The food here is amazing! What a hidden gem! I had the French toast and bacon with an over easy egg. The egg was cooked perfectly! It was way too much food for me so I shared with my friend. He said the French toast was light and fluffy. He really enjoyed his burrito too! I liked the fact that it was family owned and run. One of the gals told us a little bit of the history of the restored building. It used to be part of an amusement park. There were plans to tear down the building but a group managed to have it saved and restored. It was located right off of the canal! Wha an amazing view!

Since You Went Café After a full morning at Carlsbad Caverns, we just wanted something quick and easy for linner, and PJ&B's fit the bill. Opened since 2019, PJ&B's seems to be a popular spot for locals to grab some breakfast, coffee, and a quick, no frills lunch. The Good: *Fairly large menu that has a little bit of something for everyone. Including lots of New Mexican, Mexican, and American cuisines. *Green Chile Pork was delicious and had great flavor, albeit a touch on the salty side. *BBQ Beef Brisket served on the nachos was actually quite fantastic, and better than some actual restaurants where Q is their raison d'être. Smokey, beefy, and a nice bark made this quite the pleasure to eat. The rest of the nachos were whatever, but I'll take that brisket any day of the week. *Service by Brandy was great. She was patient and very helpful when it came to ordering, as she knew the menu backward and forwards. *Take this with a grain of salt since we're from Cali, but the prices were quite inexpensive, at least by our standards. *Great location near the Pecos River, marina, and some parks The Meh: *They have a mind-bogglingly huge burrito selection. I mean, literally, an entire sheet dedicated to every possible burrito combination in the world. 0_o *As I mentioned earlier, most of the dishes were a bit on the salty side, but nothing inedibley so. The Ugly: *All dishes are served on throw-away dishes and silverware. I understand why they do it, but it's not the most environmentally conscious way to go about things. TLDR: Nice laid-back joint to catch a quick, tasty bite with friendly service and a great location.

We were fortunate that Mariachis were playing when we arrived. They graciously sang Las Mananitas (traditional birthday song) to my Grandma, making a celebratory day all the more special! I had beef fajitas because I was opting for a healthier meal. It was a little greasy but very flavorful. If you're up for Mexican food, just go all out like my family did (see pics). The chips and salsa were good which is a key indicator for a Mexican joint. Oh and my grandma was treated to a complimentary ice cream treat which was very thoughtful!

Despite the name 'Rojas Mexican Grill & Restaurant', the new name is 'La Juanita Mexican Cuisine & Grill.' Parking is easy. Plenty of spaces around the restaurant. I even saw some work trucks parked around. Do not be fooled by the appearance and go inside. You pretty much sit anywhere, and the waitress will come by with menus. Complimentary crisps chips and salsa were good. FOOD: Special Steak (Topped with bacon, mushroom, cheese, with Charro beans, chili toreado and grilled onions, 2/5): I am not sure why my friend ordered a steak here. It was tough. I only tried a bite of it with the beans. Beans didn't impress me either. Enchilada Plate (Three Red or Green Enchiladas served with re-fried beans and rice): You can also add meat for $1 extra. My friend devoured this! I didn't even try a bite but seemed like other enchilada plates. Pollo en Mole Plate (Served with re-fried beans and rice, 3/5): This was just OK. Mole was mildly lacking flavor and was more on the salty side. I have tried much better mole in other Mexican restaurants. Ask for a green sauce to eat this dish with because it makes it so much better than without it. Juanita Tacos (Beef, fresh onion, cilantro, avocado, cheese, grilled onions, and jalapeno, 5/5): 4 pieces of tacos. You can opt to make it come with rice and beans for extra. BUT IT IS SO GOOD. Authentic tacos, order this if you want them. The only bad thing is that they layer so much food on the top that the tortilla will gradually get soggy. Friends and I agreed this was the best dish so far. Fried Ice Cream (4/5): I cannot believe the waitress asked if our table wanted only one order before this dessert arrived. It is massive! Definitely shareable between 3-4 people. I wish there wasn't so much whip cream on top, for I literally scooped it right off three times to get to the ice cream. Definitely order if you want something cold. Rounded up for wonderful service! Drinks were filled in a timely manner. She would come by every now and ask if we needed anything. Afterwards, you walk to the cashier in the left of the restaurant to pay for your meal. Cash and card are accepted. I would definitely come back to try the other tacos they offer. Come try a real Mexican restaurant in Carlsbad!

I had marked these GPS coordinates months ago, making a note that Rene Anthony's was notable the highest-rated restaurant on the long drive between Dallas and Tularosa, NM. But I began to doubt myself as glimpses through the thick fog revealed no civilization, nothing but empty fields. Was there really a restaurant out here open at 5:12 a.m. or did my typically methodical road trip research contain an error? And suddenly, there it was, an oasis of an eatery standing alone in an ordinary building on the south side of the highway surrounded by nothingness. I strolled into the small dining room filled with a dozen truckers waking up to a vivid discussion about the NFL. A city slicker seemingly out of place, I was welcomed with open arms and placed my dine-in order at the register. The only breakfast option was a lengthy list of breakfast burritos, a dish I don't normally enjoy. But this was different. Chef Anthony Sanchez is making magic here. *** decent battered fish tacos for lunch ***…read more As soon as I walked in on December 26, 2024, I decided to order takeout instead of dining in. There was this really annoying beeping noise I assume from their alarm system. How does this not hurt everyone else's ears?! I was greeted as soon as I walked in by a very nice young lady who got my order in quickly. It was about a 10 minute wait but the dining room wasn't busy, so she let me sit in a booth. The tilapia was not the freshest fish I've ever had, but we're in the middle of the desert so go figure. There were a total of four street-sized taco with a side of plain Spanish rice and refried beans ($15.99). All three of the sauces were really good. With the fish taco, the avocado sauce was probably the best. My rice was slightly undercooked. There was free parking, but their lot is a little weird right now with half of it paved and half still caliche gravel from when this was the Iron Skillet restaurant. I love the rock 'n' roll decor and the cleanliness, but that beeping has to go. A mixed rock playlist instead straight RHCP would be appreciated. TIP CLOSED ON MONDAYS. They marched us straight to some random back room that looked filthy and forgotten. Dirty walls, dead flies sitting on the window sills, dusty air vents directly over our table, worn-out floors and furniture... the whole place felt grimy. On the way to our table we were also walked past a nasty smelling dishwashing area, which really set the tone for the experience. Now the food. The kids got chicken fettuccine Alfredo, and somehow it managed to be both lava hot and completely flavorless at the same time. The chicken tasted like it lost a fight with the microwave. The meatloaf? I genuinely have no idea what they served me. It looked like cafeteria mystery meat drowned in tomato puree. Honestly offensive. I ordered the green chile cheeseburger with fries thinking maybe they'd at least get that right. Nope. The green chile had zero spice, zero flavor, zero reason to exist. The burger itself was forgettable at best. And the best part? The bill was nearly $100. For dirty vents, dead flies, bland food, and mystery meat. Would I come back? Not even if someone else was paying.
