I may not be the most qualified reviewer, but I can say that this place had the best lampredotto I had in Firenze. It's located in Mercato Centrale on the first floor, in the back-right of the large food court. It's a pretty small place that specializes in trippa (tripe) and lampredotto (tripe, but a different part). They make what they do really well; I don't have a picture, but you can see their selection of foods behind the glass, true food court style.
Mercato Centrale is really not too crowded, possibly because Italy recently opened for US travelers; but at 8:00 PM, there was no problem getting a seat.
To prepare the lampredotto, the chef(?) scoops up some large pieces from its stew and cuts it up into small, bite sized pieces. You can pair it with a herbal green sauce or some kind of chili sauce/oil.
Really, the lampredotto needed no cutting; it was so tender, melt in your mouth. The broth that came with it was rich, perfect for dunking bread in. (It comes with bread, of course! The bread was okay; but it should be a vehicle for getting the broth to your mouth, and it did that perfectly.) The lampredotto was so flavorful; a clean taste, maybe a little milder than other kinds of tripe, but so tasty, and at an awesome price point (6 euros).
Maybe I will update this review if I get a taste of some trippa that blows this out of the water; but for anyone craving some hearty, spicy, rich trippa at a great price, I'd say, check this place out!
(Side note: the owner(?) said this places opens at 10:00 AM, and it seems to close at 8:30 PM or 9:00 PM, at least on Sundays.) read more
