I've been skating at this Chandler location since 1999 or 2000, playing in the adult hockey leagues for 15 of those years. This rink recently changed hands and is now run by the Ice Den people who run the Scottsdale Ice Den. In general, this has been a positive change. The ice surface at this rink has drastically improved since this rink changed management. It is better kept, with better surfaces and stays reasonable in warmer weather. In fact, they have had some growing pains (fixing cold showers etc) but seem to have gotten over the hump in these areas. I would have given them 5 stars if not for my last point below. One thing that has declined in the last year for anyone who plays hockey here- the officiating of league games has become inconsistent and poor. In this situation that everyone suffers. Refs routinely do not understand the rules in situations they should know them. It appears the refs have no relationship to the leagues and hence have no responsibility for the quality of officiating they provide. Inquiries and concerns have no where to be lodged since the refs have no accountability. This makes the experience poor for all involved. I appreciate the kind staff who manages the leagues and staffs the check-in areas. They are excellent.

I have only skated here twice but its a nice facility. In the middle of the desert its nice to have a rink that is new and has hard, fast ice. The hockey locker rooms have a bizarre layout (the bathroom is separate from the showers) and are a bit small. Other than that I have no complaints about the facility. Prices are a bit steep but it does cost a lot of money to run an ice rink in the Sonoran desert.

We liked the Ice Den overall, however their black coffee at the chilly bean cafe was rather disappointing. This doesn't mean that the cafe is bad however the coffee compared to their other items is lacking. Instead, we recommend settling for a rice crispy treat. avoid coffee at all costs. 2 extra stars for the crispy air in the rink. we keep it crispy here. anyway, avoid putting sugar in the coffee because it will be crunchy. not crispy. aftertaste is too sweet.

Amazing ice rinks clean and new they have 2 rinks. We love the option to watch the people skating from the coffee area or resting without freezing!!

Clean and spacious. I love sitting in the bar sharing a pitcher of beer and watching the adult hockey leagues play at night.

I'm giving Great Skate the second star because Great Skate at least refunded 2 of the 3 grandchildren's fees since 2 of the 3 refused to skate once getting past the Great Skate entrance and seeing what it was like inside. I was there just to bring the kids. I did not skate; I was just 1) a Great Skate spectator, 2) the source of payment to Great Skate and 3) to be responsibile for the kids while they were visiting Great Skate. Nonetheless, I had to sign a Great Skate waiver and I was not allowed to sign the Great Skate waiver without providing an email address. I was more than willing to sign the Great Skate waiver, provide a driver's license, provide my passport, give fingerprints, whatever to just to get inside of Great Skate. But, because the Great Skate waiver is online I could not progress thru the Great Skate waiver without me first forking over my email address. Otherwise, I would be denied the ability to be responsible for the kids. Rather than wait outside the doors of Great Skate while the kids went in by themselves, I gave up my email address . . . just to sit on a bench and watch. Yep, now I'm getting spammed with a relentless barrage of Great Skate email solicitations. They are not about a good CX, just generating more revenue, bolstering the Great Skate spam list and managing data via a rigid Great Skate platform.

Nice new facility. Well located for the east Valley. While they are still buildong out amenities,…read more it is good ice. The ice surface itself is crisp and hard. The bkards are notably repurposed which definitely goes along with giving them character. At times though the bounces off the boards were not semetrical with the angle they hit the boards at, which is surprising and frustrating if you are playing defense. Likewise, the edging needs to be worked on to remove the bubbles and flatten the surface next to the boards as the ice matures. The final.thing you will notice while skating is the low ceiling which doesn't so much cause any problems other than your perspective in thinking the rink to be smaller than it actually is. The locker rooms are nicely spacious, although lacking good permanent benchs. Showers are missing as yet, but no doubt in the works. Generally speaking, this is a facility just opened but not fully built out. That said, it looks good, skates well and seems like a good start to good little ice rink. I'll be back!

I've been here several times to watch my nephew's youth hockey team play games and skate with him…read moreduring stick time so I have to share my observations. The Good: The rink does have a nice snack spot, and a full bar. Super nice lady (Sandy) that I talked to while getting my food in the smaller snack bar. There's a Pure Hockey here that, despite being small, is very well-equipped with helpful and knowledgeable staff. I bought a pair of skates from them and they made sure I got a great fit. The Bad: The ice is in pretty rough shape, especially on the south side rink, it's clear that they don't properly flood or cut it in between sessions. Parents let their kids run around like feral animals, yelling and screaming, climbing on things, and no one seems to care and the employees certainly don't do anything about it. One of the worst parts about the rink is the bathrooms. I can't speak for the ladies, but the men's room is absolutely disgusting. There's always at least one urinal that's "out of service" and the last couple of times I've been (over the past two months) only one of the three sinks has worked. Half the time there's a 1/4 inch of some liquid on the floor, not sure if it's piss or water or what, but it's nasty as hell. Whoever runs this rink is a joke, I've looked into how much you charge for ice time and you clearly aren't investing a single dime into any improvements or even basic maintenance. Get your sh!t together and fix the bathrooms, clean the place once in a while, and invest a little money into making the ice better!

I didn't interact with any of the staff, but the facility was fairly clean and welcoming. The bathrooms were as to be expected for a hockey rink serving youth hockey (in my case, a HS Varsity team). Parking was ample, with lots to the left, right, and right in front. There are also soccer and baseball games going on around the facility on the weekends, so many parents, kiddos, and cars around. Top tip... avoid parking right in front, as all of the parents were standing in the sunshine one the games ended to defrost (the South Pole rink was FREEZING!!!). The North Pole rink wasn't as cold and also provided a seating are outside of the rink with big windows and picnic tables.
