I assumed someone might grab a paper towel or another option from the back, but after waiting a few minutes while my daughter kept saying, "Mommy, sticky," I realized that wasn't happening. I finally just told her to wipe her hands on my pants because we didn't have anything else. Then I went looking for utensils to make things a little less messy and found only one fork, so my daughter and I shared it. I know these seem like small things, but my family owned a restaurant growing up, so I also know how much the little moments shape whether someone feels cared for. We live in an area with a lot of young families, and even small gestures like having napkins stocked, keeping utensils available, or offering a paper towel when someone is clearly juggling little kids can make people feel genuinely welcomed.
