Do yourself a favor and check this place out. I had the privilege to train with Dave Shutler starting in April, 2015. Prior to meeting Dave, I was your typical gym goer. Went to the gym 3-4 times a week only never able to fully get results. As I started to reach my mid -30's I knew I had to make some changes in my lifestyle in order to maintain my health. I made the wise decision to hire Dave. He gave me the foundation and taught me how to train properly, employ proper nutrition, and live a balanced healthy lifestyle. My initial goal was to decrease my body fat%. In my first month I measured in at 21% with a goal to eventually get to 10%. As the weeks went on I started to achieve rapid results. The first thing that I noticed about Dave Shutler was his genuine enthusiasm for working with me. Over the months that he has trained me, Dave's sincerity and deep knowledge of all aspects of fitness have never failed to impress me. I am always continually impressed by his humility too. He can shift gears from a casual conversation to an in-depth discussion about fitness and never come across as if he is lecturing or condescending. This past February I decided I was tired of being "skinny fat." This is when you look pretty skinny in clothes but underneath you're all flab. I was desperately yearning for my old athletic body back but I was lacking in true motivation. I needed someone who would hold me accountable and teach me some proper form until my old workout addiction kicked back in. Dave was recommended to me and he turned out to be the best gift I ever gave myself. He's serious about fitness and nutrition but not intimidating. He never asks anything of you that he isn't willing to do himself. He is extremely passionate about all things pertaining to living an all-around healthy lifestyle. I really can't say enough about how great Icon is. Dave is amazing and his program has literally changed my life. I've been working out for a while, and honestly I didn't think Icon would have much to offer me. I assumed it was like a standard Crossfit gym or globo gym trainer business model, but it's completely different. Like many people in this area, I feel like I have tried it all. I have worked out most of my life and it has always been part of my day. Lately it's been hard to find a) something that challenges me where I won't get injured, b) a trainer that is encouraging and knowledgeable and c) a program that actually has a "plan" and weekly you see improvement in your strength and conditioning. Oh and d) a CLEAN gym! Dave has all types of athletes in his classes and takes the time to know what each person is capable of and provides modification if needed. It's amazing when you struggle with something week one and by week four you see improvement, I see it daily if not with myself but with fellow class mates. The atmosphere at the gym is friendly, encouraging and fun, yet Dave moves it along so we get the work done. Dave takes the time to provide very specific instruction to each person in each class which I think is important to avoid injury as we get older (ahem). Upon completion of ICON gym's 6 week challenge, the decision to become a full time member was a no brainer. I have had such an amazing experience as part of the ICON family that my wife recently joined the gym as well. Both Dave Shutler and Daesha Cummings are extremely knowledgeable and truly care about each of their clients. I have worked out with trainers at a popular chain gym in the past and it doesn't even compare to the experience I have had at ICON.
