Food was decent, but nothing too exciting, I had an appetizer- the hot antipasto- for an entree, and though it sounded good (sauteed shrimp, broccolli and mushrooms along with ricotta-stuffed eggplant) the result didn't live up to expectations- the veggies had a good flavor, but were a bit overcooked, as was the eggplant and the shrimp was a little tough. Perhaps a more traditional entree would have been better. The chocolate gelato for desert was pretty tasty. The waitstaff was friendly, but not particularly personable. read more

I love Italian food and eat it often. My favorite is Il Basilico. The service is attentive without being overbearing, the atmosphere is friendly, and the food is consistently wonderful. The thing I like is that the menu changes as the seasons change, and although you can order the traditional Americanized Italian entrees people are used to, the owner consistently offers new items that you just can't get anywhere else, that have a homemade taste and feel to them. And as a BYOB restaurant, the price is always reasonable. Highly recommended. read more

Formerly named "Pasta Blitz". I LOVE this place. The people are wonderful, the service is great, the food is fantastic, and all that at a good price. Great selection of specialty pizzas - amazing! I want to go more to try everything on the menu. The lasagne is even better than my Italian grandmothers. I often get carry-out here as a quick lunch - the pizza-by-the-slice is great. I lived in Italy for many years so I am a snob when it comes to Italian food. I had a hard time finding "authentic" Italian cuisine until I went to Il Basilico in Timonium. This quaint cozy trattoria fit the bill! The ambiance is nice, it feels like a typical Italian trattoria setting. The owners and staff are friendly, but most of all the food is DELICIOUS! There is everything for everyone from pizza, pasta, vegetarian and gluten free dishes. Not to mention the freshly made homemade desserts. My favorites are the paccheri pasta with seafood, calamari and the various choices of pizza which is a rare find. It is also BYOB. The food has a mix of Italian American, Authentic Italian and Chef style creative dishes. All in all I would easily give this place 5 stars and highly recommend it. read more

I love this place. The food is so good--every time I visit my parents, we go here. I've only tried pasta dishes (their gluten free pasta is excellent), but I've eaten here with friends who have ordered everything from soup to seafood to tiramisu, and everything is always delicious. Well, my first review is a dud. It's for this place. Not enough adjectives in the dictionary to describe how awful and woeful this place was. I came in and asked the man at the counter, if any pizzas had just come out of the oven, yes he replied, cheese or pepperoni. I ordered a slice of pepperoni to go, literally not even a minute later I take a bite and it is cold, tough, and tasteless. This is Italian Food? Supposed to be NY-Slice? I don't get it and I won't be back. Also, I am glad I didn't order more food off of the menu. I wonder how this place manages to stay in business with such lousy food and poor service? My wife and I had dinner there on a Saturday evening. We've been there before and thought the food was good. We arrived at 6pm. We ordered a relatively expensive dinner including 1 appetizer, 2 salads and 2 main courses. After waiting a good 45 minutes, we received the salads and appetizer at the same time. (Why did it take 45 minutes to receive a simple Caesar salad?) 3 minutes later we received the main course. So, now we all of our food on the table at once. If we take time to eat the salad and appetizer, the main course will get cold so we opted to eat the appetizer and take the salad home. I asked to speak to the manager who was actually the owner. We waited and waited and finally the "assistant" manager came over and agreed that there were problems in the kitchen. He pleaded with us to give them another chance but did not offer any compensation for the poor service. I asked why the owner didn't come to our table. She said that she was too busy. I find the owner's disregard as arrogant and insulting. Her action just made the situation worse. It makes me wonder if she is as clueless about customer service as those owners on the TV show Kitchen Nightmares. While the food was pretty good, the service was so atrocious that we won't be going back. By the way, this place is very noisy and there were a lot screaming kids there. NOT a place to take a date. We used to frequent and love this restaurant, but it has just become a frustrating experience. Last night was probably the last straw for us. We arrived around 6:40pm. The place was maybe 60% full. There was one booth left, that we couldn't have b/c it was reserved even though nobody every sat in it. We were seated at a very wobbly table. We ordered wings as an app and they took around 25 mins to receive. Waitress was attentive but not friendly at all. I ordered a salad that comes with Parm Cheese. I asked for goat cheese instead of parm - was told no problem. Salad came out and I took a bite - bleh! It was not goat cheese, but instead I thought it was blue cheese - gross. Flagged down the waitress and told her the issue. She replied with a shocked look and said, "Let me go ask them what they put on it". She came back a few mins later and said, "It's not blue cheese, it's gorgonzola". She had a small cup with her, with a tablespoon amount of goat cheese in it. As if she expected me to eat the salad covered in gorgonzola and I guess if I wanted to, I could mix in the miniscule amount of goat cheese. I explained to her that I could not eat the salad with gorgonzola as it was making me gag and definitely was not what I ordered. She seemed annoyed by this and said, "Ok, I'll have them make you a new one". Around 8 mins later a new salad is brought to me. With NO cheese on it. I guess they figured since I was already brought a tablespoon of goat cheese, that was good enough. I felt as though I was being punished for their mistakes. She didn't apologize about the issue until she handed us our check - like, "Oh crap. I probably should have apologized earlier b/c it might affect my tip, so I'll apologize now". No thanks. We have had issues like this the past 3 or 4 times we have eaten there. I'm not sure what happened to their service and kitchen in the past year, but we're finished with them. read more

The bread is good. Cute that they bring it in bags. I guess this means it is a popular item. The food is okay/good. GIven the limited local Italian family owned restaurants I suppose this is okay/good. I use have a rule to help me determine good Italian restaurants. I order Lasagna, other items are usually better, but this item usually tells me if the food is fresh and/or they know how to prepare it. This was a slight disappointment to me. Not sure what is was exactly, but it was not great- even when they recommended it to me. My sons food was good as was my wife's. The service was not great. I hope our waitress was new, because she did not know much. our plates kept piling up and no one wanted to take them away. Even when we finished our appetizers (and the plates were empty) they brought the entrees and would not take away the appetizer plates even when we piled them up on the edge of the table. It was humorous. While we were there we saw tons of people coming in to do take out. I think this must be what they are good at, because the service was not great. Even the owner came by, looked at our bottle of wine, but never spoke with us or asked us how our meal was, or talked with us. All he wanted to do was look at our wine. If I could give this place a negative, I would. We were there with my daughter, her newborn and her realtor. Coming from out of state, this was hardly a nice welcome for her. In all the hassle of tending the baby, she left her expensive sunglasses behind. I called that evening and yes, our server found them, described them right down to the designer name. He assured us he would hold them for us in our name. The next morning, I sent the realtor over to pick them up since we all live away. She was told there weren't any. She came again and tried a different name, no glasses. I returned this past weekend and one of the other servers told the manager that she remembered my call to the original server as well as the realtors' visits. She knew exactly what they were and named them. No glasses. Twice I went with no luck. Called back when that server was on duty. He gave me a song and dance that he'd given them to the manager who speaks no english. Really? Said the manager didn't know what sunglasses were. These were $100 glasses. No effort was made to give us remuneration since we were assured they had them and we called immediately and had someone come to retrieve them. I don't know if this kid pocketed them or they tossed them out, but someone's lying here. I can't trust a place with such unscrupulous people. who knows what they'd do to your food. The food was nothing to write home about, just adequate, salad was terrible. I wouldn't return regardless. but now? I hope no one else does either. This is new ownership. they ought to rethink that one. read more
