Visiting Florence for the first time and our Airbnb host recommended this place for the Florentine Steak. I have eaten in several places in Florence and this was by far the best I had been to! While my Italian is not very good, the staff were patient and understanding and able to still give me great service. The food was AMAZING and it was a one of a kind experience. I will be dreaming of my meal and cannot wait to visit Florence again soon!

I love Firenze! It's my home away from home. It's the place I go to feel happy. Part of that happiness, is discovery, new places, and realizing that, without exception, I thankfully have never had a bad meal in Florence, Italy. Trattoria Pallottino it's just that. A new discovery, and a menu filled with yummy sounding food. This definitely is a locals only location, and, despite the fact that seating is very, very tight, it seems to be a local date spot, both for dating couples, as well as, married couples. Once we tried the food, it was easy to see why. I ordered the eggplant Parmesan, because I had been craving a favorite, and it definitely did not disappoint. It was layered to look like lasagna, and for once, I was able to finish my entire meal in one sitting. The portions are average, not too generous, not too minimal . Lasagna was also ordered because just like gelato, we sometimes feel compelled to try the same dish in different places to compare which one is better than the last. I had a couple of bites of the lasagna, and while I found it to be tasty, but not anything extraordinary. Especially, after I just had amazing lasagna in Venice, this one definitely did not necessarily meet that mark. Service was impeccable, and the gentleman that runs the restaurant is not only attractive, but he was incredibly welcoming. Everything about the restaurant is super tight, and when crowded, you definitely need to feel comfortable sitting next to people that you may or may not know. They offer a variety of wines and other beverages, and I love the fact that it's frequented by locals versus tourists. The restrooms are a little bit of a trip... Nothing is necessarily obvious about how anything in the restroom works from the lighting, to turning the water on at the sinks. There's a foot pedal for the water in the sinks, and some other contraption to actually turn the lights on. The bathrooms are clean though, and that's a huge plus. Go for the eggplant, and stay for the enjoyment of dining with locals.

Wow wow wow! Great food, inexpensive but well balanced table wine and no one spoke English haha Exactly what I wanted from a Florence food experience. Be mindful that I had no cell phone service inside so I recommend knowing what you want before you arrive if you dont speak Italian. Main menu had some english but wine menu had none. Ambiance is kind of a hole in the wall but thats kind of the feel I was looking for. I would love to go back & try more.

BEST MEALS OF THE TRIP!!!! I'm from Orange County so I'm pretty spoiled when it comes to great restaurants, but WOW this place, somewhat off the beaten path, has us wanting to return ASAP. My mom and I had the Wild Boar Pappardelle, my husband had lasagna, and we took vegetable soup home for my grandmother. Every single dish was flavorful and amazing. The waiter was so nice and gave great recommendations for this green vegetable I believe was cooked kale. It had a slight spice and was so good we ordered extra to go. Definitely going back before we leave.

Fun place for a very local vibe. We had 8:30 reservations and were the first ones in the restaurant. Overall good meal, loved the wine carafes. Loved loved loved the lasagne. Was a bit mixed on the florentine steak, the filet part was amazing, but then the other half was quite chewy. If anything, I would come back because I loved the authentic feel.

Beef tagliata was really good. They don't ask your cooking preference, if you like rare, it's right on. If you want it cooked more, request so when you order. Gnocchi was the best I've had, they are little ones. Cute too. Pappaedelle was highly recommended and didn't disappoint. Not your typical red sauce, more of a mild meat based.

    Mallory M.

I have to agree with some fellow comments below: table service was below average. Not welcoming when we came in, and not attentive during the meal. We had the LASAGNA & GNOCCHI. Unlike what others said below as well, we had a table in front of the kitchen and the gnocchis definitely came out of a bag WITH a label. So... NOT necessarily "homemade." they were chewy just like any other restaurant with pre-made gnocchis. The lasagna had good flavor and enjoyed the cheese crust that was made by broil but nothing too special. Appetizer of fried corn and pork was great! House wine on the table was good and affordable. Overall, had high expectations and just an average experience. I wouldn't recommend going out of the way to this restaurant.

Best meal I've had since we got to Italy. My faith in Italian food has been restored. The pork cutlet over grilled veggies was great. The pork spare ribs with potatoes (not on the menu, saw old posts) was great. My son had the pici pasta in homemade ragù and that was divine. My son was asking for seconds. The guests at the restaurant was primarily American. I guess they saw the same reviews.

Simply amazing! We stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant and I'm so glad we did! We sat in the back amongst the other Italian locals. Anyway, I can't tell you how special this restaurant is and how happy I was to eat here! It was delicious... here is what we ordered... Fried polenta with wild boar ragu- delicious! Florentine steak (1.25 kg "2.10 oz")- A MUST!! Sides: Roasted potatoes - great Sautéed spinach - delicious! Fried artichokes- ok Arugula salad - simple but a must to finish this meal off! House Wine was on the table calling our names so we finished two bottles! So many other dishes looked amazing too... risotto with mushrooms, anything with the wild boar ragu.... Cons: 1. Can you order tap water.. it didn't seem like it was an option. They needed larger bottles of water. 2. Know some Italian phrases because the waiters don't speak English... as they shouldn't... we are in their country!!

Not many places actually have yelp reviews, but this one had so many with great feedback. The food looked amazing. When we arrived we thought they were closed, but that is because they moved to a bigger restaurant a few doors down. When we arrived at the front, the gentleman asked if we had reservations, which we didn't. He directed us to the line with no reservations. The line was a bit long, but doubled in size almost immediately. It also started pouring rain during this time and we were ALL getting drenched even with an umbrella. The non reservation line was not really moving unless people left the line. We waited a good hour. As we inched closer and closer, the lines were now both outrageous and getting seated seemed like a distant memory. The staff came out and gave out Sangria and Bread bites to help those in line feel welcome. We did finally get seated and we were so glad we waited, it was worth it! We ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara, the lobster spaghettini and the chicken breast with roasted potatoes. We also ordered sangria. Everything was so good and our total was 83 €. Prices were unbelievable! We were amazed at the quality, the service and how large the restaurant they relocated to was. It was like a well oiled machine. The food coming out quickly and efficiently. I will 100% be back if I return to Florence!

I went to the internet for the best Florentine steak and Trattoria Mario consistently popped up as highly rated. I reached out to the restaurant via email to make a reservation for a Friday. I wanted to get the earliest reservation possible, so the restaurant reserved me for 7:30pm, which was when they open. I was advised to show up on time - even a 2 minute delay would make me miss my reservation. I can see why Trattoria Mario was strict on reservations. They open on the dot, and then a staff member calls out each reservation at 7:30pm like a roll call. Seemed to me that if you don't have a reservation then you're out of luck, because there was no waitlist and the restaurant small and space was limited. Service was great. Our waitress was highly attentive and got us in/out of the restaurant quickly, which was what we were going for. Food came out in a timely manner. We ordered the penne al ragu, salad misto, and a Florentine steak to share. The penne was perfectly al dente, and I liked the meat sauce. I did find the pasta sauce salty, but it could've came from the grated parmesan. The saltiness was not a fluke. The Florentine steak was just pure beef and a ton of salt... too much salt for my liking. I also decided that I'm not a fan of Florentine steak in general.

Back in the…read morestates, I always get strange reactions from the waiters when I order my steak "as rare as possible." That is what I was expecting in Italy. Am I the only one that thought steak florentine was supposed to be served this way? Maybe that's was my mistake but I thought that's how it was prepared in Florence. Anyways, I was immediately suspicious when our waitress asked how we would like our steak cooked and her suggestions were medium or medium well. Uhhhh what? That goes against everything I believe in! The steak came out on a hot stone slab on top of a wooden box. The slab obviously continued to cook the steak so I immediately took off a few pieces to prevent this. The steak was thick and tender with chunks of large salt grains. It looked nice all sliced up but that's where the compliments end. It lacked flavor and ended up cooking to be more medium rare when I grabbed my pieces and then even medium by the time my dad grabbed his second slice. Our waitress seemed annoyed when we asked for the truffle sauce to accompany our steak (my dad forgot to ask for it when we placed our original order) and walked away with a huff to go grab it. The fries came out cold and limp with flavorless truffle shavings on top. I'm not sure why this place has such great reviews. Maybe it got too big for its britches and the quality has declined? The one saving grace was the crema bruciata! And the very understanding hostess who gladly pushed our reservation from 7:30 to 8:00pm due to travel difficulties. Whatever the reason, this place definitely missed the mark. You can't walk three steps without seeing a steakhouse here in Florence. My recommendation? Try one of those.
