We walk in to a rude waitress telling us to "SIT HERE" in Italian... yet there wasn't even a chair at the table. The waiter grabbed a dish from our table to show it to another customer so they could see what it looked like. Didn't even ask. No gloves. No nothing. Just grabbed our plate like it was all good and displayed it to a table of six and then handed it back. Ew. Then the waitress decides to tell me that we have a smaller glass but it was more full. I had to straight up grab the empty glass next to me from another customer and pour water into it so she can see. It would be one thing to say "Oh, I'm sorry about that". And I'd be over it. But it's the fact that she kept on insisting it was the same that bothered me. Then has the nerve to ask if I want dessert.. No? Decent food but the service was absolute crap. Wow! Hole in the wall place next to our Air BNB that is completely unpretentious. Set menus at incredible prices. This is not the fanciest of dining places but I enjoyed how relaxed it was. Wine/water included. Bread was not very good, but everything else hit the spot. They get people in and out too, which is great. We had pasta arabiata, pesto gnocchi, flank steak, lox, salad, peas. I need to start by saying this was the best food I have ever eaten. Everything from start to finish was incredible. The best meal we had in Italy and one of the best meals of my entire life. The flavors were incredibly, mind-boggingly good and it was a literal steal for what you got. We didn't know what to expect since it's a small, locally owned place off the main track but the food here blew us away. I wish we were in Florence longer so we could have come back again and again. The two of us opted to get a Florentine steak with a dinner meal of the beef stew, with pesto ravioli and salads. The price came out to about $50-60 total and we got so much food and several glasses of wine. The steak was the best cut of meat I've ever had. It's unlike any steaks in the US and the flavor was just incredible. It is cooked to absolute perfection, a perfect medium rare (medium for some of the outer pieces). There is no option to cook it well so don't even ask (but please don't even try, it is perfect as it is). The stew was also amazing. We ate everything and practically licked the plates it all tasted so good. I'm sure everything on the menu is incredible and you won't go wrong. Please eat here if you are in Florence! It is a do not miss! Bonus, the staff all spoke English for the tourist. There was a good mix of tourists and locals inside. Down the "sketchy" street we accidentally zigged instead of zagged and went the wrong way and noticed the numbers on the buildings were going higher instead of lower so we turned around and went the "right" way. At last! We found the restaurant and walked in. Just as Rick described, we were greeted with a warm welcome and were seated at a table for two. Our dishes were nothing fancy, but they tasted good and the prices were appreciated. Just as we expected, we ate a lovely home-style meal amongst other tourists and locals-alike. I had a great food experience here. They had a special of two course meal and a side dish. I picked a a dish recommend by a worker. A pasta dish with meat in a creamy sauce. It was delicious. It had a nice fresh flavor to it. My second course was a meat dish with rosemary. My plate had a small portions of chicken, stake and sausage. They definitely tasted how it was roasted with rosemary, delicious. My side dish was a salad. That was good too. Our dinner came with a drink. This place is priceless. If you don't love Italian food already, you will fall head over heals after eating here. I first discovered this place about 4 or 5 years ago. Back then the waiters didn't speak English and the menu wasn't translated. But the food was just phenomenal. Fast forward to 2019, they have translated menus and the waiters speak English. I purposely came back to eat here again and consider this one of the best places in Florence. During my trip I ate here 2 times; would have been 3 if they weren't closed on Sunday. Food: This place has some of the best gnocchi you will ever try. The pasta here in general is just amazing. It's worth getting the Florentine steak here also, which is served on a sizzling plate and just divine. The menu is super affordable with dinner costing just 15 euros. Who says dining in Europe has to be expensive? I had Trattoria da Giorgio bookmarked due to the rave reviews and their 14 Euro dinner meal special. The menu has a wide variety of items and includes a main, a pasta, water, soda or wine and the bread and service charge. And who doesn't love a good deal? Hubby and I both chose the tagliatelle with truffles to start with, for the main I chose the grilled beef, and he chose the meatballs. Bread was fine but more simple. The pasta had a very toothsome bite to it and was a good size portion. Slight truffle smell and some truffle pieces but not too much truffle taste. He enjoyed his meatballs in their light tomato sauce. The beef looked like a flank steak and was well marinaded and again bigger than what I envisioned from the description of being slices. He had some of my beef and said that the seasoning tasted kind of Asian influenced to him. Nonetheless we enjoyed the beef and it was a good meal. Trattoria da Gigorgio is a no frills small family ran restaurant with friendly staff. They have free wifi too (password on the menu)! Perhaps we could have ordered better items that could have highlighted their menu better, but this cute little restaurant is not a destination but a place to find a comforting cheap meal as there's other highlights in Florence. 3ish stars. read more

After a disastrous birthday dinner at the grandest hotel restaurant in the city, I was so delighted to find and experienced Giorgio just down the street. It's literally a hole in the wall, without yelp or tripadviser, I don't think I would had walked into Giorgio on my own based on the street it's located and ambiance alone. Upon entering, it took some time for them to acknowledge us. We had to walk pretty close to the kitchen before someone finally threw us the menu. We ended up sharing our table with 2 other couples. Luckily, after a less impressive first impression, we stayed. Our actual waiter was much friendlier. He was patient with my indecisiveness and made the effort in explaining the extensive prefixe menu (who knew a restaurant with such awesome deal would allow so many rotating choices for first, second courses, and side dishes!). Honestly, I could totally see myself eating every single dish on the menu but ultimately I went with ravioli with meat sauce, grouper with tomato, and a side house salad. My husband went with Tuscany soup, swordfish with rosemary, and fries. My ravioli dish was simple, authentic, and beyond satisfying. My husband claimed his soup was tie as best meal on our honeymoon. Our perspective fish were cooked to perfection (flakey, melt in our mouth good) - however we weren't crazy about the sauces they came in. My tomato sauce had too much olive which made it a tad too salty and my husband's was literally a pool of butter. My house salad was light and refreshing. The freshly cut fries was made to order and packed with potato flavor! I'm all about deals - 14 euros for two courses, a side, wine, soda, and water - how do they make any money? I was wandering around Florence and got a rumbly in my tumbly so of course I turned to Yelp. Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, I wasn't misled by choosing to dine at this restaurant! This place is a great Italian experience and is an amazing value in a very expensive city. The fixed price is easy on your wallet yet filling to your stomach. The nondescript eatery has oodles of charm inside! If you go early, you'll dine with mostly tourists but slowly the place gets packed (expect to wait if you show up even an hour after opening; it's popular)! For one price, you get a carafe of house wine, bottled water, a pasta course, main dish and side. It is an amazing deal for the amount of food you get. I ordered a tomato and cheese tortellini, the special turkey stew with peas and sauteed spinach as my side. My husband had the t-bone steak (which came with fried potatoes). You pay a bit more for the steak dinner, but it was HUGE. The service was great, friendly and unhurried. The restaurant is very small and cramped, so be prepared to get to intimately know your fellow diners. The food isn't great, but it's good and filling. This is not the trendiest or the fanciest food you can get in Florence. If you want that, do not come here for that. This trattoria offers a 12 euro prix-fixe for lunch jand 14 euro for dinner which includes a 1/4 ltr of house wine. Considering the cost, set your expectations accordingly. This meal was one of my favorite meals during my 3 weeks of Italy. When I got there around 8, it was very busy, a sign up sheet was next to the door. The single surly waiter sat me at a table with another solo diner to both our surprise. I guess that's a thing here, be prepared to get friendly with some strangers! Luckily when I asked the woman if she spoke English, she said was from North Carolina and we ended up having a wonderful conversation. So the dinner set comes with a choice of primi, secondi, side dish and again a 1/4 ltr of wine. Unlike other restaurants that charge for bottled water, they give you tap water. The tap water in Italy is perfectly safe and tastes great. I ordered homemade pasta with boar sauce, beef francesina with onions (I had no idea what this was.. apparently its boiled leftover beef sauteed with onions, a classic Florentine dish), and a side of grilled eggplant. The pasta was pretty good, not the best but good, and the beef francesina was delicious and tender. The grilled eggplant was meh, but i didn't even know you had a choice of sides. Like other reviews have mentioned, the food is reminiscent of homecooking and the dishes are small, making it perfectly manageable to eat all three courses. Most restaurants I went to, the portions were too large so I couldn't finish my food if I ordered more than one course. The sizing probably contributes to how they are able to offer the set meal at such a low cost. I personally really enjoyed the food, the coperto is a bit high at 4 euro, but it was still an amazing deal considering the variety and the amount of wine they give you. I would return to this place and would recommend it to anyone looking for a satisfying meal. I don't recommend it to those looking for the best pasta or the best steak florentine in the city though. read more

The wine was bland, the pasta shameful to any Italian grandma, the grilled eggplant and spinach too gruel-y and salty, respectively, to consume, and the meat dishes decent in texture but so cornstarch-sauced that my Beef Francesina was swimming in mucus. But then again, there is no pretense of fine dining. This restaurant knows what it is - a cafeteria to serve out massive portions to feed the hungry who stumble upon their hot kitchens. A bold statement, but I'm going for it: Giorgio's was the best meal I had during my stay in Florence; nay, in all three cities I visited during my recent trip to Europe. While wandering down one of the many cramped streets toward the city center, we spied - first - a sign. A fixed menu for only 13 euro (12 for lunch)! Having just come from Paris the previous day, we were astounded to find that we could get a full meal here - including wine - all for less than the price of an espresso in the City of Light (but that 15 euro espresso came with a tiny square of Valrhona chocolate, so that makes it okay...right?). Upon further inspection, we found the inside to be crammed full of locals hunched over rustic plates of delicious looking food. We were not disappointed by this choice. Walking in, we were immediately overwhelmed with the smell of truffles. The menu is simple Tuscan food, done up the right way: just like mom and pop used to make it. The selection of primi courses is overshadowed by the house-made mushroom pasta with black truffles, which is really...incredible (the photos do it no justice). Seriously. Fantastic. And did I mention a mere course in a 13 euro meal? The selection of secondis featured a bit more room for variety. The roasted rabbit, beef tongue stew, and veal scallopini were spot-on. I wish my stay had been longer (or like, forever - too bad somebody's gotta pay the bills) so that I could have gone further into that menu, since there were so many amazing looking choices. I saw a lot of locals ordering the chicken. /shrug The sides were simple (spinach, broccoli, tuscan white beans, etc). Portions were hearty. The meals include a bottle of water and a glass of wine. I enjoyed my dinner so much that I returned to Giorgio's for lunch the following day, this time solo. For more truffle pasta. The waiter remembered me and was very warm the second time around giving me a light embrace, then pouring me the large carafe of red wine without even asking what I'd like (as the previous night, we'd had uhm...a few medium sized carafes). I felt as though I was coming home. After finishing my meal, I shamelessly stuck around for the free wi-fi, tourist-style. The friendly waiter let me stay until the restaurant had closed for the afternoon and the kitchen staff had already gone home. He didn't even charge me for the giant carafe of wine. So I got: an amazing Tuscan meal with homemade pasta, charming service, water, a bottle of wine, an afternoon buzz, and wi-fi. Da Giorgio's main attraction is their ridiculously cheap 3 course meal complete with wine of your choice. The wait to be attended to and served food and drink is extremely short, so that's a wonderful change of pace for most of the town. However, the food really isn't all that great, even if you're not really paying that much. The flavors are strangely uniform no matter what dish you get, the meats tend to be overcooked, and everything is a tad too salty. Still, the pasta was cooked decently well (even if its flavor was lacking), you get a 1/4 L of wine and 1/2 L of water, and the portion sizes to each entree is substantial. It's certainly probably a step between Italian food you could find in a strip mall in America and a lower-tier Italian restaurant. Not good, but not terrible either. read more

We ate here last year and loved the place. Great food, lots of it, and ridiculously cheap prices compared to the rest of Florence and its overpriced tourist traps. So we returned once again and, again, we were not disappointed! They open for dinner at 6:30pm (lunch 12-2:30pm), rather early by Italian standards, but make sure you get there before 8pm unless you want to wait, even on weekdays. They have a sign-up sheet at the entrance if all of the tables are full, so simply jot your name down if you cannot find a seat. Arriving around 7:45pm on a Wednesday night, we were quickly seated and shortly thereafter our waiter arrived with our water and a half-liter of red wine. The menu is fixed price, now €13 for lunch and €14 for dinner, a pittance for what you receive in return and there is no "ala carte" menu. For that very reasonable price, you are entitled to a 1/2 liter of water, ¼ liter of wine (per person/ red or white), primo (first course - pasta, soup, etc), secondo (second course - meat dish), and contorno (vegetable - salad, potatoes, artichokes, broccoli, etc). Desserts are extra, but quite cheap at €2 for the lemon sorbet or €3 for tiramisu, panna cotta, and cheesecake among others. We had the homemade pasta for our primi, a bigoli (think fat spaghetti) with black truffles and mushrooms and paccheri con broccoli e salsicce (a large flat noodle in a creamy sauce of broccoli florettes and sausage). The truffle and mushroom pasta was superb with rich, earthy tones and unlike more than a few Tuscan restaurants we have been to recently, perfectly cooked "al dente". The paccheri con broccoli e salsicce had a slightly odd taste, almost as if there were tuna in the recipe (I asked and there was not). It was not bad, but it was not what I was expecting, so my wife and I swapped plates as she found it quite tasty. For secondi we both had the scaloppine marsala e noci (cutlets, pork I believe, in a creamy marsala and walnut sauce). The meat was juicy and tender and the sauce sublime, reminiscent of a savory German "rahm" (cream) sauce and one of the best sauces I have had in recent memory. Our contorni were patate fritte (French fries), perfectly cooked - crispy and hot - and artichokes marinated in olive oil, also excellent. The wine, a local red, was good - lightly chilled, mildly sparkling, fruity, and slightly sweet. Although very full, we could not resist sharing a tiramisu (€3). Coming in a rather large cup, there were layers of saviardi cookies soaked in coffee and sweet mascarpone cheese sprinkled with cocoa powder as is the tradition. Once again, we were not disappointed. In-fact, Trattoria da Giorgio is the "BEST VALUE" in Florence or anywhere else for that matter. You will not have a better meal anywhere in Italy for €30 ... guaranteed. I think like $13 for a starter, entree and glass of wine. Can't beat that! My beef carpaccio wasn't raw steak, like you may be used to, but rather more of a cured meat. But it was still good, just a different thing. I would recommend this place if you're looking for an economical meal in a convenient location. We ordered some wine, chicken, pork shank and gnocchi - exactly what we needed after a long day out in-town. I ordered the Pork shank which was so perfectly cooked and tender that it fell off the bone with little effort. Every bite was packed with moist flavor with the pork just melting on my tongue. I was just taking my fork and shredding the pork off for little savory bites. While white wine doesn't pair too well with red meat, I ordered some house wine that was possibly a Pinot Grigio. It really helped to get some extra sweet and bitter flavor out of my meal. After deciding the pork wouldn't be enough to prepare my body for the tourist beating that was planned for the following day, I ordered some pasta. Carb load! I have never in my life had Gnocchi that was so soft and the cream sauce had a subtle yet delicious flavor. I would recommend this dish to anyone! My wife ordered the ravioli with meat sauce which had a rich seasoning flavor to it and the ravioli was very tender. Each bite was like butter melting on your tongue. She wanted a little more protein to make up for the 14 hours wandering the streets and ordered some chicken. Didn't bring us water, bread, or wine like he did for all the other tables, even though these items are included with the fixed price lunch. He brought food for locals before us even though we were there first. He mixed up our orders and dropped them in front of us splattering sauce on the table. After this he walked away leaving us unable to ask for water or wine. We hoped maybe the food would make up for this but that was not the case. Decided to give this place a try after seeing the reviews on Yelp. We were disappointed in the food; 1 plate of pasta was overcooked and the other one was undercooked (and they weren't fresh). Broccoli was mushy, sadly. I gave it three stars because the beef carpaccio and overall value was great, but food was sub-par for what we can have in Italy. I suggest going to mercato centrale instead, where you can get really good food for a few more euros. This fixed price place is a tourist trap but if you're looking for a quick and cheap meal them this might be a good option for you. They charge €15 during dinner and you may choose a primi (a pasta/risotto dish or the soup), and a secondo (meat dish or caprese salad) and a liter of wine. My friend ordered the ribollita since the day was chilly and raining but was disappointed with it and I wasn't impressed with it either. I ordered the risotto with mushrooms and was also a bit disappointed with the flavor. I think both dishes needed a bit more salt and some spices. Maybe we can just blame it on the rain ? read more

Delicious and like others mentioned - a definite 'steal' in terms of value. Hubby ordered the menu with the Florentine Steak (noticed others don't normally order) and every bite was spectacular. I ordered the risotto with beets and walnuts and tripe which were also super delicious. We also ordered 3 desserts to get the full Florentine effect: Taramisu, Pear/Chocolate Tort and Creme Caramel. I think it's hard to find a restaurant with such good food and price together at the city center ! Lunch is at 13€ and dinner at 14€. 3 dishes with house wine, water and bread; they are good value and taste. The host/ server/ cashier all in one guy is so funny, i like the way he open the wine read more

We were just walking by, looking for a different restaurant that we'd seen earlier, when I passed by a sign advertising 13 euro prix-fixe lunches, so I stopped to look what that actually got. As I was reading the flyer, someone leaving the restaurant told us that "we simply had to eat here, it was amazing". They were not lying. Was it really the best food I'd ever had? No, it was darn good, but I've had better. I've never had a 3-course meal plus pretty respectable wine for under 20 bucks anywhere else, though. Definitely felt like one of the most authentically Italian places we went all trip, and such a great deal! Didn't anyone ever tell these guys that restaurants are supposed to be more expensive in Italy than in the US? read more
