A technician came out, pulled the red handle back, re-engaged the track, and--miraculously--the garage door was fixed. Total repair time: approximately two fucking seconds. So I asked, "What do I owe you?" He said $69 for the safety check. I explained that I didn't want a safety check. The garage door unit is only two years old. I just wanted the damn thing put back on the track. At this point, apparently, we entered the "let me call my manager" phase of the experience. I suddenly felt like I was buying a used car. He gets off the phone and tells me, "It'll be $100." Naturally, I asked how we went from $69 to $100. And here comes the math salad. Apparently, they "waived" a $59 service fee just for showing up. Oh. How generous. "So how did we get to $100?" "Well, the service fee is actually $189." Ahhh. Of course. So, if I'm following this correctly, the price to simply exist within proximity to my garage is $189, but because I'm such a valued customer, you're only charging me $100 for the privilege of having someone pull a red handle for approximately two seconds. IN WHAT FUCKING UNIVERSE IS TWO SECONDS OF WORK WORTH $100? The entire garage door opener only cost $389 NEW. I guess I'm supposed to be grateful that I wasn't charged the full $189 for the privilege of watching someone reconnect something that I had already disconnected quite by accident. This wasn't a repair. This was a $100 garage-door-themed financial transaction.
