This is a nice little place to grab a quick bite to eat & a cold beer. The bartender was very pleasant and constantly checked on us during our time there. I'm not a beer connoisseur by any means so she let me taste a few before making a final decision. I ended up selecting a cider which was sweet and refreshing. AMAZING! You must try the sausages, I got the cheddarwurst and was not disappointed. The place is a bit small but we got a table as soon as we walked in. Wish the patio had an ocean view but the food made up for it. The beer list is not extensive but it got the job done. Wait staff is very friendly! I've eaten here twice, and really wanted to like it, but....... While Idle Hour has the potential be a nice place to have some good beer, and a simple meal, unfortunately it fails to deliver. My party and I went around 6pm on a Wednesday. The outside area was open, with plenty of seating. It's nice area with picnic tables and palm trees in an enclosed sandy, beach-style area. We ordered some burgers and fried pickles. The burgers weren't bad, though lacking much flavor. The onion straws that came with the burger, and the fried pickles had a very off, odd flavor to them. I'm not sure if it was the batter on them, or the cooking oil, but something wasn't right. While the odd taste of the fried food was unpleasant, it wasn't the worst part of the meal. THE FLIES were! Now I realize, i'm eating outside. There's going to be some bugs. But as soon as the food is served, dozens of flies started attacking our (and others seated nearby) food. You eat with one hand, and shoo the flies away with the other. Eventually we sacrificed our off-tasting pickles to the flies in the hope that they'd leave our other food alone.....That tactic wasn't very successful. Now I understand the owners are up against a tough task, but at least try something. Light the outside fireplace, or set up some torches or something. Finally, a rush seemed to come after we got our food, so we had to wait a 1/2 hour to get our check from our missing waitress. All the while being attacked by the flies that continued to attack the food we'd given up eating, as well as our drinks.....well, at least the flies seemed to enjoy it. read more

So last summer this place was AMAZING. Burgers were great, beer good, and liquor drinks delicious. Hey still have great drinks, but they are pricey. I came with a group of 7 and we came through inside to order a drink at the bar before sitting outside. We were greeted by one of the waitresses who was very rude. Of course I came back with a reply that she obviously didn't like. It seemed that that particular waitress was supposed to wait on us, but asked another girl to take our table. That was totally fine though, because our new waitress was supper sweet and attentive! She was very good with her recommendations. I got the Hangover Cure burger, and it was eh. Not very flavorful. Here's the other part that really confused the whole group. As we ordered, one guy in the party pointed at his date and said, "We will be on the same ticket". The waitress said that's okay we will take care of it at the end. Well, that was NOT the case. They were not able to split our ticket, so the whole party had to just split the WHOLE ticket between us, which was over $80.00. We did not all eat or drink the same stuff, so that was a little unfair. Had the waitress just split it in the beginning like we asked, it would have been so easy to pay. Disappointed Idle Hour. Had a great time hanging out in the beer garden for food, drinks and live music. Great food... We had brats and hotdogs for the kids. The brats came with a unique combo of sauerkraut and spiral cut cucumbers along with their homemade mustard, super tasty! Kids enjoyed hotdogs and German pretzels with cheese sauce for dipping. "Time keeps on slippin', into the future....". Idle hour is my new favorite term, and a great dive diner in Emerald Isle. Burgers were AMAZING. Juicy, and the bread stays dry. A true feat of a good burger dive. Servers were great and even cooked my T1 diabetic daughter her own grilled cheese on my bread to save us some high sugar spikes and extra insulin during our day excursion. Today was our first time going to Idle Hour Biergarden. We had a party of 5 and wanted to grab a quick lunch while visiting Atlantic Beach on vacation. We were not disappointed! We loved the bright cherry atmosphere and were seated immediately. The service was great and the burgers were the best my husband and I have had in a long time. No frozen patties here and done to perfection. We also had the fried pickles for our appetizer. I'm normally not a fried pickle fan but my husband is. Let me tell you these were great, thinly sliced pickles with a great lite batter. We are not beer drinkers but it looked like they had a nice variety. If I had to mention a negative I would say when all the tables are full it can get pretty loud but hey we were on vacation and everyone around us was having fun and so were we! Walked in to a super busy fourth of July rush and we were greeted by a cheerful greeting from our server. She gave my boyfriend and I incredible service this Saturday. We didn't catch her name but all the employees that day were very helpful. The atmosphere outside was super inviting and a place I would want to hang out. Have read good reviews about this place and saw the recent soft opening so we thought that our family of four would give it a shot. Today was the opening night so of course there will be some hiccups. Started off by being told to seat ourselves but then had to wait a while for menus. We were apologized to and told they were under staffed . 1st night and understaffed??? Menus stated on it that it was the "soft opening" menu and that the full menu would be availaible April 11...today was April 11. They have limited outdoor seating which we just missed. 5 mins earlier and we would have missed sitting next to the obnoxiously loud table. Nothing like trying to talk over "an adults only camping" story so your 9 yr old can't here it! Took 30 mins to get hot pretzel appetizer...food showed up 10 mins later. Wife and I had the fish tacos....good. Could have used a little more fish. Daughters split the burger. Fries came out cold but the staff did a great job of replacing them with some deliciously hot and seasoned fries! Management was very gracious to come over and deal with it. Very disappointed! We were looking for a late bite(10pm on a Saturday night). Nothing showed the kitchen closed at 10, but after sitting at the bar for 5 minutes waiting for the female bartender to acknowledge our existence we gave up. Having really enjoyed our stop at Idle Hour last year, it was a given that we stop again while we are in the area this year. We were disappointed to find that with such a very limited menu to begin with that several items were not available such as the pretzels and cheddarwurst. The food and service were fine as was the Weihenstephan (best hefewiezen on earth!). I think they need to invest on a better AC system as it felt rather warm inside and an expanded menu would go a long way. read more

Awesome small beach restaurant with a great beer selection (lots of local NC brews, too) and delicious food! We both had bratwurst with sauerkraut, onions, and house-made mustard, but there are plenty other toppings to choose from. You can eat inside in the small but nice dining area or outside with tables set in the sand. Both areas have a fire place, and if you're outside you can bring your dog as long as they're on a leash. read more

Great lunch! We started with cider and beer and then shared appetizers- fried pickles and oysters. Without a doubt, the best fried pickles ever! Perfectly seasoned and lightly battered, cooked just right. The oysters were just as well done. Four of us had four different entrees and everyone's was fabulous. This new restaurant has only been open for a little over a week. It is located on the circle in Atlantic Beach just east of Crab's Claw. They have a good variety of beer on tap and in bottles and serve German food. The menu is not extensive but is good, especially for lunch. The restaurant is not big. It seats about 30 inside and more in the bier garten outside. This offers a nice addition to the restaurants in the area and is probably the only German restaurant in the area. My wife ordered fried oysters on a salad and enjoyed it very much. Parking is available on the street. read more

All we could order were wings and fries. Wings were only half wings, like you were in some shi shi restaurant. They were pretty good but hey, truth in advertising, mention in your menu that it's only part of the wing! For $11 if I remember correctly... The food was excellent and a great change from the typical fried seafood faire at other local establishments! We had fries with cheese and meat for an appetizer, YUM! Given the proximity to the beach, I was expecting boardwalk fare. This was much more! Our group had 3 apps, 4 types of tacos, a burger, a shrimp burger, and a kids hotdog... all great. Cocktails and beer menu also excellent. Our one complaint was that they seemed way understaffed - two people to take orders, tend bar, and run the food to tables. This was our second summer vacation in a row on the island and it was a drag to discover this place so late in our stay. The draft list was small, local, and interesting. The food was simple, well made pub food that hit the spot. My wife and I were going to go to the fancy italian place on a date, but this hit the spot, and we're glad we went casual. I'm so happy that there is an authentic Biergarten in Atlantic Beach that I can't even stand it. My family went to dinner one night and while biking back home, we decided to stop by and check it out. It was a gorgeous night so we sat outside, as there are plenty of comfortable picnic tables and lower, round tables and chairs outside with sand and strung lights. Great atmosphere. Our server was so nice, bringing over a small chalkboard with all of their draft beers (local and German). They also have a great selection of bottled beers. I had an apple cider that was amazing, and everyone else seemed to really like their beer selections as well. I looked at their menu while we were drinking and I'm so impressed by what they offer; can't wait to come back and try some grub! Definitely a must visit while at the beach. Nice alternative to the seafood restaurants in the area and good for some vegetarian options. We had the fried cheese curds and the pretzel for starters and the grilled cheese and lobster roll. The food was so-so, nothing really stood out. The lobster was chopped and had a somewhat fishy taste to it, which I thought was unusual for lobster.
