Absolutely love this restaurant--delicious food and consistently great service. I've been for both lunch and dinner, and both are well worth it. Highly recommend! One quick callout: make sure you have your card before leaving. I don't think anything nefarious is going on, but something about the way cards are returned makes them easy to forget. We accidentally left ours behind, called, and were able to pick it up without issue. When we did, there were easily 100+ other cards being held directly on the host stand (which my husband recalled seeing the night we dined). The attached photo shows 4 of the 6 stacks of cards. Ichiban is the best quality AYCE sushi in the cities! The price is a little steep compared to other places but the quality, ambiance, and plating is significantly nicer. The restaurant is cute and vibey, and every staff member I've interacted with has been friendly. The slices of sashimi are thick and fresh. My favorite roll is the Crunch Roll, which has shrimp tempura and sauces drizzled on top. The steak hibachi is fantastic and has great smokey flavor. I wasn't the biggest fan of the teriyaki because the glaze was thick and too sweet for my taste. Miso soup, the California roll, and edamame were standard. The Dragon Ball appetizer was a little bit on the mushier side. For desserts, the matcha snow is definitely the star, along with the creme brûlée. First time at Ichiban Sushi- they don't take reservations for groups leas than 6, but we went on a Saturday night and were lucky to get seated rather quickly. We sat at one of the sushi counters which I think is always really fun. They give you a welcome shot of sake which was good. We ordered a lot to start: beef tataki, yellowtail jalapeños, agedashi tofu, crispy rice tuna and gyoza. All the starters were really delicious but my favorite was the beef tataki. Then, I think I ordered every possible tuna Maki roll that didn't have cream cheese and they were all very good. This is our go to sushi place for the freshest fish and amazing value (especially at dinner or on the weekends, when sashimi is available). We've lived all over the country and traveled a lot and this is one of the best sushi places we've found. When we moved to the area last fall we were blown away by the quality and service here. All the servers are so friendly and helpful, especially Justin and Marquis. I noticed some past reviews mentioned that they were asked to finish their food before ordering more - Yes, they have policies in place to prevent waste, and it's sad they have to. But if you order and eat responsibly it's not an issue. We've been here about 10 times, order quite a bit each time, and have never had anyone say anything to delay or not fill the orders. I feel like I can be picky on sushi so this wasn't my favorite place but I would like to give it a try again... Finally got a chance to check out this place on a weekday for their lunch menu. Lunch is $25 per person. For a weekday lunch time, the place was packed with people. We were surprised. We were glad we were seated right away because we came around 1pm and they close at 2:30. There are a lot of menu items compared to places I've been to. You definitely have a lot of options. Most menu items are the typical you would find at other places as well like fried appetizers, rolls, nigiri, teriyaki and rice bowls. Unlike other places they have a hibachi menu that comes with protein, veggies and fried rice. You can order the protein only since rice and veggies can be filling as can seen in one of the photos. Honest to say, the steak was good and tender (Better than steak teriyaki) but don't recommend to get the veggies and fried rice. The ramen: not recommended either. The broth was not rich. Surprising they have this a salmon thin slice with sauce under appetizers and ahi tuna. It's kind of like sashimi-ish so you can get those fixed Overall. It has a nice atmosphere and a lot of options for everything. Some dishes were def good but some were just mediocre. Our group visited Ichiban on a Friday night and are already planning another trip back!! We had about a 30 min wait for a table, not too bad (they only take reservations for groups 6 or more). I was glad that everything here felt like it matched the higher price point, and the flavor and freshness the food reflected that as well. Everything was delicious, our favorites were definitely the salmon (sashimi and carpaccio), scallop, tuna chip, and other sashimi/nigiri options! It was great that they also have fun dessert options, including mochi ice cream, matcha ice, and a house dessert special (Oreo mousse cake the day we were there). We used to enjoy this restaurant, but our most recent visit was extremely disappointing and alarming. My family and I ended up with FOOD POISONING, which we suspect came from the raw oyster special served on Tuesdays. The food quality has declined significantly. Some sashimi (tuna, salmon) lacked flavor, while others (snapper) had a strong fishy taste. Fried dishes were undercooked and had a doughy texture, and even past favorites like the Ichiban ramen and matcha snow ice were not nearly as good as they used to be. Additionally, I had to call three separate times just to get a refund for our $60 online reservation deposit. This wasn't the first time it's happened to me. They don't issue refunds automatically, so you have to follow up multiple times if you want your money back. Definitely not returning again. UPDATE: I called to inform the restaurant about the food poisoning incident. Wasn't trying to cause trouble but felt it was important to let them know, and see if they'd offer a partial refund since 4 out of 6 of us became seriously ill. I spoke with the manager, Jerry, who was extremely dismissive and showed no empathy. Rather than expressing concern, he said things like "You don't know if it was our food" and "Raw seafood comes with risks." He also added, "We see customers go to our bathroom and throw up all the time because they ate too much," as if that somehow explained what happened. He was rude the entire time, frequently interrupted me while I was speaking, and made it clear that no refund would be offered. Their food made us seriously sick, and the management is just as bad. If you are looking to spend $40+ to have rice shoved down your throat, you came to the right sushi place. We have been going to Ichiban for years whenever I visit Minnesota and was pleasantly surprised at the portions for the value. ***However, returning in 2025, this restaurant has been completely overhauled by shrinkflation. The price has increased and the portion size of the fish has also been cut paper thin. This is a dirty tactic and I was happy to pay the increased prices if it had not been for the insultingly paper thin cuts on large portions of rice. I can't even rate the fish in this review, only the rice, because this was like the La Croix of sushi. Do not be deceived by the photo, it is deceiving how much rice is actually densely packed under the fish wrapping around it. 5 minutes into the meal, my girlfriend was extremely disappointed by the portion sizes, but wanted to still give this place a chance. She had eaten LESS of the rice so she could actually TASTE the fish. This is important because after a few pieces, our server Mr. Zhao came to our table visually upset that she wasn't most of the rice, AND yelled at her to eat it. I was definitely shocked at how he approached it, instead of politely asking her to finish the rice. I even offered to eat the rice for her because that was already 99% of my meal anyway at this point. Instead, he sort of scoffed at her and then took away the very small plate of unfinished rice and told her to finish the rest of the rice on the other pieces. If it was not already awkward enough, I had basically lost my appetite from that confrontation, and I think Mr. Zhao also felt that awkwardness, so he tried to rectify it by being 'nicer' around us. You do not have to fake it, the damage was already done, Zhao. All in all, if you are a bit of a masochist who loves eating plain rice and wants to spend $40 per person during LUNCH, this is the perfect place for you. For me however, I do not believe I will not be returning any time soon until the greed of the owners changes and the retraining of their staff. What a joke. Bad experience! Controlling/unwelcoming server. I come here regularly, and the food is consistently ok. However, the service can be hit or miss. My last visit was particularly disappointing. Our server, Justin, refused to take additional orders, claiming we had "maxed out" and could only order more food after finishing at least 50% of our current dishes (we only had a few appetizers and some sashimi at this point).
