We tired of waiting in the line to visit the Duomo and found ourselves in need of lunch. Situated at the foot of the Duomo and bell tower, at least we could see it. We sat outdoors and were attended to almost immediately. Quick service, and prompt delivery of our food by a friendly server, softened the blow of not entering the church. Great food helped even more? We split spaghetti carbonara and a fried fish dish. Bread service was nice as the balsamic vinegar had Chianti added to it, a first for us. Sitting outdoors, you are close to your fellow patrons, but it is always nice to learn about where they are from and where thy are going. It started to rain just as we were getting served, but held off the heavy stuff until we finished, so we will always rember this meal. read more

UPDATE - Situated right next to the Duomo, this is a great place to people watch while enjoying your morning coffee, or lunch/dinner. Their selection of desserts and pastries is reason enough to come in, but they also have great dishes for lunch and dinner. We ordered the Bruschette "au gratin" with artichokes and grana cheese and the pici pasta with veal meat and porcini mushrooms sauce. Both were great. We shared the Tiramisu all'amaretto for dessert. Service was attentive and prices are competitive especially when you consider the location. They've been in this spot since 1793 and are the oldest restaurant in Florence. read more

Fantastic ending of an excellent day! We sat outside directly under a heater (much needed) so that we had a view of the Baptistry of John and the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral. The wait staff was attentive, yet not overbearing. The food was absolutely to die for. We love Italian food, but after 4 days of pasta, some meat and potatoes was called for. The Fiorentine steak did not disappoint. It makes the top 5 steaks of all time for me. At over 2.5 lbs it was more than enough to split with my wife. Actually another person could have shared it! The meat was tender and well seasoned. The antipasti was also incredible. But the tiramisu was just average. All in all, a great meal with an unparalleled view for a reasonable price. We visited here in July 2023, and this place was super memorable. The location is the best part. Sitting outside, drinking an Aperol Spritz, and enjoying the view is what a trip to Italy is all about! The food was incredible! The bruschetta and the ravioli stuffed with burrata were our favorite things on the menu. The inside of the restaurant is really nice, classy, welcoming and clean, and the dessert display is just drool worthy. The service was great. They rearranged a few chairs for us so our family of 6 could sit together comfortably. Drinks and food came out in a timely manner. Delicious fresh and outside seatingz so is perfect. We stopped in before our tour and enjoyed their delicious gelato and a glass of champagne. Went here a couple of times for espresso and wasn't that impressed with the service. The service here is a bit in the harsh side. If you get a table outside, be prepared to wait even longer to get served. And you can only sit in certain areas if you are only having drinks--not nice. They have lots of different delicious looking pastries here. The espresso at the counter is cheaper, and it tastes pretty good. read more

I went here for lunch with my best friend and had the burrata stuffed ravioli for lunch on the recommendation of our waiter Giuseppe with the selection of cheeses for appetizer. 10 out of 10 for the view - the entrance of the Duomo! 10 out of 10 for the food - wow! and 10 out of 10 for the service. Giuseppe was patient with our questions had great recommendations for the wine and would swing by and grab our phones unannounced to take our photo with the magnificent Duomo in the background. We had such a great experience we came back a night later with our husbands and were ecstatic to find Giuseppe welcoming us again! We had more wine more amazing apps - DO NOT MISS THE POLPOTINE DE BACALOA - codfish and shrimp cakes!! Also cant miss is the lasagna - unlike anything from the U.S. - paper thin lasagna layered with exquisite Bolognese. We sat outside, but not on the side that had a view of the cathedral.We had 5 people beg for money from us during our meal.This is no fault of the restaurant, but sadly it is something you have to consider when you are trying to enjoy a meal with your family. A little bit of history: This caffe was originally called "Bottegone" because back in the day it seemed a big caffe in terms of size. It had its glory period in the time between the World Wars, especially after WW2. In 1962 it was bought and lost many of the things that made it unique, this way also losing its popularity among locals. It changed its name to Caffe Mokarico but it was recently renamed to its original name, Bottegone. The neon signs are still there however, and are honestly very misleading. Its such a shame now its a simple self service, and looks like the last renovation indoors was made in the late 70s... Not really a good era design-wise for this location as the glass and gold metal clash with the amazing and more romantic palaces and monuments surroundig it. Foodwise its not superb but not too bad either. Again many places around the Duomo survive only because of the high tourist traffic they get and not from the charm of the place (which this place now lacks) or the quality of the food. Sadly this is one of those places. read more

Oh this place is terrible. Hot chocolate was flavorless. The cheesecake with red berriers was gritty in texture and the crust was old tasting. The tiramisu no good either. Total bust. Dropped by for a quick cup of gelato on our way back to the bus stop. I ordered a cup of strawberry and my husband got s cup of chocolate. Our ice cream was okay--my strawberry ice cream was a bit icy, while my husband's chocolate was a lot smoother and creamier. We also thought it was a touch overpriced. It is almost like an American cafeteria. Pre cooked plates of foods are displaced in a glass case. Just tell the man behind the counter what you like. He will heat up the plate in microwave or give it to you cold. We had lasagna, grilled salmon with eggplants, and a cold seafoods salata plate. Lasagna was bad, salmon was overlooked but tasty. The best plate was the seafood. It had octopus, clams, fish, sliced tomatoes, and green beans. I added fresh lemon juice and olive oil to the plate, so refreshing.
