I wish I would've known about this little deli sooner. It's in a corner of Strawberry Hill that I don't frequent but I had heard about this spot and wanted to check it out. It's an a super old building and I would classify it as a dive bar. Street parking is available. They do have bar seat, some indoor seating, and a fairly large outdoor patio area. Everything was clean and the service was excellent and everyone was friendly. They offer beer, wine, and soft drinks. I stuck with beer because they have Guinness on tap and I won't pass that up. Prices for drinks are extremely reasonable. The sandwiches are fantastic. I went with Bob's Italian sub: salami, ham, turkey, lettuce, tomato, onion, American and provolone cheese, dressing, on a steamed Italian roll. I opt for double the meat which made the sandwich a whopping 10 ounces. Did I need to double it? No, but I like a giant sandwich and I have no regrets. The sandwich itself was delicious, I liked the combination and I would definitely order it again and highly recommend it. With the double meat the price was $12.95. All of the prices were well under what you normally see and is a welcome reprieve from $20 burgers and sandwiches without sides. They offer regular deli type sides but I went for a bag of pickles because who doesn't love a bag of pickles? They have other sandwich options including vegetarian and build your own. A friend told us about this place and recommended their Reuben Sandwich, so today we stopped for lunch. First, what a nice place. A small bar & restaurant. The bar was full, of what looked like regulars, and the tables were half filled. Nice, friendly kind of place. The Yelp summary describes this as an Old-school bar with a nostalgic vibe - I have to say that is the perfect description I got the Reuben, which was only $8.95. Kind of hard to find a place for a sandwich for under $10. Today, the Reuben was the special, which meant I basically got a free side. Went with the chips, they were good. This was a really good Reuben sandwich. Everything just went together perfectly. It tasted delicious. Lots of corn beef and the cheese was melted perfectly. I love these Brent's Stein corned Reuben sandwich. It is also reasonably priced. You most assuredly get your moneys worth. The staff is friendly it is a great place for lunch. They have other sandwiches as well I just feel if and when I go there I have to order the Reuben. I feel like if I don't I will wish that I had so Reuben sandwich it is but the other sandwiches look good too. You can set inside or outside or you can get your food to go. I ate at the location earlier this week. Service was good. It was a late lunch and we were a party of 4. You seated yourself and there were a couple of people at the bar and maybe a few people at another table inside when we arrived. The woman from the bar took shortly after we sat down. I originally ordered the Muffaletta and was excited to try it since I moved here from NOLA a couple of years back but it's pre-made and the bread can't be toasted which is my preference so I changed to the KC Rueben which is $12.95 for the sandwich with no side. I chose not to add a side for extra cost. I also requested it with no 100O island dressing because I do not like it. It was good. The burnt ends were flavorful and I like that the slaw is vinegar based and not overly sweet. It can on tasted deli sz bread cut in half. I wasn't very hungry so I only ate half and saved the other half. It is not a great sandwich to save because it was not great as a leftover. Too squishy. There's not a large amount of burnt ends and with a small tip and tax (I just got water), I spent about $17. I think I will probably try something else next time. I drank the Yakimaniac ($5.50 as of 12/2025) and it's always a great beer. food: Bob's Italian sub ($7.45) was one of the best renditions of that classic that I've ever enjoyed. My friend had the Reuben (also $7.45) and reported it was equally excellent. Note the menu lists the Reuben as the #2 best seller. Nancy shared beer is the #1 best seller. My band, RELAAY, recently went on tour and played a show at Hillsider's in Kansas City. Just across the street from the venue was a sandwich shop the locals swore by, so I had to check it out. Inside, it felt like stepping into a small community hub, where big groups gathered around tables, laughing, talking, and playing cards. I had some work to catch up on, so I grabbed a spot on the patio instead. It turned out to be perfect: quiet enough to focus, with a TV nearby so I could still catch the football game. I was staying in the area on business and I love to try local places. I found Breit's on Yelp and their sandwiches were highly rated. Since they were close by my hotel, I decided to check them out. I struck up a conversation with another patron and before I knew it, I was enjoying some great conversation with my fellow patron and the bartenders. I wasn't there long... maybe an hour and a half, but by the time I left there, I was feeling like a local- the staff could not have been nicer! The Reuben sandwich was great, the bread was nicely toasted and the pastrami was tender and flavorful, and it came with chips. Pair that with a couple of nice cold beers, and I was a happy camper. My friend and I are retired and are filling our time "In Quest Of The Best Sandwiches in Kansas City". Our first stop was Breit's Deli in Kansas City, Kansas. After enjoying their signature Reuben sandwich, the bar for "best Sandwich" is already set high. It was hot, flavorful and very value-priced. I'm not normally a Reuben fan, mainly because I'm not a fan of sauerkraut. But, whatever variety they used, was absolutely great. It enhanced the flavors of the sandwich VS. overpowering it. The side of cole slaw was lightly vinegar based and, I would guess, home-made. Again, excellent. We sat at the bar to enjoy our lunch and the staff couldn't have been nicer. They were engaging and interested in our sandwich quest, even offering other recommendations to go for future visits. I look forward to returning the Breit's after we get a couple other KC sandwich secret gems, quite literally, under our belts. read more
