The cafe is a large space, well lit and bright; I always sit by the windows and stare at the turnpike. It's self serve except for the entrees, service was pretty quick. When I was there last with my husband, the food - to tell the truth - was subpar. Last week, however, it was almost really good. I had some sort of green chile chicken with rice and bean and plantains. It was my birthday month and I had a slice of chocolate mousse cake. The chicken was delicious. How do you go to IKEA and not stop and get some Swedish meatballs?!? Strategically located at the end of your shopping maze. The IKEA restaurant, or better said cafeteria, has a variety of items including meatloaf, chicken, and of course swedish meatballs (both vegan and non vegan options). The meatballs which come with two sides, typically mash potatoes and peas are usually the popular choice. My wife opted for the chicken dish with a side of mixed veggies and sweet plantains because of course it's a Miami IKEA. I went with the traditional meatballs. I feel the meals are always at a good price point but unfortunately they needed salt. We had to laugh as the sweet plantains made every bite better. It was just a flavor bomb compared to everything else. We laughed as Swedish meets Latin food and boom...flavor country. If you ever saw that classic Bambi meets Godzilla, you would understand how I felt about Swedish food meets Latin Fried Plantains. The desserts are very good. The chocolate cake was super moist and that Almond Caramel Cake was amazing. Their soda options are unique and are low on sugar. Worth a try. This place is just like a big warehouse of inspiration. We literally came today just to get ideas for our house. Walked through the different spaces, dreamt and got a couple of items that we've been looking everywhere for (like that awkward space in a corner cabinet? They have a pull out lazy Susan to fix it.). Then if you're hungry (which is likely since the place is huge) you can head over to their restaurant/café on the top floor. We had the seafood croissant sandwich which was DELICIOUS! My only point here would be that there were no sodas available except coke today... they usually have a fun variety of flavors. If you're looking for something lighter like ice cream and hot dogs, that's available at the bottom floor right after the cashiers. Finally, come with patience. I take out a star for the ridiculous need to go through the entire store to be able to exit... once you're in from the top floor, it's a one way street until the end. Well I am extremely disappointed with Ikea's restaurant. Although the eating area was clean and well stocked the food left much to desire. The Swedish meatballs dish, which is their signature dish was missing the white creamy sauce and the raspberry jam. Instead of the Swedish meatball sauce, we were given some type of au jus sauce that was kind of salty yet bland. When I asked about the raspberry jam I was told they ran out of the big bags so I could purchase a bottle of this jam downstairs if I really wanted it. Swedish, meatball dish, no creamy sauce for the meatballs, the mashed potatoes had no salt, completely bland, and so were the peas. At almost $15 a dish this was terrible. The last time we were here was about a month ago, and they didn't even have the Swedish meatballs. They said they had run out. I chose not to write a review at that time wondering how do you run out of your signature dish, but this time I am writing a review this is not acceptable, and their service has definitely fallen from the upscale service we know them to have. I don't know why I always end up hungry when I'm at IKEA. It's not like their food is really great... Just think about it for one moment, meatballs are the best food for IKEA to serve to all their customers around the world. They can mass-produce at one facility and then just keep them frozen forever, ship them with the furniture and market them as their famous food when you go shopping. Absolutely top-notch five star restaurant within a store. So let's say first, that we're not comparing this with a restaurant on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach, we are comparing it with restaurants inside mega stores. Usually you just find junk food in those. Now two bucks for a plate of "Swedish American Breakfast" can't be beat. The food was hot and the servers were very friendly. The side of bacon was A SIDE OF BACON it was huge. Flavorful and good value. Now the selection for lunch and other meals is also something That got my attention. If you haven't been to Ikea, schedule a trip and be sure to visit the restaurant. Even at 3pm, the place was pretty full. Staff was adequate and entries were all still fresh. I got chicken florentine, mashed potatoes, and steamed vegetables-healthy, filling, and only 340 calories. This time I skipped the delicious almond cake in favor of the $1 frozen yogurt downstairs at 140 calories. Part of the IKEA fun is marveling at its organization and efficiency, and the restaurant is no exception. It's also fun to gawk at the enormously full trays of others. Every parents' dreams included the first thing you see when you step in: free high school sized lockers to store your stuff in; children's play area (like a babysitting site filled with things for kids to do; throughout the store are restrooms strategically placed so that you never have to leave that area; another well planned restaurant of Swedish style food (for your convenience, there are hooks to hold your bags while you eat). Every section of the store is equipped with a showroom to suit all things you may be interested in seeing, but again, its SUPER organized. Towards the end of that section, you are greeted with a mini selection of things they have on that floor. At the end of all the sections, there is a warehouse of detailed things you may have forgotten about so they make sure you get one more round of seeing all of their things. As you get closer to the checkout line, you meet outdoor sets and boxes of things you can collect. Pretty awesome indeed. I LUV IKEA ... but worst ... made my MUM an IKEA LOVER TOO! They have a pretty good variety of food to choose from, including prepared salads, sandwiches, and desserts. My usual orders are Swedish meatballs, veggie meatballs, kids chicken fingers, and the must have veggie cakes! If you haven't tried the veggie cakes, you must! Downsides - It's IKEA so there will be a small village of people surrounding you at all times. In addition, on multiple occasions the bistro has only had one side open, which means the line of people waiting for the hot food will spill out of the area. We have been to the IKEA in Brooklyn and knew we were in for a lot of walking so we looked for the cafe to make sure we had energy for shopping and sure enough we found the restaurant, right by the entrance IKEA knows if you fuel up on carbs your likely to spend more time there therefore buy more too! surprisingly the food was pretty good the Bistro had all our favorites, mac and cheese, fries, veggie/potato pattie, almond tart, veggie meatball plate and elderberry juice and last but not least a cappuccino and latte. The sauce they use to drizzle the salmon is super tasty and the texture of the salmon is perfect "melt in your mouth". Not only that, I love the chicken sandwich on ciabatta bread. They need to staff better with more cashiers and serving staff when it gets busy during the post holiday week. A lot of people were there today, January 2, at 1:30 pm and they had only 1 cashier plus only 1 side of the serving area going. The line was about 15 minutes long to wait for food and paying. In addition there were not enough tray carts for everyone and it can be hard for little kids to carry their trays with plates and glasses that may shatter if dropped... They had ran out of garlic toast with no sign of replacing it any time soon. The food my family ate was delicious as usual. And there was plenty of seating for the crowds. However it's clear that the managers need to anticipate better staffing for the days when kids are off school and large family groups are going to be in there to eat. read more

So we had to go to Ikea and decided to eat there. Usually the swedish meatballs are good enough and the price is right. We tried the stuffed chicken. My wife woke up this morning swollen from the preservatives. She is sensitive to MSG and such. The food was not great this time. Beans were overcooked, chicken overcooked, soup was not great. At the coffee wasn't awful this time. Usually it's burn but no, ok. So if you go to Ikea and eat avoid the chicken soup, stuffed chicken and string beans.
