I was visiting from out of town and was craving pasta and found Davide on yelp. I made a reservation and once we arrived, we were greeted and seated by a very nice gentleman. We ordered with our waiter who was also very nice. My husband hadn't been feeling too well that day but we thought we'd head to dinner in hopes that he'd feel better but unfortunately we found that we needed to leave before eating our meal. We asked another waiter if he'd kindly pack up our entrees and they quickly and attentively took care of us getting everything packed away. They were great and as we were leaving the gentleman that had greeted us wished us the best and said that he'd hope we'd make it back in, very personable and we appreciated that. I ate my meal once home and it was amazing! I got the linguini and clams and my husband ate his pasta the next morning (lol) and also said it was pretty amazing even being re-warmed the next day. We Would love to come back when in town, was bummed we couldn't take advantage of the ambiance but will definitely be visiting again. read more

For a small town (San Rafael) this was world-class food and service! I had the mushroom tart which is one of the best things I've EVER tasted. The waiter suggested a Pinot Noir that would complement the earthy flavor, rather than trying to upsell to a more expensive Cab. To close the meal I ordered a tawny Port. Stopped at Il Davide on our way to SF from Napa. The young man who talked to me on the phone had a lot of personality. We arrived around 1:30 PM and were impressed by the number of customers there. As usual, service was outstanding. I had the pappardelle tre funghi which continues to be outstanding. My husband had the pappardelle with rock shrimp which he thoroughly enjoyed. We parked in the parking structure behind the restaurant and received an hour of free parking from the restaurant. We will continue to patronize Il Davide whenever we're in the area. read more

Food is great! The place is a trip! It used to be classy and delicious but last night we sat out side and there were regulars hanging aound, not eating and being obnixous! One of the regulars was sitting on a bench watching everyone eat with his barking dog off leash and begging from tables! I have a dog and I love dogs but I either keep mine leashed or at home. It is a lovely little restaurant. Food was great and the service was outstandinng. We also had our 4 year old with us and they were very sweet to him. We were able to order a simple pasta dish for him and they did not flinch when we ordered something not on the menu. We ate outside, which was perfect . Last night, a good friend and I went in to Il Davide to have dinner. From the minute we were seated at our table to the last dab of the napkin to our lips was completed, the food and the service was attentive, deliberate and generous. The food was delicious, flavorful and served hot. If there was a 6 rating, Il Davide would have earned it. My husband and I were thoroughly impressed by every aspect of this restaurant. Food: The food was fresh, flavorful and exquisitely presented. We ordered the roast beet salad, butternut nut squash ravioli, and the Due Ravioli. The butternut squash ravioli was the best I have ever had. The texture, filling, and sauce were absolutely delicious. Leave a little room for tiramisu too--it was perfectly prepared and very moist- they didn't skimp on the marscapone. Love the atmosphere and we had an amazing waiter. He brought out a butternut squash love pillow tortellini for us to try that they had made for a catering event. It was delicious and rich. We ordered our favorite beet salad which was amazing as always. Things went down hill a bit when we ordered our entrees. We had notified them we were in a bit of a hurry and they were very accommodating. The food came out. I ordered the salmon over the butternut squash polenta and my friend ordered the Petrale sole I believe. I took a bite and immediately realized the dish was very salty. I tried another bite and realized it was too salty to eat even the polenta was salty. It may have been the sauce which they insisted wasn't salted but my friend's fish came with the same sauce and her dish was too salty to eat as well. read more

Here's one of those conflicted reviews. The host was pleasant. We were seated immediately per our table for 3 reservation on a busy night, although at a table adequate for two re-purposed for three. Very tight quarters. Food was outstanding. Special seafood risotto excellent. Carpaccio appetizer and ravioli great too. Service very good except.... we felt like we were getting the bums rush. As we prepared to leave the staff began to reach over, around, and almost through us to clear the table. Came here on Friday night for my birthday. I was a bit nervous because I put off making a reservation until a couple of hours before I wanted to come in but David was so sweet and I was able to score a table for six at 7:30. He also walked me through all of the questions I had about the restaurant. Although we had to wait a bit to sit, the staff were really nice about it and the table was great. I loved the vibe of the restaurant - classy but not overly so, which was great. The lights seemed to get progressively dimmed during the time we were there, noticeably so, which was a little odd, but not awful. We split some of the cauliflower and brussel sprouts for starters (the brussel sprouts were amazing...would definitely recommend!). I then had the pappardelle ai tre funghi. I always have a soft spot for mushroom pasta and this did not disappoint. Plus it was huge so I felt very satisfied after. For dessert we all split a few orders of tirmasu. It didn't have the same strong taste of coffee I associate with tirmasu, but this ended up being a perk for the coffee-haters at the table. Overall, a great experience and great food! read more

The food did not disappoint, However, the waiter was, for the most part, inattentive and more focused on serving a large party adjacent to us. Just went back to Il Davide a few nights ago and was glad I did. Even though it was crowded, we were seated immediately and allowed to pick our table. We ordered three appetizers for the table: the calamari, good, not over cooked nor chewy, the tortellini with mushroom/truffle cream sauce--really good, but I didn't taste much truffle, and a special shrimp appetizer which was great. I ordered the sole stuffed with baby shrimp as an entree--very old school dish, but I liked it quite a bit. My one criticism of the entrees is that they all seem to come with the same potatoes and mixed vegetables. Overall the service was very attentive in spite of the fact that the restaurant was extremely busy. I enjoyed the food and my time there and will definitely go back soon. read more

I'll try to keep this short. By no means am I a restaurant snob. In fact I tend to enjoy brew pubs. Just tired of going out for a nice meal and being disappointed. Anyway, this place was awesome. Started with the calamari...it was very tasty. Wife had the Penne Con Arugula (she loved it) and I had the Capellini alla Diavola (Rock shrimp, spinach, pancetta, spicy tomato conserva, green onions, fresh tomato. It was outstanding, and they don't skimp on the shrimp!) It was very very good. Service was good. Since I don't know much about wine, asked waitress to suggest a glass to go with my meal, she came back with a glass of Pinot from Morgan. It was good and went very well with my meal.
