I had my daughter's 9th birthday party there and we had an amazing time! The staff was super nice, welcoming and friendly!

My husband had a hankering to go ice skating, and we were looking around to see what rink's public skating hours matched up with our schedule. The appeal to this rink is the value pricing. The skate rental for my husband and the adult admission was very reasonably priced for a fun, family friendly afternoon at the ice rink. I had brought my own skates though, and even owning skates I kind of wish I had rented since the quality of the ice is pretty poor. I had asked if they ever Zamboni the rink, as I couldn't tell where the Zamboni would come in, and the ice was very chewed up. I was told yes, so maybe the Zamboni came out right after we left. The facilities are also pretty old, with some maintenance very evidently needed. My main qualm was the quality of the ice. If you're new to skating and want to give it a try, this is a great entry-level place at a good rate. read more

Alpine ice arena is a louisville ice skating rink located in the newburg colmmunity of the city of Gardiner lane. The city of Lousiville is limited on I've skating rinks. You have alpine here and Iceland complex out east in the city. My family and friends go I've skating probably 3-4 times a calendar years. We have gone to both locations. Alpine is a smaller ice skating rink without the bells and whistles Iceland has. For instance the skates here are tie only where they overland has straps across the top for tighter foot wear. The areas I prefer alpine over the competitors is they have much better customer service. At the competitors we've had several issues with young workers who don't pay attention and ice rink "officials" who care more about being goofy with friends and doing tricks then monitoring the ice. Here on my experiences everyone has been nice and pleasant and appear to appreciate your business. Outside the ice skating rink they do have a small concession and one party room that can be rented out. They have much more availed free skate times and you can skate pretty much all day for around $11 a person after tickets and skate rentals. So not a bad deal at all. At other locations with I've skating rinks your time is limited because of constant hockey practices and things like that. So This place is the best bang for your buck when it comes to ice skating in the city or louisville. Overall a fun place to spend an evening ice skating. Not the largest or newest location but it has that nice nostalgic feeling of a classic roller/ice skating rink. Plus give me the top notch and caring service all day. read more

This was our first ice skating experience! It was the most fun I have personally had in a very long time. They had the 'walkers' for the inexperienced and it gave us confidence to get in the ice. We bought our own skates now! Awesome facility! Very clean, kind and accommodating. read more

I was skeptical about visiting this establishment based off some very very unflattering google and yelp reviews but I'm here to report I'm glad I disregarded those reviews and went because I had a great time! 14 bucks for shoes and entrance is a great deal, they got a concession stand with cheap snacks. Seating area. The shoes are a bit worn out but other then that I enjoyed the place. The ice rink was well maintained even with 56 degree Saturday weather outside - I didn't notice any wet spots. The rink is huge too. Lots of kids there. Christmas music playing. The look of the place was interesting. It's an old rink but well maintained, well priced and best of all you can skate unlimited. There is no time constraint. 14 bucks gets you as much ice skating as you want - which is unlike any other ice rink around. If you're going ice skating - this is the place to go. read more

Alpine is an OK place for some ice skating. If you're asking me, I honestly don't think any of our ice rinks in Louisville are that great - most of them are swarmed with crazy teenagers and everything else is pretty mediocre. The price isn't too bad for skating; there is no time limit so you can skate as much as you'd like. The ice itself is not the smoothest; definitely a lot of chunks and holes in the ice. They have a stand where you can get some cheap snacks or hot chocolate, which is nice. The staff here are typically teens, and I haven't really experienced any type of great customer service here. You can also take skating lessons here. I used to take classes years ago and it was pretty fun - you can learn how to backwards skate, how to stop and some cool tricks. Some hockey games are held here as well. All in all Alpine gets the job done - nothing that will wow you but a decent enough place to get some skating in. read more

Came here with my sisters for some fun was a disaster the place smelled horrible so dark and dull in there not welcoming at all it was 30 for 3 people and I payed an extra 25$ for a 15 min ice skating lesson because my sisters were having a hard time when the tutor came out she told my sister to switch her skates she she missed more than half the time and then random people kept coming up to her along her questions and instead of telling her that we payed for her time she stops to help everyone else I just don't understand why I payed 25$ absolute bull shit and the ice was really rough so hard to skate on not smooth at all not to mention the ceiling was so nasty read more

This place was unbelievable. Lady yelled at us when we were returning skates when she was the one that mixed up our shoes. She was a red headed lady with a navy lanyard and used rude profanity. Also very smelly outside and very smelly inside. Chunks of ice were missing and caused us to almost fall several times. Bathrooms were horribly disgusting and the stall door was so low I could see over when sitting down. Garbage was everywhere in the place and all workers were kind of rude especially the lady where you returned your skates. I would not recommend at all. read more

This is the best place by far to go to... sure they don't Zamboni the ice every two minutes... but who wants to wait every couple hours to zamboni ice that takes thirty minutes to an hour...They are super friendly compared to other ones I've been to... they know our name everytime we come in there. This place was so unbelievably rude and the lady with strawberry blonde/red hair was insanely rude to us as we were returning our skates and used profanity she had on a cardigan and a lanyard. It was fun until we interacted with the workers, I do not recommended this place at all The building has a funny smell to it and there is garbage everywhere, they could definitely do better but don't want to. There are chunks of ice missing everywhere which can be a safety hazard along with the animal or possible human feces all around the outside of the rink and the bathrooms are insanely disgusting. I had to give it at least 2 stars because despite everything, I had a blast. I came here with some friends looking forward to potentially injuring myself on the ice. Which I thought would be due to my own clumsiness and not the dire state of the ice at the rink. There was a sign warning skaters that the ice was rather rough thanks to the zamboni being on the fritz, or something. And that was really under-selling the state of the ice. "Covered in snow" would have been a better warning. The only options for skates were hockey style skates. I've only ever skated with figure skate style ones...you know, the ones with toe picks that can help you stop or give you more traction? The hockey skates were too big, and I couldn't lace them up high enough to support my ankles and feet (frayed shoelace ends). And maybe it's because it has been ages since I've ice skated....but the rink felt really tiny. The whole place was a bit run-down feeling. I will say, the place was packed! I don't know if that is a normal thing, or an effect of the recent Groupon they had. But either way....I feel like they should be making enough money with that kind of crown to fix the zamboni... I'm not sure I would come back here. There is another rink in town, that I hear is much nicer. And if I'm shelling out as much money as I did, I'd like it to be nice and the ice smooth. read more

From the amateur entry door/ cashier area to the skate pick-up/swap area, it's just crowded and smelly. Let me start by saying that I am a 50+ male who never had his feet in ice skates prior to coming here with a friend who is an serious avocational skater. It was a nice time on the open skate - scary for someone whose skating experience was on roller skates to the pinball machines in the 1979s. I found the rink to be clean and competent for the beginning skater. Will I go back? It depends on my figure skater Flame Dame. read more

It was pretty crowded when we arrived. $8 for rental and unlimited skating for the evening seemed a good price. The skates I got were in pretty good condition for rentals except the laces were absurdly tangled; it took me over 40 minutes to untangle them and get the skates on my feet. Once I was good to go though, I went out on the ice. The patronage were all generally friendly even though it was crowded, but the ice was in terrible shape. The Zamboni had gone out at about an hour earlier, and the ice looked like people had been skating on it for 8-10 hours instead of just one. We still had a fun time though, because we had the right mix of silly people skating together. read more

The state of disrepair at this rink is deplorable. Skate here at your own risk. When we arrived at the start of open skate we noticed a sign in the window of the ticket booth advising that the Zamboni had just broken and that the ice was a bit rough but in good condition for beginners. My boyfriend and I are both beginners and we had a Groupon so we went ahead and redeemed the voucher. When we actually saw the ice it had nearly an inch of "snow" on top of it and gashes all over the surface. I can only guess that this was from not having been cleared with the Zamboni in a very long time. The rental skates were also in bad condition and they only rent men's hockey skates. Neither my boyfriend's or my skates were sharp which made skating very difficult. I also witnessed two separate individuals exchange skates with broken blades. It is really a shame that this facility is in such disrepair. As one of only two options to ice skate in Louisville it could be such a fun family friendly place. read more

Awful!! From start to finish. First you get to walk on a dirty floor and try to find a place to put your skates on in a tiny crowded room of old benches. The skates were in horrible shape, not easy to lace or put on. Then you get onto the most jacked up ice rink I have ever skated on, a figure skater might have trouble here. I took a group of girls here for a day of fun, but we didn't have anything but blisters, and left after an hour. read more

Can't review the actual skating because I didn't make it inside. I managed to pull in the parking lot and didn't bottom out my vehicle despite the massive pot holes. The outside looked rough but I don't like to judge a book by it's cover. I walked in to scope it out while I left my family in the car. As I glanced in at the rink through the tinted glass, I could see cones and construction tape marking off a large area of the ice. No thanks. Went to Iceland instead for $1 more. I was really disappointed with this place, we had a good time but the skates were very dull, and the condition of the ice was horrible!!! Bumps all over the ice from water dripping from the roof, and no zamboni!!! The place needs a serious update. Next time I'll go to Iceland, same price and nicer facility.. read more

Tried on 4 pairs of skates before eventually giving up and leaving when the blade was coming off the last pair. This is our family's go to skating rink. To the folks complaining about the ice, they had a compressor go down and with the unusually warm weather it was difficult for them to keep the ice solid because the ambient temperature was too warm for only one compressor. They did not hide the fact and more than likely told you the ice was less than perfect and gave you the option to check out the ice before paying. They have since spent a considerable amount of money (over 30K) repairing the compressors and the ice is virtually flawless now, even with the warmer than usual temperatures. This is a local family owned ice rink, the staff is friendly, the owners are accessible and always on site, and it is reasonably priced good family fun. read more

Don't waste your money! The skates are old, and in need of sharpening so badly they are unsafe. The ice is uneven with clumps and appeared like it hadn't been cleaned in days. They have very few pairs of figure skates - appeared only for small kids and looked as though 1970's era, offering little to no support. The reason most everyone is on the outside holding on to the wall is the poor shape of everything! Expensive....$45 down the drain. read more

I thought I was purchasing a groupn for another ice rink (whoops) but went with my nieces anyway and what a MISTAKE! The place is dingy, dirty and smells. The bathroom was horrible and no toilet paper in the stalls. The ice rink itself was small and we got there at the beginning of the open skate session. The ice had gashes in it and made it difficult to skate. We lasted thirty minutes there and then left. read more

Dirty. Thuggy looking teens hanging around the entrance smoking...not a good first impression. Rental skates are in bad shape and stinky. Poorly lit lobby with urine smell from restrooms. Overall, just filthy. I refused to let my kids eat anything from the snack bar. Music was just for the teen crowd and way too loud. And to top it off, the ice was in such bad shape that it was impossible to enjoy skating on it. Obviously no plans to zamboni it. And the sign says "No Refunds"!! Never again. read more

I'm a local, and I've been going here for years. I took group lessons here on Sundays when I was younger, and since then I've always had a blast. Since I have my own skates and there's a coupon on their website, I can get in for five bucks to skate as long as I want! (Admission is six dollars and the coupon takes off one dollar.) When I first step onto the ice, it's smooth as glass because they run the Zamboni before every public session. Whenever I want to take a break, I can get a cup of hot chocolate for just a dollar to relax and chat with friends. Iv'e never had a problem with the bathrooms (or smells?).
