I was soooo excited to check out this new location, especially beause it's more convenient than driving farther out to IKEA. I had fun walking through the showroom, checking out the room setups, and grabbing more things for home projects that I probably don't need haha. I definitely ended up browsing way longer than planned. There are a few things to know before you go. This location doesn't have a huge inventory, so don't expect to find everything you see online or at the larger IKEA stores. It seems like they don't stock them often either. The restaurant is also VERY small. You order your food through a kiosk and then pick it up, but if you visit during a busy time, be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes for your food. No free meals for kids here. Also, if you are returning an item, make sure to check in through the IKEA app or your email so you can get in the queue. Otherwise, the return line get really long. I am happy to have an IKEA so close by, and it's still a fun place to walk around. Just plan ahead, especially if you are going for food or customer service. read more

This was my first time visiting an IKEA and it was an interesting experience. I didn't realize that there were arrows on the floor that direct you through the store. It seemed like there was a bit of a learning curve with items that you could put directly in your cart from the displays vs. ordering and picking up at the very end. I thought the cafe inside was a cute touch. I don't think many people know that you can actually sit down and eat a meal inside the store. We tried the meatballs to see what all the excitement was about and found them to be very tasty! The service was very slow considering they have a limited menu and the items are prepared on a hot bar, but we enjoyed our experience. I checked this place out on opening day. I was went around midday to avoid the crowds, but it was still pretty busy, especially the restaurant area. It's definitely a smaller version of an Ikea, but they still carry most of the popular items at this location. I will say the returns area wasn't a great experience. Before you could be helped with a return, you had to check in and wait to be called. The wait itself wasn't long, but the staff didn't seems particularly friendly or well informed about their return process. read more

Look, I'm a big IKEA fan and have been shopping at IKEA for decades. But the Chantilly IKEA is an unmitigated disaster. The first omen for our visit was noticing that unlike other IKEAs there's not a big blue and yellow IKEA sign rising above the store. And too, this IKEA's exterior is not painted blue like other IKEAs. This IKEA inherited the old Expo Center. I previously had been to cat and home improvement shows in this building. IKEA skimped horribly on repurposing this property. For example, in the men's room, light fixture covers were broken, and the latches and coat hooks in the stalls were broken off. Mind you, this IKEA has only been in business a few weeks. The aisles are zig-zaggy and narrow. The flow through the store is terrible. It just cannot handle the hordes of shoppers. And then even though check-out lines are long, they keep some of the self-check stations closed. Lastly, because this IKEA is small, inventory is limited. Aside from this location's shortcomings, though I love IKEA's fun designs and colors, product quality has declined over the years. Examples include floor lamps, beds and cutting boards. Some have referred to IKEA as a particle board emporium. We were so disappointed that we cut our visit short and headed to the IKEA in Woodbridge, which is a palace in comparison. Realistically, if IKEA wants a worthy presence in Fairfax County, it needs to abandon this property and build from scratch elsewhere. read more

The food court is located near the entrance, although it's fairly small as well. One thing I appreciated was that staff members were stationed throughout the store, making it easy to ask where to find specific items. They also accept Apple Pay, which made checkout quick and convenient. If you're expecting a large IKEA like some of the bigger locations, you might be a little disappointed since this store is only one level. The food court also has a limited menu. Came on a Friday during lunch (granted, it's 4th of July weekend) and the dining area was pretty crowded. It took about 1 hour for us to get our food. It was also pretty difficult to get seating given it was peak lunch time. I heard it's pretty bad on the weekends. We got the 12 piece meatballs, mac and cheese and lingonberry soda. Can't beat the price. The hot dog, sweedish meat balls, and marinated salmon was decent for the price. Thot dog was dry. However, the meatballs and the salmon were my favorite and for me, it did feel more fresh than the other times I have gone. Very excited to have a closer IKEA but this could be dangerous to our wallets. My friend and I went to the grand opening and I won the raffle and got a bucket hat, was one of the first 100 people in line so got a $40 gift card, and played planko in store and got a medium reusable bag. Due to it being the first day, the cafe was pretty backed up (took around 35 minutes for our food). When we were ordering, they were also out of the meatballs so I went with the plant based option, froyo cup (which tasted more like their soft serve), and fountain drink. Came on grand opening day 6/18/26! Unfortunately missed some of the giveaways which were at 8am but huge turnout for a Thursday. But at least was able to snag a free bag from their freebie table. They also had Mouse chocolate, cookies, and flower pots. Finally a full sized IKEA in Fairfax county. They have a food court and everything. Plenty of self service stations and cashiers. Can still be a little overwelming to navigate but there are arrows on the pathway towards the checkouts and several shortcuts to the checkout areas within various sections. Easily the worst IKEA I have ever been to. Limited supplies and completely false store quantities. Came by for some storage bins which were listed as 27 in stock. Found the bins but the ones on the shelf were all zipped tied to which I was told they were display only. No bins to be seen that I could buy. They checked the back, no bins there either. Why display 7 bins you can't sell? Wasted time and gas to come here. read more

So glad this new location is here, much closer to us! While this location is not as large, we felt it still showcased ideas and we were able to get what we needed. I think they have less things in stock here so we have to pick it up in a few days. Worth it to not have to drive 30 extra minutes! The staff was very friendly. We had help while ordering a pax unit with shelves. The food area is much smaller than most but wasn't as crowded so it was perfect to grab an ice cream cone. There was a soft opening recently, and we were able to checkout the space - as other IKEAS, they had everything from storage and organization, furniture, rugs & home textiles, kitchen & appliances, kitchenware, etc.! Everything was well-organized, clearly labeled, and the 'pathways' were clear and allowed you move through easily. Staff were readily available on site to direct you to certain sections of specific items you were looking for. The lines were long, but the staff were moving us along efficiently. I had a very disappointing experience at IKEA today. I ordered the Swedish meatballs, and while eating, I found what appeared to be a bug in my food. I immediately stopped eating and took a photo. I reported the issue to the staff. While they eventually refunded my meal, the refund process was more difficult and time-consuming than it should have been. I expected a quicker response and more concern for a serious food safety issue. This place has some of the worst customer service I've experienced. Customers were standing in line waiting to return or exchange furniture, while the manager and several employees were chatting instead of helping. Some employees were even on their phones rather than assisting customers. The service was extremely slow, unprofessional, and it seemed like the staff simply didn't care about the customers waiting. I also felt that some customers were treated differently, which left me with the impression of unfair or discriminatory behavior. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. PURE CHAOS. There is only 1 assisted check out line and everything else is self checkout. Parking was about the same as you'd get at Costco so not that big of a deal. My issue was the sheer amount of people in a small IKEA. I've got no idea what the rules are but holy cow this is a fire hazard waiting to happen. Now before you come at me about the people... the isles are very small and with the volume of customers to be in Chantilly this was just a poorly laid out store. If you really need something might as well come here but most things are out of stock or on display and then you have to order it online in store. Probably won't be coming to this one again and will just make the drive to Maryland or Woodbridge. read more

Worst IKEA I've ever been to. Trip was like a nightmare. From the 45min wait for food at the cafeteria, to having to eat with our trays on the store shelves because they have about 10% of the seating that they need, to the miserable mass of people (none of whom looked happy to be there) shuffling through the store, bumping into each other, to the narrow walkways, to the kids running around messing up the displays, to the super unhelpful "item found on showroom floor" but nowhere to be found despite claims of being in stock, to the point where you realize that the store itself is half the size or less than most Ikea's, and finally the long long line to the register. Don't forget the parking lot with its tight spaces! You'd have to pay me quite a bit to come back. If I want to go to an IKEA, I'd rather drive to Maryland or Wood bridge locations read more

This location is more like a "Diet IKEA"; meaning while it has a show room, marketplace & cafe; it lacks a large warehouse like a full sized location (like Potomac Mills). All that said, Im still glad there is another location in DMV. Would love to see them expand the building and add the warehouse for products one day. Plenty of space in its massive oversized parking lot. But for what it is, it's still great to have. read more
