Well I was hoping some of the other reviews would have been blown out of proportion or exaggerated, but I was wrong. From the curb, it is in a brand new area, new subdivision and new building, so I had hi hopes. I saw that it was 7:30 and yet there were hardly any patrons. I was sat right away, but waited over 10 minutes to be acknowledged by a waitstaff member or greeted, while 2 waitresses stood at a nearby table flirting with a table of young oilfield workers. Once my waitress did arrive, she was relatively prompt on getting my milk and I had my order ready right away. The food came out relatively quick and tasted good. I originally started out this review at a 1 or 2 star but my waitress bailed them out once she knew inward there. Wouldn't be my first choice to return, but I think it is getting better compared to the other reviews I read. read more

Horrible service and they make you wait up to an hour and a half for your food and when they brought my food it was so cold I sent it back and was brought food in minutes but then the chicken I ordered was BURNT! I gave up and peeled away the burnt skin and ate what I could but that was nothing. Unlike other reviewers, I had a positive experience at this IHOP. We were so hungry after staying at Carlsbad Caverns till 10pm. IHOP is one of a few places open 24 hours in Carlsbad. BEWARE OF COCKROACHES!!! couple of of work for the pipe line an usually go to IHOP because the hours..needless to say we have been going all week there been a few mistakes during the week but nothing to complain about, holidays can be a little hectic. But if I can give them 0 starts I would! We had our son with us an while waiting for our food 2 cockroaches were going across the top of the bench. Waiter came out with our food we said no thanks because the cockroaches(live ones moving an showed him) then we all got up an left all he could say was ok have a good day. We've been there several times, as there are limited options in Carlsbad and IHOP offers* the children eat free thing. The food is meh... just like every other IHOP. However, this last time we went, the manager refused to honor the Kids Eat Free thing, even though we qualified for 1 child's meal. She didn't give a reason beyond "the register won't let me"... no apology, nothing. stupid manager bested by a machine? or horrible customer service? I say both. When I wrote an email of complaint to the IHOP website, I got a response in a few days from a rep in Lubbock saying he'd get back to me soon. Its now been 3 weeks.... and nothing. Screw these people. You can eat at home for cheaper and tastier. Or simply drive 4 miles north and hit Denny's. They're nice. Update: After sending some follow-up emails, I finally got a response. They sent me a gift certificate and let me know that some "significant management changes" had taken place in the last few weeks. Food was okay. Service was excellent. Bathrooms were disgusting. Is it just me or do all IHOP bathrooms lack care?

When we walked in the door we were greeted immediately and sat right away. I had high hopes some of the other crappy reviews wouldn't apply to us. Service was incredibly slow even though the place wasn't that busy. Husband had to wait to get his drink refilled (which he utterly detests). Waitress never came by to communicate a delay (which I utterly detest). Lol, ok, I take that back. The waitress came back to "check on us" to deliver our check. How nice of her. Food was decent (typical IHOP caliber), so it gets a 3-rating. Waitress and service gets a 1-rating, so I'm averaging it and giving a 2-rating overall. Bottom line: food is good but don't come here if you have somewhere else to be at a certain time. read more

Only reason I'm giving it one star is because I can't give it zero. Had to wait an hour and a half to get my to go food and it was cold when I got it. This place needs new management. Staff needs to be trained and operate in a much less lackadaisical manner. Tables are not bussed. Staff seems to be just standing around. This is a Thursday at 10:30 AM. Finally seated after the hostess tried twice to seat us at dirty tables when there were clearly clean ones across the isle. Two guys just standing around behind the front desk. Seated for 15 minutes before we saw a waitress. Restroom is a mess. Trash everywhere. Waiting for my pancakes. 35 minutes, no pancakes. Maybe they have no plates as the plates continue to sit on empty tables. The young waitress says "it's not my fault". 50 minutes and the pancakes arrive! They are of usual IHOP quality but semi-cold. Waiting for my check..... 15 minutes pass before my waitress appears in the dining area. They tell me that all of the checks have been erased and that I need to wait for the system to be rebooted. They can't do a hand ticket. Manager, who ought to be replaced, figures that we owe them $21.04. I give her the cash and leave. I should have read the previous reviews. This is the 3rd and last time I ever step foot in this place. 3time because it is next door the Fairfield Inn and it is easier than fighting the oil field traffic of Carlsbad. But they have no service. Short staffed, food takes forever to arrive and they honestly could care less. Probably going to walk out after waiting 50 min for the food to arrive. They served my husband rancid pot roast. The end The service was fine however. I told our server that the food we got was bad and he didn't charge us. Luckily my husband didn't get sick!!! We came at just before 10pm on a Saturday night and about 70% of the tables had dishes on them (as the his boy (man) sat out front on his phone) and the other 30% needed to be wiped. The hostess said she'd have it cleaned and sat as without menus, meanwhile seating the party behind us with menus! The bus boy (man) apologized for it being his first day as he half assed cleaned the table! Yeah right, first day my ass. The floor was dirty, everything was dirty! One would consider that IHOP is good in almost every location because the menu is the same. I wish I had read the reviews before we ate here. It is as bad as reported. My daughter's and I stopped in for Dinner. There were more flies then diners. The waitress was nice, but left us sitting and waiting when there wasn't anyone else at her tables. They didn't have the ingredients for our first 2 orders, so we had to change our orders. This is a reminder to myself to check the reviews and not have expectations about franchises. read more

On a recent visit, the staff appeared to be extremely unpleasant towards two customers who were mentally disabled. Long wait to get a seat and then another for our food. There were good waitress all around except for ours. We saw her twice from the time we sat down and then left. Before we got our food everyone was complaining about half cooked pancakes and hash browns. Woooooooow nelly, let me tell you what. I have never waited over an hour for 3 people to be served in an establishment that was practically empty!! And to top it off I ordered a PLAIN hamburger and they brought me one with everything on it! And I asked for no cheese on my eggs and they served mine with ETRA cheese. And to top it off, our food was cold. No excuse for this poor service. IHOPE no one ever makes the mistake of going here. So. So. So. So horrible. Just terrible. Only 5 tables in the restaurant, it took them 20 minutes to get a server to come take our order. It took forever to get our food & then they brought out only 3 of the 4 meals for our table. They acted like they were just going to go back and get the other plate. About 5 min later, they finally brought the 4th plate. The server who took our order blamed the other server for not timely taking our order & then blamed the cook for only getting 3 of 4 plates out. She then proceeded to bring the table behind ours' drink to us, dropped our ticket, & walked away. We asked the table behind us if it was their drink. They said it was & so we gave it to them. When they confronted the server, she denied doing it...more than once, saying "Nope." Another table on the other side of us got up and left because they sat forever without anyone taking their order. And my husband's first set of silverware had dried-on egg on the prongs. It was just the suckiest experience. The food was good, though. So, props to the cook. And the greeter was so sweet & is the ONLY reason we didn't sit for those 20 min without drinks. If you don't mind waiting or having an argumentative server, by all means, come on! I mean. I ordered a simple build your own sandwich with a Belgian waffle. The waffle's plate was hotter than the waffle itself, and my build your own breakfast sandwich only had 1 of the 2 ingredients I ordered. They explained that build your own really meant "Pick your topping" I explained, had you told me that when I ordered then I would have ordered the omelette. Pure joy in the form of pancakes, that was what I thought I'd find. But there was so much more! Burgers and sandwiches and deserts and more. The people who work here are some of the most pleasant but efficient late night help I've ever met. There was the mysterious case of the missing child. Not our child, but one of the families at another table let their kids go to the restroom and only two came back. It was chaos, as you can imagine, and the ensuing maelstrom if police and IHOP staff made for an entertaining, if not terrifying half hour. The small boy was found hiding under a nearby table just before my Belgian Dark Chocolate Mouse arrived. We will definitely be back for the food and fun! read more

Due to Carlsbad's limited options this is one of the few weekend choices. Service is spotty, fair one trip poor the next. The food is your basic IHOP standard. My family was ended up here at 10pm from a road trip. It was Thanksgiving night and the only option was this restaurant because it was the only place that was still open. We were very happy with our attentive waitress. The restaurant was clean, and they served the food fairly fast.
