The IKEA has really helped the area around it become more built up, and while it's a furniture store, it's almost like a tourist attraction at the same time. It's such a massive place, and they have literally everything here. There's a grocery area and a restaurant too, where you can try their famous Swedish meatballs. I was introduced to ikea years ago in Chicago and was sad to know I was moving where no IKEA was! But now I am happy... Well, I was always happy just a little more now. Not sure if it's the big sized warehouse, the people, the furniture or the food but I just like going to IKEA. I enjoy that you can actually see a set up of different rooms of your house or office. Gives you ideas and have your blood flowing of what you want and/or need. I think IKEA is great for College students, start up home and those on a budget. Not to say no one else can shop there. Some of the items do appear to be cheap but I have to say I purchased a kitchen table and 4 chairs 8 years ago and it's still standing. After putting your creativity (or theirs) together, you'll come out with something nice. I hate shopping alone so I always seem to have someone with me when I go. This last trip was just to grab a desk and food. Ended up eating that delicious triple chocolate cake ((BEWARE)) it's to DIE for! Grabbing a desk, flatware and getting spinned around in the aisle at the self serve station while sitting on the cart. Don't think it was safe or allowed but it was fun! At the end of the day.... I purchased an in home visit for Kitchen Measurement & Design. It is refundable. I paid $199.00 for the visit. I decided to cancel. I called the number they provided for cancellation. First attempt was in the morning, it took 36 minutes for them to pickup. The person said he cancelled the order and went to get me a confirmation number. HE NEVER RETURNED. I called again this evening and was kept on line for 42 minutes and I gave up. I will try again in the morning Making the appointment took 2 minutes but trying to cancel the appointment will take you MUCH longer. read more

My first time setting foot inside an IKEA was yesterday (my sister, who is an IKEA member, invited me as a guest for the pre-opening/practice celebration.). For several months, I heard so many people get excited about St. Louis finally getting an IKEA. This includes people who call themselves 'anti big-box stores', so you know it had to be a big deal. Despite of it all, I still wondered what made some Swedish furniture/goods store better than anything. What was all the hype about? Well, I got to find out four days before it officially opened to the public. As you step inside from the outdoor parking lot, you'll be entering a big room: parking garage in front, escalators (exit) on right and the entering escalators on the left. You'll be greeted 'Hello!' in Swedish. And then you are on to the Marketplace! Maps, shopping lists and writing utensils are usually provided. It didn't take me long to realize that the place was like a maze. If I wanted to go to a certain department, I would have to cross some other depts to get there. It didn't really sit well with me briefly but I got over it. Plus its great to see what they have anyway. Just about everything they have is low priced....actually, I don't want to go as far as calling it 'cheap', but 'reasonably priced'. I was never told how long the furniture and stuff lasts, but I trust that if its cared for well, then its mighty useful. After the marketplace, you'll end up in a huge warehouse-like room. And then, finally the checkout. There are two restaurants and a kids playroom, and the restaurant by the check-out lanes has one that sells inexpensive snacks. Frozen yogurt cones and cinnamon rolls for a $1? Yes please! 2 hot-dog combo and a sodie for $2? Absolutely. This just shows why people love this place; again, for the reasonable prices. My conclusion? IKEA definitely lives up to the hype. I hope that this place helps revive St. Louis' economy as it brings more people into the city. I will admit that I'm not too crazy about its location (at the crossroads of Vandeventer and Forest Park Dr), but you never know as only time will tell. Robberies are known to happen in that part of town, so definitely lock up your car! (I don't take cameras seriously...) Allow yourself plenty of time to look around; I would average it 45-60 minutes if you are curiously shopping! read more

IKEA's products are cute like Target but it costs about as much as WalMart. It makes me happy -- mostly. I'd never been to an IKEA until the beginning of October. Now I've been twice. The store is a bit daunting and it's still really crowded on the weekends, but now I know better than to arrive at 1 p.m. on a Saturday as I did on my second visit. I spent about 2 hours there on my first visit, but unless I'm making some big decisions or purchases, I don't think it'll take me longer than an hour on future visits. That's good, because every time I return from IKEA, about 5 hours later I want to go back and get this or that. Yes, they have nearly everything at IKEA, but not necessarily the best range in a product or the greatest quality, so you have to be careful. I bought a magnifying makeup mirror for only $20 and was so excited! Well, the light isn't very strong and it only magnifies to 3x, which I hadn't realized isn't very much. I've already ordered and received a 7x mirror with a stronger light from Amazon, and it's also larger than IKEA's, for a few dollars more than IKEA's. I like the bathroom rug and various jars I purchased. They have great details on candles. RTA furniture is not my style. I don't buy particleboard. I'm at antiques stores or Carol House because I like nice things. (If you think that's dorky, you should hear me at a Wehrenberg. Wehrenberg.) IKEA's metal shelving, however, is so me. They have a final sale section near the cash registers. I'll be checking that out every time. IKEA is a welcome addition to my STL shopping experience. Ikea is such a fun place to imagine your dream home and make it come true for way less than what you could imagine. Honestly, it's a good thing my home is mostly done as far as furnishings go because had I come here while still planning on the decor, I would have had many sleepless nights thinking of all the fub ways to decorate the house and a sickly, light wallet. But seriously, who doesn't like purchasing a dish towel for 79 cents?! Or a cutting board for less than $2? Perhaps a plastic container for all your recycled plastic bags from the grocery store for also less than $2? Holy Swedish meatballs! Even I can't resist that. Walking around Ikea is simply amazing to me. There are literally all sorts of knick knacks you can buy and adorn your home with for such low, low prices. The topmost level of the Ikea building is the showroom. Until I've visited Ikea, I honestly did not know that I really want an awesome closet space with all the drawers and random spaces I probably will never use. Or that my shoes can have their own dedicated shelves. Thanks to a visit to their showroom, I am now unsatisfied with the current residence of my hundreds of pairs of shoes hanging out in bins like hobos. Also, I believe my yearly bonus have found a new purpose! Once you're done with the showroom and you start to feel a little rumble in your stomach, then head on over to their restaurant and grab a bite to eat. They have a wide selection of hot menu items to choose from including some Swedish meatballs or really cheap breakfast if you happen to be in early enough. They also have salads, sandwiches, cakes in several different flavors, drinks, and small snacks. It is cafeteria style. You walk with your tray through the line and grab your drinks, salads, snacks or desserts then if you are getting an entree or just a side of Swedish meatballs perhaps, you go to where the hot food items are and an associate with plate your food items for you. Then you proceed to checkout and grab a random table. The place is spacious enough that even on a busy Sunday, around lunchtime we were able to get a table away from where the large families with their noisy children were seated. The main level is the market place where you can purchase actual things. If you're looking for it, they will most likely have it! Kitchenware? Plenty of them. Dinnerware? Insane selection! Office needs? Uhm... Yeah, aisles upon aisles of them. Furniture? Yes and yes, they have them. As long as you're not looking for very high quality item such as those you pay thousands of dollars for (for 1 piece of furniture), I'm sure you can find anything you want to furnish your home with at Ikea. I've purchased cutting boards, several ceramic bowls for my dog to use because she's sophisticated like that and they were only 99 cents each, a little decorative indoor plant, a fake potted flower for decorations, some really cheap dish towels I can throw away and replace when starts to look not so great, some cheap machine washable rugs, a plastic holder for my recyclable bags and a few other knick knacks. Shopping at Ikea is truly enjoyable. So if you haven't done so already, check this place out! You never know what you will find! read more

The furniture selection is great! We bought everything we needed for our living room. The dinning area set up and service could be improved. Only one register open out of four with a very long line. People getting lost an old women ended up back in the kitchen area. They couldn't give us straws for drinks etc. The food was good we had chicken fingers and a slice of pie. Over all a good experience but the food area needs some better management for traffic flow and help. read more

Listen- don't judge me...but this was my VERY FIRST Ikea experience and I am all the way here for it! Sign me up to randomly walk through and 'test drive' furniture at other locations! Neat, clean, inspiring for every square footage... it's an HGTV fans dream! I didn't purchase anything (this time), but there was so much to digest, and so much to like! I'm unsure if the sofa/living/family room options would work for me because they're stylized so low to the ground (and I understand the brand and why)... But I'd definitely purchase bedroom, kitchen options, accents, etc. You simply can't beat the price. It was nice to enjoy a furniture store that just 'gets it.' Parking was convenient with both indoor (parking garage) and outdoor options, the cafe was nice, and the store layout made sense. Stay tuned for follow-up reviews at other locations. Moral of the story: Ikea gets my vote, and I'll likely progress from window shopper to purchaser. read more

I recently went to the IKEA store in St. Louis, MO. Great place! I am remodeling my kitchen and created a complete design while there. I have that design and it's file number. Now, due the the Virus closings. And with all the stores closed, I have found it impossible to place an order on the phone or on line. The toll free number is shut down. I was able to speak to customer service yesterday day and we set up a time for them to call me this morning.. THEY DID NOT CALL! And they are not answering their published number. Shopping with my High School age daughter while she carried a clip board with grid paper for a room design. She was confronted several times by store employees saying they don't allow scavenger hunts. We explained that she was just browsing while trying to lay out a room on paper. The employees were rude unwelcoming and just plain unpleasant. They also kept following her around like a criminal. Too bad you insulted a young woman with cash in her pocket and 5 bedroom home. The employees act as if speaking to them even if your just asking for the location of something is such a bother. Every single employee I spoke with seemed so annoyed that I had a question. Drive two hours to get it and 1) the directions for the click & pickup desk were completely inaccurate. For starters, there isn't one. Employees didn't know of it either. So I went to the furniture pickup point and the lady was rude AF. Basically told me to wait for an email to say the table is ready for pickup. There are 11 in the store! My first experience with Ikea was in the Denver area so when they built one in St Louis we were eager to explore. Its amazing how much stuff they have and how much they are able to put into their showroom. There's a cafeteria, a kids watch room and more. They have a lot of staples and many of their setups do not change. If you go all the time you will see a lot of the same stuff. If you go every so often you might see stuff that's different. If you have an Ikea card, you get free coffee. They use to have it where its in a to-go cup and you can walk with it. They've now changed their ways and you can only get it in the cafeteria. Not very appealing anymore on that aspect, I hope they change it back to the original way. Check it out, you'll find yourself going back...and back! read more

As a life-long SAAB and Volvo owners the store has always had a special place in my heart. Swedish clean lines and utilitarianism at its best. Coupled with all the kitchen gadgets how can you miss? Over the years, we have lived near both Philly locations and Baltimore too. Glad to see one made it to the gateway city. It's IKEA. what's not to love? On our most recent visit, we ate in the restaurant. Our family of four enjoyed Swedish meatballs, a BBQ sandwich, salad, kids chicken fingers, and kids pasta. One of the kids did not care for the mashed potatoes, but otherwise we were pleased with the food and the price. As for the store, the maze of the showroom is always fun, but be super careful while strolling through the marketplace. It can be quite dangerous (for you and your wallet) when items jump off of the shelf and into your shopping cart. One of the items we wanted from the warehouse required assistance from a team member because it was available in the pick up section after purchase. The wait wasn't too bad, maybe 5-10 minutes, even on a Saturday afternoon. read more

Can't believe I haven't reviewed this! I've been shopping Ikea for almost 30 years in the US and abroad. IKEA is a godsend, with a range of prices that track with the item's quality, and so, so many items! At this location, some of the things I've purchased are a sink, curtains, beds, shelves, chairs, rugs, light fixtures, dishes, and flatware. My architect neighbor loves the kitchen cabinets, although my building contractor says to stay away from them. I stayed away. It is sometimes difficult to find an employee if you need help or have a question, though, and return policies are more strict than I think they should be. I always check out the As-Is section. (I'm currently typing this on an As-Is dining table that is 21 years old.) And the meatballs are a deal! read more

I've been waiting to experience IKEA. I was soo excited from pulling in the parking lot and being able to grab a great spot, to walking in the door and riding up the escalator. My first stop was to be the food court, so I could try those meatballs so many people rave about. Our first stop was the mini food stand where the cinnamon rolls are made, of course we had to try one for a $1. The BF really liked it. I prefer Cinnabon. We were informed that the food court was another level up. Unfortunately the rows and rows of food cases weren't filled with a variety of items, actually they were mainly empty. It worked out for me because I would have tried some of everthing in the cases if it looked good. We were in luck though to try the meatball plate and since the chicken tenders looks pretty good, we were able to snab some of them along with a slice of swedish apple cake. Of course the food prices are a steal, very affordable for a meal. The meatballs weren't bad, I guess I would get a plate again if I were hungry, seriously hungry. I could easily skip the food court again unless we went for brekfast so I could try that. I really enjoyed walking around each area and playing in the room displays, YES I said playing in the room displays. I love how they setup each room to give you ideas for your own home. Ohhh wait, what I really love are their prices and the selection of items!!! The bathroom sinks and options were great, the prices for the shower curtains were a steal. I grabbed a quality shower curtain for $9.99. I paid the same $9.99 at Bed Bath & Beyond for cheap plastic. And of course I loved all the kitchen items since the kitchen is my spot. I would definately go back for certain items like bathroom accessories and kitchen utensils, etc. I do not think we would buy any furniture there though. The items look nice but various chairs, tables, beds, etc upon closer inspection seemed cheap and uncomfortabe. read more

You certainly took my money for the order and I don't have my product I ordered. You can't get ahold of anyone by their number or by email. What a joke ! I guess I will be reporting them to the BBB. This store is definitely NOT user-friendly for the handicapped or senior citizens. While they have wheelchairs, which is fine if you have somebody to push you around in it, they do not have motorized scooters like most other stores have available. The first time I visited and asked about them, I was told that the powers that be at IKEA have concerns that someone might drive one down the stairs. As a senior with arthritis in my hips and back, their concrete floors are a real pain to walk on for any length of time. I would give them one star, except for the fact that they do have a wonderful cafeteria. I usually stop in for Swedish meatballs for lunch when I'm in the neighborhood. Also I like the little market place on the first floor. Otherwise, I don't bother with IKEA. read more

IKEA! The land where dreams come true...kind of. I went to Ikea for the first time this past Sunday evening. My girlfriend recently moved to a new place so I went with her to help her look for something (i.e. desk, bookshelf, stools, lamps, office chair) etc. She was looking for budget friendly items so, of course, Ikea was perfect. I act like I know I'm talking about, but this was my first time visiting one. My first impression is that I'm truly blown away by how efficient, large and well staged everything us. They have really fined tuned this whole consumerism thing. Second, yes a lot of stuff at Ikea looks cheap but there are a ton of items that are great deals and you can hardly tell the difference from a higher priced item elsewhere. The staff was all super friendly and smiley despite being the end of their miserable opening weekend. I ended up getting a some decorations and a houseplant despite not looking for anything in particular. Maybe one day I'll come back and try the food ;) read more

It's so exciting to have an Ikea in St. Louis, especially since it's actually IN TOWN, not a 45 minute drive to the burbs (that's how it is in Cincinnati)! I even decided to check out the grand opening - a band played and there were all sorts of big-wigs there to make speeches. I got a $10 gift card when I entered and began my exploration. I'm really excited to go back with my husband so we can continue to live our real life romantic comedy and play house in all the example apartments, kitchens and bathrooms. But just going on my own, I enjoy the kitchen sections and clearance more than anything. I ended up using my gift card on a set of new glasses that I simply love! I feel like this place is full of surprises! Be prepared to look at everything and find things you didn't expect. I haven't eaten at an Ikea in years, but I remember going for breakfast once and really enjoying their french toast sticks - it was like being in elementary school again! Very glad to have this store in our area! Thanks to the big blue & yellow box company for deciding that STL was a good place to open a store. There are numerous metropolitan areas that will wait years to get their own Ikea. Stopped by on a weekday afternoon - certainly a much better idea than going during a weekend shortly after their opening. Even on a Tuesday afternoon there were still thousands of people in the place. Maybe once things settle down somewhat an obvious best time to shop there will become evident. We really like their tableware. We've had our current stuff for a while now and it was time to replace some of it due to wear and the fact that we would like to have more flatware. Accomplished both on today's visit. We also needed a better way to organize some things in our kitchen and solved that problem today as well. Sometime in the next year we will remodel our laundry room and plan to get the cabinets from Ikea as well. Left with a couple of packages of cinnamon rolls that proceeded to smell up my car and make me droll a bit while driving home with them in the vehicle. This place has everything. Prices are very reasonable. Everything is coordinated by the rooms. Parking lot & the store is huge, it almost seems like you're walking into theme park. You almost need to take two to three trips to see everything in detail. This is not "in and out" store it takes you through all 26 sections before exiting. Love the store. read more

I have been trying for over a week to order night stands for my nephew's new apartment before he moves on June 1st. We would like delivery, but we understand the covid situation so we are prepared to pick it up in Schaumburg, IL.....but.... the online order system states to order the next day because of all orders are to the max and when I call the 888-888-4532 phone number, a message comes up to hold for question and I am disconnected (over 5 times). What is going on? Are there employees there to place orders, are their inventory transportation problems, because otherwise this is not an easy solution to help someone and also be supportive for all the IKEA employees. read more
