I ordered my food from the yelp app, first time! I picked up myself and no customers were there, but I had to wait an hour to pick up, so that was upsetting. The staff that helped me was good, I ordered a 30 Oz cold brew that wasn't ready when I got there and had to wait an additional 10 minutes for it. It was horrible. I didn't check my order, shame on me. I ordered the lemon blueberry ricotta pancakes and I didn't get them. I had plain semi burnt pancakes instead. I hate to begin 2023 with a less than favorable review, however I must be true to what is. A morning visit to my local IHOP made me sad. I'll get to that momentarily... The restaurant was quite crowded for the 2nd day of the year (many folks are still off work in observance of the holiday). Despite the masses, we were seated immediately with the same warm welcome I am used to. Our waitress was kind enough, pleasantries were exchanged and our drink order was taken. We placed our food order shortly after and it was almost an hour before our cool/cold food came. I sat there unsatisfied, but did not complain as I know that just about every business on the planet is extremely short-staffed and many struggle to remain open. Smh! After a while the waitress confirmed that one cook was absent. He called in and said he'd be there in an hour. He was needed at 6:00am (if not before) not 4 hours later. So disheartening when there is a restaurant FULL of hungry customers. My eggs, meat, hot chocolate, grits and pancake were all lousy. The pancake was so bad the butter refused to melt and the pancake which was supposed to have been French toast. The decaf and ice were the best part of the meal. I couldn't be mad, just sad at what I continue to see at many restaurants, not just less expensive ones either. Universally things are the same. Hostesses turn waitresses, Managers turn servers and the list goes on... doing whatever it takes for the establishment to function and remain open. This is what it's all about now and although disappointing I commend the teamwork. FYI to you fellow Yelpers...continue to dine out, but keep in mind that things have changed. Be PRE-prepared that there may be long(er) waits for seating and service. Also, know that on any given day there may be someone that's NOT the cook/chef preparing your food. Our waitress was remorseful and apologized for something that clearly wasn't her fault nor in her control. She was THERE doing her best and doing her part. We needed a a private booth that would fit our whole family of 8(mostly kids) and the server here I forgot his name was so kind and generous enough to give us the party room. Not only was it a great relief that our kids weren't squished next to each other but the restaurant was clean and the customer service was impressive. Our food didn't take too long to come and it was nice and hot! I loved the chicken quesadilla and my chicken salad. We enjoyed our meal along with the awesome customer service everyone showed in this restaurant during our dine. Keep looking! Our visit may have been on the 31st of Dec., but it was at 0945. Not a busy time. The dining room was not even half full, yet everyone was seated on the same side of the facility and crowded together. Our waitress seemed to be serviving each and every table, but that can't be true because we saw other wait staff (or so we thought). We weren't hungry anymore..so there's that. We paid the bill, left a minimal (leftover change) tip and left. I emailed IHOP and told them if our experience. We recieved a generic apology, excuses then were asked to come again. Wth?! This IHOP functions pretty efficiently. I have eaten here twice. The first time I ate here was late at night, and we had drunk rednecks sitting behind us babbling loudly about nothing and dropping the f-bomb like it was their primary language. A manager quickly came over and reminded them it was a family restaurant and to watch the language. She was professional and VERY firm. Which was great for me. I bartend for a living and had already been dealing with mouthy drunks all night. Both visits were about the same. The service was fast and friendly, the food came out quickly, everything was on point from the kitchen, and I never had to ask for anything, because the servers were on top of their game. I have been to several IHOPs around the city and this one is average. I just completed my 5th visit here to give it a fair rating. I will say that the first two times the service was extremely good. Food and coffee were nice and hot, the waitress was super friendly and everything flowed nicely. The 3rd and 4th time were disappointing. Though there weren't a lot of people there, the service seemed to take forever. We must have spent an hour from start to finish and it was very annoying. This last time that I went the service was fairly good. The food was good too. I appreciate it when the waiter/waitress fills up drinks and brings napkins, additional sides without having to ask. We have been to IHOP on several occasions. When this location at the legends in Kansas City Kansas opened it it was decent but it has gone downhill and tonight (8was the final straw. We went to the location and waited over 17 minutes for someone to come to the table and ask us for our drink order and finally we just gave up and went next-door to Culver's. In fact, when we arrived my husband asked the lady outside smoking, who worked for the company, how she was doing and she said she would be doing better if she could just close the store altogether and everyone would just go home.
