While staying in williamsburg I wanted to try something new. This place had a sign that said yelp lives us. So I stopped. The service was pretty good. Had us in and out very quickly. The ambiance is ehhh, but not bad. Just needs some better lighting and a nice clean. The red curry was pretty good. The spice was there and the flavor was decent. I never had Thai before so I don't have much to compare it to. I feel like it could've used a little bit more flavor. I had to add some salt and pepper to bring out some more from it and the tofu didn't really hold the flavor of the broth. I would try it again for sure, but I would like to try some other things as well. I do want to say. The veggies were cooked great. Hard snap and flavorful. read more

On a weekend trip to Williamsburg with friends, we decided to try Lanna Thai Cuisine for dinner. The restaurant is older, and the menu covers could use some attention, but our server was very friendly and attentive. We decided on eating family style and ordered appetizers to start off with to share. While the crab rangoon and crispy spring rolls were both hot and fresh, the edamame wasn't. Sadly, we had to send it back. So, our server gladly took it off our bill. The Chicken Pad Thai had an unexpected sweet flavor and it wasn't what we would have preferred, especially in comparison to other Thai cuisine that we've often enjoyed in the past. But, we liked the shrimp fried rice that was very flavorful. We're glad to have stopped in to Lanna Thai. They had several pick up orders while we were dining. There were a couple other tables that seemed to be locals. Would welcome seeing more Yelp reviews on this restaurant to get suggestions on favorite dishes that I should try next time. read more

The food is great! The staff need to be trained to understand the customer. We ordered dumplings but never received them. Even when we asked they did not understand. The place didn't look like much when we entered, but looks are deceiving. The food is the star. I started with a small bowl of tom yum soup. It had the best broth and was full of shrimp and veggies. This could have sufficed as my dinner. I also ordered Pad Thai, not realizing a small bowl of souls was a meal. The Pad Thai was huge and full of more shrimp and veggies all over noodles and a flavorful sauce. Not wanting to waste food, I ate all the shrimp and veggies and some of the noodles. Visited for lunch with a group of friends and we were pleased with our experience! The atmosphere: Such a cute spot, beautifully decorated and welcoming. It works well for both small and larger groups. The menus were especially charming, wrapped in colorful fabric, which felt like a thoughtful touch. The food: I started with the Thai tea, which was definitely on the sweeter side. The menu is extensive with plenty of options, including some Northern Thai dishes. I ordered the Duck Basil. Great flavor overall, though mine was a little dry. Portions are generous and perfect for sharing, and it came with steamed vegetables plus an adorable heart-shaped side of rice. We made a reservation several weeks in advance to celebrate my boyfriend's PhD graduation, so this dinner was meant to be a special occasion. Unfortunately, when we arrived less than five minutes late, we were informed that our table had already been given away and that the restaurant would not be able to accommodate us. This was especially disappointing because we have dined here many times before and have always enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. However, the way this situation was handled felt dismissive, unnecessarily rigid, and ultimately unprofessional. While we understand that restaurants must manage reservations carefully, refusing service over such a minimal delay (particularly for a reservation made well in advance) left a very poor impression. It is unfortunate that what should have been a celebratory evening ended this way. Because of this experience, we have decided not to return. read more

Opened for Xmas. Wonderful thai food. We began with (6) Steamed Pot stickers. They were light, in a thin dough, with perfectly seasoned pork. They came in a delicately delicious coconut broth. Loved them!! For entrees we had Yellow Curry with Chicken, Crab fried Rice, and one of their Northern Thai entree, Hunglae curry. . Was recommended this place and ran into a few other familiar local Thai restaurants owners/workers that stop by to dine here too. Place isn't fancy but the food is great and the prices aren't too far of a stretch. It's clean and comfortable. We always order the Yum Woon Sen, Pad Thai with extra sauce, Tom Yum Gai Noodle Soup, and Papaya salad. Sometimes we'll switch it up and order fried tofu, crispy pork and rice, pad see ew, pad ke mao, or the sausage and rice. Nothing we've had has been a disappointment. We dined at Lanna as a family and there were very mixed reviews amongst us. Some really enjoyed their food while others did not. I had the red curry and really enjoyed it. It was flavorful and had great heat without being hot just for the sake of being hot. One family member felt their dish was too oily and another said their dish was ok but nothing special. My son and I were craving Thai and decided to give Lanna a try. From the time we walked in til the time we left we had a great experience. We were seated right away. Water was brought right away while we browsed the menu. The server came and got our drink order. We got the Thai Ice Tea with Boba. We had a late lunch so ordered light. We had steamed dumpling potstickers and #66 Pad Woon Sen. the food came out fast. Presentation looked like a picture. Veggies were fresh and perfectly steamed/cooked. The sauce on Woon sen was delicious and the dumplings were fantastic. This is truly a gem of a Thai restaurant. We stopped at Lanna Thai cuisine for dinner on May 14. We are visiting the area and didn't want a meal from a chain. This place did not disappoint. The menu has something for everyone, ranging from Thai salads to rice, noodle, and curry dishes. We ordered three entrees which came out quickly. The spice levels were spot on, ranging from mild to scorch. We kept it at a medium or a hot and it you left the heat on the tongue. But not so much that the meal wasn't enjoyable. I never like to give a non-chain restaurant a low star rating, I love smaller businesses and always look for the good. I had a mixed crowd, and I asked for everyone's input. Seating - not busy (early dinner) with tables & booths. Seated fairly quick. Dining area with a bar area, a little messy with walls/floorboards kind of grungy. Our first waitress (seemed new) seemed to be figuring out what do. The second waitress was not very personable. Overall, the service was not great. Super hot day, and during the whole meal from start to finish, we were offered one refill of water. They seemed overwhelmed, maybe phone orders? as the dining area was not crowded. Two of our plates had to be exchanged as they were dirty. It happens, so it's not a big deal. We ordered two appetizers - pretty basic flavor, not great, but not terrible. We ordered several entrées, they were the best part of our visit. The only issue was that we were given one wrong entrée, when we brought it to our Waitress attention, it became awkward. We had been waiting awhile, so instead of saying no problem, it became kind of a silence game. My wife was frustrated and said, "Just leave it and cancel the other one. The dish was fried chicken stripes, which were dry, which only added to the frustration. Heart-shaped rice was nice, and the main dishes were pretty decent with nice presentations. Food is always amazing. Have been coming here with my girlfriend for almost 4 years now. Started going while we were students at William & Mary and have loved it since. We got the steamed dumplings (no pictured), I got the pad ped spicy old man with chicken, she got the pad see ew with chicken. Both loved it with plenty of chicken in proportion to the noodles/rice/veggies, and full of amazing flavor. Lanna Thai never disappoints and this time was no different. Their spice levels are solid and the 4/5 spicy was the perfect level for me (I like it hot). I also like that they serve the rice in a heart shape. The restaurant is a bit on the small size, but we only had to wait about 10 mins on a busy Saturday night. Would recommend to anyone who likes Thai food, or anyone in general. Thai food is one my favorite cuisines and when visiting a different city, I usually find a Thai restaurant to visit and this visit to Williamsburg was no different. We found Lanna on Yelp and it was the only Thai place that had outdoor seating. The food was delicious--we ordered the fresh rolls with extra peanut sauce, fried calamari, Tom yum with shrimp, papaya salad and Ka prao with seafood medley. We also got mango sticky rice for dessert. The fresh rolls were so good we ordered two orders to go. The fried calamari was fresh, crispy and had a tasty batter. The Thai hot isn't as hot as I've had it before but they provide additional spicy seasoning on the side, if requested. It gets four stars instead of five because food was spaced out and in a sequence that we didn't quite understand. Overall, friendly service, clean restaurant and spacious seating. read more

I have enjoyed getting takeout from this place since we moved here (my dad is active duty military). But after tonight, unfortunately we will not be ordering from here anymore. My dad has been sick with Covid for the past week. He finally started to get his sense of taste back and decided he wanted the yellow curry from here because it always makes him feel better, and has been a wonderful comfort food. We picked up the food and brought it home. When we got home, we realized 2 out of 4 of our orders were messed up. I had ordered Pad See Ew, but received Drunken Noodles. My dad ordered the yellow curry with beef. They gave him yellow curry with chicken instead, and no white rice. I was happy to eat the drunken noodles, but my dad didn't have his rice, which is basically half his meal (since he ordered the yellow curry). We called the restaurant and explained the situation. Before we even proposed a solution, the employee on the phone interrupted and said "We don't do delivery or refunds. You're welcome to drive back here and pickup some rice." We spent around $100 on this meal. My dad has been sick as a dog and just wanted something he could finally taste. For the staff to not offer any consolation at all, aside from having us drive all the way across town to pickup the missing item, was unbelievable. Not to mention the employee gave no reconciliation for my order being entirely wrong. If I could give this establishment zero stars, I would. It was a not so cold and stormy night when 4 weary travelers (who'd been at Christmas Town all day) accompanied by there minions (ranging in age from 14 to 2) were in search of sustenance (and a wait time of less then an hour) that they stumbled upon this magical place. The staff were wonderful and the food was spectacular. I suggest looking on the Northern Thai section of the menu. The curry bowl I got off of it is now my favorite Thai dish. It was yummy. Loved this place. We ordered the Massaman Curry dish with rice and the chicken pad Thai. I loved the Massaman curry, it was delicious and creamy. Just the right amount of spicy. The brown rice was something we weren't used to. The location is small but very nice - they had real roses on each of the tables. The waitress was very attentive and friendly. Pricing was good too, not overpriced. They have good beer and wine options! Negative here is there's no kids menu and they cook in fish oil, around nuts and other fish/shellfish. Nice spot to enjoy very good Thai in Williamsburg. We were seated immediately on a fairly crowded dining room. We started with the Spring Rolls, very good indeed, but they could have offered a bit more sauce. Flavors are authentic, I enjoyed the Pad Prick Khing - I like it fairly hot and went with 3 out of 5 and the chef set me on fire. Don't think I could have handled 4 or 5. She had the Pad Thai with shrimp, mild, and it was very tasty. Probably would have gone 5 stars, but the service was VERY slow. Only 2 servers for the entire dining room and one spent most of the evening on the phone with take out orders. Took a trip to Williamsburg to return some things and was looking for a place nearby to grab lunch. Not sure what I expected the food scene to be like in Williamsburg but this place exceeded those expectations. When we pulled up the first thing we noticed was the sizable outdoor patio. In the times we're in, it's nice to sit at an actual patio instead of a converted sidewalk. It wasn't that busy when we went but another couple came shortly after we sat down and there was more than enough space to social distance. After we ordered they brought out these complimentary (rice based?) crackers with a duck sauce. These were great to snack on before the meal and didn't fill us up at all. First time I've gotten a complimentary pre-meal snack at a Thai place and definitely something I could get used to. We ended up ordering appetizers because that's always a must. The spring rolls were a given and the crispy wontons were added because we didn't want to just get two orders of spring rolls. Personally, I need spring rolls with my meal whether it be Chinese, Thai, or Viatnamese. They can be particular to whatever cuisine I'm going for but they have to be good. Lanna Thai Cuisine passed that first test with flying colors. The sauce was duck sauce with that house secret ingredient tweak, very tasty. The crispy wontons were good too, however a bit hard to eat. They were basically friend dough with a pocket of beef in the center, which made it really easy to eat the all of the meat in one go. The dipping sauce for the wontons was similar to a dumpling sauce and again very tasty. That being said I'd just place two orders of the spring rolls or mix and match with dumplings next time. For our entrees we ordered the satay chicken and the panang curry. If you're going with a picky eater maybe order the chicken. It's basically just grilled chicken on a skewer with dipping sauces on the side and white rice. You really can't go wrong. However, the real star of the show was the panang curry. I usually just order red curry but I decided to get something adjacent. The curry was that sweet/spicy combo I love and just generally delicious. I ordered mine with the beef but you can also do chicken, pork, vegetarian, or upgrade it to seafood (mussels, shrimp, etc). read more
