This is a crooked company i went to them to get my liner replaced they first gave me an estimate of 3000.00 when i went to get the work done, they double in price they wanted 6000.oo dollars for the job. 5000 dollars was all labor. the cost of lining is 750.00 dollars they want 2000 dollars for the liner and additional 1000 for additional pats 3000 for the labor then they lied and told they don't make another pool place no problem, so it is being made. After paying for bi weekly service for my pool I noticed my pool was getting milkier and greener. I spoke with the technicians, and the answer was always we just added this or that. My pool for most of the summer was cloudy and unhealthy looking because I was foolish enough to continue with these guys. I finally let them go, after the summer. Just in time to start wrapping up the season. I wish I would have done it sooner. When I called they were unapologetic and seemed all to happy to lose me as a customer. Last year my husband and I called Ideal Pools to come and replace the sand in our filter. This was our first year owning a pool, and we were advised by family that it may be a good idea to change the sand so we'd know the age of the sand. We easily scheduled a service call, and Ideal Pools came out hours after the scheduled time. Our sand was replaced. Upon services being delivered, we tried to pay by check. The service man told my husband he "doesn't like dealing with money" and we'd get a bill in the mail. He also offered to dispose of the sand from the filter, which we appreciated until we learned his disposal of the sand meant dumping it in our garden. If only that was the worst of our problems with Ideal Pools. Once we had the sand replaced, I called Ideal Pools multiple times a day to pay this bill. I would get told I'd be transferred to the person to pay, only to get hung up on after extremely long hold times. As you can imagine, this would be extremely frustrating. We received a bill in the mail, because the service technician would not take our payment, and it was noted on the bill we would start being charged a late fee for failure to pay! I again called and called, and after hours of calling was finally able to speak to someone. When I was able to speak to the service manager, I explained how frustrating this process was. I was newly pregnant at the time and extremely sick dealing with this while my husband was at work. The service manager was extremely rude, and when asking me how the service was I told him it wasn't good and we'd use another company next time. This is when the service manager started to yell at me, and told me to "never come back" to HIS f***ing store with my "threats and lies" and to have a "nice f***ing life!" while hanging up on me. At this point, both my husband and I left reviews of Ideal Pools. I was messaged on Facebook by Laura. She asked me to reconsider and to try to use them again. She then read my husbands review on google, told me there were a lot of "misunderstanding" and that the service manager would not be apologizing for his behavior because it was my fault. She stated that he had taken some other bad phone calls and by stating we'd use another company I "broke" him. All summer we had some sand coming in from the filter. We just assumed that it was because the filter was old. While it was annoying, it was an extremely hot summer and we used the pool. Upon opening it this year we had another company to come out and do general maintenance to our pool. He noticed some of the sand as well, and took a look at our filter. I received these pictures while at work, of cracked parts that were caused by Ideal Pools. If this had been found while they were out, I'm sure they would have told us and fixed it to be able to charge us for a longer call and more work. This is a horrific thing to discover. Not only are the service technicians clearly inept, they will break your parts and leave you with an unusable pool while their service manager will yell and swear at you, while also deleting your reviews. Do not ever use for Pool service!! Mike, Service Manager is rude, and condescending. The actual guys who show up whenever the Service Manager feels like sending them, are pleasant. When requesting, not to deal with Mike the Service Manager, since I had a horrible experience with him last year, Ideal Pools refused to accommodate. After explaining my experience to various staff, They said I can only speak with Mike, the Service Manager to schedule. Total insensitivity and lack of Customer Service! I have other friends who use their service and have stated they do not care for the Service Manager as well, but deal with it because they need service and its the only pool business local. These guys were positively rude and completely talked down to me while i was asking questions about getting some service and repairs for my pool. I am funny this way, I try to use a business for things I cannot do myself, like figure out why my filter is broken and I am happy to pay for an expert. Avoid at all costs... this guy is pretty much a scumbag who has convinced himself that general principles of good business and customer service don't apply to him. Employees and ownership are often in error, yet manage to be condescending and rude to customers without hesitation. One illustrative story: a product on the shelf was incorrectly priced, when I got to the register I was told it was $20-$25 more than what was listed. When I mentioned this, the guy working the register flew into a legitimate tantrum, ranted about how it's going to come out of his pay and he can't deal with it, threw the item across the counter, and went to the next customer in line. When the owner heard the commotion, came out, and was clued in on the situation, he told me that kids do the price labeling and frequently make mistakes. I was accused of being greedy and told that "if $20 makes a difference to me, I'm in the wrong store." Needless to say, I haven't been back. NOTE: Apparently another reviewer thinks I tried to "rip them off" because I had the nerve to ask for confirmation when they attempted to charge me $20 more than the listed price of my item. I'm sure that if you went out to dinner somewhere and when you got the bill the food was much more expensive than was listed on the menu, you'd just smile and fork over the cash. Or maybe you're one of those people for whom, to quote the owner of this establishment, "$20 doesn't make a difference." In that case, enjoy. read more

I assure you, you don't want to work with Ideal Pool. I've shared below a snippet of my experience with them via an e-mail I sent to their listed president this morning: I left you a voice message this morning as well. You were supposed to send someone out yesterday to finish opening our pool - from a week+ prior (5/22). However, when I called in the afternoon to inquire as to time so I could have someone at the house, not only was I not given confirmation you were still coming, but I also never received a call back. I was not surprised, then, when no one ever showed up.... and no call was given to tell us that you weren't coming. Let me also explain how my husband called the Sunday after we were "opened" (i.e. left with a cover off and a green, filthy pool to look at) and you didn't bother to call us back or put us on the list for service. He then called again during the week and again, was told someone would call back. Lastly, he showed up there, spoke to someone who told him he should have called sooner (hilarious!), but was assured he was "on the list" for Saturday. I share this tale of laughter and joy to illustrate to you why we do not want you to even attempt to send someone to service our pool. I am amused as I write this because I am pretty sure you weren't going to anyway, but I am giving you the courtesy you did not provide to me by letting you know. While it gives me some measure of release to write this admittedly snarky e-mail, I feel much more relief in knowing we will never have to deal with your company again. p.s. My example of your service described above is not an outlier, our entire experience with you has been generally negative, but we were hoping it would improve. Shame on us. read more

The owner and crew sold me a 2013 variable speed pump for $1000 during a MA state energy incentive program which means they told $500 from me and $500 from the state of Massachusetts. The problem is the pump just quit after one season. The biggest problem is that they sold this pump to me in 2017. When I returned the pump to them they told me this pump is 4 years old, new to me but thank you for volunteering the info, and that I am lying about the purchase date. I was told I bought this pump in 2013 and I am trying to scam them. Problem is I bought my house in 2014 with the pool. Luckily they have found my receipt. They still did not do anything for me. I am now working with the state of MA and other pool professionals to dig deeper to see what all these complaint are all about and what kind of business this really is. Ideal also repaired the railings on my pool and toddler could have done a better job blindfolded. Horrible quality and a a real bunch of criminals!! After being a loyal patron for 12 years I obtained a bid from Ideal to redo my gunite pool that came in almost double that of other competitors one of whom got the contract. Still wanting use local business, I just came from a trip to Ideal to test pool water and buy chemicals. The owner confronted me in his usual low class way and ordered me to leave his store as he would not longer do business with me because I choose a pool contractor who came in $15 K lower than Ideal. I called three different companies (all highly rated) for estimates to replaster my pool and replace missing tiles. Bill, the owner of Idea Pools called back immediately and came and gave an estimate. He listened to what I wanted and was very helpful. Another company came and claimed I would have to use a much more expensive plaster and should upgrade my pool by changing the tiles to natural rock. The third company never came to give an estimate and did not return calls. I went with Ideal Pools and they started and finished the job when they said they would. Communication was excellent and the work was beyond my expectations. My pool is beautiful. People say it looks like a new pool. The price was very reasonable, far less than friends have paid. Pool Service-Worst company to have work on your pool! The service techs lie about doing services claiming they do things they don't do (as proven by security cameras) and bill you for it. They supposedly call before showing but never call and come when and if they choose sometimes different days altogether. I've reported them to the BBB. Go someplace else for service! We have used Ideal Pools over the last several years to install a new above ground as well as recently replace a liner. Their service has been checkered with good and not so good results. They get busy when called on service and that in and of itself can be spotty especially when it comes to "bed side manner". The install of the liner was an adventure and overall good but also sloppy in several areas. I was surprised as the foreman was on the job for the liner replacement. They also provided the delivery of the pool water (a side bar below) as it would take two truckloads to fill. After the liner was set to go, the pool reassembled the 1st truckload arrived only to be told they couldn't get the 2nd truckload in until tommorrow for conflicting schedules on their part. Unfortunately, 4ooo gallons didn't test the skimmer area. So we had to wait. The next day the 2nd truckload came in and sure enough there was a leak in the skimmer. Now interestingly enough we observed that they were having problems with the original skimmer but they seemed to have overcome it. In retrospect we believe they cracked the skimmer. When we put in an emergency call we were lucky as the above ground service people were yet to have left for another job and would be onsite in 1/2 hour. Phew. When theyt arrived we also noticed several support caps had not been fastened properly so along with replacing the skimmer with a new one (that they just so happened to have in their truck that was the needed hayward replacement) they torked down the oversights (sloppy original work). Needless to say they had taken the cracked skimmer with them and a $119.00 bill for the skimmer arrived a few days later. Not to happy about this but did they really crack it to begin with,,,, we think so but can't prove. Since we are on well water we can ill afford to fill the pool with loss of water but the loss of water was minimal. Since July '13 there has been enough water to keep it filled. These past few weeks we have dropped 1/2" to 1" and suspect there is a leak somewhere -vs- evaporation so we may be coming back to adjust this rating based on the outcome. sidebar: How much water does this pool take? Ans: approx 6000 gallons. How much does one truck hold? Ans: approx 4000 gallons. So what do you do with the other 2000 gallons on the 2nd load. Ans: You can have it if you like but you will need a lot of buckets. Seems to be a ripoff with the charges for the water don't you think. Ans: not really. You don't pay for the water but rather the truck and the driver. I can appreciate the earlier comments and ratings but am not quite ready to give them a one star. At this time, a 3 star rating is very generous. We will see where the leak detection, at no charge according to Kayla goes...... read more

I, the ever optimist, thought - oh, okay - let's just have em' come back and fix that. After 2 visits (one we did not authorized) and $1,700.00 later; and we still can't use the pool - it looks worse than when we started 2 weeks ago - I am finally cutting my losses. I really wish I never called them to start with. We were willing to pay for excellent pool service and results. Too many problems with their company to list. This company is the worst of the worst. We have filed a formal complaint with the Attorney General's Office, and if, although highly doubtful that Ideal (a misnomer) Pool does step up and make good and deliver on what they sold us, I will update this post. If you're looking for a hefty dose of rudeness and sarcasm, look no further. Working with one of the managers, Seth, is like working with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Sometimes he can be helpful and polite. Other times, he seems to be in attack mode; It's difficult to get him to answer questions. Instead of answering them, he scrutinizes each word you say, tearing them apart as a way to make you seem like a fool. Why not just answer the questions? Then when you leave in frustration, he shouts in a saccharin sweet voice: 'Have a great day! God bless you!' when you know he's really saying 'F*** you!!'. Meanwhile, all of this is going on while two other associates are standing right by him. Since when did it become okay to disrespect a customer like that? Do you really think you can talk to someone so rudely and have them continue to do business with you? Just a short distance away in Auburn is a pool place I will now frequent instead of Ideal Pools where I have been going for over 20 years. And, Seth, in parting I say to you: 'Have a great afternoon! Work Done: Liner, Pump, hoses/fittings - Response time for Service Calls was excellent. - Liner installation went well - the install Team was great. Some remaining misc. issues relating to the post decorations after the install were eventually resolved. - Original problem with some replaced hoses and leaking was resolved. - New pump installation was quick. Securing to the base was an issue at first due to some unavoidable damage during removal of previous pump, but that was handled quickly at no extra charge. - Working with Seth, the Manager, was at times difficult and he kept referring me to the Owner because he states he could not make certain decisions. - The Owner, Cole, worked with me directly to address all concerns I had to my satisfaction. read more

Very disappointed in the fact these folks do not stand behind their products I had a pool installed by this company 2 seasons ago during the closing this year they informed me the cups for my ladder and handrail needed to be replaced no warranty because it's normal wear and tear....really after 2 years...the year before the salt water generator computer burnt out and had to be replaced...it took 6 weeks and now it's held over my head that they replaced it for free...really...wouldn't that be covered by the warranty that the manufacture has..oh sorry not for these folks they don't take responsibility for their shoddy workmanship. The actual guys doing the work are great. The office is beyond frustrating. Pool guys say to let them know if something specific needs to be done and they'll come do it. Office says no, we have to do it. Office says they'll be there between 8 and 8:30. They said it twice on different days. Office (other person?) says they don't even do estimates. Okay, fine, don't call me and remind me they'll be there exactly then if you don't do that and it's far from true. So, we call to get them to finish opening (we had to wait for shock and water levels), have to wait another week, and they didn't show up. All day. We even called towards the end and were told they were still out working and that we're still scheduled. They didn't show. No call. That was yesterday. We call up today, and they say they have no idea and that no one who knows what's going on will even be in until tomorrow. This is so unacceptable! If you just need your pool opened by a few days before it needs to be closed, maybe use them. I'm not sure they'd get around to closing it before snow hits. I am all done with Ideal. Been going to them since 2004. Ever since the business was sold a few years ago the service has been going downhill and the prices have gone uphill. I needed a liner and some parts over the last few years and Seth in the service and parts department acts like he is doing you a favor every time you deal with him for slow and expensive service. My latest adventure involved needing a new valve. Basically I was told we don't want to deal with it and the quote I received on a new filter was $70 higher than I found on Amazon. All they are good for is testing your water. The only thing I would ever recommend you have done is to have your water tested and then just buy something small if you need chemicals and to say you have the other stuff then go to Ocean State Job Lot down the street to get the rest. The person helping me pretty much told me I didn't know what I was talking about. I needed a fitting in a certain size and they didn't have it. Person told me my pool could not have that size fitting and assured me the size they had would work. Told him no, I know what size I need and turned to leave. I had an appointment to have my pool opened - a pool which they installed and have serviced for the past 4 years- which they cancelled without telling me, and when I called to find out where they were, they blamed me for the error! Rather than just admit their mistake and move on, I was argued with by two different employees - told twice that I'd cancelled the appointment because I had to buy home heating oil when I don't even have an oil furnace! Bottom line is I've found someone else to service my pool, and the new company is cheaper to boot. If this is the way they treat their existing customers, it's a wonder they're still in business. In this economy I can't imagine people are beating down their doors to have new pools installed, so you'd think they'd be tripping over themselves to keep their existing customers happy. read more

Worst customer service ever. Ideal Pools Closed my pool this past Septembe - job was done very poorly. A couple of weeks after the closing we had srong winds which blew the cover and ejected the pillow from the pool. I called the office to report it and ask that they come to fix it. I was told that they would but it would cost another $100- on top of the $250 i had paid them a couple of weeks before. They called this extra charge a secondary visit. I reviewed their pricing list - nowhere in the brochure does it state that additional charges will be added if the come back because they fail to do the job right the first time. This is such a scam - if they had done the job right the first time - this wouldn't have happened. I wonder if doing a bad job is another way to make money, so they can chargey you all over again. When you call to get answers, you are told "oh I have no idea why they told you that. They are in CT today." This happened at least 3 times. They finally came out and did a crappy job. I continued to use Ideal Pools this year against the advice of my friends as I have always been pleased with how maintenance free my pool has been. Well this year I have experienced the rudest pool opening ever not to mention it taking 2 weeks and 5 phone calls to the most non customer friendly unprofessional person ever. I even had to hire an electrician to determine that the reason nothing was running was because they hadn't turned the switch on the pool pump to on after their techs took it to their shop because they thought there was a problem with it. The reason I hired an electrician was that when 5 days after the "opening" when they finally hooked everything up nothing was running. When I called I was asked if I had checked the circuit breaker(duh!) and then was rudely told there was there was nothing wrong with the pump I must have an electrical problem. Then on Monday after calling the previous Wednesday to request the pool was ready to be vacuumed I was told that their paperwork showed the job was complete, he would see if he could get someone there in two days - now a full week later. I expressed that that was unacceptable. This Wednesday evening when I called at 5:45 p.m. to inquire about the vacuuming that was still not done I was assured they were still coming out. Seems that there was no ability to understand why I was so upset that I had now received the bill and the pool was still not vacuumed - after all they had been to my house 3 times already....Really? read more

On April 23, 2014 we signed a contract with Ideal Pools, Inc. to have our existing pool refurbished - relocate stairs, new liner and deck. We were told work would start in a couple of weeks. Work did not start - pool became covered with algae. We made numerous phone calls to Cole Scheffler, owner with dates not being met. Work finally started on 6/26/2014 with removal of concrete patio around the pool. Algae water still in pool. On 7/3/2014, existing stairs were removed and algae water remained in deep end of pool. July 8, 2014 pool was being prepped for new in pool stairs. We called constantly and were told they would be here in 2 days, no show, more calls, we went through this all summer. Finally got new stairs, liner and water but no concrete deck until September. Pool was difficult to use at best. When completed the first stair (a three step set) into the pool was 15 1/2 inches from the deck. It was like walking off a cliff, everyone was falling into the pool. Called Cole and he stated "I did nothing wrong". Yes, he did do something wrong. He designed the pool and it was unsafe. We wanted this corrected and finally agreed to pay for a set of 4 step stairs to be installed. We had to pay almost $5,000 more for him to correct what we felt was his error. We were constantly told how difficult it was to have a company design a four step system and a custom liner also. We felt we were not going to have a pool again this year. We went to the Attorney General's office for help. They worked with Ideal Pools and we finally had the pool fixed for the weekend of the 4th of July. So to have a pool refurbished which we contracted for at $23,800 approx. It ended up costing us almost $29,000. I hired Ideal Pools to open my pool and install a new filter in May 2017. Worst nightmare of my life. I was honest up front that it was not covered the year before and told them I'd most likely need a new filter. They installed it 5/30/17. Today is 8/12/17 and the rubber ring inside the filter broke last weekend and the water level is below the skimmer and the pool is useless as it has been all summer. I've tried on multiple occasions to work with them, telling them the filter wasn't functional, I've spent so much money on chemicals at their suggestion after multiple water tests and at this point I've spent $1,600 with the this year and the kids haven't been able to swim nor is the pool usable. Ironic since was the first year that I've ever hired a company to open the pool. Biggest mistake of my life. All they've done is blame me and the condition my pool was in when they came in May. Blaming my water, etc. Isn't that why you hire someone, to get the pool in swimmable condition???? I thought so.....I provided an honest (not rude, just honest, review of my experience on their FB page and they hid it from view from anyone looking at their page then block people from commenting or providing honest feedback on their page. What does that tell you about their business ethics, tells me all I need to know. I will contact another pool company who values their customers. I wish I had thought to research reviews from the various sites prior to contacting them and giving the local guys a chance, had I? I would've seen that the majority of reviews on Ideal Pools are horrible. Lesson learned this summer. I agree with most of the fellow yelp reviewers on here, worst company and service and follow through ever and they do not take ownership of an issue then try and make excuses and hide the negative. This company was horrible to us!!! They do not stand by their products or the quality of their work! We had an above ground pool put in three years ago that has been nothing but problems from day one. We had a tear in our liner the second summer we had it that they blamed on "ice damage." We had to have that fixed ourselves. This summer, only the third summer we have had the pool, the side of the pool literally sank, the pool was visibly uneven which then pulled down the liner. When I called the company, they again blamed it on "ice damage." The funny part was, when we opened the pool at the beginning of this summer, the problem did not exist. This didn't happen until about five weeks after opening the pool! When we called them, no one called back for a week. And when they had someone come out to look at it, no one called me back to tell me what they found! I had a great pool repair man come look at our pool! He informed us that the pool was not installed properly and that a birm was not put around the edge and the ground was not leveled off properly! Our pool pretty much sank on that one side! Again, I believe this company does not stand behind their work or it's quality and they are rude! read more
