This is one of those stories that makes you sick to your stomach to tell. Some years ago I signed up for IGS after they approached me with the promise of saving money. I signed up for a plan and didn't think much more of it. Pricing was similar to DTE in the end, I don't know if I saved or spent a few more pennies during this contract period. At this point I will sidebar to say that this is a commercial address and I own several of them but luckily was only duped into changing service at one. This winter, I noticed my gas bills were over $2000 at one of my addresses. It was brought to my attention and I paid to replace a few older furnaces and did some checking on indoor temperatures there. After still getting high bills, I looked at a gas bill and to my shock and horror, I saw that I was paying .699 CCF and on my other properties .407! That's right IGS was charging me nearly double. I called thinking an adjustment would be easy. The guy on the phone was rude. Before I could even explain the situation he tried selling me a contract with a price of .489 for the next 12 months. He talked over me but when I finally got my story out, he told me it was my fault for not looking at my bills and said there's nothing he can do for me. I asked to speak to a supervisor, he put me on hold and got back on the phone saying that the supervisor told him to tell me that I should have looked at my bill and there's nothing they can do. When I explained that they promised me I would save money and I have lost thousands of dollars he said 'you can't know that'. When I went over numbers he said that the math is complicated. I realize why we have regulators after an experience like this. IGS is a SCAM. Their entire business model is based on expiring contracts and gouging people who don't notice. Some people going door to door here in Villa Park saying they are with IGS Energy asking to see my Comed Bill. They say they want to "make sure I got some credits I was entitled to on my last bill". It's a scam to get my account number so they can change my electricity supplier to them (still a bill from Comed) doubling or tripling my electricity costs. Beware homeowners! read more

A man came to my door 4 times every time he would see me outside he would stand in front of my door and tell me that I need to sign up he would Target me saying that I see you're not with anyone you must be a single mom and so on I felt intimidated I was scared and I don't think they should be doing door-to-door he would approach my children and I'm not happy with this company or how it was represented read more

I don't appreciate your sales Representative Madison Phillips ID#PL41417 come to my house and telling me that IGS Energy is affiliated with So Cal Gas company. She told me that i will get 50% off if i sign since its a new promotion going on. I trusted her and gave her the benefit of the doubt, she asked me for my account number for so cal gas and other information. Before she came to my house she went next door to speak to my neighbor that doesn't understand English that well and also made her sign. I don't like how you train your sale representative to take advantage of people, I am very satisfied with my company. I already called your company to cancel my enrollment immediately. Recently I had a door to door rep from IGS Energy visit me. I don't normally talk to door to door sales reps much, but he seemed like a nice man. He ended up informing me that in Ohio you can apparently select where you purchase your electricity from, which I wasn't aware of. Ultimately I didn't buy anything but I did end up doing some research online based on his recommendation and I found out there are several companies in Columbus that are offering a lower electricity price than what I was paying! I'm not sure who I was paying my default electricity service through but I'm glad he let me know about other options. read more

A complete scam. I am a new, young apartment renter and made the mistake of answering the door when a lady from IGS came to my door. The lady sold herself as a part of Duke Energy and that I should've gotten a letter (that I never got) from Duke and since I didn't respond she was sent. She said she needed to update my information from the previous renters of my apartment unit. I signed, because I saw there was no fee to cancel within three days and I figured that gave me enough time to truly see what this all is. She told me a copy of what I signed would be sent to me via email, but it's now been over an hour and I haven't received a copy. Right after she left, I called Duke Energy and they advised me to call and cancel what I signed. I called IGS and got cancelation confirmation numbers and Duke advised me to call them again in three days to make sure IGS is nowhere on my account. Such a shady business! Since this is my first time renting I was naive and assumed this was apart of my gas and electric setup, but clearly I was wrong and the lady took full advantage of me seeming so confused. read more

IGS comes to my door in south Columbus periodically for the past 2 years. The very first time I was intrigued. Save money? Of course! He actually lied and said he worked for AEP then he asked to see my bill. I thought, If you're with AEP how come you don't have that info before you knock on my door? And your badge says IGS. He then alluded to they are some kind of affiliate. I didn't like that so said I can't find my bill and he said he'd come back later. I called AEP and asked if this IGS is from AEP..she said no way . They will just handle the billing and I will still be supplied through AEP and she explained the whole thing to me. When he came back I told him no way and what AEP told me. He kindly left and periodically they still knock. Still not interested for one they just flat out lie and say they work for AEP.. They are probably told it's ok to say that because they have an "arrangement" to handle the billing. But they know that's not what we are asking. Anyway they were here last week when my fiance answered the door. He told them not interested. They came again today, I look out the door like man not again. I saw her badge and before she could speak I said not interested..she smacked her lips, "not interested in what?" I'm thinking dang-it lady, do you think I don't know why you here? I said "saving money on energy." She goes, "Well you know AEP gonna send us back out here. right" I didn't even need to argue with her. I just said no thanks and closed the door. I heard her mumble something I'm sure was not nice. She's lucky I'm not high strung, Someone in this neighborhood is sure to go back out there like "what you say you little..." She was young and trying to work. I should have told her about my work at home customer service employer. No way I'd be going door to door the way people get snatched up nowadays. God bless them and keep them safe I' will keep telling them to save their breath. . It's never the same sales person though. They got some nerve. read more

I've been an IGS customer for several years now, and I'm pretty darn pleased with the whole experience. Admittedly I didn't know much about gas and electricity when I signed up, but the customer rep thoroughly explained it all to me. I actually didn't know I had a choice to buy gas and electricity separately from the utility company, or why that would matter. But as it turns out, we DO have the option for power to be supplied separately, and we can even pick from different types of contracts. The guy I talked to on the phone was pretty legit - he really understood this stuff inside out and backwards. So I thought I would take a chance. IT HAS DEFINITELY PAID OFF. Our bills are waaay better than they used to be. Which is of course the main thing I like. But beyond that, they have really good customer service. The people that answer the phones are ACTUAL NORMAL HUMANS who are nice to talk to. And I feel like that is not typical for this industry, and deserves mentioning. BUYER BEWARE IGS Energy is using door to door sales tactics to RIP OFF Seniors, other unsuspecting people. I just spent several hours investigating IGS Energy's proclamation of savings to my mother-in-law. First the Salesman represented himself as a Member of the local Gas Company. Second he sold her a fix plan that is 35% higher per therm than her average through Southern California Gas, thirdly they would charge her $6.95 per month service fee or $83.40 per year. Please report these types of issues to the Utilities Commission. read more

Door to Door salesman from IGS interrupted my work at home. He seemed cool, said he could save me money on my energy bills with yearly fixed rates. He wasn't 100% honest, but he wasn't trying to scam me as stated in other reviews. Since all my bills are electronic, I never read them. He notified me that I was paying .122 per kWatt from NRG, which is double from what I originally signed up for as a promotional rate. They even were sending me rebate checks on a regular basis. Guilt from double charging me?? That probably should have raised a reg flag in that they didn't want to screw me over too much. These suppliers want you to forget about your energy bills so they can cash in on a variable monthly rate. At least your energy delivery provider may not be the best rate out there, but they never jack up their rates like these independent suppliers do. At any rate, I signed up with them that day. I did not accept the insurance without knowing the written details and fine print (there's always a catch). I don't like making on-the-spot decisions either. I didn't fully believe the salesman and I did my own rate checking afterwards and found the rates were not that competitive for my area by an extra 2 cents per kWatt & 3 cents per therm. I ended up sending the canceled contract the next day (you get 10 business days to terminate the contract) through the mail. I assume you have to pay the $50 termination fee for each energy you signed up for after that point. While I appreciate IGS informing me I was paying too much for my energy bills, I do value my privacy and I also have work deadlines I did not plan on getting distracted from. I also am now creating calendar reminders for these "teaser" rates so I don't get bilked into a higher rate once it expires. As I stated, you usually are better of staying with your energy provider that delivers the energy to your home than an independent supplier. You also don't need to be loyal to your current supplier. I'd also suggest IGS not use door-to-door or phone marketing because a) nobody likes being rushed into a decision and b) the majority of your sales staff are not licensed to sell door-to-door in each city they sell in. Most cities charge a fee to sell door-to-door for a permit and a badge is provided to prove they are licensed. Your staff should be aware of these local laws and they should not ignore them. It is very easy to make yourself look like you are from a reputable company that no one has ever heard of (IGS badge). My community also has no solicitation signs posted but they were ignored by your staff. I guess I need to get one for my door in the future. Some cities provide these stickers free of charge. If they still attempt to solicit with the no solicitation sign, they are trespassing and the police can be called. I would be interested in IGS in the future if their rates are competitive in the market. read more

I signed up for IGS as my supplier not knowing I already had a supplier at a higher variable rate at 19 cents per kWh my rate was reduced and fixed and I just received my bill and it's $ 100.00 cheaper than it was when I had that high rate I was skeptical at first but now I am very satisfied I chose IGS ENERGY. The customer service was acceptable and the length of time I waited for service calls was within 24-48 hrs for Furnace issue. Repair was done quickly with explanation of the problem and the solution. In 2019 the AC was a major issue. we requested service three times over a 6 week period for failure to cool. The last service technician told us we needed an " A Coil" at the cost of $1200.00. After that last visit not only was it not cooling now it was making a horrible noise when it tried to come on. It was worse than when they came. Our AC unit is 4 years old and has been serviced every year since installation for the same problem. We decided to get another opinion from Blind and Son at a separate cost to us. They found the unit overfilled with refrigerant and the TXV sensing bulb unwrapped and disconnected. This occured in 2019. We have had no problems at all this summer(2020) I waited until the end of summer to see if Advanced plumbing and drain was correct about the A coil. THEY WERE NOT! Additionally, we paid Advanced plumbing for refrigerant we did not need and 2 months later an additional charge for the disposal of that same refrigerate. IGS HAS NO EASILY ACCESSABLE WAY TO REMEDIATE DISPUTES WITH THEIR CONTRACTORS. read more

In an industry that can be confusing to navigate, my experience has been that the IGS team is happy to explain and actually gets sort of jazzed to answer questions and recommend the best solution based on what I need. So disappointed in this company that I have heard so many good things about. I had the worst nightmare scenario that one could have with owning a house. My furnace broke and the technician thinks there is issues with my AC unit as well. Total nightmare. Its ok though, I thought since I had an IGS home warranty and I heard so many good things, that I looked at my service agreement and saw that the AC unit was covered for up to $1750 for the air conditioning unit, and that the furnace was covered under the heating section of my service agreement for another $1750. However, what IGS doesn't tell you in the service agreement is that repairs to the furnace when you were using the AC system, come off of your $1750 in AC coverage NOT your heating coverage even though that is the section of the service agreement that specifically mentions coverage of the furnace. So if you are like me, and thought, ok, I can use 1750 in repairs toward the AC unit and a separate $1750 for the furnace based on how they are mentioned in the service agreement that is not the case. So if it is determined that I have a lot of repairs to my furnace and I need to repair my AC unit outside, I will only receive the $1750 of coverage because I was only using the AC system. I asked why this wasn't detailed in their service agreement specifically and their customer service rep told me that "even through its not detailed specifically in our service agreement, this is our policy". I didn't know that a company could invent policy that they are not forthcoming about in their service agreement. I also had the highest level of coverage there is (Premier Plus) level. So beware, if you read the service agreement thinking the coverages for those mechanicals are separate, they are NOT because you would never be using your AC AND your HEAT at the same time so there is no way that the warranty would allow you to use the coverage listed in both areas. Pretty transparent company and easy to deal with. I have been with IGS Energy for about 3 years. I usually call in about once a year to get my gas rate locked in. If they are not the lowest rate out there, they are always at least one of the lowest. The sales reps have always been friendly and answered my questions. The only downside is that you do have to take a little bit of time to actually call and get a fixed rate. Overall, I think it is worth it, because I know I don't have to work about price spikes in natural gas if there is a big hurricane, and mid east war or something like that. read more

They were out as an official supplier of Nicor trying to lock everyone's rates before winter.I kept pressuring him for straight answers and he kept trying to get a me to bring him my last gas bill. Finally he decided I wasn't worth the time and said, "You're an independent thinker huh?" and just turned and took off. Although he never told a direct lie he sure did try to spin and confuse the conversation. Definitely not a company with whom I would trust doing business. read more

Dealing with IGS in any way is a bad decision. I believe the money is not a significant difference in utility bills, but the duplicity is not acceptable to me. Perhaps enough people enjoy this style of dishonesty to keep IGS in business Worse, when I contacted BBB(Better Business bureau) IGS offered to investigate the neighborhood rep who called them for confirmation of his information. They refused to be accountable for the in- house rep who did not cancel, as requested. Then the follow-up person I contacted today failed to inform me of all the time lines for cancellation. Two young ladies showed up at my door at 5pm today, Saturday. I was obvious with my body language I was not happy with the intrustion on a weekend at dinner time. The rep said "don't worry, we are not here to sell you anything" then said she represented my current utility companies and wanted to make sure I was signed up for savings. I asked her for some information so I could do my homework before signing up for anything, she didn't seem happy and told me to go to the IGS website but to hurry it was a limited time offer. It is frightening to me that this is legal, I am sure our senior homeowners don't know to ask quesitons and get stuck in a committment that was presented in a very sneaky way. Do NOT sign up with these people. Send them promptly away from your door. A lady from Accent Energy, whose parent is IGS came to my house late at night offering a great deal, cheaper gas price than PG&E. What they neglect to tell you is that you still need to pay PG&E for the delivery and servicing charges. They conveniently do not mention this but instead show you a faulty price comparison, comparing apples and oranges and claiming IGS price is cheaper. This is NOT true and misleading because your overall bill will go up. They need to get sued for these practices, but unfortunately PUC does not regulate these middle men very well. This is what PUC told me - they do not fall into their span of control. Anyhow, I was shocked the first time I got the bill. Instead of savings, my bill almost doubled. What a "great" deal, IGS! I called the lady who signed me up and of course she never picked up and never called back and I also called customer service. They simply gave me the standard apology and proverbially shrugged their shoulders. They would not do a thing to help me to make things right. They could have offered me a courtesy credit, but of course No. Thankfully PG&E switched my account number so that I would not continue to bleed money to these scammers. UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE We are sorry that we have not updated this sooner and we should have in all fairness to IGS Energy. After our original post we were able to get in touch with the correct people. IGS did take the time to listen to us and they did make everything right by us and our business. We would also like to thank Jenni Kovach for taking the time to contact about our problem. Not only did she contact us by phone but she drove up to our cafe in Bedford Ohio to meet us in person. We can honestly say after years of dealing with energy companies, not one except for IGS every really seemed to care about us or any issue we may be having. Therefore because of Jenni Kovach and the Team that IGS that worked hard to resolve our problem with exceptional customer service. We are giving IGS a 5 star rating only because yelp does not offer anymore stars then that. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ If it was possible to give a negative star rating we would give IGS Energy a - 5 stars. In October of 2015 Carmen L Reese came into our business and we signed up with IGS Energy for what we were told was a business electric rate. The rate turned out to be 7.9. A week later Carmen L. Reese returned with a new business card trying to sell us health and life insurance. We found this to be unprofessional since when we asked Miss Reese is she was still working for IGS. She explained that she was still working for IGS but she was using her recent contacts with IGS and business owners for her insurance business that she was starting. We told Carmen that we were not looking to purchase health or life insurance from her. After we told Carmen that we would not be purchasing insurance with her she never came back around. Then in June 2016 another Rep from IGS energy came into our cafe named Annette Malone-Grair. She asked if she could see our energy bills and we let her see them but explained that we were already with IGS. After she looked at our electric bill she explained that we were being charged the Home energy rate and that the Business rate was 6.25. She said that she would correct the problem. To give you better idea of the amount of money we are talking about, in June alone because of higher rate we were charged we paid an Extra $125.00. We asked to speak with Carmen's supervisor about this and Annette said that she would have him call us. That never happened. Bet that just came as a total surprise also, right? IGS even tried to send us a $100 early termination fee for changing the contract claiming that we ended the contract early. We have contact IGS several times in an attempt to resolve the overages that they charged us from Oct 2015 until June 2016. It's not like they can even say that they thought that the bill was going to a home since our business name is listed on the bill and both reps came into our cafe which looks nothing like a house. After months of being nice and talking with different people at IGS, the only thing that they do is to send Annette back out to our business to talk with us. Supervisors and managers have refused to contact us no matter how many times we request to hear from them. When we call IGS we usually hear from the customer service rep about how things will get straightened out. We have even been told that we would see a credit for the difference between the rates. Bet you would be totally surprised to hear that as of Oct 1 2016 nothing has happened. No contact from managers or supervisor and no credit for the overages either. You are simply better off to stay with your local energy company then to use a company like IGS or one of the other third party companies. Once you are signed up they don't care about you and their customer service is extremely lacking. We would be happy to change this review should IGS contact us and make things right. We have not asked for them to send us a check for the overages that we were charged but we have asked to receive a credit for the overages. read more

I'm from York Pennsylvania and have the same problems here. A guy from IGS was here three times bugging me and was going to come again last night but I stayed away for a couple hours. He said my electric company was going to raise our rate for next year but I just got a letter from them this morning that says it is going down and its a fixed rate for a year. He also said his rate is a little high but it will fall after the first year. How would he know that? That's why they only guarantee rates for a certain amount of time! There is a reason why they are the only electric supplier that actually sends people out to live in target areas among the people they are trying to sign up for their plan. This company is a scam!! Let me share my experience. I am a property manager of a complex and the came on to my property to try to solicit to my residents for their service. I asked them to leave and not come back as it is private property. They came back again. I called their corporate office and they told me I was off their list of places to visit. They came back 3 more times within a month, each different people. I called their corporate and regional offices again and once again, they told me I was off of their list to solicit to. Then this morning I find out they were here last night after my office was closed and I was home for the day. Any legitimate company would not operate this way. I had a nice young man named Fred come to my house today. I was skeptical from the get-go but heard him out and gave him the info he requested. Everything he said sounded legit so I tried real hard to believe him. While he was outside calling in my information I got online and started digging. I came across these reviews so I immediately cancelled the "not signing up for anything" that was going on. After he left I called PG&E to get the real scoop and it turns out that the price per therm savings that they were promising was not accurate. I would have actually been spending $.04 more per therm. Not a huge difference but definitely not a savings like they promised. My recommendation, don't fall for it. read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. A man in a yellow jacket came to my house introducing himself as a representative of IGS Energy and said that they are in partnership with my current energy provider who is AEP Ohio. He showed me some documentation from AEP and told me that because current bills were unusually high, AEP had partnered up his company IGS to try to save customers money. Like an idiot I believed him, I fell for this scam and was mislead into switching over energy providers, which is not what he told me was going on. I explicitly stated 2 times that I did not wish to change providers for neither gas or electric, and he assured me that I was not, but that I was simply getting a lower rate through a new program AEP and Columbia Gas had with IGS Energy. Looking back on it now, he distracted me from what was really going on by commenting on pictures in my living room and things around my house and establishing rapport with me so that I would let my guard down. During the confirmation phone call which he said was just legal mumbo jumbo to authorize them to lock in the new rate, he distracted me by drawing my attention to a Fuels Reward Program pamphlet. After doing some online research later that evening, I come to find that I was not the only one duped into switching over my energy provider through the same deceiving methods. Check the BBB and Yelp reviews. Because I refuse to accept this, I immediately made phone calls to AEP and Columbia gas to NOT cancel my services with them and I called IGS several times to confirm cancellation. As a matter of fact, I had to do it several times, because IGS gave me the run around. I even recorded the phone conversation confirming cancellation because I do not trust them. If you are in Columbus OH call 614-659-5902 to cancel and make sure to get confirmation numbers from both your gas and energy providers. The representative that came to my house had a badge on with the name "Blake", however he put "Timothy Kendrick" on the invoice I signed and gave me the phone number 614-207-4235. Do not make the same mistake I did and if you did, be sure to cancel within the first 3-7 days so that you do not suffer any penalties. I hope this was helpful, just trying to help people avoid the huge inconvenience I had to endure for the last 3 days calling here and there to get this squared away.. read more

IGS Energy showed up on my doorstep in Evanston, IL today claiming that the City of Evanston was switching electric and gas suppliers and they just needed my Nicor and ComED account numbers to enable the switch. Turns out that Evanston has a three year contract with Homefield and Nicor doesn't use a third party supplier. I asked the IGS reps for some written verification of this alleged change in supplers, and (surprise) they didn't have anything. I agree with others who have called IGS' tactics "underhanded and shady." Don't give them your account numbers. read more

One of their door to door scam artists showed up at my front door today. Tried to pass herself off as an implied representative of my actual natural gas provider. Then kept asking to see my gas and electric bill, and giving me scripted deflections to any of my questions about their billing practices. Likewise, she had no soliciting permit for my municipality. I had a very negative encounter with an IGS door-to-door salesperson today. After politely saying "I'm not interested" after he gave me his whole rundown, he proceeded to give me a confused look, saying "You shop around with everything else right? I don't understand why you don't want to do this. Why not shop around for energy savings?" Again, I said "I'm just not interested, but thank you". Once again, the puzzled look, as if I was completely offending him. In fact, I was very offended that he kept making me feel uncomfortable inching himself closer to my door and actually had the nerve to ask me if he could "stop by and bug me another time?" I said "No thanks, I'm good" ONCE AGAIN, and he continued to tell me he would stop by again. I was so close to calling the police, and I feel it would have been warranted as harassment in this situation. Even my daughter who was home with me felt extremely uncomfortable as she listened to it. Not okay. read more

Came to my door and rang the bell even though I had a "No Soliciting" sign up. Said he was not soliciting and that we were already customers. I was tired and ill and should have sent this person away. But I signed of for lower gas prices (hopefully) but the issue is he did not tell the truth and bullied his way in to a contract with me. There's a reason they have a 2 star rating. As a small business owner I thought I would've had a dedicated sales representative. Instead, when my 12 month contract was up I was unable to get into contact with my original "sales rep". This company is simply using a bait and switch sales concept, that will make you to sign a contract in order to collect their mark-up margin. Next time you sign with IGS Energy ask what THEIR margin is... You then may what to look at other Energy suppliers. Direct Energy is what we switched to... Other options are First Energy Solutions, ERG, or AEP Energy. Please small/medium sized business owners, DO YOUR RESEARCH. read more
