Where do I begin??? Service was so slow and there was no acknowledgment from our server for easily 20 minutes. We were ready to get up and leave and then he came out. The only reason he came out to our table was because the table next to us went inside to ask for their check. I'm mad at myself for not taking that queue and leaving. The day was beautiful we wanted to dine outside on the waterfront and I had this place on my list to try. We were at a Yelp Elite event a few doors down and this place was recommended to us. We placed our order all at once and waiting so long on the appetizer to arrive my husband walked down the block to go extend our parking. Well when dinner arrived it wasn't even the entree my husband ordered. The waiter apologized told us to snack on the plate he brought out and he would go place a Re order. When my husband's Carbonara finally arrived it had so much cracked pepper it was overwhelming. There was pepper throughout the dish and a huge pile on top. First of all the service is amazing here. We showed up as a party of 6 including a 5 yr old and a 2 yr old, and they did all kind of stuff to make the meal as pleasant for the whole party as possible. They brought lemonade for the kids, pen and paper for them to draw and check with them frequently. The fresh pasta tastes very good, I loved my Tartufo which was Truffle pasta. I could never eat enough of it The Ravioli was a bit salty (hence the 4 stars). Our party also ordered bunch of appetizers, Bruschetta, Burrata, bread and Salmon. Bruschetta was crunchy but under-seasoned. Burrata was ok, but you have to order bread with it. The Salmon dish was cooked Salmon, and we were expecting raw/smoked. So glad to finally give this place a try after eyeing it all the time when I walk by the waterfront. The inside couldn't be cozier. Spacious with plenty of tables and booth areas. Well-decorated with OG looking photos. Staffs were super friendly and professional. They recommened up great dishes and drinks. We started off with the Tampenade which was very delicious, perfect balance between savory and citrusy. Served with rosemary crackers For pastas, both the Truffle Pasta and Saffron Pasta were super fresh; the freshest we've had in awhile. Prepared right before serving so they're steaming when they got to us. The flavors were also incredible. Just the right amount of creaminess and umaminess. I'm still thinking about them. Drinks: - We got a bottle of the Katari San Giorgio, it was refreshing. If you're looking for something dry, with a good finish, and smooth on the palate, this is the one you're gonna want to get. Very inoffensive white wine Food: - I got the Boscaiola ravioli, it was pretty oily but meatiness of the dish was nice. I liked the texture of the ravioli, but I can't help but feel I'd like the pasta version of this more. Honestly the mushrooms were the highlight of this dish - We also got the Bruschetta for the table. The bread was very crunchy, there was lots of acidity from the tomatoes. The herbaceousness (if that's even a word) from the basil really takes over after a couple chews, so if you're not a fan of basil it may be best to avoid this one. It's a good dish though Ambience: - The seat we got was next to the window towards the wall on the left when you walk in so we had a great view of the bridge and the water - The space itself is stacked full of wine, so if you're a wine fan you'll have a field day looking at all the labels - There was some nice furniture and a tv playing an old movie inside Overall: Our service was slow, the staff was nice enough to serve some snacks (nuts and cheese) for us while we waited. The gesture was nice, but we waited over an hour so I was hoping for something that would really blow me away (maybe that's just a bias I have), but just felt like it wasn't worth that long of a wait. While the food is still very good, post management change, the 'updated decor leaves much to be desired. The new tables are reminiscent of an upscale Denny's. The worst thing was the 20% 'gratuity' added to the bill. I asked the server about this, and I was told that this charge went primarily to kitchen and bus staff, and that she only got about 5% of it. The implication was that there should be an additional amount to cover the server. I left an additional 15%. The gratuity then came to 35% of the bill. This is an outrage. Why don't they pay kitchen and wait staff decently. After all, it IS an expensive place. I will not be returning to this restaurant. read more

What a strange restaurant. The food was fine, and I didn't mind the portion size as I'm not a big eater, but if you've got a healthy appetite be sure to order appetizers and a salad. There were no drinks on the menu other than alcohol. If you're not having alcohol, you can choose between still and sparkling water. Which is kinda weird but not the end of the world. Waitstaff was inattentive. It was a slow meal, not due to a pleasantly relaxed ambiance but because the waitstaff really just didn't seem to care. And there was just...some guy? Some guy was just sitting on the sofa (why is there a sofa in the middle of the restaurant?) drinking wine and occasionally chatting with the staff. It was not at all clear if he was a customer, a staff member, maybe connected to the staff somehow, no idea. But it was weird. I wouldn't come to this restaurant again on purpose. If someone offered to take me out to dinner here I wouldn't insist they change plans or anything, but the whole experience was just so odd. Retaliation for bad review. Customers for over 5 yrs from when Chef Bracamontes amazed us with his creations, we had given this place a 5 star review, however, our recent experience forced us to modify it. It is not about the food, unfortunately we never ate our pasta since it took over 52 minutes to make it available after we finished our salads. We pre-paid, waited at the front desk for a partial to-go order ; we had tickets for a show 2 blocks away. Food was placed in our trunk and when we got home after 3.5 hours it was a lump of gummy crap that ended up in the trash can. The upsetting issue was that this manager called us shortly after we left and began to explain that if we have tix to shows near by, we better show up earlier as it is suggested on website. Well, we do this about a dozen times/yr. We pointed out to him that his website also states "IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO DO SO, PLEASE CALL US AND PRE-ORDER YOUR APPETIZERS SO THEY ARE READY UPON YOUR ARRIVAL". We don't get appetizers nor desserts so we didn't pre-order anything. We never got an apology from this person, only condescending reprimands! He suggested next time we alert our waiter that we have a show to attend as we place our order. Well .. our waiter, Adian, was on top of it as "HE" was the one that asked if we are attending a show. Adian apologized several times for the kitchen delays ... this person then said: "well then, I will have to have a chat with that waiter" .. way to go, throw the great waiter under the bus but don't take any responsibility for your inability to manage & lead. This vindictive man took the time to actually have our 100 points on OpenTable reservation reversed and deducted from our account (Confirmation #: 24595) by falsifying a cancelling of our reservation 2 minutes after our conversation ended as if we were a no show. Seriously? That jeopardizes our OpenTable account. We have the Visa receipt & original OpenTable confirmation thanking us for the "Check-in". We filed a formal complaint with OpenTable against retaliatory actions by restaurants for negative reviews. We called the next morning to get his name & were told that was Michael K. himself, the owner... & manager .... + also that night's line cook. Wow .. a triple failure. Michael, mistakes happen, all you had to do was say we dropped the ball on this order. We hope you treat your wonderful staff with a lot more dignity & respect than we were treated. Lastly, at the start of our last phone call, you proclaimed " ... you are on a recorded line", that automatically grants both parties equal consent for that 4 minutes & 34 second call. Superb! It's not often my wife gets excited about a place, it has it all! The quality of the food for the price is spot on and the selection is good but not too much and it seems like it changes with the season as some of the photos on other reviews were not on the menu (which we love - you get a different experience every time!) The pasta is delicious and really high quality ingredients used with much care taken in the firmness of the pasta (super important) They have an incredible wine selection and their outdoor seating space is just fantastic, you could sit there enjoying the view for hours Also our waitress was so nice and experienced, she came around just at the right time and genuinely was happy that we were happy about the food :) And the view of the Willamette river, can't beat it! Highly recommend this place and we will be back! Even our picky seven year old didn't complain and actually liked it too!! read more

Originally, we were going to try Dough Zone but the wait was so long that we decided to go find something else. This restaurant was one that I wanted to try and we happen to get lucky because a reservation had just cancelled right before we had stopped by as a walk-in. We were excited to get a nice seat in the corner with a nice view of the river. FOOD: We first ordered a nice bottle of wine it was a really refreshing and crisp white (it was the Katari San Giorgio). We ordered an appetizer (the Bruschetta) and honestly I felt like this was better than the pasta itself. I got the Pomodoro pasta which was pretty good, I appreciated that the pasta was fresh, but the flavor was a little lacking after a bit. My partner got the Boscaiola pasta and it was way too salty for me. AMBIANCE: It was okay to me, there's a lounge-y sofa area next to some dining tables which was a little odd to me. The wine wall is really nice but the room feels a bit small. My number one feedback would be that the room felt awkward a bit because there was no music playing so when people left, it was so quiet and made it a bit awkward to have conversations. SERVICE/PRICE: This is where they lacked the most for me - we waited a bit over a hour to get our main entrees. The appetizer came pretty quick but the entrees felt like it took an eternity. It was one thing that the food was slow but it just didn't feel like the waitress was that empathetic to our situation. I made a comment about how long it's taking and that's when she brought out some snacks to nibble on while we wait. It wasn't only our table but there was another couple waiting for their food who was also asking how much longer it would be. Don't let the hunt to find this intimate restaurant have you second guessing your destination! It is on the boardwalk nestled right up alongside the Willamette River. My partner and I ordered bruschetta as a starter, and the ingredients were a great mixture of crisp, soft, and firm. Perfecto! I had the sweet Italian Ragu, and I can easily see why it's a popular dish. I ordered a glass of wine on a whim which I didn't quite prefer (entirely mu fault!) and the kind server dismissed it from our check and recommended a wine that was delightful. Honestly it wasn't the best experience. When we arrived, the hostess (who was a bit indifferent, not rude but like warm at all) showed us to a table in the back. Our server was very nice, even though the process of drinks and food was super long, she may have had a lot going on in the other room. We made a reservation for 7 people many days in advance--just know that if you do that no one will be able to get their own dishes and everything will be served "family style" because apparently they only have four burners in the kitchen... also you'll have to call and tell them the food that you want to order ahead of time. (I've never been to a restaurant that does that but what do I know). So we did, and then got reprimanded upon arrival by the waitress because they apparently lost our order that we placed on the phone, or just didn't write it down. The food was delicious though! We were about 15 min late to a reservation, 8 people, early on a Sunday. They weren't that busy (5pm in winter) but were still accommodating. Extra star for that. Service was SLOW. We were seated for over 10 minutes before we were even checked on for drinks. After delivering the drinks, it was still a good amount of time before the dinner order was taken. Several of us ordered the Caprese salad, and the rest did a family share of the Caesar. I had the Caprese and thought it was good. Others reported that the Caesar was good as well. We did the bread plate, without olives which added $$, but they delivered with olives anyway. Although there were nearly 20 main dishes to choose from, your choices are vegetarian, sausage, or shrimp for almost all of them. None of us found chicken on the menu. For my dish, which had sausage, I found 3 pieces about the size of a nickel in the dish overall. Food delivery seemed very timely after all the earlier delays from sitting down to drink orders. When the food was delivered to the table, half the table had hot food, 2 warm, and the rest were room temperature. We had to ask for extra cheese for pasta. Even at Olive Garden they ask if you want cheese and grate it fresh. They brought out parmesan cheese like you would put on a pizza More on the overall food from those I was with. One the sauce was runny, it wasn't so much a sauce but a liquid. One said her noodles didn't seem fully cooked. I would report that for mine as well. I would have preferred the noodles cooked a min or two longer. Maybe it is their recipe, but I don't think so. We were the only two at the table with that noodle type. We sat for quite a long time after dinner before we were asked 'what we wanted to do'. It was the strangest question. We asked for the check, passing on dessert after hearing the menu. She helped with every detail from securing our private room, selecting the menu of chef prepared gems, pairing wines, making sure everything was perfect upon our arrival, and ultimately spending the evening giving our team the best dining experience. The food - perfect, the wines - perfect, the service - perfect, the space - perfect, the staff - perfect! The resturant is cute and comfortable and the servers were nice and accommodating. (20% included in check) and they deserve that. Those are the only good points .THE FOOD IS TERRIBLE. My carbonara was not even edible, I had to them know I couldn't even eat it. My husbands was barely edible but we felt weird sending his back too. He ate it but hated it. Our daughters was just ok. The bread service was blah, expensive and maybe winco level bread and olives. Our bottle of wine we selected was jammy and good. They have a large list. The waitress told me she wouldn't be charging for the pasta like she was doing me a favor. Ummm I had one bite why would I think for a second I would be paying for it? I chose the Bolognese to compare with a family members and not close at all. My first impression was Hamburger Helper. I did enjoy the Caprese Salad. The service wasn't that great. Our waitress was not rude to us, just not attentive to our table. We went on a Saturday about 1pm. They had about 4 tables with customers. No line, but We waited about 10 minutes to be seated. Once seated we immediately ordered bread, a beer, sparkling water, and a bottled water. The beer was brought out immediately, and The bread not soon after. We got our entrees and finished eating and I realized I had nothing to drink. I asked for the waters we ordered and our waitress apologized and bring them out immediately. We took them to go. We sat outside because the weather was so nice. Lasagna is not served until 5 PM, so they altered their ravioli dish to include the sauce that they used for the lasagna and it was very delicious! We also had the alla monzese (with sausage and a saffron cream sauce) it wasn't bad, but it had an odd aftertaste that neither of us loved. we have eaten here for years and appreciated the incredible location for a nice meal and glass of wine. Our last meal was the 4th of July and it had been a year, but if it is now the standard for them, it has gone downhill. The bruschetta topping was barely warmed canned tomato which was quite wet. One person in our group liked it fine. The broccoli side dish had cut up salami pieces instead of the usual (and advertised) bacon. It was very undercooked- not charred at all. The pasta was ok and everyone ate it. The desserts were delicious, but I was surprised by the bruschetta and the broccoli. Hope this is not typical. The other surprise is that they now include 20% service in the bill which is just fine, but the server told us that did not cover her tip really because the service charge is shared (of course servers always used to divide tips between other staff), but she indicated 10% in ADDITION was a minimum and of course that was 10% on top of the total that already included the 20% so it was probably more like 15%. Where to start! ?!?! An empty restaurant with a reservation and still got sat at the server station where I can hear all the gossip but not get served in a timely matter. The food disgusting the drinks worse! A simple three ingredient cocktail should never taste worse than a dive bar well pour. The waitress/bartender whispering with attitude gave us terrible service it took her 27+ minutes to acknowledge us and take our order, we couldn't hear her at all! She only spoke up when she dropped off the check to let us know that 20% is being charged for gratitude but that she deserves more. Well absolutely not because no one was attentive from BoH to FOH. The dessert we got was a tiramisu and we spit it out! It was frozen and then left to thaw out to serve to guest! Worse experience ever! Hire better staff who love to work in this industry or hire me as a consultant. I do not recommend coming here until they teach their staff to understand what Great quality is ! One of my friends suggested we dine at Il Terrazzo, as we search for good Italian in Portland. I am so glad we did! Beginning with our arrival, the staff were amazing. They are clearly passionate about foot and wine, as they had amazing recommendations and knew the menu very well. We decided to enjoy the special cocktail, and we made such a good decision. The owner, Michael, did much of the service for us and we thoroughly enjoyed how his energy and passion complemented the meal. We were so happy to hear about his experiences in Italy, and how they mix their experiences abroad with the service at Il Terrazzo. We are the type of people who enjoy meals slowly, so we were glad that this restaurant takes their time preparing great food and that they give us space to relax and to chat. At the end of our time, Michael brought us some of their special wine to try. We loved it, and we cannot wait to return to try more food. I highly recommend going for a long walk beforehand along the river to enjoy the good weather, especially during springtime. We had an amazing dinner at Il Terrazzo. We had seen the restaurant on a walk and stopped by close to closing. Someone foolishly skipped their reservation and so we got a table outside. Our waiter, Michael, turned out to also be the chef/owner! We had the bread service with olives for an app....fabulous and we both had pasta for dinner. I love that the portions weren't excessive. We felt happy at the end and had room for desert...a super light tiramisu. We had a lovely chat with the chef and before we left he gifted us a bread! I am happy to report we made6 excellent sandwiches that we took on the long train ride from Portland to Chicago out of that. This was excellent Italian food and a great dining experience. If we get back to Portland we will go again (though we may make a reservation ahead next time!) read more
