I have had nothing but good experiences here.. It's nice to have a Chinese restaurant that is not a buffet.. it's the only one in this area that makes scallion chicken the way it's supposed to be.. they have many dishes that you cannot get at any restaurant in the county.. unfortunately it doesn't get the business it should because most people go to the buffet down the road.. The food is always consistent and every plate i've had was good. The service has been good and i have no complaints. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys more of a traditional Chinese restaurant. read more

I hate to give this place such a low rating because everyone working there was so nice and I will caveat that we didn't try any of the sushi, but we were really disappointed with the food. The edamame was a little crunchy and the spring rolls were a little mushy on the inside. The gyoza tasted like they were previously frozen and from a distributor, there wasn't much filling in them at all. The other two main dishes really lacked flavor so much so that we didn't bother taking home leftovers. I think we were fooled by all of the stars in the reviews below, and then I noticed the restaurant gave itself five stars while advertising tea. Kind of skews the ratings. read more

We ordered the Spicy Maki Combo, Tiger Roll, and Sushi Sashmi combo to go. When we picked up the order, we asked about the miso soup or salad that comes with the Sushi Bar Entrees as indicated on their menu. We were told that the soup or salad was included for dine in only. This is not indicated on the menu. So, no soup or salad, but they gave us a nice big bowl of ginger and Wasabi! Horrible. Also, the Tiger Roll was not worth the price. Will not go back. Great food, clean bathrooms, great service. We went on a Sunday afternoon. It was wonderful. We had the mango chicken and pad Thai. The mango chicken was so fresh and vibrant. The pad Thai was good but a little spicier than I care for but not too bad. We also had the sweet potato sushi which was so excellent I forgot to take a picture until it was gone. This is a hidden gem - the best Asian food we've ever had is right here in Chocowinity. The food practically screams freshness, and it's cooked perfectly. The presentation is great. I posted a review of this restaurant about 2 years when I was in love with this place. It saddens me to know the high quality they use to hold for their food has diminished. Today I ordered my usual, 2 Philadelphia rolls and miso soup. The soup was fantastic as always. However, the sushi grade is not what it use to be. Now, with all things considered in COVID times, I could see making some budget cuts to keep the place going. The cuts were definitely made in the sushi department. Fish is not fresh nor are the vegetables and seaweed wrapping. The sushi is mushy and I bit into a hard piece of something that I have no clue was. I am sad to say I may never go back especially since this was my favorite place in all of Beaufort county. read more

One word...sushi! Ichiban has some of the best rolls I've ever had in the Special Roll section of the menu. Very high quality and the rolls are large. I also love their miso soup. Disappointed, we ordered miso soup, came out luke warm and instead of miso had wontons in it, beef and broccoli which tasted very very sweet that the sauce was over powering and hibachi shrimp which was not cooked in a hibachi was more like a canned product covered in a very sweet sauce. We come to the Greenville, NC area from time to time, & often stay in Chocowinity when we do, but this is the first time we had noticed this restaurant. Due to its proximity to the hotel where we were staying, we decided to try it. What a pleasant surprise! My husband ordered Cashew Chicken, and pronounced it "the best he had ever eaten"! I could say the same for the Beef & Broccoli I ordered! Very reasonably priced, the dinners came with soup, fried rice, and egg/spring rolls, all of which were quite tasty. While I've waited and contemplated whether to share this review, in the end I thought it may be helpful to others looking for healthy choices. We're thrilled to have a local restaurant in the nearby community, especially one that offers quality sushi and even budget combos for families; however, with that said, there are little to no healthy options offered on OR off the menu for anyone trying to eat clean or following a low carb / keto diet! Everything is either sugared down or heavily ladened sauces. I even asked if they could provide a stir fry or any type of meal (I'm not picky) without the added sugar or thickening agents (not to mention high sodium) to which I received a flat "no" - not even an offer of compromise! This hit me wrong, especially as businesses are struggling to stay open and ask customers to support them during the challenge of Covid-19. My hope is that this review doesn't fall upon deaf ears and that management hears my concerns and makes a concerted effort to make changes to the menu options and/or offers to accommodate customer diet restrictions. read more

One of my favorite places to eat. The staff is a always inviting and the food is always amazing. Quality product and superior flavor.

We picked up dinner for our family last weekend but when we got home the rice was missing. Had to drive all the way back to get it. Dinner was cold but not even an extra fortune cookie or discount was offered for our trouble. This last time we dined in the restaurant, my husband's order was brought out but mine took an additional 30 minutes to prepare. Portions are relatively small & the food is average. I work at the hotel across the street and often eat here. The food is excellent for this area. You aren't going to find many places that serve Thai or curry around here. Both are excellent. The sushi is really good. The sake is great. Some of the best sake I've ever had they serve here. Sho Chiku Bai Nigori Creme de Sake is the name of it I believe. 0 burn, smooth, nice taste. Great staff as you probably read with the other reviews they are very friendly. Wife and I have been there twice. First time I had hibachi chicken. It was good. If the white sauce had been spot on delicious like it is in many Japanese restaurants, I would be giving five stars. Second time I had Thai pad chicken. Presentation was a little weak, but the food's taste and large quantity more than made up for it. Wife had sweet and sour chicken both times and enjoyed. The sweet and sour soup is also good. Had an order of spring rolls. Three fairly small rolls for $3.99 is a little pricey, but they were very tasty. I decided ahead to visit Ichiban. Called to confirm Asian beer offerings and front of house manager was very nice and offered great information. I drove a few miles and arrived to a filled parking lot and a nice crowd. Ample parking along the rear, too. No problem. The wait staff greeted and seated me. I chose the sushi bar and immediately felt comfortable. The drinks are a very good offering. The decor is minimal and nice. Service is out of this world. The sashimi appetizer was sumptuous and presented beautifully. My next delight was a squid salad that was the best I have had. The pickling of the squid was perfection. Super friendly waitress. The day I visited my lunch party were the only ones there. Now, let's break down the food, every drop of everything we ordered was not yummy. It seriously just tasted like well, just food. Not specifically Chinese, Japanese, just food. No taste of any nationality. When I go to a Chinese restaurant I want to taste China, not America. It was purely tasteless or I would say Chinese food with American taste but without seasoning. We tried to put soy sauce on our dishes but it didn't help. When the waitress came back well needless to say she took full plates back with her. The one other thing was the waitress did not get my order right although I repeated it to her 4-5 times. I've been to this restaurant several times, as this is the only restaurant in our area that offers sushi. I'm not a person who is easily impressed, so I often shrug off minor irritations. However, we went there for dinner this evening and it was the worst visit yet. First off, it took a very long time to just to get a drink. Next thing, i asked if my veggies for my hibachi could be cooked a little longer. The waitress said no problem and went on with the orders. I ordered a spring roll with my meal this time, as the soup isn't very good (in my opinion), which was supposed to be delivered to us first along with the sushi we ordered. The two persons accompanying me received their soup. No worries, I was sure my spring roll was on the way. Next while I waited and watched my Friends eat they brought out our main courses. No spring roll or sushi. Sushi doesn't keep well so we waited before eating our meals so we could enjoy our sushi first. When I got my meal, I noticed the veggies weren't cooked a longer as I had asked. So I asked the waitress if she could ask the cook to cook them a bit longer. She replied, " I could ask but he will yell at me.." I told her not to worry about it if she would be yelled at! On top of that, still no sushi or spring roll.. Finally some random girl was walking by and my friend asked where the sushi was, mind you this is an hour after our order was taken. This girl brings the sushi that had been sitting on the counter the entire time, then explained to us that she didn't even work there and that she waitress tables for free to help her friend. We gave the girl a tip as well. I finally received my spring roll with the check.. I was very disappointed in this visit as my plan was to treat my friend to some good sushi near by. I was embarrassed for taking her there. Will not be treating friends here again. As far as the cook yelling at the wait staff, something should be done regarding that.
