We are so glad we found a present our family loved!!! Some people can empathize with my plight - what do you get for people that can pretty much get anything they want for themselves? Our only hope was to find something they had not yet found for themselves. Enter iFLY Portland. This place is really cool. You get to try "skydiving" without all the sticky wicket business of falling to your doom at roughly180 feet/sec. A giant transparent tube sits in the center of the building. Below a springy mesh floor is an enormous fan system that can be adjusted to an RPM adequate to create lifting body force. So long as you are below 270 lbs, you should be able to try this out. I saw some VERY healthy sized patrons take flight. Ultimately, our family lucked out. All the instructors are great. There is one gentlemen who clearly does this activity at a highly competitive level. I could scarcely keep up with his speed as he raced up and down the vertical shaft with the ease of a swallow. I guess our gift was a winner because no sooner had our family exited their session then they were signing up for another package (at a rather favorable discount). My first time here so I didn't know what to expect! But I was so excited. Chad was awesome!! Introduced himself and explained what we were gonna be doing, did a lil pre-flight with us and was very clear in the tunnel on what to do. The staff were very friendly and passionate about what they do. The experience was mostly smooth, except the helmet fitting part - probably because my head shape/size is caught between their enclosed helmet sizes. Eventually I had to use an open face helmet plus goggles which also worked fine, but did expose me to the strong airflow directly. I didn't quite mind the impact, but wanted to note that in case anyone also uses an open face helmet - keep breathing even though it feels a bit weird under the strong airflow, you'll be fine. The flight felt short of course because of e always wanted the fun to last, lol. But it was cool and the timer was on to make sure we got the minute for each flight. High flights are the best. Returning customers can learn to do more tricks and experience more flights for less cost. There were a lot of kids as well, it's actually fun watching them. We also got full video and all photos. It's nice to not have to worry about that and focus on the flight. read more

My daughters got it in their head that they wanted to "skydive". They were sad at first until we found iFly outside of Portland! We made arrangements online and completed the waivers online too (highly recommended). Showed up about 15 minutes before our 2:30 appointment and after each of our girls were weighed they were taken upstairs. Upstairs they were given their jumpsuits and goggles. Then we attended a short safety class after which they were given ear plugs and helmets (I believe for an additional fee they will give you helmets with full visors so you don't need the goggles). We paid for the 4 X 60 second flight session for each of them along with "high fly" additions. Jordan was very knowledgeable and patient with our almost 7 year olds. Despite one of our girls being a little "squirrelly" he managed to ensure the girls had a great experience and they were all smiles. It is not an inexpensive exercise but it will surely be an experience they will remember for a long time. I would highly recommend giving them a try! read more

Kiddo's birthday. He saw this place on i5 hundred of times. And it's the day turning 14. I bought deal direct from their website. Two flights for 69. When we got there I ended up paying 40 more as the gal upsell 2 more flights and free photos sounds like a good add on because each flight is SO short. Son was the only flyer that weekday morning. Thought it was a good idea no no crowds. Wrong. Go do with others so your hundred dollars can last a while. His whole experience was done in less than 10 minutes from training to 3 flights (*not 4 because the instructor talked him to do a longer flight instead of two extra). Oh well they didn't cheat anything it was seconds they count. After that instructor upsell again but this directly to the kid when he was in the tunnel alone. Of course any kid would say yes but I was done. Mindful this is not going to happen anymore because it's very pricy per person and upselling techniques is bit much. Oh, for photos please be strong. Take your own. Their online photos aren't any better and you have just a week to access them. When I paid I thought I would get a photo souvenir in paper frame with their logo as a keepsake for his birthday. Nope, walked out nothing. Lame. It would cost them a few cents to create that memorable experience. Stupid not to send back some cheap marketing materials. read more

OMG, this was so much fun!! I've always wanted to go skydiving but the whole "what if the chute doesn't open" thing kinda freaks me out. So iFLY was a perfect experience and a great way to get a little taste of what it might be like to skydive. I got lucky and was the only person flying. So I had the entire tunnel to myself! I was totally stoked and couldn't wait. They let me mount my GoPro on the outside of the tunnel so I got a couple of good videos. My instructor was the totally chill Cole Fehr. Cole and the other three members of Team Prana Vayu (the US National Skydiving Champions) work at iFLY Portland. Tip: Pay extra for the full face helmet. When you smile (because you will and won't be able to stop because it's so awesome!) and the air hits you at 120 mph, you're going to drool like a baby. Even though I flew right after lunch, I didn't feel queasy. That's the cool thing about indoor skydiving. You won't get that sinking in the stomach feeling or airsickness. You'll only feel a slight pressure, more like wind resistance. It's the same type of feeling as putting your arm out the car window. When it's your turn to fly, you stand in the doorway with your hands at the top of the frame and lean in, chest first. Kinda like freefalling or bellyflopping. Each flight is 60 seconds which is short but not as short as you'd think. I had so much fun but so many things were going through my head, "OMG, I'm flying. This is so cool. Yuck, I'm totally drooling, I wish I could wipe off my chin. Am I positioned right? This is awesome! Oh, wait I need to spread my legs. Are my arms positioned right? I'm leaning too far to the left." and on and on. Paying for the high flight is worth the $10. Overall, it's a bit expensive but you can buy discounted gift cards at Costco and find deals on Groupon. Once you've done a flight, you're considered a return flyer and get lower prices. I'm totally addicted and can't wait to visit the iFLY near me. read more

I call the line for non experienced tunnel flyers and the recording said they're closed. On their website, Google, and on here, their hours are posted 11-6 for today. How am I supposed to book time if I can't do it online and no one answers the phone? read more

We were visiting Portland for a medical appointment and were out site seeing around the area and ran across the iFLY Indoor Skydiving. This was so fun of a day that I wish we had places like this in New Orleans. The excitement of skydiving again without actually having to jump out of planes again was so fun. The staff was super knowledgeable and very well trained. They ensured that everyone went through the proper safety classes before entering into the chamber. Your instructor was like a gymnast in the air and ensured that we had a great time and safe skydiving adventure. I highly recommend that if you get a chance to try it please do. Prior to becoming a skydiver, I would have said this was a waste of money. However, now that I skydive, I would say this is a great jumping-off point (no pun intended) for those who might be interested in eventually learning to skydive. It might just seem like a minute in the wind, but learning to fly your body is like learning to scuba dive. You have to hold your body in a certain way, and any movement is going to cause you to go in one direction or another. It's a very delicate balancing act. If you listen to the instructors and follow their directions, you'll be that much better the next time, and the next... I've known quite a few people who started skydiving because they enjoyed their time at iFly. The staff here is incredible--honestly--I've been to different iFly facilities across the country and this has been the best experience I've had. I watched the staff interact with other customers, customers who had never skydived and who had never flown in a tunnel, and I was so happy to see these interactions. Everyone was treated with kindness and respect, from the littlest little to the oldest (me). I was just so happy to be there. I didn't feel rushed, or that my time and my money wasn't valuable. Before Covid this place was great!! I went with a teen for her birthday and fell in love with the feeling of flying. And I was able to fly easily so I bought a 10 session that first day. And then asked Cole when he taught flying and booked my flight. When I got there and geared up we went into the tunnel and he taught me how to go in a circle, go back and forth, go up and down. I was in there 5!!!!! Times for 2 minutes. I was worn out. When I asked about my next session I was surprised to hear I had used them all that day. For $139 you get 10 flights. Ten 1 minute flights. The sessions have to be used in one 30 minute segment. It's very fun but extremely expensive. Then, they had to close down. If you've never done this I would say go for it! But to really get skillful you have to pay big time and go at least weekly. read more

My son wanted to come here for his birthday. It's a very modern, high tech company. They get you outfitted and you get a couple of turns "flying" in their wind tunnel. It's a unique experience. It's unique but I didn't feel it's worth the super-high price tag. You're talking $35 per minute. Plus from the time you walk in they're trying to upsell and add on more things. At the end they say you can add on more flight time for the future but only if you buy it now. Lots of high pressure selling. The good news is they offer a teacher discount. The bad news is that it's only good Monday-Friday, the days teachers are actually working. So I don't think I'll go back. Too expensive and not quite worth it. read more

When we first reserved the flights, there was an ice storm and we couldn't make it. They were very understanding and had no problems holding our reservation for a later date. Rebooking was not a problem and the whole crew was very kind. We bought flights for our 7 and 16 year old boys and they both had fun! They want to do it again so we bought more flights using their discounts they offer after your flight for future use. The whole process was very smooth and did not take long. Took my 9 year old nephew to this place and he had so much fun! Know that it's best to reserve your time. If they are full, you'll have to wait for the next available open times. Once checked in, we're directed to go upstairs to wait for our instructor to call out our group time. There's one wind tunnel where everyone takes turn one at a time with an instructor to fly. After we are gathered, we stored our belongings in a locker, grabbed our suit and gears, watched a demonstration video, and waited for our turn to fly. The number of times you get to fly depends on your purchased package. My nephew and I both got to go in for 1 min each to catch the drift then again for 2 min each to learn how to turn and spin up high and low in the wind tunnel with the instructor. Our instructor, Chad, was awesome! My nephew was nervous but after the 1st round in the tunnel, he couldn't wait to get back inside. Once everyone had there turn in the tunnel, Chad puts on a show for us to demonstrate the possibilities of what ifly has to offer. He was twirling upside down, up and down, diving and flying it was crazy cool! The whole experience was about 1.5h and there's picture and videos you can purchase at the end. Had a great time doing indoor skydiving. Nick was a great instructor. We ended up buying a package from Costco for 2- 1 minute flying sessions. They start off by showing you an instructional video about your body positioning and hand signals used while in the air-tunnel, then you get suited up (body suit, helmet, eye shields, and ear plugs) and off to fly. Definitely a fun experience, if they have more specials I would love to try it again. read more

And, I couldn't of asked for a better experience. The high flight, the virtual reality, the post picture and video of my flight was AWESOME! I've gone bungee jumping, zip lining, jet skiing, boogie boarding and other fun experiences. I've been on super high slides and free falls too. Let me tell everyone... iFly blows them all away. I was then introduced to my iFly instructor - Travis Valentyne - who brought me into a world of fun and high energy, instantly, by his persona. As someone who works in finance, it's sometimes hard to get out of the serious world. Travis brought me quickly in to the culture of iFly. High energy, high professionalism, and tons of Fun. The visual experience of iFly, the setting, the layout, the staff, the services offered, and the overall set up made this a wonderful experience. iFly is high energy, AMAZING, and one of the best experiences I have had in my life. And even better is that it doesn't have to stop with one experience. You can keep going and growing to master this craft. But what iLove (pun intended) about iFly is that it blew away my anticipated "this will be nice" expectation. Instead, my mindset shifted real fast. And what made this shift happen and what took the entire experience to the next level was my personal instructor Travis Valentyne. On a scale of 1-10, Travis is a 12. You can tell he is an expert and continues to master and fine tune his craft. You can FEEL he is passionate about what he does. From the very beginning he made us, the customer, feel welcome, brought us in to the iFly culture, and and created a monumental experience. Travis is a true professional. What a winning combo!! Also from the minute we were introduced, to the minute we left, Travis made us feel that we were the most important people in the room, and he was there to serve us, the customer. From explaining the lay of the land, to the fitting of the iFly gear, to the instruction, safety, and education, to the preparation, the flying, the round up, the post iFly services, He was with us the entire way through. Now this is important to know. Beginners are naturally nervous. And when that nervousness is quickly managed by the instructor, you know you have the right instructor or coach. People who can manage behavior are truly at another level, and that's what you want. Someone who cares enough to know how to instruct on skillset, and more importantly, someone who also invested their time and took the effort to learn how to manage behavior. THAT, is what creates a truly...memorable....experience. To illustrate, Sometimes there are time gaps in experiences where we get in our own heads. When someone knows their craft so well, it is the true professional that is there for the customer, prepared, and firing on all cylinders the entire time. For example, when I was changing into my gear, as soon as I was done, I started to think, "Well now what?" Well. Travis was already back with me as if at the perfect moment, bringing me along to the next stage of the process. He knew exactly what was going on at all times, was fully aware of what is going on inside of us. Also, when I shut the visor of my helmet, he had already anticipated the concern of raising it. He quickly and clearly explained what I just did, and then went to spell out the problem that I would soon have and how to correct it. He explained how to release the visor as it is not as intuitive as one may think. For a first timer, this is key. And...all done before a natural feeling of concern kicked in. Travis Valentyne = Master Instructor. I am writing this review a day later and as I reflect and re-live my iFly experience, I want to share that I have the same amount of energy now as I did with the actual experience itself. This is all thanks to Travis and the iFly Portland team. I have set a goal to be an iFly champion in the next 5 years. We all have times in our lives, turning points, that are so memorable, that when you reflect the following day, you see it is the start of a new chapter in your life. So fun! We received this as a gift and went today. We lucked out big time and had the place all to ourselves! Our instructor Sam was really friendly, thorough, and made us feel comfortable. Conceptually it's very easy as a first-timer. Body position and hand signals were clear and easy to remember. The actual flights were a little more taxing on my shoulders than I expected. Not a complaint, but after 3 flights I definitely felt like I did a bunch of push ups! Maybe I'm extra out-of-shape so I might be a little bit sore tomorrow. Haha! I would recommend upgrading at least one turn to the hight flight option, that was awesome! And when I do it again I will also upgrade to the full face shield helmet. 130 mph winds shooting up your nose is a strange sensation! All that being said it was a great experience. Watching all the employees fly and do tricks was really impressive and entertaining - what a fun job!! I hope to do this again in the future. read more
