I've been trying to get on an adult league team here for years to no avail. Tired of emailing the head of CAHL. I've played in many other leagues where the director or one of their people will get back to me quickly with options to join a team. Clearly, some teams rolling 7 or 8 skaters every week and holding down the bottom of the standings need serious help e.g. more players. I wonder if the team reps know that people are trying to join teams but can't because CAHL is not responding to people. read more

The CAHL league director has been lacking some serious effort in his role. This season, let alone the previous few have all been terrible. The divisions have no skill base, from the D2 league all the way up. Maybe if the director actually payed attention to the games, the skill levels wouldn't be so uneven. But what's worse is the fact that our schedule hasn't been coming out until the week of, most times! Lucky to be able to know 2 weeks in advance.. It makes it very troublesome to get a good attendance every game without proper scheduling in advance. Do better, participate, & actually take constructive criticism. It's unfortunate so many 'directors' can't seem to do the job with such a successful business & clientele. The refereeing is immensely inconsistent & truly favored. Such a shame this rink's atmosphere is being so unruly. read more

Five stars a must for an ice sheet in Arizona! Good times for me and my daughters who grew up in the Midwest (where it was normal to skate at a neighborhood rink all winter). The reservation system seems to work well in order to avoid long lines. Typical food fare for such a venue. We were bummin' a bit as no hot dogs. Haha. The staff was pleasant at the front desk, as well as the concession. Good family fun to be had. read more

Been coming here since it opened 21 years ago, man I'm old, and so I figured it's about time to leave a review. There are 3 rinks here! 2 you can see when you walk in and 1 behind the left rink. At times one of the 3 may be converted into an artificial turf venue for lacrosse, soccer etc. During open skate you'll skate on freshly Zamboni -ed ice one direction the after 1 hour ice is cleaned again and you skate the opposite direction. This is a great way to practice those hockey stops BOTH directions! Most places have you going the same way the entire time! The rink is in fantastic shape and the ice cools quickly without puddling like some AZ rinks that'll remain un named ;-) prices are reasonable and the family night although a little more $ is less crowded and a great time to practice those skills learned in class...which brings me to my last point. The instruction provided here is fantastic! They have a class for any skill level from learning to skate to figure skating with acrobatics! They even have a harness that hangs from the ceiling to help learn those crazy Olympic moves. Teachers are super friendly, knowledgeable and patient. I was looking for a rink to skate at while I was on vacation in Arizona and came across the Ice Den. It's a very nice facility, however, the rental skates here were terrible. I tried on several different pairs of their skates but all of them were very beat up and had rusted and dull blades. The laces were so bad to the point where I had to tie them after each loop around the rink. Due to the dull blades, it was very slippery and I could barely do anything more advanced than just gliding around the rink. My boyfriend dealt with the same thing with his skates and it was just a disappointing experience overall. If you have your own set of skates, I think this would be a great place to go! Unfortunately I was traveling so didn't have mine with me. I went on a Saturday evening and it wasn't too crowded so that was nice. read more

This is a very pristine rink; good infrastructure for being 20 years on as of 2018. The ice is hard and fast, the benches are large, lots of viewing sections, and a pro shop as well. The only drawback is the parking situation. read more

My daughters go there for their skating classes. Their rental skates are not in best shape, however the instructor giving the lessons was very experienced and good with the kids. Other flip side of this place is that they do not give make-up classes. read more

The admin office here is amazing and the learn to skate classes are so fun. My oldest takes private lessons with Dawn and she is warm, fun, and encouraging. Her credentials are wildly impressive. I don't usually write reviews but i had to write a review just to talk about how good the service was here. This one employee especially, Elaina, she went out of her way and showed me around the rink, where to rent a walker, and even talked to me about her seemingly excellent work life there upon my asking. She was very helpful and even helped me out with getting skates--she noticed mine were a little crooked and loose--the service was unparalleled! They offer great birthday party package. Both of my kids had a birthday party here at least once and they enjoyed their time. Easy to book party package online, and they will call you to confirm when it gets close. On the day of party, they have a staff waiting by the entrance with a push cart. Each guest can check in with her/him and drop off a present with them, so you don't have to walk around with a birthday present. A party package include rental skate and short lesson by a staff. Kids enjoy their lesson and they are on their own after that. For a beginner, $3 skate trainer is helpful. A birthday kid gets to ride a Zamboni, and they are a center of attention. Both of my kids really enjoyed riding. A party is set up very nicely as well. Two staff assigned to our party coordinated a whole event including pizza serving and present opening. Nice to be able to sit down at my own child's birthday party. Great way to have a birthday party. Open a year around, hot or cold. It's always the same temperature inside. I recommend mentioning on the invitation card to bring gloves, socks, and warm jackets. They do sell at a gift shop if they forget to bring their own. read more

Very fun! Hadn't been Ice Skating in years. My husband and I decided to try it out since we were not sure what the weather was planning so didn't want to risk hiking or biking.....had a bit of a panic when I thought I had forgotten how to skate but it turns out my skates were one size too big ... makes ALL the difference. The place is kept very clean and the ice is looked after well. Lots and lots of families here .... great place for the kids....nice to see so many smiling faces. My husband wiped out trying to perform some bizarre move....so I was entertained....he is fine by the way. Afterwards we had a burger and a beer at the 18 Degrees bar located in the ice den overlooking the rink. Overall a fun time : ) read more

I've had mixed feelings growing up in the Ice Den (back then the Alltel Ice Den). Sure, the ice is great and I've had fun as a social skater on the weekends, but the service here has been very troublesome. With the nature of the job, mostly teenagers work to supervise the rink, some more invested than others. Not that this is a bad thing, but I bring up this fact because many times I have witnessed bullying among kids here. Not the friendly kind you see within the same group, but the kind where one kid gets harrassed by a group constantly throughout the night. It's a bit short of tackling, but harsh words can do it for some kids. In these scenarios, sometimes the teenage staff are incapable of stopping it. I used to feel safe growing up here, but now I'm not so sure. Maybe the staff has changed for the better, but the rotating nature of teenage staff makes me unwilling to take my kids to such a venue if they want to learn how to ice skate. Maybe better for private lessons, but not the public weekend hours. If I could change the reveiw, it'd be 2.5 stars. But because of the overall experience, without the bullying it'd definitely be 3. Teenagers should stop being ****s to others these days. read more

Have done some public skate sessions and have our 9-year old in lessons for a while. With rare exception, staff is always friendly and helpful. Today we had a great experience. After advancing enough levels for us to be sure our daughter would stick to skating, time to get her her own skates. We went to the pro shop and Christina helped us find what we needed. She was patient, super courteous/friendly, and educated us every step of the way. She really made it a great experience for my 9-year old. read more

We have had birthday parties here and they do a great job and even had the birthday child ride the zamboni. Great skating rink and practice facility to the coyotes. Also located in the facility is 18 degrees and over easy restaurants. All around nice place to hang out and skate. read more

I LOVE their ice. It's perfect for figure skaters. And I appreciate that they resurface halfway through a public skate session. Not all rinks do that. The facilities are clean, spacious and intelligently laid out. Attendees and employees are nice, and it's nice to have a full-on restaurant on site. But personally I go to another rink because the Ice Den's public skates are limited in offerings and over-populated. For adult figure skaters, they do have adult skates on occasion; however those skates are in the middle of the day, when most adults are working. (Not sure why they'd not make that connection in schedule planning.) It's crazy to me they don't have more public skate offerings considering they have 3 rinks. The rink I go to has 1 rink and yet manages to offer almost daily public skates *in the evening*, despite it predominantly being a hockey rink. That's why the other rink gets my $50/week. But I'd honestly prefer the Ice Den for convenience of location and ice quality. So, sadly, I pretty much gave up on ever attending their public skates any more, except for the days I have a lesson. And speaking of lessons, I've been VERY satisfied with my Ice Den coach, Larry Schrier. He's been invaluable in my skills and extremely encouraging. Larry's style has offered me the perfect blend of challenge to comfort-level. If you're interested in lessons, I recommend Larry. ...particularly if you're an adult skater. read more

Came out last night with our three neighbor girls (11,14 and 16) and a coworker and her three girls (5 months, 2 and 5). It was our first time visiting Ice Den. All children had never skated. 3 of the 6 ventured on the ice for the first time. They all loved it even the non skaters had fun at the public skating with a DJ. They loved the music, lights, kindness and encouragement from fellow skaters, watching the accomplished skaters. I am 59 and had not skated in over 25 years. After a couple laps holding on to the wall I was skating again. All the children and adults had a great time. You can't beat $5 including skate rental and two hours skating. We will be back. The whole environment and skaters are very nice, friendly and encouraging. What a great evening and positive experience. read more

From a hockey perspective. Ample parking, but you may have to hunt for a space. Two sheets of ice. Newer facility. A lot of locker rooms. Locker rooms have an adjoining bathroom shared with the locker room next door. The locker rooms aren't the largest, so a bit cramped for a team of 15, and they're 12 year olds. Locker room walk out a tunnel to the rinks, entering by the penalty boxes and shaking across to the bench. There are about three or four quick fill water fountains around to top off game bottles. More than enough grandstand seating as well as standing area by only one goalie corner. The viewing area is a bit colder than others but not as cold as some. A jacket is needed but not a beanie. The pro shop is good in size, equipment offerings, and skate sharpening. As expected, a chunk of space is taken up with Coyotes merchandise since a practice facility for them. Snake bar has decent and the normal offerings, but with a tournament taking place I was surprised that the normally offered bananas to prevent cramping with the potassium weren't offered...but you can get a latte. Restaurant attached to the lobby area, but unlike the practice rinks for the Golden Knights and Kings you cannot view a game from it. One set of restrooms in the lobby area but they are large. Something I haven't see before at a rink we're phone charging stations. Being a newer facility, it is well maintained and fairly clean...save the typical locker room stench. That's tough to abate at all rinks, only a couple doing it by having a cleaning and mopping crew go in right as a team exits, which I've on,y seen at two locations. read more

Even though our kids were very good at skating, the staff here have been great in assisting our 6 year old (I have a broken ankle and can't skate)? Two skate rings and both are amazing. Bar/restaurant, gift store and tv's to watch the game while the kids wear themselves out. read more

First time playing hockey since moving to Arizona. I went for a 7:30pm drop-in/open hockey. First impression was the rink is very nice and well kept. The staff at the front desk were super friendly and welcoming. The locker rooms were in decent shape and the ice felt pretty good. The skill level during the skate was pretty high and not what I was expecting for a pickup game but I liked how competitive it was. We had a great group of guys out there and no dough bags. There were also 3 goalies which is nice; nothing worse at an open hockey than 1 or 0 goalies. There were a few too many guys guys on each team. It seemed like everyone had a 10-15 minute wait in between shifts which is way too long. Other than that I had a great time and really enjoyed the rink. I will certainly be looking for more open hockey or even a league to join at the Ice Den Scottsdale. read more

The Ice Den is great and well thought out. They have a café, a bar and 3 hockey rinks. It looks clean and seems very well run. So far everything is nice, but let me share my experience more in detail. Once out on the ice I felt like Bambi, since it had been a dozen years or so since I ice skated last. My biggest obstacle was these pegs in the front of the skate, that doesn't exist on hockey skates and hockey skates is all I have ever skated on in my past - but since these were rented and they all were the same, there was nothing to it but embrace this new and most unfamiliar experience. There is a few personnel skating to keep order and help out amongst the hoard of children and inexperienced skaters alike in this desert ice rink. Especially one man in his forties, seem to have an avid napoleon complex and acts with a self-infused authority and speaks down to children and adults alike. The following conversation takes place when he skates up to me after I have fallen on the ice. Skate Nazi: -"You need to tie your skates tighter. That's why you fell." Me: -"No, I was caught by surprise when these pegs caught the ice. I am not used to skate on these girl skates, see wher.." Skate Nazi: -"FIGURE skates" *Obviously insulted* Me: -"Yeaah!' *Obviously amused, by the fact that I stepped on this clowns emotional toes* It wasn't what he said, it was the tone of the importance out of which he feels in charge and in control. I so wanted to be kicked out of this establishment, but I wasn't. All personnel here is very nice, and I like the bar. I admit that after 20 minutes my feet was in pain, and I no longer enjoyed the act of skating. The reason it doesn't get a 5 star, is NOT the Skate Nazi but the fact that there is way too many people (and by people I do mean kids) on the rink and the same time. It is chaos, but then again maybe that's just a sign that I should sit on my front porch in my rocking chair and not be ice skating. read more

I decided to go to the "holiday skate" public session at noon. I'm a figure skater and wanted to have some fun on the ice, no tricks, just something to loosen my muscles and have a good time. I expected plenty of kids and families, but nothing I can't navigate around. I arrived early to catch the good ice, however it was already complete snow. Did a couple rounds, but became irritated and a little frightened at the absolute madness. No staff was on the ice to keep at least some order to things. I figured during your busiest hour there's literally not one staff member to keep unsupervised children going in the right direction? Many loose items were on the rink,such as girls holding their purses while attempting to skate. Entire large families were holding hands on the rink, completely blocking the way...only to stop and take photos right in the middle of the ice. Groups of people were standing around oblivious to their surroundings, chatting and blocking the path. Skating here as a more advanced but considerate, SAFETY FIRST skater was impossible. Kids were falling all around me, and luckily I know how to navigate and stop before running them over (note that there was probably only 5 other skaters on the ice who knew how to skate so this is scary). Rentals were extremely dilapidated, and when I brought back a defective skate I was told in a condescending manner that I wasn't "lacing them right." Kind of scary for the next person to come along. I find their holiday/public skate to be *extremely dangerous*. Do not take your kids here, especially if they are weaker skaters or just learning. Save the medical bills and take them to AZ Ice in Peoria or Arcadia Ice, both much safer and fun environments for the little ones (and adults!) read more

We are here from across the country for hockey games. Caution: The medics are unresponsive and slow to help injuries on the ice. Unsure of appropriate credentials of all staffing here. A teammate suffered concussion, and was out on the ice with no help/assistance from a medic for 5 minutes. The referees are either biased to home teams or simply not professional. Chumming it up on ice with the home team players and never calling needed penalties for the hone team- losing all control of the game. Such a disappointment to watch unfold. read more

This place was pretty coo, nice establishment. Has a snack area with food and a bar n restaurant as well for the peeps that dont feel like skaten that over looks the ice ring. It gets pretty full also. We came here for the homies daughters birthday, so we all ended up skating. Its was fun, feet were killn me afterwards though hahah. I had a fun time at this place. Not only did I get to watch the Phoenix Coyotes during a morning skate, but then I got to play hockey immediately after. I was so pumped up! What I liked about here is that you can get very close to the Coyotes players. The fan area is just separated by a queue strip, and it is right next to the entrance/exit to the practice rink. The ice surface that I played on was pretty nice, too. I was surprised at how good of a turnout there was for a noon pickup game. Everybody was nice and the price of $13 for over 90 minutes of ice time was worthwhile. There is also a snack bar up front, and it looked pretty nice. The only bad thing about this place is that the main restroom did not seem to be maintained well. It was clean, but I noticed that there was no toilet paper nor seat covers anywhere, nor were there paper towels by the sinks. That seems just gross, if you ask me! Overall, this rink is not perfect, but it is not too shabby. The Coyotes need fan support, and so they'll gladly let you in to watch their practices. I am glad I skated here, and would gladly play on their ice again! read more

Such a beautiful place and the ice is really well maintained. So it was surprising to find out that this place is staffed with sub human trash as customer service. This seems to be a universal complaint, that the staff has abysmal customer relation skills, so the fact that this goes ingnored by management tells me the sewer runs all the way to the top. I honestly have never met children and young adults this unbelievably, obnoxious and rude in my entire life. The parents and adults were vomit worthy as well. Scottsdale thinks its Beverley Hills or some sh!t. If the ice den thinks its to big to fail its only a matter of time till an employee's piss off a psychopath making you wish you made your customers satisfaction a priority. read more

Owned by the Phoenix Coyotes the Alltel Ice Den is a ice skating/hockey rink in North Scottsdale. The Ice Den has two rinks which are in use by the Coyotes and various leagues through out the year, but they have public skating times as well. On Friday nights they have a skate night which has a DJ woohoo! I believe they have one aimed at teenagers and one aimed at kids. It would probably be embarrassing to go now, but my friends and I loved it in high school. Writing this makes me want to find out what other times they are open to the public! Although I'm not great I'm a pretty decent ice skater, and wouldn't that be a fun way to escape the heat and get a great workout! read more

Blake was a mean person. He claimed we were assaulting a little kid we were talking to and told his colleagues not to speak with us. This offended us so we went to file a complaint about our experience. The "manager" Brook told us to " be legit" and her little boyfriend called our friend a "problem child". This was offensive and humiliating. Multiple sources told us that Blake is a moody, rude person and one source (a colleague) told us that he flirts with her on the job. I don't like to complain about people I don't know but I haven't heard one good thing about him and there are more than one bad reviews about Blake. I love the Ice Den. Their ice is the best kept in the area. The staff is always friendly and great. They know how to run programs for both children and adults. They have a great snack bar with outstanding coffee. Also the restaurant is pretty good inside. The staff in the hockey store is helpful and you can ask for clearance merchandise that they don't have on the shelf but keep in the back if you are on a budget or need to replace something quickly. 3 of 4 members in my household are actively in the programs at the Ice Den, and we all prefer this rink. read more

This was a GREAT experience!! The kids had a blast and there was even BLOOD and loose teeth!! I got a great Groupon deal and took the kids and thier friends. The open skate sounded like it was a short amout of time but it was the perfect amount. The only complaint I have is the crowded area in the front was a little frustrating when trying to get to the bathroom! It's hard to run through people on ice skates when you gotta pee and there are little kids left unsupervised running willy nilly. LOL The little food place was nice and the wait staff was GREAT. And the prices were affordable. We will surely go out there again and I suggest it to others. read more

These workers need to leave these kids alone and stop trying to bully them into removing their review. My son learned to skate here 11 years ago...fast forward and he's playing high school hockey. Loving every minute of it. Looking forward to more fun high school games at the Ice Den.
