private lake. I ordered the specialty drink called the bonebreaker: contains expresso, honey, lavender syrup over steamed milk. Very delish! Husband ordered a simple americano. He said his was too hot to drink at first but it was good once he was able to. I'd definitely go back again and sit inside. They do have a small food menu. The guy that checked us out was highly recommending their blt. We only came for coffee. Prices were about average of most coffee shops I've gone to within the areas. read more

Excellent, excellent, excellent!! So happy the fiance and I stopped by here. I have heard great things about this place but never had the chance to stop in. I guess today was our lucky day! As soon as we walked in, the outside had this very industrial feel to it. It's labeled as the headquarters, roastery and cafe of Tala. It's a bit off the beaten path but hey! I consider that part of its charm. As soon as we went inside, you are greeted by their little "coffee lab" and then a beautiful, wide open, clean space filled with chairs, a place to order and tables. Its decor is very simplistic, black, white and wood but I think it all melts together very nicely. I dig it. Their menu wasn't extensive but it sounded and looked delicious (there was an assorted amount of donuts, *insert Homer Simpson's "donut!") I ended up ordering a matcha latte with oatmeal milk and pumps of lavender, a traditional donut and my fiance ended up ordering a dirty hippie which is a drink with matcha powder, cold brew, hemp milk and lavender syrup. We let the cashier, Bryce, know our order and that it was first time there so we were open to suggestions or changes. He was so calm, pleasant and had excellent customer service. He told us about the history of the place and said we could never go wrong with the traditional donut. His kindness will not go unappreciated so with that said, *shoutout to Bryce!* We grabbed a seat at a nearby table and within a matter of minutes, our order was up. My matcha tea latte looked gorgeous and tasted absolutely delicious. The donut was moist, tender and not too sweet which we appreciated and loved. My fiance also loved his dirty hippie. He said it tasted creamy, wasn't overly sweet and you could still taste the coffee. When we were done, there was a little area where you can dispose of your little dishes to be washed. I love that for the drinks and donuts (when dining it), you get actual glass dishes and that the drinks came with metal straws. It definitely adds to a more personalized experience. Overall, an A+ experience all around. The price is up there but I'm a firm believer in what you get what you pay for especially when it comes to quality and this place is WORTH IT. I also love that they have their OG location in Highwood (shoutout!! grew up in the Northshore and Highwood is a foodie meca and I will rep them till I'm down and out!) then in Winnetka as well. This is a place where you know the workers are passionate about what they do. Everyone is kind and the food and drinks are superb. The customer service do is prime from Bryce to the young ladies helping to make the coffee and also give a little background on the establishment. We are ALL FOR supporting this business and we will for sure be coming back. The shop doesn't have much natural light, so I wouldn't likely choose to work from there; however, they do have wifi available for those interested. The beans are freshly roasted! Service is amazing! I had to wait a few days to use the beans I bought but they were good. The espresso blend is good but I wish it was more medium dark. Located next to Liberty Lake, the Tala Coffee Roasters headquarters has a large open space with tables, a Training Lab, and a few outside tables (that we made use of). The menu looks to be the same as the Highwood location that I've visited, and offers a selection of baked goods like donuts and muffins. I'm a little disappointed that there aren't more options. I ordered a mermaid (elusive caramel macchiato) and subbed in oatmilk. It tasted fine with a gigantic pillowy top of whipped cream and caramel ribbon. The old fashioned donut was a bit dry and fell apart. As I mentioned, we sat outside and our pups enjoyed cups of water and it was a lovely summer morning. Such a nice coffee shop! It's just outside of the downtown area, so there isn't as much foot traffic, which is great if you want to have a quiet place to study or do some work. Lots of parking, and the place is filled with beautiful plants. I did notice there were a few little flies bc of the plants, but nothing too bothersome. There are no windows in there unfortunately, but the space is bright and filled with plants so it doesn't feel too dungeon-ey in there. the parking lot is a little weird, but there is enough space. this place gets very packed on the weekends though and there's been a few times i've had to stand around and hope for somebody to leave to take their chair. in my opinion, this is the best coffee shop in the area. they also offer a military discount! read more

This place is in a weird location, surrounded by industrial buildings and tucked away from Downtown Libertyville. However, once you find it, the place sort of fits the vibe and it somehow works! Just a heads up that even on a weekday afternoon, it does get crowded with students and people working remotely! The staff are super friendly and made recommendations based on my preferences. I'm always careful about what I order since I'm a real coffee snob. I happened to visit on Halloween so I decided to try the pumpkin spice latte--extra hot with one shot of espresso and whole milk. The drink came out quickly, and it had a lovely latte art ("lart") design. And good news! It tasted even better than it looked! The complexity of the espresso, richness of the milk, and the flavor of real pumpkin made for a yummy beverage. It didn't taste artificial or bland, unlike the other PSLs I've had (not mentioning names like Starbucks). Open yesterday and it's already crazily crowded. Service is pretty smooth and fast relative to the #of baristas and customers. Parking space and seatings are challenging if you come during weekends peak hours. Took me a while to be able to get a seating for 2. Pastries also almost sold out at like 10am. Unlike the location at Highwood, my drinks gradually got sweeter because the sweetness seemed to be all at the bottom. I've been a long-time fan of Tala, dating back to the opening of their Highwood location. Watching them flourish and grow in the north shore has been such a delight, and I have a little bit of a proud mom vibe about the whole thing. We headed to their new location in Libertyville this morning. The space is beautifully designed and executed. The windows into the roasting area provides a perfect backdrop to the counter and baristas. There were several seating options. And, despite being in a windowless space, the room feels bright and airy thanks to lots of plants, white walls and creative lighting. Reviewing the coffee feels silly because we already know I'm a fan. My mermaid with oatmilk was wonderful; my husband's espresso and macchiato were perfect. The staff were warm and friendly (as always). Highwood will remain my closest location but Libertyville is a midway point for a good friend and me, so I envision some coffee dates in our future. The unique drinks and quality coffee that Tala offers are great! They always keep up with the seasons with revisiting and new seasonal drink ideas to keep things fresh, while they also have a solid menu of delicious drinks that they have all year round. They have exclusive drinks at each of their 3 cafes, so they always have plenty of good options to choose from. My wife and I often make the trip and pass by countless well known coffee chains to make it to this cafe, which is a 32 minute drive. The cafe is in a location that you wouldn't expect, and although the outdoor view leaves much to be desired, they did a good job of making the inside seating area nice and comfortable. They also have classes that you can take at this location about roasting coffee and different brewing methods, which is always a fun experience, and a fun idea for a date night if your significant other is interested in coffee or just learning new things. Recently, the customer service at this location hasn't been the greatest. We've wanted to have our drinks in the cafe because we often are on the go and we wanted to sit in and enjoy our drinks in a mug and pint glass, and one of the times we felt pressured to get our drinks to go because the cashier told us they closed in 45 minutes and acted like it would be inconvenient for us to stay. The most recent time, we were still given to go cups even though we chose to have them "for here" and we made it clear when we saw our cashier this time grabbing to go cups, and he made it clear that he understood that we wanted to sit and drink them there. I know this is not what the owners have in mind for customer service, but there's no perfect business out there. read more

Tala is a great addition to the local coffee scene! Since they've opened, I've been there 4 times, and the drinks have been consistently good. The space is beautiful; I may be biased because plants = life, but the lush decor is nothing short of dreamy! We've been going during off hours, but seating has not been an issue. I could see parking being difficult on busy days. A tiny issue was that the benches tend to slide when you lean back. The baristas were friendly and offered their suggestions when we were looking over the selections. I loved the summer special (Stockholm), and my husband also enjoyed the pourover coffee. Prices are reasonable. I'll definitely be coming here for my caffeine fix more often! read more
