Taking the street car to near the cemeteries and walking to City Park, we stopped at Ike's Snowballs, a small stand with a large outdoor patio. For just a few dollars, they sell snowballs (snow cones) in dozens of flavors from cream-based to other flavors like cherry and peach. My seven-year-old daughter loved the strawberry. We came here for some snowballs. We went to another place down the street was all the doors were closed. Lucky for us Ike's was open. The customer service was great here. The snow balls are okay. I usually have to ask for more syrup because some of the ice is still not covered. the customer service is probably the worse. You're never greeted when you walk up to order. She just stares at you waiting for you to order. They also never give you any napkins even if there's syrup pouring down the sides of the cup, and when I'm asking for some it's as if it's a burden. The cashier caught an attitude w me after I explained that there was sour spray right there on the menu. She told me "she just started working there". So another worker walks over to help her put the topping on the bill and tells her just charge them 75¢. So I asked them why was it 75¢ instead of 25¢ like on the menu and I pointed at it. A different lady annoyingly said to just take it off the bill. I don't understand what all the hostility was but all I wanted was a decent snowball w condensed milk & one w sour spray for the correct price ofc. This place was a blessing in disguise! I was having an outside meal and being almost 7 months pregnant the heat was starting to get to me. We decided to drive by since it was so close to where we were. They were open!! The line was a bit long but it didn't take them long to get it cleared out. They had some great flavor choices. I was delighted to see they had snowballs for dogs and I happened to have my dog. I got king cake and condensed milk. It was delicious. The milk wasn't overly thick either. There was plenty juice. I like Ike's! David and I are trying different snowball stands around town and he suggested this one that I had never heard of. Ike's is right by the Burger King/MoPho strip mall by City Park and there was no crowd when we were here early on a Friday evening. There's a lot of seating area with tables and they have a nice selection of different snowball flavors and ice cream and also offer boudin, for some reason. I got a wedding cake snowball and David got pralines and cream. I have to say, I really liked the fact that they flood the ice with syrup. It was practically spilling out of the cup, and when it comes to syrup, you can't over do it. The ice was nice and fine and the flavor was great. The stand is right by a bus stop and a nice "New Orleans' highlight was when a bus driver parked the bus at the stop, hopped out and treated herself to some much earned ice cream. Upon the urging of my wife, who is a self proclaimed snowball connisseur, I stopped at Ike's Snowballs this afternoon to kill her craving. Located at 520 City Park Avenue, this newly constructed business resides next to the strip mall that houses Burger King and Subway. Being on the extreme Northern Border of Mid City, this location will prove perfect for people residing in Lakeview (South), the Bayou Saint John area and for Delgado students. The facilities are spotless inside and there is plently of availble tables outside to sit down and enjoy your snowball. This will prove especially helpful if you have kids who are prone to spilling things in the car. My wife had a combo flavor (chocolate & coconut), which almost tasted like a frozen "Alomond Joy". The chocolate was creamy, but not too strong as to be overpowering. The coconut was also good without being overly sweet. The real treat was the consistency of the ice. Although I could not see if their ice machine was a "Snow Wizard", I'd bet that it is. It was almost velvety smooth and had no lumps at all, even when she got to the very bottom of the cup. I'm giving this place 4 stars for now, as it is a little too new to give a perfect rating. If you're in the Mid-City or Lakeview area and are looking for a new taste, give 'em a try. read more

I was having lunch next door at MoPho and my out of town dining companions asked about Ike's. I explained the VAST superiority of a New Orleans snoball to the mundane widely available snocone. And of course, then I had to have one. I was super excited to see cucumber lime as a flavor so that's what I got, after I was allowed a small sample to check it out. Their sugar free flavors are good, no nasty after taste. They also sell some food items and even have two snowball flavors for your pups! I do understand that their closing time was six, but good customer service would allow for the line to finish ordering and make sure no one else gets in the line. I hesitantly decided to try this place out and am very glad that I did. Although it wouldn't be my first option, I would gladly go back. Soft ice, sweet succulent flavors and reasonable prices. First off do not park in the parking lot next to this place. They do not have rights to the lot and Burger King had a man come boot everyone. There is nothing to warn patrons and the obnoxious young man working there refused to ask his manager if they had access when customers were trying to fight these predatory boots. Will never be back. This place has some pretty good snowballs. It isn't my favorite in town, but for its spot and convenience it's great. After basically any activity in City Park we stop here after for a refreshing snowball. We always get smalls because the serving is generous and we can never even finish it all. They have a lot of flavors, friendly staff, and they don't skimp on the syrup. In fact they'll give you more syrup free of charge. Next time you're at city park, stop here after. Excellent snowballs! The ice is like velvet and has no lumps at all. Also, they are quite generous with the syrup, so these are very juicy snowballs. I've had the strawberry and the watermelon, both quite good. The place is spotless, there is plenty of seating, and the employees are very nice. Pretty good snowballs. Not the awesomest snowballs ever but pretty good. The ice could be smoother/finer. They're right across from delgado and during class time they tend to be busy. Staff is nice. They'll warn you not to park in burger kings parking lot which seriously DO NOT park there! The towing company watches the lot and is located right around the corner. I find their menu lacking. They have 8 cream flavors and 4 sugar free. They do "doggie snowballs" which I like to call "kitty snowballs". The clone cats like the chicken flavor but were not fans of the roast beef. The outdoor seating is nice and some of it is under the shade of a tree. City park is within walking distance (2 blocks maybe?) so you can grab your 'balls and hang out in the shade of the oaks. Mommy notes: Have to ask for extra napkins. Only 4 clear flavors. Will put snowballs into larger cups. No kidde size ( extra small). Open year round. read more
