This place was highly recommended so we made it a special date night. Reservations are a must. It's set in a strip mall so you would never even notice it if you drive by. The menu is limited but we both found amazingly delicious dishes. The portions were 'fancy Italian' portion size, which we appreciated. Just enough to enjoy the tastes and not be overly stuffed. This was one of the best restaurants that I have ever eaten at. Every single dish was delicious. I highly recommend the Pappardelle and the scallops. So I made a reservation to go in the middle of the week. Since my husband and I were on vacation it seemed like a good time to try it and we are both really glad we did. My husband got the Tuscan Onion and said he couldn't believe how the egg on top really made the whole soup. I got the beet salad with the buffalo mozzarella... I'm still dreaming of it. The mozzarella was nice and firm On the outside and creamy on the inside. I had the Scallops. Now I've eaten scallops in plenty of restaurants and these were amazing. Cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. My husbands Halibut was also perfect. The seared outside almost had a sweetness to it. It was so good. The waiter suggested items we try as his favorites; the black spaghetti and taccozzelle. Next time I will absolutely try it. We saved room for dessert but should have shared one because after the dinner, ordering two desserts was more then we could eat. We both got the pistachio cake. It was light and nutty. A group of 6 of us went here for a friend's birthday. When we got there there was only one other table in the area we were sitting in. The server (Abby) seemed to have both of the tables. While she was friendly when she initially greeted our table, it was obvious quickly that there was a lack of hospitality. We ordered dirty martinis, but 2 of us got kettle one and 3 got tito's vodka. When we were served them (not by our server) there was no differential way of knowing whose was whose. We asked Abby and she obviously was unsure and said "it should be fine" and walked away from our table. When I took a sip of mine, it was clearly not kettle one vodka (I know because that is the only vodka I drink in martinis and it is MUCH smoother than tito's). When I voiced this, she seemed annoyed - took my glass and came back with one that was extremely watered down. It was almost as if it was taken back to the bar, put back in the shaker, and served to me again. During dinner, we ordered a few more drinks, some of us switching to wine. We had to repeat our order 3 times. Now to be fair, more tables had been sat and she did seem to have all of them. With that said, I am assuming the manager came over at some point and announced he would be around if we needed anything. He never mentioned his position or his name. At this point, our food was put on the table (half of the entrees to the wrong people - again, the food runners were the ones to drop the plates, not our server). One of our wines was completely forgotten and when we voiced this to Abby, our server, she told us "not to worry". Another almost 10 minutes went by and we still did not receive the glass of wine mentioned. We mentioned it again and she was clearly annoyed with us and at some point made a comment along the lines of: "I wish I were where you guys are". We also ordered dessert, and we also repeated that order 3 times - and one of our desserts were completely forgotten. We did not mention it and she never noticed - and upon receiving the bill, it was not on there at all. As someone who has worked in the restaurant business for several years, there was a CLEAR attitude that was given as if we were bothering her. There was never a once "I'm sorry for the delay" or "I'm sorry I am the only one in here, is there anything I can do" and to me that was the most bizarre part. The food was very very good, but unfortunately, none of us will be returning to Il Nido. read more

This restaurant was delicious and the service was excellent. We had a reservation for 8pm but my date was running extremely late since was was coming from far and stuck in traffic. Unlike most restaurants in this area, Norman the manager was extremely accommodating and lets us start our dining experience around 9pm when the restaurant was soon closing. When we came in and sat down we were not at all rushed, we felt very welcomed. Our server Carmen was the sweetest. She was attentive and accommodating. The food was great and the spicy rigatoni was even better than Carbone! I recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates good food and a great dining experience! read more

WOW. This place really impressed us. We read the positive reviews online, and thought we'd take the 30 min drive for dinner..and we were SO glad we did. First of all, don't be deceived by the strip mall..once you walk in to the restaurant you feel like your transported to a Tuscan villa. The atmosphere is perfectly lit, decorated beautifully, very welcoming. The menu was great..a very great selection (even for us being vegetarians). Pasta was al dente, broccoli rabe was delicious, as were the crispy potatoes. We have been raving about this place to all our friends. Beautiful restaurant, great service, great menu options. However, food lacks flavor. I ordered burrata and lobster crostini for appetizer. Also ordered black squid pasta with crab and linguine with tomato sauce for my daughter who is a toddler. Everything I ate either had no flavor or had no salt. Presentation was great but I can honestly say, my food has more flavor and tastes better than this expensive meal. I will not be visiting again unfortunately. The sauce and the pasta brought tears to my eyes because it reminded me of my grandmothers restaurant in DuPont Pa. unbelievably great. Sorry about the pics, the food went too fast for me to get a proper shot. I managed to get snap a mid dessert pic. Everything was really fantastic - charcuterie platter was best and most diverse I've had, pasta are homemade and the sauce, the sauce...go for the sauce. One of the best restaurants in NJ, with a talented crew, both front and back, with a truly passionate chef. Not a cheap place, but the ingredients used are the real deal (unlike most NJ restaurants that claim Kobe/wagyu and are lying about it) and you ca. taste the difference. I soooo want to give this 5 stars.... Unfortunately I had a bad experience with my reservation which put a damper on our entire evening... It may sound silly to some, but To me personally, atmosphere and food are equal, so I requested to be in the main dining room near the fireplace (if possible) when I made the initial reservation... then when I confirmed the reservation, I called and spoke with a girl who told me they would do their best...which I totally get because it was Friday of valentines weekend... taking this into consideration i made the reservation a bit later with hopes they could accommodate my request... I then called again a few hours prior to my reservation and asked if it would perhaps be better for them if I came in even a bit later, as it was very important to me to be in the main room and she let me know there was no need, I was already going to be seated there... so I said great! On the way to the restaurant we were running a few mins late, so called yet again just to let them know, and again, confirmed I'd be in the main room and was assured don't worry, you will be... I know overkill, but I am very specific and it was a special evening... So I walk in, and at this point, I'm joking with them how many times I've called to be sure I had the room I wanted, and the girl at the desk even says, yes I spoke with you 3 times! Lolol...we have a laugh... Then, they proceed to walk me to a dining room which clearly is not the main dining room and they look at me and say sorry, I thought this is what you meant... we call both rooms the main dining room... seriously,wtf? I was polite and told her I'd wait for the room I wanted and she said sorry, all tables have just been sat.... Really?? Well... needless to say, I was so annoyed at that point I just didn't enjoy the experience as I should have... Cannot recommend Il Nido enough. As a business, we often take our partners and guests here, after a lengthy journey to find somewhere to take them. I'm happy we found Il Nido. Lovely ambience, very accommodating and knowledgeable staff. Food has always been excellent, and the cocktails mix modern and traditional in just the right way. I typically order the pork chop, the short rib or the ribeye. The menu and accompaniments do change, so last week I missed the pear with the pork chop, but the roast cherries hit just as well! But the new pear gelato was fantastic for dessert. We'll be seeing you again next week! read more
