Wow. That's it. Wow. Here's the rest of the story We have 20 year Wayne Dalton garage doors that came with our house. In years past we've called another garage door company when the "Boom" happened. Not familiar with the "Boom". The "Boom" is when the cable snaps from spring While the "Boom" didn't happen last Saturday night the "boom" did meaning that one spring snapped instead of both cables. I called the company we've been calling and now they don't replace just the spring but have to replace the whole system. Needless to say I didn't know if I was getting a good deal or was i getting ripped off Enter A1. I booked online and explained everything. I received an email and text message about my technician Cody. Not only did it have a clear picture of him but also included a little bit of him and his family. By the way Cody loves to fish and NY Giants. Cody was so polite and up front. I provided the quote from the other and A1 matched the price for the repair but couldn't match the replacement panels of the door. So yeah, this door has some dents and doinks in the panels from the kids. So while I didn't go with A1 for the repair and replacement, their honesty, integrity, and professionalism is worthy of 5-Star. Special shoutout to Cody. My man. I'm not a fisherman but if you want to watch a NY Giants game with me, drinks are on me. read more

The same nice guy M.O. as most of these negative reviews. We had a squeaky and struggling garage door issue. The tech was a pleasant guy and nice enough. He started by reviewing some "garage maintenance and repair theory" before he even looked at the door. (That's sets the buyers expectation of what's to come.) He gave me a "deal" on "inspecting" the second door so I agreed to pay $60 before any work was done. He replaced 8 rollers on the main door but advised that I might want to consider a new spring and a cable. The spring was $1,000 but he offered an instant discount down to $700. A huge red flag. The cable, which is actually a belt, was an additional $200-$300. Plus they charge you for additional random parts. And let's not forget the visit fee. I called a local tech for a further evaluation. He looked at the work that the A1 tech performed and pionted out that he didn't notice, or bother with, all the hinges that support the rollers. They were all loose and one of the main reasons for the noisy door. The local tech also quoted me almost half the price for the same new spring which I didn't need to begin with. He tightened all hinges and lubed both doors and they are now quiet and run smoothly. He charged me $79. We paid $350 for a visit, some parts, and rollers that we didn't need. I'm glad we stopped there. The moral of the story, don't get lured down the rabbit hole by a coupon. Shop, ask questions, and go with your gut. Avoid the big box guys whenever you can. Had some garage door work done. First, the tech was super friendly. The low rating is for the up charge of the parts. I looked up the opener parts etc, they charge 4x what the cost of the garage opener units actually are. I unfortunately was too late before my partner agreed to have them start the work. That's on uS But I won't be using or recommending them again because of what they charge. So unfortunate, they price gouge you but this seems to be a thing now in the treasure valley. Apparently, I have to give at least one star to submit a review. I'd have given zero if allowed. The business model for this company is to send a skilled con artist, posing as a very knowledgeable, personable technician, to point out all that is wrong with your system, and inform you that it is indeed rocket science to correct your problem with a broken spring, hence the outrageous cost. Cody, while friendly and professional in appearance, stuck to the company script. For an hour and a half, we did the dance. He gave me an insanely high quote and attempted to upsell to "lifetime" springs, which, if they failed, would be replaced at "only" the cost of labor. I went inside multiple times to confer with my, much more prudent, wife. Each time I returned, Cody patiently sweetened the pot for me and the price got better. Clearly, they didn't want to leave without doing the job, as I may discover just how much it should actually cost. We played the "let me get the manager on the phone and see what he can do" game. Eventually, the price was reduced by half. Still, twice what we paid Garage Door Store Boise to do a very routine fix in a professional, expeditious manner. No BS 29 point "inspection" to indicate that every possible component on my 6 year old door required attention. It is obvious that their business model works, propelling their success into the stratosphere, leaving hundreds of fleeced innocents in their wake. RUN! RUN AWAY! We called them out to get a basic tune up. I will grant them that the price was great and they were very responsive. The problem began with the scare tactics and high pressure sales pitch for a new door, spring, and opener before the service even began. We didn't give in, despite a call from the manager offering an additional reduction from the "big discount" they were saying they offered, provided we sign up now. A little price checking after they left showed that their most steeply discounted rate was still double what is the normal rate for a lower pressure provider. They reluctantly proceeded with just the tune up, which was admittedly VERY competitively priced. The problem is that whatever they did failed to make the door quieter or smoother. In fact, we immediately started having trouble with the door closing part way, then reopening. We called in another vendor who charged more for the initial service call but fixed the closing problem, tightened and lubricated the belt and adjusted the travel, making the door whisper quiet and smooth. No mention was made of what A1 said were severe hazards that would cause problems soon if we didn't take immediate action. I would much rather pay a fair price to a responsible provider than be lured in by the scare tactics and pressure of a less reputable company like this one. I would much rather read more

BEWARE: TLDR: Highly predatory company business model when it comes to repairs. Basically just inviting scammers into your house if you need a repair. Sends out techs that are better trained in sales than repairs and they are happy to feed customers with false information and straight lies. I'm sure this is standard, but felt like his eyes lit up when I said "first time home buyer". Guy that worked with us had to be babysat after he misled me on the work he was going to do. Said he'd adjust the spring and instead "checked for safety" and overtightened a couple of screws and kept placing A1 stickers on everything in my garage. He "called his manager" several times before realizing I wasn't buying into the BS he was serving to "get me a deal" or something like that. No one was impressed and by the time he was going to do the work I asked him for, I already had asked him to leave. I googled things while he stood next to me and apparently didn't realize I could do price comparisons that showed me 1/2 to 1/4 the cost of parts (tbf maybe labor was included). I had someone from Haney Garage Door Service come by the next day. Adjusted the spring (didn't need a new one unlike what A1 told me) and definitely didn't need an entirely new door. read more

Four years ago I had A1 Garage doors put in a brand new insulated garage door, their recommended opener, & an exterior door controller. This was to replace the door that had been in place since I built the house in 1998, & which had never worked correctly. It had been squealing like someone killing pig for a few years, & one day just quit. I saw A1's commercials on TV. They were running a service special, so I called them. Unsurprisingly, the door had to be replaced. One month after the new door installation, the wall controller failed. A1 came out & replaced that without charge. 13 months later the door quit working. I called them to come fix it, & the tech told me the spring had broken. I figured it would be under warranty. No it wasn't. I got the whole speil about how there were three levels of springs: 1. the new construction variety that builders put in when they build new homes = 12 month warranty; 2: the next level up from the cheapies that had a 5 year warranty; 3: the 20 year warranty door. After I chided them for not giving me the good spring to begin with, I had them install the 20-year spring. When you go to an owner built home to replace a door that's been in 20 years, you have to figure that person is going to be there a while longer. WHY would you put in a spring that is so cheap, it fails within 1 1/2 years? Bottom line was the new spring was $1200 & change but I also needed a $150 dollar metal bushing to replace the cheap nylon/plastic one on the original spring. Ok, so new replacement spring for almost new door plus bushing, 1300 &change. The installer informed me that the garage door I had paid $2600 for just a little over a year previously, was now $6000. I guess that was to make me feel better about the spring. Honestly, the technician was very nice, & knowledgable. My objection was to the company policy. The good spring should have come with the door, & if there were options like that, they should have informed me. I would never have selected the cheaper route out here on the ranch. Last Wednesday, June 11 2025 my house was struck by lightning. A lot of random thing were affected, & one was the garage door wouldn't open. I had power to the garage & the wall control, unlike in my shop which took the hit. The garage door was in the house, not the shop, & most everything reset, including the pump & HVAC unit. Not the garage door. The garage ceiling lights & outlets work fine. I had to call A1. I am 75, & can't lift a garage door by hand, so I needed them to come out. They came out Friday, & charged me $125 for the service call on a door under an 8 year warranty. After checking it over, the tech concluded the motor was shot. He suggested I call the manufacturer to see if they would warranty it & send me the parts to fix it. WHOA, WHAT? So, far anything about the garage door that A1 installed is not covered under the 8 year warranty they were so proud of telling me about. And the tech didn't come prepared to fix it, even though I told them what had happened. I have to wait until Tuesday to see what they decide about what is warrantied. Nothing, it seems, not even their service call to do nothing. I spent 35 years in the contruction business. I know what a warranty is supposed to mean. My son owns a Core Elite disaster repair company that's top 10 in the US. This is NOT how you treat a customer, especially a senior who is unable to lift a door manually. Right now, it sounds as though I am going to have to replace the motor it at my cost. I literally paid $125 for them to drive out here and do nothing. The technician was/is a great guy, friendly, knowledgable, but powerless to make any commitment or fix anything. Basically, he's a sales person with some repair skill. The poor customer service is an A1 company policy that has nothing to do with their techs. For all their advertisements, & promises of quality & service, none of that seems to be true if there's a problem with a cost involved. The tech said that the garage door I got would be 10K now. So I'm pretty sure something is pretty fishy about how fast the prices have escalated. The door isn't the problem, the company policy seems to be the issue. I'd recommend finding a company with a better & more candid customer treatment plan. I'd really like to know what about the garage door is warrantied for 8 years. BEWARE!! I haven't been having any difficulty with my garage or garage opener, but I decided to get a new Wi-Fi opener with myQ. They quoted a price of over $2000 for the garage door motor and Installation. I felt that was a high price but since they were here, I would just have it done . After installing the new opener they told me I needed new springs and new wheels for the garage door. Then the price went over $3500. The service man stated he weighed the door and it should only weigh three or 4 pounds and mine was much heavier than that. He said if I did not get the new springs and wheels the door would fall down any day and destroy my new car. Obviously, he was using scare tactics to upsell product. This door and motor has been fine and has given me no problems over the years and I do know springs break on a garage but rarely fall and destroy your car. My annual inspections have been fine. I told the service man that I wanted my original garage door opener motor put back up. He charged me $273 and some change to put my garage door opener back up. I contacted a different locally owned company here in Nampa and had new motor, springs, and wheels put on for only $1500. read more

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly part of our encounter with A1 Garage Door Service was as follows. Our initial contact in July 2025 with the office staff at A1 Garage Door Service was pleasant and the technician showed up on time. That was the good part of our dealings with A1 Garage Door Service. The remainder of the service call ranged from bad to ugly. I explained to the technician that the inside wall control unit at the rear of the garage wasn't working as designed and it would not close the door when we re entered our home. The technician asked several questions about the age of the motor and he suggested that he could fix the door by replacing my Liftmaster door opener unit by installing a new motor which would cost about $1400.00. I told him we had just had a tune up on our garage door opener and he again told me the opener should be replaced and he could get it operating properly for $ 1400.00. I asked him about looking at the wall control unit since that was the part of the system that didn't seem to be working. After more discussion about his diagnosis of replacing the Liftmaster motor, he finally agreed to look at the wall control unit . After examining the wall control unit, the A1 technician agreed that it had a short in it and should be replaced. He replaced the wall control unit and charged me $117.72 for the Wall control unit replacement part; which incidentally was triple the listed price on Amazon.com. He also charged me another $ 59.95 as a tune up fee even though I'd had a tune up by another garage door repair company with the last 90 days and there was already a serious upcharge for the wall control; unit. I wrote to the company explaining the issues and asking for an adjustment on the approximate $186.00 charge. My letter of complaint was ignored. I'm not sure if the A1 Garage Door Service technician was incompetent or if there was some other issue involved but I can say that we will never ever call A1 Garage Door Service again. Over $2,100! Called one of there competitors had them quote about a third of what she paid for the exact same job, replacing all the same components. The spring alone was over $1,000. There competitor was less than $500 with installation. They changed The cables and bearings. Convinced her that she needed a new bracket on her garage door where the existing garage door opener was mounted. $138.00 She didn't even know they replaced the cables $197.00 she found out going over the receipts that they emailed to her. Needed the main door fixed for what appeared to be a broken belt. Regretfully, It seems I now share the same story as many of the one star reviews. Even if we are to assume all the repairs were needed, it was not until I saw the the after visit invoice(via email) that I saw the detail; $60 for travel expenses, $1500 & $1200 for the openers, where Amazon(and everybody else) reflected under$600 & $400 respectively, and two sets of (12ea) rollers at $474 per set, again Amazon and everybody else has them for under $60. $340 to set-up door remotes and keypad, and align and calibrate the sensors. The invoice also had a lengthily list of bearing, cables, tubs and plates. Total invoice $6600, without the spring system replacement on the second door, and this was just a repair, no new doors. I am the one who said yes, but when the proposal is being made on the tablet while you are standing in the garage, it lacks any detail. As mentioned in some of the other reviews, you are presented with three numbers. Good, Better, Best. In fairness to A1, I did not get other quotes, so possibly some of these charges and business practices are within industry standards. We left one door with recommended spring replacement for another day. I will most certainty get competitive quotes. I urge anybody else to do the same, Lastly, had I known about $60 "travel expenses" I would not have tipped the technician $50. read more

I signed up not knowing if we would choose A1. We got two other bids and they were both about $364, yes, that's OVER $836 LESS for the exact same opener! I then called to cancel the monthly $12.95 and was told it was canceled. Got charged anyway. That was two months ago and they continue to charge me. Last time I called I was told that "I'll take your card number out of the system." Got charged again anyway. Now on the phone again and was just told (again) it would be canceled. This is a nation wide company with an office here locally. So they will tell you they are local. The tech that worked on my garage was a great, friendly guy. Unfortunately the technicians are trained (In Arizona) to up sale you things at RIDICULOUSLY high prices. Spring $700...bearings $80.00 each.... Labor $165.00 , and if that wasn't enough.. they insist that you sign up for yearly membership ($155.00) by offering you a bearing or two (that cost $23.99 for 4 ) which renews every year automatically. I tried to cancel my membership two days after signing up and got a phone call from office out of state. That didn't go well.... The techs working for this company are all good people. It's the business and the tactics they use to scam people that's horrible I'm still waiting to get confirmation my membership was canceled. I learned my lesson the hard way . Following our terrible experience last summer of being scammed by tech Seth Bennett, we promptly cancelled our "worry free membership." What are you going to do when your garage door parts are laying all over the floor? Some of the parts may still be good but they recommend replacement any way. The parts are extremely over priced! I pulled up the website of the company that installed one of my doors while the tech was here and a coupon for spring replacement appeared. It was 1/3 of the 5 year A1 cost and a 10 year warranty. The main garage door didn't work when the tech left. I had to pull it up to get it connected to the opener chain clip. How do you test your work without a working door??? My mom built a new house and moved into it in 2018. In 2023 she started having garage door issues, so Cody came out and over $5000 later she had all new reenforced garage doors with what she was told was a "lifetime warranty." I was actually there and grilled Cody myself and he made it seem like everything was worry free and my mom would be in good hands. She is a very independent retired special ed teacher, but she IS on a fixed income. Even still, she paid extra extra for the "worry free club." Worry free my arse! She started having issues this year and called. Even with the "worry free" club, they said it would be $69 to come out, but if she waited for her "annual tuneup," someone would be calling her in September to schedule. She never received a call, so she called, only to be told her "membership" had expired. First of all, over $5000 to put some extra metal in the door is bad enough...to not stand behind your workmanship is a completely different thing. I called this company to have my garage door looked it. They were quick to respond, even came out on a Sunday. Ben was the employee that came out. He looked at a few things and told my husband what needed to be done, wrote it out on his iPad and had him sign. Then he told him the cost of the service. my husband told me and I immediately said to get a second opinion. Ben told us we already signed the work order and had to pay. no work was started. Being a Sunday there was no one in the office, or that was Ben said. ben approached up with another $1200 for parts on top of the $1500 he already charged. when we refused he dropped the parts cost. when he finished he explained what he had done. before he left I wanted to make sure my remote worked, it did not. Ben wanted me to climb up the ladder to see where I could fix the remote if needed. that was his job, not mine. 2 days later I called A-1 since my garage did not open. a tech was to come that afternoon, he did not. next day Ben showed up again. his first response was tell me to come out in the garage and he will "educate" on how to open a garage. I was very pleased with the quality of service and knowledge of the service techs, however I felt a certain amount of pressure to have things done that they pointed out needed done, but did not feel like I wanted to have done now. I felt it was a bit of a hard sell, but when I made my decision they respected it. They gave me a great deal on servicing all 4 of our garage doors, but the cost of a spring replacement on one door was much higher than expected, but I had it done anyway. I was told they didn't work on Wayne Dalton garage doors,, but they could change it out to a new system.( External Springs) The technician went to his truck to give me a quote. When he came back I was SHOCKED $1600.00. I declined the bid and he said let me call my manager. After a wait the price came down to $900.00. I had my wife call overhead door of Idaho. The lady on the phone gave her a price of $450.00 for the conversion and outside Springs. So be careful when doing business with A 1. I paid $1753.00 for a garage door spring, which I think was exorbitant and he failed to tell me that he was going to charge additionally for installation ,adjustments, etc. Also billed me $100 for bolts and screws... He was convinced to replace the entire system and not only that, replace the second garage door that was working just fine. So I called A1 garage to get the rubber seal on the bottom of the door replacement. The technician came out, never looked at the rubber seal and talked me into no new coils-1400 (+). Next I called again explaining you never even looked at what was to be replaced. A technician again came out and quoted me 425.00 for what A1 commercials are stating they'll do for 20(+) dollars. When the serviceman looked at the door he said that the Special $129.99 advertised is not available on my garage type and he promptly tried to sell other services. This is called "Bait & Switch" and is illegal. The service man and the customer service rep from A1 said that there had been other complaints and yet no disclosure in the ad or at the time of appointment. Used their $29.95 "Tune-up Special" mail coupon. The service tech came out and was very polite. However, he attempted to up-sale EVERYTHING. He gave me this "puppy dog" face saying, "Well, if you don't replace this or that, it could break on you and maybe damage your car". New spring, new rollers, new motor, new frame - you name it - he wanted to replace it. He replaced the spring, center bearing, and rollers and charged me $1,577.70 (plus tax). I am embarrassed to have paid this. Worst thing is - he didn't even fix the main problem (which is the wall-mounted opener). I am extremely disappointed in A1 Garage Door. One of my neighbors crashed into my garage door and my HOA gave me 10 days to replace it. I hired A1 to replace the door and was promised a February 18 install completion date. The door arrived damaged and A1 began a dispute with the freight company and the door manufacturer as to who was going to pay for the door (that I had already paid for). I made numerous calls trying to comply with my HOA demands. At one point in an attempt to calm my down Alisha offered too send me a check for $200 to cover my additional travel cost and frustrations. My door was finally installed April 18 and the $200 check is yet to arrive. I would never recommend them to anyone. read more

Immediately upon coming it felt as though the salesman started to set me up for a big quote, I asked for him to simply give me a quote and then we'd go from there but he insisted about talking about how my torsion springs were old and he had to do a 28pt inspection due to liability issues and then we argued a bit over whether or not I'd even need the old springs should I replace the overhead garage door opener... honestly, I don't need any of this. I just want someone to come in, listen to what I want done, give me a quote and I'll decide whether or not I want to buy your time. I don't want to hear about the process or your liability or any of that. I had to ask him to leave because I didn't want to stand in the garage debating with him before we even knew what the price was going to be. Could have been good, could have been bad... but having been around long enough I have a very good sense when someone is positioning to inflate a quote and that's what this seemed like to me. I did no business with this company because I didn't want to waste my time. Starting out with a debate is not for me. I wouldn't recommend this company. Two stars because there may actually be people who need a complete hardware replacement instead of just a new spring. We had a broken spring. Seth came out and zipped through a quick scan of the door, immediately noting the age of the door, and the condition of the door and rollers. Quickly pushing into a full hardware replacement, and a quote for us. He tried the quick close on my wife, "I have everything I need, and can get it done in an hour, just give me the OK." Well, she declined, and he sent the $1800 quote. There were 12 lines on the quote including a Tune-up and Lube Service - $72.02 and a supply fee to cover things like screws, nuts, and bolts - $81.83. Seriously, $81 for screws, nuts, and bolts?The topper? Seth included a 16ft torque tube replacement for our 9ft garage door. If he is not able to tell the difference between 9ft and 16ft, how much effort is he putting into the quote? We went with a competitor. Didn't show up when he said he would. Said he'd arrive between 1pm and 6pm, but he showed up at 11am, so we weren't ready. My wife had to get out of the shower to open the door for him. He checked why my garage door wasn't opening and told me it was the motor since it was 20+ years old. That was good to know, since it wasn't the spring or rails. Then he tried to sell me a replacement motor for $750, like I wasn't going to google how much a motor costs. He kept telling me about a bunch of discounts that would make me only have to pay for the motor and not labor so it would just be $750 and not $950. When I said I'd have to talk to my wife about it before dropping almost $1000, he got more and more pushy, saying if I didn't agree to him doing the work right then and there, it would be even more expensive. Almost like he knew that if I google how much a motor costs or talked to anyone, I'd realize he was ripping me off. I had to tell him I wasn't having him do the work that day 6 times before he got the message. He kept offering different ways of spreading the cost over a year, and I kept saying "it's still very expensive, no matter how long you spread it out for, and I need to talk about it with my wife". Literally 6 times before he stopped being pushy. Then he put a huge sticker on my door and on my old motor that says the warranty is void if I remove or cover the sticker. What warranty? He didn't work on my door or motor, just looked at it to tell me what was wrong. The good news is that despite that, he technically did do what I wanted and told me what the problem was. I went to home depot and bought a motor for $150 and installed it myself. Now it works perfectly. read more
