We stopped into DeSantis for a bite to eat and sat outside as my daughter had her dog with her. Thankfully, there was a nice breeze, so we were not hot at all. My husband and son-in-law both enjoyed a 10-inch pepperoni pizza. I had a 10-inch tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese pizza. All of our pizzas were freshly prepared and delicious. My daughter savored her Greek salad, which was a garden salad with kalamata olives, tomatoes, feta cheese, and green peppers with their house made Mediterranean dressing. Visited DeSantis some years ago with a friend. Went a couple days ago as plan B as our plan A was packed solid with a long wait thanks to a recent Baltimore visit by a big time pizza influencer. My buddy and I weren't out for pizza, although 'Mr One Bite' visited Matthew's of Highlandtown- which DeSantis' offers as well. We were out for cheesesteaks!! DeSantis was packed but we were quickly seated. Server was attentive and personable. My buddy ordered cheesesteaks with provolone. Mine was minus "hots." I did order fries in lieu of Utz chips for just $2 more - a good deal! The subs were very good. No complaints at all! DeSantis's is a great neighborhood joint the entire metro area can enjoy. Okay, looking for a pizza place that is not part of a franchise and not Baccos in Abingdon. A colleague recommended Desantis and stated this is his favorite pizza spot. I was encouraged because of the crowd, but the again it was a Friday evening. I ordered a 10in pizza with regitano and mozzarella cheese. Price wise it is reasonable, but the taste was non existent! The DeSantis family has a wonderful establishment. Extensive menu and true Italian dishes. They have a wonderful Italian menu and delicious dishes prepared fresh as ordered.. I recommend having reservations to this fine Italian restaurant with nice ambience and fine table service. My favorite is the Mathew's pizza daily special along with a salad. Tough deal to beat. They were generous too in taking an add for a local recreational sports team helping to sponsor them years ago. Nice to have a restaurant with adequate parking in a safe area. DeSantis is a welcome part of the community and I recommend you visit and sample their menu. One additional note, they also have one of the very best Italian Cold Cut Subs. I visited Desantis with a good friend of mine, who happened to be in the neighborhood. It was an impromptu dinner date, but I had seen so many folks going in & out of the restaurant the many times I went to the gym, that I figured it would be a cool place we could get a bite to eat. Upon entry, you could tell this was the place the locals came to meet, eat and have an afternoon drink with friends. There's two sides: the bar side and the dining side. The bar side was packed and jumping! The dining side was much calmer and that's where one of the hostesses eventually sat us, which was perfect. Now the only reason why this review isn't five stars is because of the way we *weren't* greeted when we first came in. It was indeed crowded and there were a few folks waiting to be seated. My friend and I literally stood in front of the hostess stand and patiently waited for others that came in before us to be taken care of. However, there was no "Hello" or "How many in your party?" Nothing. Some people came in after us and the hostess gave a friendly hello to them, and that's when my friend and I looked at each other. I was a bit annoyed at the interaction. A third hostess came up and my friend stepped forward and said "Hi, hello!," and that's when we were finally acknowledged. After we were seated, things immediately lightened up and got much better. Other waitress was very nice and attentive. We started out with two cocktails called The Relaxer. I can't remember all that was included in that drink, but there was some peach schnapps in there. I'm kind of a lightweight, so I definitely felt...relaxed after drinking half my drink. It was refreshing and sweet. We also had mozzarella sticks for an appetizer and those sticks were delicious! I've had some fancy-schmancy fried mozzarella before and wasn't impressed, but these mozzarella sticks were perfectly fried. The marinara sauce that came with them tasted and looked homemade. After drinks and apps, my friend ordered a pepperoni pizza and I ordered a cheesesteak sub with fries. When the food came out, we immediately dug in. She throughly enjoyed her pizza. It looked well baked and the toppings looked fresh. My cheesesteak and fries were some of the BEST I've had in a while! The fries were fresh and crispy! I love fries and it was just the perfect quantity- not too little and not too much to where it would've been wasteful. My sandwich was soooo good! The steak was well seasoned and the roll was perfectly toasted. I honestly was very impressed with the food quality. I looked at other dishes that other patrons were getting and could tell that the cooks in the back enjoyed what they did, or at least it tasted like they did. I can tell when a person doesn't put love into the food- it's sloppily put together, lacks flavor and tastes like they simply didn't care. But not Desantis. The food is on point! I thought we'd were done, but the party continued with dessert. We both ordered the Reese's peanut butter and chocolate cheesecake. This slice of decadence so delicious and rich. The crust was so perfect and the cheesecake part was thick and yummy. I wish I had a slice right now! Besides the initial encounter, I give Desantis a thumbs up. I most likely will visit after an evening workout at the gym. The food is great and it seems like a cool neighborhood hangout. Side note: I wanted to mention how considerate the owner(s) were when constructing this place. It's so extremely sound proof that you can barely hear a peep outside the doors of the restaurant! First visit to Desantis was this week, and had lunch. Ordered special, 8" pizza and salad. OMG! It was amazing. Salad was large with fresh, crisp greens, onions, cucumber, pepperoncini, etc. I selected the Mediterranean salad dressing with feta and it was perfect. They have wide range of dressings to choose. Then the pizza came out - wow! While I wanted to immediately grab a bite, gave it few moments. It filled the plate. I could tell the crust was crispy, it had lots of sauce and bubbly cheese. Adore pizza shops with shakers, so grabbed them for hots and extra cheese. Reached the age to know burning the roof of mouth with hot cheese ruins the meal and so not worth it. The pizza was perfect, crisp crust, warm tasty sauce and smooth savory cheese. It is the type of place to go back to because I want to try other items on menu to see if they are ALL Great. I met a friend for lunch and we were seated right away. The place was busy but not crowded, atmosphere was casual and comfortable with attentive but not overbearing service. We got the pizza and salad lunch special which was perfect, fresh green salad with pepper parm dressing, and a personal size cheese pizza. My friend got his pizza with sausage which was good too. Stopped by here to get a cheesesteak sub to go, it took about 10 min to get it, no problem. The young lady at the counter was very nice and very busy.I could not help but notice it was full of customers on both sides, the bar and dining room. They were doing a huge business for a Monday afternoon. I have heard their pizzas are a very popular item. So, I arrived home with the carry out menu and gave my husband his cheesesteak sub, made from Ribeyes, one of the most flavorful meats. To our surprise, it was loaded with burnt meat. Yuk. He said never mind when I wanted to call and let them know. He managed to eat half of it, just added ketchup. The rest will be thrown out. It's such a waste of $12. We live too far away to take it back, just not practical. They have daily specials posted, so you can select or order off the menu. We might give another try here, a big maybe, at best. read more

A family friend recommended this place saying it was her favorite pizza. We both live in Harford Co. Went Saturday night February 28th around 7ish & it was poppin'. A lot of "locals". Had to wait 15-20 min which wasn't bad at all. The front of house staff was super young but they were doing great. Desantis only has 10" pizzas so keep that in mind. Our party of 4 had 2 pepperoni & bacon & pie with pepperoni, onion, green pepper, & mushrooms (for me). We also got an order of fries. Honestly? The best pizza on this side of Baltimore Co. And yes, even over places like Pizza Johns. Dough & crust is perfect. My wife & son's girlfriend got small Caesar salads too which they loved (shaved parmesan). Was a lil on the expensive side as our bill came to $85 (including 4 sodas). Our waitress Alissa was very good. She cleared plates, kept our drinks full, & did all the things a great server does. Have seen and passed De Santi's many times as they are next to another place we really like. So after reading positive reviews about Matthew's pizza decided to see what all the buzz was about. There is a Matthew's pizza in Baltimore which it looks like is where this style of pizza originated. I would say the crust is in-between Thin Crust & Deep Dish. They were busy on a Sunday afternoon and we ordered a few pies for pick up to try. One thing to note-the large is a 10 inch pizza and the small (8 inch) is only available during lunch hours. We ordered a build your own, the Roman pie (added sausage), Popeye & Olive (added Broccoli) & Meatlover's. We enjoyed the Roman Pie & Popeye & Olive the most. Meatlover's was very good. Our ground beef, jalapeño and onion would have been better if the beef was seasoned. Definitely go with both cheeses (Reginato & Mozzarella!) Looks like this neighborhood spot has other Italian specialities but clear the pizza is quite popular. A bit pricey considering the sizes of the pizza but understandable given the Baltimore specialty pie. Interesting packing for the pies as they were wrapped in thick sandwich type paper vs boxed. I love Desantis, but for a very different reason tonight. I was choking and two customers (one just happened to be a nurse) came immediately and performed the heimlich, also a retired firefighter with very good advice. It was very SCARY, I am thankful these people came forward! I brought home the rest of my pizza to enjoy later. Thank you Desantis for being so very helpful and concerned. I am feeling very thankful! I love this place. I grew up within walking distance down by Gunpowder State Park, and my family has been coming here since they opened many years ago. It's true per other reviews, the bar area is typically full of baby boomers during main hours, but it is usually hopping with 20-somethings late night on weekends. The dining room is always a mix of generations enjoying their daily specials, such as pasta night and wing night. The pizza is unlike any other, unless you've been to the original Matthew's in Highlandtown. My personal fave is the grated cheese, and I always ask for extra sauce to dip the crunchy, chewy crust. Pastas are delicious, my preference is the baked penne or chicken parmesan. Word to the wise, if you take home leftovers of the cream/butter based pastas, they break down and become very oily when re-heated. Best to eat it all there if you can manage it. I also love their house salad, it is always very cold and crisp and fresh. The house dressing is great, a red wine vinaigrette with cheese that comes on the side. Subs have been hit or miss. The DBF enjoyed a chicken cheesesteak, but it seems the chicken parmesan sub is made with the tenders from the appetizers (at least that's how it looks). Meh, I've had better. The Italian cold cut was terrific, but in the essence of fairness I tried it after being out on the town for several hours, so take that for what it's worth. I have a friend who swears by the meatball sub, it's what he orders every time he dines here. The down side here is that the place is always packed and they don't take reservations. The young host staff (young as in high school young) are not always focused, sometimes choosing to finish a conversation or to check in on their cellphone as opposed to attending to the guests that have walked in the door. They have apparently been trained not to give wait times for those waiting; instead, they will only tell you the number of parties ahead of you. That can be frustrating because you really don't have any idea how long you will be waiting, and there have been some very long waits, believe you me. In general this neighborhood spot is one of my staples. I crave their wings and salad on a regular basis. If you haven't stopped in, you owe it to yourself to give them a try! read more

Had reservations for a party of five and was seated in the back of the dining room at a four person table. It was a really tight squeeze but we made it work after seeing there were no other tables available. We started off with the buffalo wings, Desantis' fries, house salad, and Caesar salad. Entrees were 2 both cheeses pizza, a traditional mozzarella pizza, Buffalo chicken wrap, and the eastern shore pasta. Pizza came out piping hot, so hot it took a few minutes before we were able to take a bite. The pasta was flavorful and huge so half of it ended up being boxed up for leftovers. We have been going to Desantis for years but this last time we went on Saturday 3/18 it was a terrible experience. They were busy but it was mid day so it wasn't packed. We were seated on the right side of the restaurant. We were given menus and then for the next 20 or so minutes no one came to even ask if we wanted drinks. There were 7 empty tables on that side of the restaurant. Some other people came in after us and were waited on and we still sat there. Finally we decided to leave. My husband told the hostess that no one came to our table and we were completely ignored. She said she would go get a waitress but by then he just wanted to leave. My last visit for pizza was a bad experience. Carryout pizza was undercooked and soggy, (boxes have no vents to let the steam out) also on one of the 2 pizza there were greenish blue spots around the outside edge of the soggy crust. This was my first bad experience, so I decided to call the restaurant to provide some feedback. I made this call out of concern and not to try to get a free replacement pizza. By the time I found the waitress she was bringing the salads. With NO apology she took back the soup to warm it up and didn't return. Another server reminded her and she Brought the soup with NO apology. The final straw was after I was already drinking my iced tea, I saw a dead fly floating in it. This time I asked for the supervisor/manager and she told me "well all I can do is take off the crab soup but we can't help it if a dead fly was in the iced tea." Once again, no apology!!! Website says they close their kitchen at 12 midnight. Drove 30 minutes to get there - walked in at 9:45 p.m. and after looking for a host, was told the kitchen is closed at 10:00.
