It's great for what it is. This is not the romantic, high end, swanky place with the happening crowd. This is like sitting at your mom's table. Gnocchi and wild boar ragu (think pot roast sort of taste) were both great. Salad ok. Reasonable prices. Not the best dinner I had but 30-50% less than our other meals. I love Firenze! It's my home away from home. It's the place I go to feel happy. Part of that happiness, is discovery, new places, and realizing that, without exception, I thankfully have never had a bad meal in Florence, Italy. Trattoria Pallottino it's just that. A new discovery, and a menu filled with yummy sounding food. This definitely is a locals only location, and, despite the fact that seating is very, very tight, it seems to be a local date spot, both for dating couples, as well as, married couples. Once we tried the food, it was easy to see why. I ordered the eggplant Parmesan, because I had been craving a favorite, and it definitely did not disappoint. It was layered to look like lasagna, and for once, I was able to finish my entire meal in one sitting. The portions are average, not too generous, not too minimal . Lasagna was also ordered because just like gelato, we sometimes feel compelled to try the same dish in different places to compare which one is better than the last. I had a couple of bites of the lasagna, and while I found it to be tasty, but not anything extraordinary. Especially, after I just had amazing lasagna in Venice, this one definitely did not necessarily meet that mark. Service was impeccable, and the gentleman that runs the restaurant is not only attractive, but he was incredibly welcoming. Everything about the restaurant is super tight, and when crowded, you definitely need to feel comfortable sitting next to people that you may or may not know. They offer a variety of wines and other beverages, and I love the fact that it's frequented by locals versus tourists. The restrooms are a little bit of a trip... Nothing is necessarily obvious about how anything in the restroom works from the lighting, to turning the water on at the sinks. There's a foot pedal for the water in the sinks, and some other contraption to actually turn the lights on. The bathrooms are clean though, and that's a huge plus. This is a wonderful little restaurant near Santa Croce, an area with a number of good eateries. We were drawn to Trattoria Pallottino by its simple and traditional look and menu, and were rewarded with an excellent Tuscan dinner. This little family run trattoria that serves Tuscan cuisine is our favorite restaurant in Florence! We are here only three nights and have dined here twice and sat al fresco on the outdoor terrace. The pork steak is the best thing I have ever tasted! The spinach is deliciously cooked in olive oil and garlic and the Tuscan bistecca alla Fiorentina was perfectly grilled to rare (I have been told this is the only way to eat this type of steak) and it was simple and amazing. Wow is all I can say! It is difficult to find bad Italian food in Italy, but once in a while, you find a stunning place that trumps all others. This is one of those places. I have to agree with some fellow comments below: table service was below average. Not welcoming when we came in, and not attentive during the meal. We had the LASAGNA & GNOCCHI. Unlike what others said below as well, we had a table in front of the kitchen and the gnocchis definitely came out of a bag WITH a label. So... NOT necessarily "homemade." they were chewy just like any other restaurant with pre-made gnocchis. We loved this place, I always get the spaghetti when I go to Italian especially when your actually in Italy. The spaghetti was labeled spicy and I was a bit concerned, because I don't really like too hot. I thought it would be interesting at the very least, because I've never seen spaghetti that had a spicy sauce. This place has great reviews and it deserves them! The tomato bruschetta was very fresh and good (3 pieces = 4€). I had the spinach and cheese lasagna, it was very tasty. I was surprised it didn't have any tomato sauce, just cheese, and puréed spinach. My girlfriend got the meat lasagna and said it was some of the best she's ever had. It is a very nice trattoria, with a small lovely terrace on a calm street: it is very pleasant to have lunch outside. The people here are really nice and welcoming and the atmosphere is really family-like. It has a home-like flavor, which i really liked. Food is served in plates that you could have at home, not the standard white plates you find in a restaurant. So for me it is the perfect spot to go on a Sunday if you are far from home but want to feel like having a Sunday family lunch. Great Tuscan dinner! We came at 7:30pm on Thursday when they first start dinner service. We did not have a reservation and got seated right away. People slowly trickled in after that and by the time we finished dinner and left, a line was starting to form. They have both an Italian menu and English menu. The specials are written by hand. We very much enjoyed the assortment of crostini. There were 4 types: tomato, white bean, olive oil, and pate. Probably the favorite of the night was the ribollita soup. Very thick and hearty veggie soup with bits of bread (I think). Very good. The "marinated vegetables" dish is more or less just grilled eggplant, bell pepper, and zucchini drizzled with olive oil. I wasn't quite sure what to expect with a title like "marinated vegetables," but now you know. Now the main event was the Florentine steak. The two of us could barely finish the 1kg steak! Not when we had all those other dishes! Loved that char and sear on the outside. The meat close to the bone and center was very, very rare. They don't ask you how you like it cooked, it just comes out that way. So I'm guessing it's safe to say that Florentine steaks in their traditional form is very rare in the middle? All that food plus wine came out to be 70 Euros. They take credit card. read more

After an early start walking the streets and enjoying the sights of Florence we had worked up an appetite for lunch. A Yelp search revealed Trattoria Pallottino. The reviews and ratings are wholly accurate and we thoroughly enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and the friendliness of the wait staff (and chef) who managed to photo-bomb our family portrait (much to our delight). We started with the Arugula salad with walnuts, and Zucchini flowers and whilst there was nothing entirely special about either dish, they were great to take the edge off our hunger so we could enjoy the specials of the day. For secondi we ordered the Ravioli which was fantastic and the sauce was very fresh and tasty. My wife ordered the Carpacchio di Melanzome which I was quite jealous of. Hard to believe you can make a meal out of this, but it was a hit for sure. The kids left satisfied respectively with the pork steak and beef steak. On a final note, we believe that this place also offered some of the best value for money ... we're absolutely creatures of habit and will probably find an excuse to come here again during our stay in Florence. read more

After reading many Yelp reviews, I chose this spot for my husband and I on our second night in Florence. We then promptly returned the night after because the food and the service was just phenomenal. On the first night my husband had pasta with wild boar ragu, and I had the spaghetti carbonara. Absolutely to die for--seriously. The carbonara was so rich and fresh! On the second night my husband had a steak (not the giant one, but that one looked absolutely perfect) and I had his wild boar pasta from the first night. Our favorite part, however, was the ambience; we loved our server--a wonderfully enthusiastic and compassionate Italian woman who made you feel comfortable and welcome. As our tour guide recommended to us, if you want to find good quality food in reasonable price, head to Piazza S. Croce surrounding area, you won't be disappointed. So after visited Chiesa di S. Croce, I fired up my Yelp app and found this awesome restaurant for lunch. The restaurant was on a quiet alley but not hard to find. They have English menu which is very helpful. I ordered mushroom risotto ($11 euro) and a bottle of beer ($3 euro). The rice contained rich, creamy, and tasty flavor. The texture is so right that it is not too runny nor over sticky. Mushrooms are very soft as well. Overall speaking I am very pleased with the dish. It is because the weather is too hot, I don't have much appetite to try other dishes. This is an amazing restaurant and I'm glad we were able to dine here during our time in Florence. It's a Tuscan restaurant that changes menus daily (as demonstrated by the hand written menu in both Italian and English) and the prices are extremely good for the quality and amount of food you receive. We went with the mixed crostini, which had four different types of crostini: tomato, pate, white beans, and olive oil. Each one was very distinct and flavorful! The tomatoes were super fresh and the olive oil one was surprisingly delicious. I guess simplicity truly is the best! I had the gnocchi with Gorgonzola and arugula and it was amazing. Gnocchi is my favorite type of pasta and every time I try to make it at home, it tastes... Different haha. Might have something to do with the fact that I'm a Chinese woman who's lived all her life in California! Anyways, the gnocchi was so fresh and light that I couldn't stop eating it even though I was so full. Thank goodness I wore leggings :) My bf got the florentine style steak (I think?) and it was great as well. Plenty of smokey flavor and lightly seasoned. It was pretty rare, even though he had asked for it to be medium. It had some sort if thinly sliced cheese on top and arugula underneath.
