We go here once every week or two. The food is kind of inconsistent, but the wait staff is always on point... Lat time I was there I ordered soup and a chicken salad sandwich. Both were really good. The soup was homemade cream of mushroom. It had great flavor, it was hot and the serving was plentiful. The chicken salad was also really nice. The chicken was cubed, the veggies were nicely diced, it was well seasoned and not too "wet." On the other hand... I think it was the week before, I had the fried chicken sandwich. God, I've never had a piece of fried chicken so dried out and tasteless. All the mayo in the work couldn't help that thing. It was just awful. My suggestion is to stick to the specials if you go here. The ambiance is really cool (even though the carpet needed a good cleaning back in the Carter administration). It's a place that you would never find if you didn't know it existed. The soups are always good and the salads always look pretty nice too. Wait staff is on it and the food does come out quickly. I order my lunch from here because it is convenient and close to my job. I only get a half hour for lunch so imagine my surprise on yesterday 2/22/23 when I got my lunch. I ordered a Chef's Salad with no onions, no tomatoes, with french dressing and add croutons. Simple enough right? When I received my salad there were Portobello Mushrooms throughout the entire salad. Ugh!! I was completely disappointed and did not have time to get a replacement since I only have 30 minutes to begin with! This was my second time ordering from here and I didn't want to leave a bad review but I would prefer to get what I pay for and nothing extra that I didn't!! read more

I should update my review, as my previous comments really weren't representative of their quality and service. I work downtown, so I only ever eat there for lunch, not dinner. I hear that dinner is quite fancy and impressive. Lunch is less so, which is confusing based on the trendy decor. But ICE is consistent. The quality of their food and service remains about average for lunch. The menu hasn't changed much in years, so your favorite entrees aren't going anywhere. They usually have some sort of lunch special, as well. ICE can be counted on for a timely lunch break with quality food, and that deserves an extra star from my original review. read more

Food is good but no Covid precautions. There was a lady that was acting as a cashier and waiting tables that had her mask around her chin one time and another time no masks at all. I'll avoid going back there until Covid is under control. The food is good. Service is good if dining in (if the server would wear her mask). I've worked down town for close to 7 years and feel like I've got a pretty good idea of what the better restaurants are, however I can say this is not one of them. Before getting into the negatives, I do want to highlight the positives of Ice. They have a diverse menu, which includes soups, salads, sandwiches, and fork and knife meals. If you are looking for a drink, they also have a full bar, which has several flat screen TVs. The atmosphere is also extremely modern and the space feels very open, even with being in a basement. One of the biggest positives of ice, is their French Onion soup. If I make the effort to go here anymore, it is just to get a cup of this magical soup. The flavor of the soup is amazing and they even cover it in cheese and melt it down with a torch or something. However, even their soup has started to go down hill a bit. First, they don't fill the cup up as much as they use to. I think every time I go, I get less and less. Also, I was offered to get a bowl, which ended up being what I always thought was a cup and the cup size was basically the same amount, just in a different shaped container. On to a few more negatives. I feel as though Ice is constantly understaffed. They maybe have 3 or 4 servers working the floor. Their staff is very friendly, but between their speed and the kitchens, you know you are not getting back to work on time. One would think that with it being a lunch place catering to downtown they would try to get people in and out quickly. Today, after walking in the door and being seated, you could look around the restaurant and just see how visibly frustrated all the customers were, looking around to see who their server was so they could order. If this place could put their customers first, run at a quicker speed, and get some consistency in the kitchen, I would give it a higher review. read more

Last year I use to attend Jazz Night at this restaurant every Thursday. Those nights they charged a small $5 cover and it was comped if your bill was a certain amount. I genuinely missed being able to go down there once a week for dinner but my work schedule just doesn't accommodate those visits. Located below the ground level of the PNC Building, ICE is a beautiful place to have dinner. Clearly this place was put together by a professional designer, its dimly lit and a great place for a romantic dinner, enjoying jazz music and just plain relaxing. Whoever is in the kitchen is very talented. The food is always delicious, perfectly cooked and presented. They have a full bar with televisions playing sports, but I always look for a booth along the wall. They'll bring out your water and a basket of a variety of freshly baked and cut bread and butter wedges shortly after you sit down and try to decide what you want from your menu. I always am there to relax because Thursday nights were my one night a week off of work and I would want a cold beer with either the Ice Burger or more often the Fried Chicken Sandwich with a slice of Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo. I'm a potato guy and their fries made me very happy. If we're really hungry, I enjoy the crab cakes for dinner. The salmon is never overcooked and the steaks are juicy and tender. I have never came close to complaining about this place, but I am going with Five Stars because this is not only a place I am a fan of, but I want to keep going back and take my friends to show them how great servers, a friendly owner and a talented chef make for a great experience. Sadly, I will never be able recommend or eat at Ice again. I called several times last night trying to make a reservation. When I would call the phone would be answered and then I would be immediately hung up on or left to sit listening to background noise. Before I had even talked to someone I received a text from Ice saying my information was going to be given to the police. Apparently right before I started calling someone was very rude to one of their employees. I told the person via text that they had the wrong number and proceeded to call Ice and make my reservation. I then also told the woman on the phone about the texts and she apologized. I figured that would be the end the problem. I then recieved more texts accusing me of making someone cry and getting threatened with a police report attached to my phone number. I called Ice back, explained they had the wrong number and cancelled my reservation. I continued to recieve texts from the owners son/kitchen manager even though I asked them to stop contacting me. I then called Ice again asking them to explain to whoever was texting me to please stop. The person apologized and said they would ask the owner to call me today. No one has called or texted me. I waited to post this a full 24 hours after my last conversation with an employee at Ice. I have not heard from anyone at the restaurant in regards to this incident. Again, all I wanted to do was make a reservation and it turned into a 4 hour long scenerio where I was forced to defend myself , and got threatened with a police report being filed and deal with extremely unprofessional and rude people. A couple of the people Ice were friendly, but overall it was a terrible experience. I've always loved Ice, the food and the atmosphere, but this has soured me on it for the foreseeable future. read more

I'll be honest.. the filet is the only thing that gives this place a second star. To begin with, the service was terrible. The server was busy and distracted and also working the bar. And while he would stop by to ask for our order, we had to stop him from rushing away so we could ask questions..... he would then hurry back to play on his iPhone...... When it came to drinks..I ordered an old fashioned and can honestly say it was the worst old fashioned I have ever tried. I could not taste the bourbon, the orange or the the sugar. It tasted like water. The mixed drink was ok, the wine was safe, but the scotch on the rocks tasted like water. Two in our party ordered French onion soup which was good, but because of the soup the server completely forgot our salad... and never came back until he had our meals... so we couldn't even ask about our salads. The scallops were decent, the Walleye was just ok, and the filet was surprisingly good considering everything else up to that point. Before I forget, the ice bites were ok, but nothing special. Small bits of over cooked steak in an aus jus... The ambiance as well, was nothing special... felt like a throwback from the 1990's Honestly, i won't be back. I'm torn between giving them three or four stars so I'll go with three. They're in a below ground space, our cell phones not working, with a dark, uninspired decor. And the chairs are very uncomfortable. Parking is a problem if anything is going on downtown. We ended up in a lot next door to the place which was nice because it was very cold and windy, but had to pay seven dollars for this. But the food was pretty good. We had a flatbread pizza as an appetizer. It was just ok. The appetizers were half off, I think because there was a hockey game that night. The salad was good. I had fish and chips, substituting a baked potato for the chips. The menu described the fish as lightly breaded, and it actually was. The fish was very good, the baked potato just ok. So overall it's good enough, not something to go out of your way for though. read more

Had a reservation for a party of 18. The staff was woefully unprepared even though the reservation was made a week in advance. Ran out of two menu options. I had the scallops over a mushroom risotto. The scallops were overlooked and chewy. The risotto was mushy but with a good flavor. I was disappointed in the food but the service was the worst part. Though at the end the servers did really try to make up for it with a real recovery. Sadly the food offered no such coup de gras. read more

Four of us enjoyed early (5:30) dinner at Ice before a 7 pm concert at the Valentine. We all remarked about how pleasantly surprised we were at the quality of the food. Our basket of a variety of delicious breads was promptly refreshed without our our asking. Salads served with entrees were offered with a good choice of dressings, several made in-house. Two in our party had the walleye, one a Wanda salad with French onion soup, and I had the 8 oz filet mignon. All very good. My filet was perfectly medium rare and delicious. Several sides were available including potatoes, rice pilaf and asparagus. There is a nice selection of wines by the glass and bottle and a large martini/cocktail selection. The menu also includes a selection of more informal fare including 3 soups, sandwiches, appetizers, and flatbread pizza. Service was pleasant, prompt, and attentive to our 7 pm commitment. We all felt that the prices were very reasonable. The central location of the restaurant allows for easy, free on-street parking in the evening and a quick walk to downtown venues. This would certainly be a choice again, especially before or after a downtown concert/event. read more

Not sure how often we'll visit as we're not a fan of trying to park downtown (and there are plenty of places to eat where I can park for free). Working downtown this week, a friend and I walked to ICE for lunch. They were moderately busy, given the lunch rush, but we were seated at a table almost immediately. Both my friend and I picked the Monday lunch special: a grilled pizza sandwich with a bowl of tomato bisque. With a drink, my bill came to $9.28, which is very reasonable for downtown. The décor in the restaurant is tasteful, if not pretty standard for a more upscale, cloth-napkin establishment. Our food was brought to the table surprisingly quickly, and we were shocked by the massive portion sizes! While we were expecting the scaled-down lunch portions common at most restaurants, the sandwich was the full-sized, two-handed variety and the bisque not just a bowl of soup, it was a BIG bowl of soup! Best of all, the sandwich tasted great and the tomato bisque was fantastic! Additionally our server, Alison, did an outstanding job topping-off our drinks. Overall I would rate ICE as being Very Good, and would definitely come back. read more

This is a hidden treasure in downtown Toledo. People complain about the lack of activity in the area, but when there's an event at the Huntington, it's almost impossible to find a parking place on the street for Ice. Nonetheless, this is well worth a trip downtown, regardless of where you live in Toledo. First, the decor. It's a nice blend between elegant and comfortable. The "ice cube" lights are really interesting, although at times, it's a little bright. The dining area is a mix of generous booths (wide and nice) along the wall and tables in the center. The bar is really wonderful, although I'm not a fan of TVs in an upmarket restaurant. What is especially interesting is the house salad. It's a mix of fresh greens, red onions, and fresh sliced strawberries with a homemade poppyseed dressing - that is not creamy. This alone is a standout. Every entree we've tried has been well worth the trip. A favorite is the pork chops - two, bone-in chops that are bourbon glazed. They are to die for. The perch is another winner. Not everyone can do perch to perfection, but these are lightly breaded and perfectly prepared. On our last visit, they had a large party, and everyone ordered the pork chops. They were "sold-out." While this was a little disappointing, I opted (with some trepidation) to try the N Y Strip steak. It was perfectly done to order (medium). I could not have been more pleased or surprised. Again - not everyone does steak well. The sides offered are many, but I do love their garlic mashed potatoes. The baked potato is also a nice choice. Meals come with a basket of wonderful sourdough bread. As to the service, it could not have been better. Our waiter and waitress (on all visits) were attentive without being pushy and over-the-top. The one disappointment falls into the cocktail category. Their prices are most reasonable, but the pour is a little on the skimpy side. One important fact: the prices are beyond reasonable for the quality and service. Regardless, the atmosphere, cocktails, and dinner all make this a clear choice for dinner. I give it five stars in the hope that they will survive to make downtown a destination. read more

I work downtown near Ice, so we go as a group of 3 to 5 people about twice a month. At this point, we only go on days when they have French Onion soup. To find these days yourself, you could check their website....but that would require them updating it once in a while. When I call to confirm the soup of the day and special, it almost never matches what their outdated site says. Back to the French Onion soup...this is amazing. Maybe not the best French Onion soup I have ever had, but close. I would enthusiastically recommend it to anyone going on the one day a week it is served. Other than the French Onion, most menu items are good and fairly priced. The lunch menu is diverse - there are a lot of wraps and sandwiches, but also some knife-and-fork lunch meals. The "Yesterday's Wrap" is always a safe choice. Now on to my problem... I have been in Ice over 10 times, and in not one of those trips did I receive even adequate customer service. The poor service is spread throughout all facets of the meal. The host or hostess is fine, the show starts once you get your seat. Once you are seated, expect to wait at least 3-4 minutes before anyone comes to ask what you'd like to drink. Our group is usually all getting water, which typically takes another 3-4 minutes to bring back. Then, if you are all ready to order, I urge you to get your order in ASAP. This has been a continuous issue - if you do not order when they first ask you, no one will come back to your table for a good 10 minutes. You might be thinking "well I would just gesture them over"....good thought, but it won't work. Their wait staff has gone through an extensive training on how to avoid making eye contact with anyone. The waitresses speed walk through the floor, each acting like they are late for a flight, boarding in the kitchen. A quick suggestion on any questions over the menu - keep them to yourself. The wait staff does not want to hear them, will not know the answer, and will most likely talk to you with the attitude of an angsty teen, embarrassed by the presence of their father at a school dance. A recent encounter saw two of us order the French Onion soup. One of them came out quickly, so that person was going to wait for the other person's soup to come. About 10 minutes later, the waitress showed up and exasperatedly dropped off the plates for the meal. When the soup was mentioned, she said "sorry, did you still want that?". This was puzzling for all involved, except the waitress of course, who acted as if this all somehow made sense. When it comes to paying your bill, expect more of the same. You will wait a few minutes for them to come get your card, then another few minutes while they process payment. Looking back, this review is really only useful for those going for lunch, and even then might be more of a personal venting session than helpful. If you take anything away from my good-humored rant, its that you need to be quick ordering at Ice if you need to get back to work within the standard one hour lunch break. read more

How disappointing our last visit was. 1 server and 1 bartender on a Friday night. Our server ran her tail off to try and provide good service. One of the people in our party did not get her meal until everyone else was done and we were ready to leave for our concert. I have ordered Take out from Ice on many occasions. Each time something is wrong with my order but I keep going back hoping it was an honest mistake. I showed up with a coupon. Buy one dinner/lunch entrée and receive the second one for free. The manger came over (could tell she was more concerned about the other person on her cell phone then us as customers). She took a look at the coupon and goes you can't use this it's dine in only. Now mind you NO WHERE on the coupon says DINE IN only. However it does say this: "Welcome to Ice Restaurant & Bar located in the entertainment district of downtown Toledo. Enjoy elegant dining in our relaxed atmosphere. Select your choice from our terrific menu as you enjoy your favorite cocktail or beverage." On top of all that. The prices listed on their website are not what they charged me once I got there. No one apologized for the inconvenience of the pricing or my coupon. I'm all about customer service and their needs. The Manager had no interest in anything to do with us. We have been coming here over the last couple years. We have noticed a dramatic decline over the last year or so. A few months ago, there was a large table that evidently was friends with the chef, that was really loud. Then a couple months ago, the waitress brought out the wrong drinks several times, and got mad at us because they were wrong. One of them had ginger ale, and tasted like soda water. I sent it back three times, before the bar tender finally admitted to our waitress that "we dont have ginger ale" and had been using straight carbonated water and coke. Mixed poorly at that. You should have tasted it. The mashed potatoes were ice cold. Not sure how that happens. The steak was cooked terribly. Ordered medium rare and it was clearly rare. The waitress apologized but after the mashed potatoes, felt helpless. Today, our waitress was good, but we waited forever. She seemed confused and overwhelmed. They really did not seem that busy. We had a groupon today, as we found it online, but they said we could not use it because of the Mud Hens Game. I guess you have to call the huntington center to see if they have a game before you can use your groupon. I understand fine print, but asking me to coordinate my diner schedule over a separate venue's events is a little goofy. If I would have known there was an event, I would not have came because everything was very slow even though they were not that busy. Food was ok, but looks nothing like the pictures on the groupon site or their website. The food is typically ok. It is uninspired and typical food you find at any mid level independent restaurant. Simple steak, chicken, fish, and pork... with fries or mashed potatoes on the side. Prices are on par with other restaurants. Expect to spend 15-29 dollars a person. The french onion soup is very good. Im not sure what has changed, but I miss the old ice. The service has declined dramatically and so has the food. The web site shows some pretty good looking stuff, very creative. So did the groupon picture. It must be a stock photo because the steaks I order never look like that. Actually, it is not even on the menu. They had some interesting stuff before, but none of that is on the menu anymore. Feel free to try them and come to your own conclusions, but we wont be back. Business birthday approved!!! The women at my office took me to Ice Restaurant and Bar for a birthday lunch and it was worth the trip! Jenny, our wait staff, was attentive and friendly and willing to accommodate and recommend menu selections for first timers. Her recommendations were delicious and perfectly cooked in a timely manner. My recommendation would be to try Ice for the atmosphere, food especially the ice bites, and experience. Terrible! I will never go back and I'm honestly one of those people that always gives places a second chance. First, it took many attempts to even get someone on the phone to make a reservation. When we did we were told we couldn't come at the time we wanted but could come 45 minutes later. We did and when we arrived there was literally nobody in the restaurant. Second, our waitress was so rude. I could have sworn I had 2 sips left in my martini and when I asked her if she took it her reply was "It was empty, very empty" and she said it in the snottiest tone. The food was awful for the price you pay. I'm pretty sure the fries came out of a bag from Kroger and the scallops were the size of quarters and I only got 4 of them in my meal. I was starving when we got home. I'm not sure how this place stays open. It's overpriced and honesty, fast food is better. If I could give Ice a negative 10 rating instead of a 1 I would. read more

Fantastic atmosphere, superior service, and good food. On Wed Oct 20 we had a 5:30pm reservation for 7 people at ICE Restaurant and Bar (formerly Eddy B's). We had hoped to dine at 6pm, however the restaurant was fully booked because The Eagles were playing at The Huntington Center, only one block away from ICE. I arrived early at 5pm and was a bit confused because when you come in the entrance, you have to walk down two flights of stairs before you get to the restaurant. However, I was immediately enchanted with the decor and new atmosphere. Since I was so early, I ordered a cocktail at the bar where the bartender was friendly, courteous, and suggested a fine martini. I unfortunately discovered that my iPhone did not have service at all in ICE, but since my AT&T coverage has always been spotty, this was no big surprise (my Verizon Android friends did have service in ICE). ICE was obviously filling up for the evening, yet to me things were running smoothly. The bartender was willing to transfer my cocktail to my table, which I very much appreciated, but I cashed out with her at the bar. When seated, our server was speedy and accommodating, especially since my entire party showed up gradually. We ordered margarita pizza and ICE Bites - beef tips topped with provalone. The pizza was delicious and fresh and the ICE bites were good, but a bit salty for me. I know I have a low salt tolerance, but others found them salty as well. I enjoyed a side salad with wonderful pan seared walleye and garlic (I really love garlic!) mashed potatoes. I especially enjoyed all three martinis I had at ICE, and I will definitely dine there again! read more

Over $150.00 for two people and the food was 45 minutes to get on a week night, and cooked completely wrong. Not to mention everything seemed like a headache. I have been to every type of restaurant in town, and never once had the low quality of service, or uncaring service! If I could give this place negative stars, I would! WE had the WORST experience at ICE restaurant yesterday. The problems started off from the beginning, we had a reservation for 6 people and they were going to seat us at the bar. The hostess and what we that was the manager but later found out it was the owner were rude and were talking in first of us like we didn't exist, we overheard the owner say "just tell them something about a problem with the table", but we were never acknowledge about how it was going to be remedied, then ignored for 20 minutes. Once we were finally seated, it took forever for the server to take our drink orders, and then she spilled a drink on our friend. Once we got the overpriced and mediocre food, our friend's food was inedible, undercooked, the server had to take all of the food because the cooks didn't believe they made an error. 20 minutes later the server returned with their food which now was overcooked. The owner, Donna, barely seemed like she could be bothered with addressing us about the problems. The owner was rude and almost argued with us about our dissatisfaction with our experience and just brushed us off. I have never had such a horrible experience at a restaurant. Needless to say we will NEVER go back and I would highly recommend everyone take their business elsewhere. read more
