Very, VERY POOR customer service. We've been here before and it wasn't a pleasant experience (both with food and customer service) so after a couple of years, I thought, "Maybe they've improved." Nope. The place didn't look busy at all, but we waited to be seated - there were no greetings, no acknowledgement that we were waiting, when we finally got seated, we had to wait just get the menu (because our phones didn't have any signal to get the online menu through the QR code). Mind you, I had to flag the host to ask for the menu and even then we STILL had to wait for him to give it to us. Long story short, we just got up and left. If there customer service is that bad, I wasn't going to wait around for the food. I went on here (Yelp) to see if it was just me. Seriously, read the other low-rate posts... as well. My goodness this place is loud. "What was that?" I said place is really loud! The selection of sushi rolls is huge but the all seem to have the same ingredients just in different order. A lot of salmon, asparagus, and jalapeño. There was only 2 rolls we could eat. When we got them they were massive. The average person could never fit it in their mouth in one bit. The other thing was the plates were very very messy. The sauce dripping off the sides of the plates. I guess I'm use to sushi looking like art. Not good eye a peel. The flavor was good but there are better sushi restaurants to go to. We also got the beef ramen. Not worth talking about. Not good. To much bell pepper. read more

I've been coming here for the last few years. It's been great service and food. 10/10 on sushi. I can't say the same for the service there 3/10, terrible. We walked in and the there was no acknowledgement until I approached one of the waitresses. Eye contact avoidance is common at this restaurant if you're trying to get any attention from the staff. I noticed more people coming in while we were sitting and it was the same thing with other clients: no acknowledgement. The restaurant wasn't busy at the time so there was no excuse. As I said, food was amazing. We ordered the Ace roll, Spider-Man roll, Godzilla roll, and mango crunch roll. Fantastic rolls! If you like unagi and spicy mayo sauce, you can't go wrong. The Godzilla and Ace rolls were my favorite with the best tasting for freshness and flavor. This is our second time coming in since they moved two doors down, however, this is the first time the staff was just not acknowledging the customers. We only got checked up on once throughout our 1 hour stay there. At the end, the bill took the longest to acquire. I will be back and hope the staff is having better days. read more

Called five times four out of the five rang to voicemail and the other time someone answered and hung up. That was over the span of a little more than hour(7:03-8:14). Walked in at 8:20 and was told last time for take out was at 8:15!!! Didn't say anything cause I'm sure they would have just made an excuse. This place is very busy. The waitress's are extremely overwhelmed. I know help is hard to get so we patiently waited Quite a while for our meal. My husbands came first, I had to wait 5 minutes more for my dish. I had to ask for the wasabi which came later My selection was served on uncleaned tray, seemed it was carelessly washed, when I sent my meal back the same tray came to me wet! I asked for another tray- clean and dry. The rice was not as sushi rice should be seasoned- very bland. It takes a while to go through the huge menu. This place is not a traditional Japanese restaurant. We do not recommend this place. read more

The food is very, very good. We had come here a few times before. Once way before the pandemic and once during 2020 once they opened for takeout. The sushi is a somewhat "Mexicanized" take on Japanese fare but it's really well done and I applaud them for catering to their base audience and customers. The customer service? OMG you better order to take out and save yourself the aggravation. The young ladies they have working there have the attention span of a firefly. One of them just left us in the middle of taking our order to attend a customer who had just walked in. The next one forgot who ordered what drinks. Then they brought the ginger / wasabi without the dishes. When I tried to ask for dishes she looked annoyed at me having to ask. Then they bought my wife's sushi. And I waited and waited. 20 minutes. Finally the gentleman behind the bar noticed I was waiting forever and gave one of them the "eyeball", then they had to look at the ticket to see what they had forgotten to get me. It was so bad we had to laugh out loud. Then we asked for our bill, and they forgot. We had to walk up and ask for it again. "Do you have the ticket?" She asked. "No" I said. She then asked what I had so she could find it. Amazing. Come for the food. That is great. But Just hold your nose for the customer service. It is terrible. read more

Although they are very accomodating here, I would not recommend Ichiban for sushi. All of the rolls. ALL of the rolls are covered in eel sauce. Personally I think this masks the freshness (or lack thereof) of the fish. My husband got the sashimi and all of the pieces, although generous servings, were not a good color. Large portions to go with the large bill. My teriyaki beef was horrible, had a drizzle of sauce over grey dry beef with sear marks that burned the meat all the way through in spots. The rolls I got were large , but bland. The sashimi was fresh and delicious and the tempura was good, with large portions.If you want expensive Americanized sushi , this is your spot. Our visit was very disappointing. The restaurant was not overly busy, yet it took 45 minutes for us to get our rolls. While waiting for our food, the back door kept being opened and left open. (it's raining and COLD outside) . As we were sitting closest to the back, we kept getting blasted by the cold air. We asked if the door needed to be open, and told it didn't. I think we got up no less than 3 times to close the door. We also watched 2 other tables get their food before we did, yet we arrived and ordered before them. When the food arrived, it looked as if it was prepared in haste, and did not look to be the same quality we're used to from this place. The rolls weren't done well, and they looked like a dirty knife cut them. Our valencia rolls were smaller than usual, had about 1/2 of the toppings they usually have, and only half of the pieces actually had fish in them! Meanwhile another roll for which we added toppings was piled high. When paying the bill, we asked if there was a management or ownership change as we noticed this was unusual. When explaining why we were asking, we were met with disinterest and even irritation that we shared less-than-positive feedback. Our last 2 visits have been underwhelming, and I think it's going to be some time before we head back. We'll be trying some other places to see what else we can find out there. I recently made reservations for a club I belong to and called the day before to confirm our reservations. I was told they were all set for the 20 of us. Upon arriving they claimed they had no record of our reservations and since they only had two servers, they could not accommodate us and made no effort to even try. I was rudely dismissed by one of the servers but fortunately the restaurant next door, Ay Carumba , graciously set up for us and we had great food and great service. We will not be going back to Ichiban Sushi, RUDE is not acceptable to a group of seniors. read more

As Prunedalians, we want to patronize our home owned businesses. Ichiban is a great example of a local business with stand-out food and service. We've eaten here a couple of times but this gem needs to be on our bi-weekly rotation! Today, we arrived at 2:15 only to be told that the restaurant closed in 15 minutes. When the server came back to take our drink orders, my darling husband asked her if we should come back another time. She was most gracious and said no; we could order and take our time eating. Normally, we're purists and have sashimi but my darling was feeling festive. He ordered the Miyasaki Roll, and the Hamachi Roll for us. I can not begin to tell you how wonderful the Miyasaki was in flavor and beauty. I'm not fond of cilantro nor of unagi sauce but the combo of that plus tiny steak bites, green onion, and jalapenos with the crab shrimp and shrimp tempura was AMAZING!! The Hamachi Roll was delicious in its simplicity. I had a super stinko day today but sharing those two rolls with my darling and having a big Sapporo made life better and all for less than $40. read more

I am so so disappointed. I have been coming here for a few years because their food has always been amazing and their customer service has always been the best.... I ordered about $80 worth of food (4 California rolls and 3 Ichiban sashimi salad) I specifically asked for no white fish of any kind. They stated they use two different white fish in their Ichiban sashimi salad and I told them NO WHITE FISH of any kind. I have ordered it this way many many times and they have always gotten my order right so I wasn't worried at all. (My bad) I came to pick it up my order with my daughter and we asked the cashier to once again make sure there was no white fish in our salad because my husband just can't eat it... makes him gag. The cashier assured me that there was no white fish in any of the salads I ordered! I didn't question it since I have literally been going there for YEARS! Well, I guess things have changed there...lol. So I get home (we live about 16-17 miles away, we have always loved the Japanese food there so we have always made the trek to Prunedale) but every single one of our ichiban sashimi salads have ton (and I mean tons!) of white fish!!! I was so shocked! I am not sure if they have changed owners or changed chefs or if the person taking the order and the cashier all just misunderstood me or took down my order wrong or what happened but ALL 3 of my salads were made with white fish when I specifically requested NO WHITE FISH OF ANY KIND! So of course I called and told them about it. The person on the phone stated to just bring the salads back and that they would remake it. So I got back in my car and drove out there again.... I get there about 25 minutes after calling and they don't have my order ready. They didn't even start it! They had me wait another 20 minutes. When I asked if I could just get a refund or even a gift certificate for the amount so that I could use it another time.... they stated they couldn't do that until tomorrow and wanted me to return tomorrow morning to get a refund! I am weak!!! Are you serious???!!! I don't think I will be making that drive out there anymore! They used to be so amazing... I am so sad! What happened here. And just to let you know the ones they "re-made"for us also had some white fish! I was so flabbergasted! Oh well I guess I am on the hunt for another Japanese sushi restaurant! Lol read more

Every time I go there's a group of girls that are hanging out by the host area with the worst customer experience I've ever seen and a straight fucci look on their face. My husband and I who are always looking for the best sushi spots in the area just recently found out of this sushi place. I've lived in the area my whole life and I've never had sushi as amazing as this. The taste, the preparation, the service all: A++ I would like to specifically point out how awesome Stephany was. She was so attentive and extremely sweet to my 16 month daughter. Always checking in on us to see how everything was going. I don't usually rave on this much but I know amazing service when I see it. This place is a hole in the wall To Die For sushi restaurant! Walked in on the first Friday of lent and the place was packed! We were seated right away. Had to wait a minute for drink order but like I said, they were busy. Once we ordered though, our drinks came out fast. I got the Japanese Chavela, you won't be disappointed! The food is amazing! The service need a lot of work! Were there for a While before they even took our drinks, and when they did We were so ready to order they made us wait after they brought our drunks out. We were seated 15 minuted before the family next us arrived and they got their drinks first and food at the same time as us.( don't want to be biased but they were caucasians) (i hope thats not the case) astonishing!
