Our appointment was at 2:00 they put us in a room and we sat there waiting for 45 minutes, no one let us know anything about why it took so long, and they finally came into the room, then as they were going over what our cat needed I told them ''please let me know the cost before you do anything and we have flea meds at home'', well I went to the bathroom and the veterinarian finally came to the room for 3 minutes felt the cats neck and stomach, they put our cat in our crate and we went to pay , the bill was $194.00 for 3 minutes of observation when we left my girlfriend said we also got a small tube of flea med when I tried to return the flea med they said '' we can't take it back since you left the building with it'' . I'm sorry to say but I don't recommend this vet it appears to be poorly run, they never discussed with us what they were going to do or the cost/meds, I won't be going back there. read more

We have lived in Onslow County for several years and have utilized other veterinarians in our area with our previous pets; with some positive and negative experiences.  Recently, we added a miniature dachshund to our family which brought us to Ideal Pet Care.  Dr. Brinson has recently taken ownership of this facility, she is by far one of the most caring veterinarian I have ever met...as first time dachshund parents she took the time to explain dieting, potential medical issues and answered our many questions. Her staff is proficient, professional and very friendly.  The facility itself is very clean, newly renovated and is extremely pet friendly.  One of my favorite things during this visit was that we were not treated as dollar signs and numbers but a family with a new fur baby. read more

This review is hard to write because I really did like taking my pets here , but it always was something with them never being able to fit you in or something, I brought my 7 month old cat sweet boy toast to then from the day we rescued him , we set up an appointment to have him chipped and fixed , that was February 16 I brought him home that Friday and he just didn't seem ok . We gave him a few days seeing he just had surgery and was coming off the medication, he did not improve I called them twice later in the week and sent the photos and they just brushed us off and set up a drop off appointment for today February 26 . My sweet boy passed Saturday morning at 10 am with is family, they failed my cat they did nothing to try and save him or couldn't care less to look at him . We've been bringing our animals here since about 2004 (minus three years we moved out of state) and have never had a bad experience. Appointments are pretty easy to get (usually within a week) but you can get in sooner if it's something more critical. The vet techs are always nice and you can tell they really like the animals. The vets themselves (I believe there are two) are also nice and seem to really care about what's going on with your pet. They have a big waiting room but not a lot of seating, so you may end up having to sit with your dog next to a cat in a crate (unless you want to stand or walk around). It's never been a big deal (i.e. it's never been so busy there was nowhere for me to sit) but I'm just letting you know. They also offer boarding for your animals, though we've never had to use it. There is a smallish store attached with everything from toys and treats to food and leashes. Prices can be all over the place--some things are WAY more expensive than you'd find elsewhere, but then I've also found some things are cheaper...so YMMV. Overall, I'm really happy this place is five minutes from my house and I'd definitely recommend them. P.S. If you're on AT&T, forget about getting a signal here. read more

This vet clinic (now reopened after the Hurricane) has been amazing for my two dogs! When my older dog was alive, Dr. Wright gave us excellent care, medication, and concern. The staff knew us (and my beloved beagle) by name. During their closure for the storm, the staff members FILLED MY EMERGENCY PRESCRIPTIONS with no way to take payment. They remembered my pet's medicines and came in to a flooded office to help us. They did it on faith and for the community. Yes, they are extremely busy and you will wait on hold when you call. But we travel 45 minutes just to take our beagle for everything. When we had a major injury, they helped refer us to NC State and helped follow up. The staff is kind to the animals and I never had any issue with either of my two furry family members. I am so glad they were able to reopen! read more

My dog got very sick on a weekend and this was the first time I've ever had an incident like this. I was at Ideal first thing Monday Dec 4th when they opened the doors. Immediately as I walked in the woman looked annoyed. She didn't greet me, ask about my dog, or show any concern. The sense I got was why are you bothering me right now. After the weekend I had just had with Salem trying to make it to Monday this was to say the least extremely disappointing. I've been taking my dog there for 3 years, since the day I brought her home. They told me that the doctor wasn't there yet. I asked if I could wait to see him because it was an emergency that I've been dealing with this unknown condition all weekend and I was desperate. They unbelievably told me no they were too busy. There wasn't a single patient there. I'm sure they had a busy day planned and I explained I wouldn't mind waiting but the expression on the woman's face let me know the moment I walked in the door she didn't have time for me today. She said they'd call me later that day and let me know when they could get me an appointment. Never even received that call by the way. Went to another clinic which ironically had people waiting in the lobby, was extremely busy, and they went out of their way to fit me in despite their appointments. My advice would be to care more and put yourself in your paying customers shoes. I take leaving a negative review very seriously but this incident was too much to tolerate. Maybe that one employee wasn't representation of the whole business but the service and care I received that day was worthy of a 1 Star review. read more

I took my dog cowboy in for the rest of his puppy shots and his heart worm test and they were horrible. First I had an appointment for 12:00 on a Friday. They made us wait in the lobby with 6 or 7 other animals walking in and out until 1:30. I was also worried he might've had an ear infection so she came in gave us the swabs to check his ears. When she came back she literally said "I'm less worried about his ears and more worried about his behavior" (at this point he was barking and growling at anyone who walked in.) I said "don't worry he won't bite" and she said "if he wasn't on a leash he would definitely bite us". He's never bitten a single person or dog she had no basis to state that, especially since this was the first time he even showed fear aggression at the vet. She then said I needed to have him trained and then criticized the training program I bought online so I could train him. I don't get offended easily but i would've been barking and growling too if I wasn't so worried about my dog. We ended up leaving without them ever touching him and paid 180 for a sedative that they wanted to use next time and his heart worm meds for one month. I went to bay shore animal hospital today and they were AMAZING. The vet was not scared of my dog at all when he was barking walked right up to him let him sniff him and he calmed down within 2 seconds he actually talked to me about him as well about his new diet (which the other vet just shrugged off) and even made recommendations to what I could add to make sure he's as healthy as possible. They were able to finish his shots and do his heart worm test where they found he got a tick borne disease (not a serious one but they were able to find it unlike the last vet). If you have a pup that's scared of the vet DO NOT take them to ideal pet care. Their lack of experience with pets with anxiety shows and they will blame you. I don't even write reviews and they have the pleasure of being my first bad one. Enjoy the $180 you will never be seeing cowboy again. Definitely go to Bayshore if you want your dog to enjoy his vet experience with lots of treats and pets and the reassurance it's not your fault if they're afraid of the vet. read more

I absolutely loved this vet office! From the time we walked in until we left was just amazing! Their prices are the best around literally!! We have a 5 year old German Shepard mix and she does not like being picked up and they accommodated Kimber and found treats that she would eat. Taylor was so good with Kimber and I loved that after she held her she would give her a treat so she knew she wasn't bad. They also clipped her nails and were so quick and accurate! They listened to my concerns and helped me to help Kimber! We are so happy to have found our family vet. Highly recommend!! read more

I have been going to this vet off and on through the years. We moved a few times so I switched but when we got back we started again.The doctor ,himself, is not as friendly as he could be. But he has had that practice a long time. So for him to have lasted that long......and still going strong. He comes in long enough to do the things he needs to do and leaves the rest to his assistants. I go to what has worked for us in the past. He is a good vet. read more

After a week of struggling to figure out what was wrong with my extremely sick dog (vomiting, not eating & rapidly dropping weight), and not getting answers from my regular vet and a second opinion, I read some great reviews on Dr. Wright at Ideal. I called his office this morning and explained my situation trying to get an appointment for today. They told me to come in ASAP, so I did. When I got there, there were no other patients and was told they normally don't take patients at the time I was there, which I thought was amazingly considerate that they would allow us to come in! They were awesome and we had the staff's full attention. They took tests right away and got xrays done. After looking at the xrays, Dr. Wright suggested an exploratory surgery to see if there was an obstruction in his intestines, since that's what it looked like. He was able to keep him there during the day and performed the surgery this evening. They had found an obstruction that caused a lot of damage and he took care of it right away! He called me right after the surgery to let me know how things went. If Dr. Wright was not able to get him into surgery today, he might not have made it. I am forever grateful for what they did for me and I look forward to them being my regular veterinary office from here on out. They really went above and beyond for me! As for now, I'm looking forward to my dog's speedy recovery and having him back to normal soon! EDIT TO ADD: Jango's first surgery ended up being only $700, which was great! He ended up having to go back a few days later though because he ripped his tissue under the stitches and lost a lot of blood (his own dumb fault for jumping on the bed while I wasn't looking). After a week in their care, he has now been home for a few days and is basically back to normal! He gets his stitches out on Saturday. For a week of hospitalization and going under anesthesia twice, our second bill only ran $1050!! I am astounded by their staff, they are seriously amazing and have done so much for us! They let me come in every day to hang out with Jango for as long as I wanted while he was hospitalized :) read more

Long story short, if you need more than annual shots/screenings, take your fur babies elsewhere. We were lied to about a surgical procedure that resulted in lost work (which would've been avoided otherwise) and we had to call to check on our dog. No attempt on there part to contact us at all from 800 am through 130pm. Don't waste your time here. read more

My dogs have been patients here for a few years. Unfortunately, this past year I have not been pleased with the service offered. I woke up one morning to one of my dog's barely being able to walk. Something was definitely wrong causing her equilibrium to be off. I called to make an appointment to bring her in that day. The receptionist said they were booked, and their next available appointment was in THREE WEEKS! I explained that my dog was sick, and couldn't wait that long to be treated. They did not care and were unwilling to try and make any accommodations. A couple months later, I walked in to get flea medication recommended by a friend. They would not sell the medicine without the dogs having an exam. At first this was fine with me, I have no problem following protocol. I moved forward with scheduling the exam, and the first available appointment was a MONTH out! Again, I can not let my dog's go that long without being treated. I did some research and called around to other vets in the area. Not one of them required an exam, and were happy to sell me the flea medication needed. I believe this clinic only cares about trying to up sell their clients, and could care less about actually treating animals. It's safe to say, I will never bring my pets here again. read more

We've only been going here for a few months, but we really love taking our animals here. Our dog needed cysts removed and she was taken great care of. She healed well from surgery, the price was affordable, and the staff have been helpful and polite. I've taken my kitten here as well, once for shots and once for sick call. Been coming here for 4 years with my dog. They "REFUSED" to sell me 1 dose of heartworm med to keep him on schedule because his yearly exam is not until the 13th. He has been on HW med consistently all his life ,,, from this vet ,,, and has a yearly exam and hw test at this vet. They said i have to wait till after his hw bloodtest at his annual appt on 13th. Really? Can't get 1 dose to keep him protected and on schedule? I really liked this place until now. Doesn't seem like they really care about the animals well being. read more

Had gone here several times before and had no issues. Called this morning to get my dog in for anxiety and she's has been licking her arm almost to the point of a sore and we wanted to make sure she didn't get a odd bite or a mite etc. The receptionist spent 10 minutes on the phone telling me i didn't have an account i'm describing the dog, telling her of my 3 last visits in details and spelling out my first and last name and dogs name repeatedly.. i walk all the way to the car for a receipt and then miraculously she finds it and then says .. you should take her to a walk in clinic we have nothing available for weeks.. RUDE AND CLUELESS .. told me to take her to a wall in clinic.. time for a new vet .. doctor is great but the ladies at the desk.. are the reason this is the worst place to go . read more

I have been taking my animals to Ideal Pet Care for the last 12 years. I have four dogs. I recently lost my youngest Yorkie to pancreatitis. Dr. Wright and his staff did everything in their power to save my dog. I was allowed to come and visit with her while she was hospitalized. I was informed of her treatment every step of the way. When we decided surgery might help, he stayed after hours to do it. He called me with the sad news and came in on his day off to speak with us and release her. When we decided to take her home, everyone was as sad as I was. My husband and I had decided to take her back and have her euthanized but she took that burden off of us and died in my arms. My other three dogs will never see another vet as long as this man is in business. Rude staff? I have NEVER seen it. Emergencies? Several times we have had to call in a panic. My parents have been bringing their dogs here for the last 17+ years. My mom's Australian Cattle dog was in the last moments of his life and I called them to see if they could assist in making him comfortable. The receptionist was RUDE! (I think her name was Kelly) and pretty much told me that b/c they do not take walk ins that I would have to find another vet or wait until the emergency vet clinic opened. After hanging up out of anger, I calmed down and called back to ask to speak with a person of authority or a Veterinarian, immediately I was able to bring my dog in. I hold Ideal Pet Care completely responsible for the team they hire. Their receptionist is the first person someone interacts with and I surly would not want that kind of person representing my business. For that incident and another one a couple weeks later, I will no longer do business with a company that is more concerned about the making money than caring for pets. read more
