Huge facility that my daughters and me met up with some friends to Ice skate this past weekend. Place was very crowded and was at capacity for covid. So had a tiny wait. Seems like they have two rinks. The price for me, 2 older daughters and a discounted 5 year old daughter to ice skate was just over $30. So solid value. We arrived shortly after 12:30 and unfortunately skating ended at 2pm on a Saturday. Not sure if that's is every Saturday or because they had hockey games or practice about to start. But it was very hard to find open skate times on the websites or in building. So that was unfortunate. My oldest daughter and her friend spent majority of the time deciding what snack to get at the concessions so they didn't really get to skate long. I didn't have much employee interaction didn't really see any. So not sure if they have safety people like roller skating rinks or not. If they do I didn't see a uniform or employee tag. Overall we had fun. Wish we had a little More time though. read more

On Monday, Dec 1st 2023 I went to go skating with some family and school friends. It was a blast! As a first time skater the skate guard Mr. Terry was a fantastic help in teaching me and my 7 year old brother how to skate. For my other siblings who love roller skating, thanks to his guidance picked up ice skating much faster then me and were soon zipping around the ice. The place was clean though seeming worn down in the parking lot and wall paint. However the skates themselves, and their ice skating rink were kept up perfectly. I was doubtful at first due to so many negative reviews but my family, friends and I had a great time. Does the place need refurbishing? Yes. However, everything was reasonably priced and their personal was inviting and helpful. Will definitely be coming back. read more

Decided to ice skate with some friends tonight and was nervous since it's been about twenty years. The facility is larger than expected and I was surprised with how crowded it was. They did a good job at keeping the lines moving and our wait to pay and get out skates, was not long. All together the cost was $13 for skates and admission. They give you the choice to pay a dollar - 4 quarters- for a locker. I did not like that I had to pay again after having to get back into my locker. If you have over a size 13 foot then you will be out of luck in getting skates. My friend wears a size 14 and had to squeeze into a size 13. Ultimately, he got refunded. The rink was very crowded but it was a Saturday evening. Surprisingly the flow of everyone skating - on all different levels - went well. The ice was choppy and this made it more difficult to skate. Especially for this fearful beginner! I would recommend that they offer nights or slots for kids, amateurs, and those that are advanced. They may offer this and I'm not aware of it. This was a fun experience and happy to report I tumbled to the cold ice, only one time. read more

Iceland is usually my top choice when it comes to ice skating rinks around Louisville. I just came here recently, having not been in almost 8 years, and had a pretty great time. The admission is a fair price and so are skate rentals. $10 per person for both. They are only open for 3 hours on weekend nights, but it served to be plenty of time for us to skate. To give off a fair warning, this place is a zoo of high school/middle schoolers. It's expected being a home to so many hockey teams and whatnot, but some of these kids were acting like literal nuts, with no supervision around. At one point there were kids throwing balls, chairs and benches out on the ice rink, lasting a while until someone's dad had to come out and scream at them. *awkwarddd* They also have a nice hangout area/snack bar/arcade to take a break from the ice. You'll find your typical concessions, but it was nice to have at a cheap price. Iceland does tend to get pretty busy too, however what I really love about this place is that there are two ice rinks; therefore, once the games are over with, you can split up the crowd between two rinks. It's a fun activity to do in the winter, and is something different that you can entertain yourself with. read more

While at a birthday party today, the kids were skating for only about 10 minutes before they had to leave the rink as a team was about to start a game. This was not clearly communicated beforehand to the mother who paid for the party and when she tried speaking with the manager about the situation, he immediately raised his voice and berated her in the middle of the lobby, in front of all of the kids. He was not apologetic in the least and was extremely unprofessional. I think in the end he offered her a few vouchers for kids to come back, but not enough for all kids in the party. Whether the timing situation had been communicated prior to the party or not, I was totally taken aback by the behavior of the manager and will not be visiting again. read more

I've come here a bunch, with about a year between my first and most recent visit. My family lives about ten minutes away and I come during the holidays to get some exercise and practice. I went to 5 public sessions this last December. Pros: two good sized rinks, easy parking, pricing for admissions and skate rental is fair (I have my own skates so I can't speak to the quality or experience of the rentals), lockers, bathroom is easy to find. Cons: skate guards don't monitor people. Someone brought a ping pong ball on the ice--I shouldn't have to explain why that is a problem. I saw a lady in street shoes walking her daughter (in skates) around the boards. No cones in the center of either rink. No directional skating is enforced at all, so it's a giant free-for-all. Middle and high school aged kids playing tag and don't get reprimanded or kicked off the ice for it. They have ice shows, but they don't put them on their website or calendar, so you have no clue when you drive up why the parking lot is packed. People skating with their phones out, and with headphones on. No music played consistently. read more

Attended a Birthday party here. As soon as the kids ate their cake and went onto the ice they were called back in because of a game less than 10 mins in. When the mother approached the manager Don about not upholding their part of the agreed terms for the party ( hour and a half in the room, 2 hours of skating), he was verbally abusive, shouting, slamming the office door, and storming off; while refusing to issue a refund. This behavior caused several of the young participants to erupt into tears and embarrassment for the birthday boy. As a result of Don's unprofessional and disturbing behavior, myself and the other attending families will never patronize Iceland again. I would strongly suggest Iceland terminate Don before he ruins another youth's special day. read more

Being in the east end of Louisville..I always assume this business will make updates but it never ceases to amaze me that it smells like the reptile exhibit at the zoo. The food is...eh. This was the second time my kids have been invited to birthday parties at Iceland Sports Complex. The place was super busy as expected for Saturday midday. Here are a few things I noticed and really appreciated about Iceland. The bathrooms were clean. As mom of small kids we spend more time than average in the restroom. Having a clean bathroom gets you one star alone in my book. Also there was plenty of staff available to assist and keep things organized. And Lastly, but certainly not least, the food is decent and very reasonable priced. I personally prefer rollerskating but this is a nice change of pace. read more

When it comes to winter sports, Louisville just doesn't get it. If it's not basketball, it doesn't seem to exist. I grew up in Louisville and actually frequented Iceland for several years as I figure skated competitively and practiced at the hockey-friendly Iceland. More recently, I lived in places where sports like curling and broomball were actually enjoyed by the masses, rather than being met with a quizzical look like it is around here. When I went to Iceland the other day, I was disappointed to see that the "bumps" on the ice from condensation on the ceiling are still present. I remember watching out for those as I performed spirals, edges, and axels as a young 'un and was sad to see that they have proliferated to cover most of the surface of the ice. My tailbone was also most unhappy when I fell right onto it thanks to one of those "bumps" when I was there recently. I'm sure management has been hearing about these for about 18 years, but it's really time to find a way to keep them from popping up. Seriously. I guess this place is fine when Alpine is not in season, and it won't all keep me from rekindling my love of the ice, but it could definitely be better. read more

I didn't expect much from an ice rink in Louisville. I was pleasantly surprised. It seems to be clean and well organized. Clean bathroom rooms and snack bar. Nice and cold inside. The music wasn't too loud or angry. Pleasant. The skaters were well behaved. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. A mix of ages, but most young teens. A great alternative to the moats then a little scary rollerskating places in the area. read more

This was a great experience in terms of a college hockey game. I was here to watch Louisville vs Ohio. Groupon has a bargain online where two tickets were for $7. My date and i came and I'm glad we did. Half the rink is dedicated to the hockey game. The other half is an ice skating rink where you can rent skates, take lessons, or just hang out with friends. The area can be pretty busy, but it's well separated. In the middle of it all is the snack bar. They have anything from hot dogs, onion rings, pizza, etc. Prices are inexpensive m. I spent $7 for a hot dog, pretzel with cheese, and a bottle of water. The game itself was great. You get close up action of both teams and the crowd really gets into it. The only issue I had was being able to hear the play calling or the announcer making any type of announcements. Then I reminded myself, this is a kids hockey rink. Overall, if you haven't been to a game I highly recommend, it was a good time. read more

I must update this rating since my last visit here 2 years ago. This place must be under new management because it is now clean and awesome! The lockers all work and are new. The ice was cleaned during public session. The skates all appear to be new. What a breath of fresh air for a figure skater. I had a wonderful skate session even during public skating. About 5 kids brought chairs on to the ice. I asked management if that was allowed and management immediately made children remove the chairs. So, if you see chairs on the ice (which is very dangerous, btw) be sure to notify management. Unfortunately, some parents do not have sense enough to enroll their children in lessons and would rather cause major injuries on the ice by allowing their children to push chairs. Great, affordable, clean and safe place to skate with new skates! You can also bring your own. read more

I love this rink. I am a very beginner skater and I go to the rink about once or twice a month. I normally go to Lexington Ice Center but they're closed for the summer so I tried a Iceland Sports Complex. And I was very pleased with ice, it's really big, got a nice big snack bar, and it's prettyOK. Sometimes big boys get on the ice and start roughhousing and they tear up the ice and they scare the other skaters. So there's no supervision or someone to patrol the safety of the skaters. But other than that it's pretty OK. read more

We love Iceland. We skate with friends, come watch UofL play, and we just had my daughter's 13th birthday party here. Today was the busiest, morning free skate I've ever seen. But, we still had all of our party food at the time we asked for it, and all of us had a blast. They let us bring decorations in (no glitter or balloons) but provided all the basics utensils, napkins and small plates in white. They also provided plastic tablecloths that matched the color of the room we were in (green). Everyone was really sweet and kinda let us do our own thing for the party. Checking in to make sure we had what we needed. The restrooms are clean, the food is exactly what you'd expect at an ice skating rink, which I love, and it's all reasonably priced. We're already planning an adult group skate where we don't have to help tiny, and not so tiny kiddos around the rink. I might be a little biased, but there are not a lot of places in Louisville for ice related sports, so I love that we can watch good, live hockey here. In addition to free skate fun. I also skated here as a teenager and while it's older now, (like me ) it's a much better experience now than it was then. read more

This place is a dump. I genuinely have no idea how it stays in business other than the fact that this is Kentucky and there are no other rinks in town. The last time I was here, I watched some older guy (who was obviously management) completely and unnecessarily berate a younger worker in front of a group of customers. It got to the point that I was embarrassed and felt bad for the kid so I said something to the guy. He looked at me and - point blank - said, "this is my place and I will talk to my staff however the hell I want to. If you don't like it then get the hell out of here." Talk about scumbag behavior. Obviously, I haven't been back since and I look forward to driving past here and seeing that it's went out of business. In response to the comment from the complex, this incident was, in fact, recent. I'm not going to provide any other information on top of that because you all still have my contact information and I don't wish to discuss this any further. I have no doubt this person is still working there because it's been that recent, so I have a very hard time believing they have since been fired, but nice try. read more

HOLY FUCK THIS PLACE SUCKS!!! I went here to have a joyous time and the rink was a fkn pig house. From the pubed up faces of the teen thugs there to the people dressed up in costumes it is gross, people fighting in the bathroom and people cursing at us. I've never had any problems with the staff but everyone else here sucks I've seen people in the bathrooms SMOKING WEED!!!! I would not recommend this place. read more

This place is a dump! The bathrooms haven't been cleaned in months. The floors are filthy, the ice has divots, and it smelled awful.

If I could leave zero I would. Do not go to open skating on the weekends. No staff to monitor too many people. Fights break out nightly. Middle school kids dropped off by their parents and unchaperoned. Middle Schoolers not skating running around swearing with no regard to children. Manager shut the whole night down early due to their behavior and everyone was forced to leave. Running through the complex yelling for everyone to get out. Even to those of us not involved. Either hire more staff to monitor, make them have parents unless 16 or over, have security, limit the number of people, or don't take my money and then kick me out. I'm an adult that was skating with my family. It was a horrible trashy experience. Embarrassment for Louisville to take guests to and try to entertain. read more

The owners are a joke. They just sit in the office until someone makes them get up and work. The place smells like feet and the bathrooms and food are a joke. The ice has bumps and gashes all over the place. Their hours are very short. I honestly don't know how they keep that place running. I was part of a figure skating club that practiced there regularly, and they treated us like dirt. They would turn out all the lights so it was literally pitch black. This was to tell us our time was up. He cursed "get the F off the ice!" Rude, self righteous, and just stupid. I really hope this place gets new owners, and soon! read more

Spectacular! Running an ice hockey tournament here this week.. and all I have to say is WOW!! The rink was extremely prepared to host 40+ teams coming in and out for games. Super clean, temperate checks, sanitized locker rooms, benches and bathrooms after each game. Following all of the Covid polices and procedures. The staff is very friendly and on top of everything. From locker room assignments, to getting the ice rink ready-our tournament has been a great success thus far because of the rink staff. Thank you guys! read more

I have been playing at this rink since 2003 and nothing has really changed with it. I find it very frustrating since I was a rink operations manager for a few rinks in Texas from 98-01, we were told on several occasions that we had the best ice in west Texas. The management sucks here, lead from the front, not the front office, if you cannot maintain your ice then you need to find someone who can. The ice is your product and your product sucks. This is the home ice for UofL and this is an embarrassment. I am certain that I could take better care of the ice. You can honestly tell that the owners do not give a shit about their business, most likely using it as a tax right off. read more

One of the pizzas was not edible it was burnt black on bottom, will post pic. We had to ask for our drinks after the kids ate and were lined up at water fountain. I totally understand that ice skates are not meant to be comfortable but their quality of skates are literally the worst that I've ever seen in my life. I have been ice skating ever since I was little and this is probably the worst time I've had. The so called "skate gaurd" was probably 15 and didn't do his job because there were tons of kids standing around on the ice on their phone or there were even a few kids purposely calling and cutting off others to make them fall (like what he did to my fiance). I understand kids will be kids and they make dumb choices but the quality of the skates were literally plastic and their employees weren't the friendliest. Going to alpine from now on. read more

To be honest I was here for the UofL vs. UK Hockey game, but I can say the restrooms were clean, the snack bar was in decent order, and the collegiate hockey was amazing. Maybe as a Louisville fan I am biased (we won 7 - 1), but the place seemed well managed - even with open skate, a college rivalry hockey game, and a birthday party. I've been skating at Iceland for a couple of years now and i am quite convinced that if it wasn't for a very few individuals your place of business would be doomed. The guys that work the daytime shift is what really keeps this place open. ( The night shift , not even close ). One should really ask " why are these clowns still employed ". Recently i joined the adult hockey program...and everything has been great so far. but there are a few concerns that need to be addressed.....your snack bar is never open, if and when it is then it closes at 8pm...some nights you have games playing close to midnight....( there's a no brainer ). Also it is next to impossible to come in the evening before your adult game and get into the pro shop. its never open...and you can forget about asking anyone on the night shift to even sharpen skates. they said there is no one in the building at that moment who can sharpen skates...the present night there were four ( 4 ) in the office. one being the young zamboni driver and three others watching hockey on computers and playing on there phones, it was quiet obvious that they did not want to be bothered. You can run your business the way that you want, but if it was me, i would definitely take care of the ones that take care of me, the two gentlemen on day day shift are the best, I don't know there names, I think one is called Becks ( Tall guy with a long ponytail ). and the other is a stocky gentlemen that always wears Michigan State University clothing....These two are the best. they always go out of there way to do anything for you...So if there is any praise out of this review you definitely owe it to these two gentlemen. and just maybe one day the rest of your staff can learn from them. Unfortunately this is the only place in town to ice skate, so there is not much incentive to fix the place up. It has two large rinks and a very cold lobby/waiting area away from the ice. We attended a birthday party here for a 10 year old, and we couldn't get onto the ice until 20 minutes after the party started since a hockey game was going on. The birthday girl's parents were less than happy. Then, you cannot get into a super tight party room to set up because people are in there before you lingering around from an earlier party. Bathrooms were disgusting with no working soap or paper towel dispensers. Worst of all, one of the girls fell and took a skate blade to the roof of her mouth. When we asked for some first aid supplies, the management said they only had band aids!! REALLY!? Seems like a facility like that would be required to have gauze or some sort of kit with supplies like that? Fortunately, one of the guest's moms was a dentist and took a good look. She is okay, but pretty scary. Closing words...go if you must skate, but don't expect it to be clean or prepared for any sort of emergency. Kids will have fun anyway; not a great place to sit and wait on them though. read more

I have been a skate repair specialist for the Galleria Mall in Dallas, and Operations Manager for Music City Mall Ice Rink in Odessa Texas, and Operations Manager for Blue Line Ice Complex in North Richland Hills Texas. We had the best ice in west Texas. The number one thing for ANY facility is the ice skating surface. If you do not know how to maintain that than you WILL lose business. The Iceland Ice Complex needs a face lift. Retrain the staff or replace them. Its obvious that no longer like what they do. The building itself needs better maintenance and that is what the Operations Manager should be doing. Fix some of the dasher boards, put in a Low E ceiling to keep out the humidity, fix up the players benches, get better lighting. As far as the Zamboni, replace the rag on the conditioner, use hot water. Clean up the Zamboni, get a wrap put on it spruce it up! Skate repair is in need of better staff. For the last 5 plus years I have ALWAYS heard, don't get your skates sharpened there. I had mine sharpened and the guy was going to fast. I placed a quarter in my blades afterward and the quarter had a lean to it. I had a high edge and no hollow. I went back to the guy and asked for a deeper hollow and fix the edges, I had an even less hollow after. This was the worst repair I have ever seen. The guy did not check to see if the blade was centered on the stone, "Two Tick" method. Then instead of going steady and smooth he was grinding away, back and forth like he was grinding on a piece of metal. Staff members. From what I have seen the staff have attitudes and are not very customer friendly. Perhaps its because they know that nothing will happen to them since there is no one really in charge there. Who is the Manager? Who is the Operational Manager? We know who the Hockey Director is. And as far as the Owner, I will give you $10,000 for that facility, it obvious you are not really using it or even care about it. I could make it better and I people would actually want to come and visit and play hockey without feeling like they are throwing away there money when they join a league. I mean really, we pay $250.00 per player per season for what? For facility that is run down and poorly maintained. For a place where there is a youth travel team, University College players this place is an embarrassment. read more
