Great ready for an adventure finding this place. Waze took us to a random parking garage in a condominium complex. Don't ket that foul you, find parking on the street. Walk through that complex, make a lift and it's just down the walkway. We had the Caprese, Carbonara, Tomorrow and tiramisu. The flavors where spot on and not overwhelming. The service was efficient. We came here on Fourth of July. The service was slow and lacking. We were a fairly big group and two people got their hot plates and then we sat and waited. It was a solid 10 min before a few other plates came out. The last persons order (the charcuterie plate) was the last to come out, a solid 15 min after the first crew got their food. They were done eating by the time it came out and there is no cooking and little prep involved w throwing crackers on a plate. Ambiance was nice but way too loud. We couldn't hear the person 2 seats over speaking to us. The 20% fee tacked on each check is tacky. Needless to say- we will not be back. read more

Nice waterfront location. One room was pretty loud and they also had a quieter room. Food was good (Traditional Bolognese) but the portion wasn't all that big, especially for the price. However, now on two different occasions, they have been very weird about the service charge and trying to force an additional tip. They told a group of customers near me that the service charge went to things like restaurant furniture and to the owner and it just felt very sleazy the way they were trying to milk more money out of the customer. Although I enjoyed the food, I have been so offput by the service charge issues that I won't be returning. The owner should be able to figure out how to make a profit off $30 pasta without adding a service charge to cover furniture. Kind of odd for an Italian restaurant, but like I said it was good. They also over cooked the seafood, it was very rubbery. Everyone had cocktails and wine, they were great! I have been frequenting this restaurant for about 6 years. Great location and and easy walk. In the last 2 years it has slowly changed, and not for the better. I am very sad to write this review. I can handle an off night we all have them. But to night was the last time I will chose to go there. The host was attentive. But that is were it ended. A waiter brought out our food mine was warm at best and not as tasty as previously. No one asked us was everything OK or did we need anything else. I wanted pepper after waiting for a bit and no one in sight, I was seated out side I had to go in and ask for pepper. I was handed a pepper mill. Thanks. My dinner was not worth the $29.00 nor the bread that was $8.00 4 tiny bite size pieces of focaccia and 6 slices of baguette with about a 1/4 of a cup of olive oil with half of it going to waste due to there was nothing to put in on. After the drop off of the food, service was over, They used to have a great wine selection that was reasonably priced, neither is the case at this time. I am so sad to see what has happened to this restaurant. I have no problem with tipping but for two people 20% was include, Gratuity means something given without obligation. The ambience of this spot was phenomenal, right next to the waterfront. The service was also great, and they always checked in on us to see if there was anything else we needed. I didn't love the bread service, found the bread to be a bit dry, however the lasagna and the pasta were good and had rich ingredients. This place is more fine dining, so more on the expensive side. We ate dinner here. Only a short walk along the river from the Kimpton where we were staying. We asked for an outdoor table and were seated at a table along the windows of the restaurant. Loved it so we could people and dog watch as we enjoyed a lovely evening. We started with the Caprese salad and bread with olives. Everything was so good. Caprese had a nice olive oil and balsamic vinegar topping. Fresh ingredients. For my entree, I chose the butternut squash ravioli. Nice and light with parm and no heavy sauces. Very good. You can change your hours to reflect when you close. Hours say till 9:00 pm. Arrived at 8:30 and was told they were no longer seating and they were closed. Saw that people were getting salads outside and asked to do a to-go order. Told the kitchen was closed: staff was rude and acted like we were in the wrong. Typical Portland. This delightful little spot right on the Willamette River is a great place for a romantic lunch. They have a deliciously different take on accommodating GF diners. My friends took me to dinner for my birthday and I was excited to go back to Il Terrazzo as it had been about 5 years. Although the food was good, the service was horrendous. Our waitress did not let us know there was a large wedding party in another room until after we ordered our food. As a result, we waited over 1 hour for our entrees (after the salad course). We ended up being there for almost 2.5 hours in total (as a party of 3). She could have told us in advance so we could have ordered sooner. They obviously didn't have enough kitchen staff to accommodate the party and the regular guests. Bad planning! The waitress came back once to let us know of the delay, but didn't say it was going to take that long. She came back about 30-40 mins later offering another drink (complimentary) as there was going to be more delay. We declined. In the end the restauarant did nothing to make up for the excessive delay, except to slap on an automatic 20% gratuity that the waitress pointed out was for "back of house/kitchen and herself." Then she gave us 3 cards for a complimentary pour for our next visit. They did not deserve a 20% tip (15% for bare minimum service level was more appropriate). What happened to the effort in making our current experience better rather than luring us back for more bad service with a free drink? They could have comp'd our first round of drinks very easily and we would have left thinking they wanted to make things right at that moment. While traveling home on vacation to our home in Eugene, we spent a day and night in Portland. On the recommendation of some friends who live in Portland, we tried Il Terrazzo. Excellent choice! We typically split, not to save money, but because most servings are simply too large and we would rather leave comfortable than massively stuffed. We paired a split Caesar Salad and Boscaiola with a couple of glasses of a local Cabernet Sauvignon. Everything was excellent! And... no split charge. Our server was pleasant and attentive. The location is right on the Portland Waterfront and within walking distance of our hotel. A win-win all around. Definitely will recommend. read more

Came for Valentines Day and unfortunately this restaurant just missed the mark completely for me. $8 bread service was just not that great, honestly kind of tasted old, but we did still finish it off with the pasta. We got the bolognese and the shrimp pasta, honestly the bolognese was bad, boyfriend didn't even finish it. We did take it home but it sat on the counter because nobody was interested. The shrimp al bianco was alright, it had plenty of shrimp so they didn't skimp on it, but also it's a $32 plate so that's what I would expect. The service was fine, no issues there. Of course it's a romantic vibe in here, it really reminded me of going to a winery. For the price point I would advise against coming and just going elsewhere. Nothing was special or mindblowing for $30 for a pasta dish, honestly. I've had much better food for cheaper / more expensive. I don't believe price ever dictates quality, and this place certainly does not. Nothing was absolutely terrible, but when you're spending $70 on just 3 dishes (including the bread) and it isn't tasting that amazing, it's just disappointing. There's just definitely much better food out there, especially in Portland. Also a quick sidenote about how to get here, honestly we were looking for it for about 10 minutes driving around in circles before realizing it is inside of the hotel in the area. So just know you have to park somewhere, walk down to the hotel main lobby, go insude, go down the stairs and then it leads to outside. We like to try a different Italian restaurant on our anniversary (this, number 43), and we are thrilled with this year's selection, I'll Terrazzo, on the waterfront. We started with salads, which were a delicious blend of arugula, goat cheese and tomatoes or beets, all with a drizzled balsamic dressing. It was a very good serving too! We had a small bottle of an organic Malbec, an Argentinian red that was hearty but not too heavy. My wife had Greco, a vegan pasta dish to which she added shrimp. My dish was a Bolognese style ragu. Both dishes were fabulous. I've never had as good a ragu, which they stew for six hours. We topped it all off with coffee and dessert. My cannolis were made with a blend of raspberry and vanilla flavored creme. Yum! The ambience was elegant and friendly. A lovely anniversary dinner. read more

It did not feel intimate....VERY EXPENSIVE..... the meatballs were too firm/ over cooked but, the biggest shock was the service fee that was added to our already over$200 bill. I do not appreciate a fee without my consent and then also expecting a20% tip.. that would have been $80 in service/ tip fees.. then the bill is almost$300 for 4 people. It upset the end of our experience because we felt bad for the server who was already explaining service fee to the table beside us.... it's puts servers in a very bad position and left us with a negative attitude about this restaurant. That should NEVER be added to the bill without explanation.. then we the patron can decide if we want to dine there.... maybe some people can afford and want to tip a40% tip.. not in my world is there restaurant where 40% is just taken for granted. That's our decision as a patron to decide our tip based on satisfaction. BURRATA Creamy burrata cheese served with arugula, tomato, and balsamic. This dish didn't win me over; I felt like it was missing something... TRADITIONAL BOLOGNESE Slow-cooked meat ragu simmered for 6 hours and served with fresh tagliatelle pasta! I had to try this classic dish, and it didn't disappoint. Its simplicity and bold flavors were delightful. The sauce had a great balance of acidity, though a tad oily. ZAFFERANO Penne bathed in a creamy sauce infused with the rich flavor of saffron. The saffron adds a floral note that elevates the dish in a sophisticated manner. I really enjoyed this pasta--trying it was a treat, especially since saffron is so boujeeeee. However, I probably wouldn't order it again. My husband didn't like the prominent saffron flavor. TIRAMISU No Italian date night is complete without tiramisu, and Il Terazzo's version is a winner. Layers of espresso-soaked ladyfingers nestled in velvety mascarpone cream strike the perfect balance between sweet and creamy. This was a last minute decision since we were down by the marina and it was very nice. We were seated in the bar, which was cozy and had a nice view out over the river. D'Layne was our server and she was so helpful. She'd actually tried most of the menu and so could give us good advice, which we needed since most of the dishes were unfamiliar. We started with the soup of the day and the Caesar salad. Both were good but the soup - tomato bisque - was rich and creamy and perfect for a cold wet winter night. The fresh mint popped and set it apart from the usual bisque. We then had the Boscaiola and the Burro Di Salvia. The Boscaiola was rich and creamy with sausage and mushrooms. First I would like to let you know that there is a time limit on the tables. There was nothing on the menu, website or from the wait staff that told us that. Once we paid our check one waitress said stay as long as you like followed by another waitress telling us we needed to leave because they had another reservation for the table. The location is great. The table/chairs not so comfortable. We had a reservation. Somehow we ended up with two waitresses and were asked the same questions twice... Very odd. We both had the traditional Bolognese... Im generally an understanding person when a restaurant says they are short staffed and every step of the dining experience is a very long wait. Very... Very... long. During the dinner you receive nothing more than your meal brought to you. No bread offer, no pepper for your salad. No additional beverage. No bill. You then have to walk to someone after another long wait to pay your bill, and They have a never to charge you ahead a 20% gratuity. Which wasn't told to you ahead of time. The service wasn't even close to deserving a gratuity like that. It's embracing and bold to think you are owed something you didn't earn. read more

To Samantha J (management): Evidently, at least one server on your team did not get the message after another review was left last month about servers requesting an additional tip on top of the automatically-added 20%. She played the game with the table next to us, telling them that the 20% service charge was divided amongst all employees and it was not her tip. At the end of our meal, she tried the same thing with us. Sorry, but service charge=gratuity=tip. And 20% for 3 people is more than enough, especially when you charge $7 for 6 very small and thin slices of bread and $33 for a plate of tortelloni. One appetizer, bread, an iced tea, three pastas, one dessert and a cup of hot tea came to $153 with tip included. We dined here early this evening and our server (can't recall her name, but she was wearing a long black dress slit up to her thigh) was what I would call "intrusive", asking us how everything "was looking" before we had even taken a bite of our entrees, whisking away plates the moment they emptied (even asking to remove bread plates without first asking if we thought we would like more bread - which we did). The food seems to have gone downhill from when we visited last year as well. I ordered the pasta Amatriciana, and our server immediately asked if I was ok with "heat" and said the dish was quite spicy. I assured her that's why I was ordering it. When it arrived there was NO SPICE whatsoever. (I mean NOTHING). I had to ask her for some red chili flakes and some salt because it was so bland. My husband's pasta puttanesca was undercooked to the point where al dente would have taken at least another minute of cooking. My father did enjoy his tortelloni, but we were seated just past 5:00pm and were told that his order was the last available for that dish (?!). We ordered a tiramisu for dessert (honestly, the highlight of the meal) and two coffees. Our server came back to tell us that the coffee machine was broken and just spitting out hot water. All in all, a disappointing dinner and in no way similar to the lovely experience we had a year ago. But for goodness sake, PLEASE tell your server to stop telling people that your 20% service charge doesn't cover her tip - or get rid of her, she is bad for business. read more

Hands down the best Italian spot in Portland! I knew I was in for a great meal when I wanted to try every single item on the menu. The Amatriciana I had was incredible. Rich with so many layers of flavor, freshness, and spice. Truly one of those cases where I left full, but I didn't want the meal to end. The atmosphere is very cozy, much more laid back, with most customers in casual clothes. The restaurant overlooks the Portland waterfront, which at night, certainly lends to a magical air. It's really such a great spot for date night. The staff were all very kind and helpful, offering their opinions and being overall so friendly. Our server, who happened to pick out the featured red/white wine, did not hesitate to admit she did not like the featured white, and instead offered a different route that ended up being absolutely perfect. I have not had too many incredible experiences with Italian food in Oregon, despite living here my entire life, but safe to say that I will be returning many times to Il Terrazzo! read more

I live in the neighborhood and I need variety.It's nice to see people enjoying meals on the Esplanade with the view of the river, but those of us who live here wish menu changes would happen more frequently. There was some management changes and fairly extensive wait staff changes The initial hiccups that inevitably happen with changes seem to have been overcome. Some prices have inched up a bit but servings have decreased somewhat. Food was still pretty good,service was good. Nice ambiance no too loud. However they now have a 20 % service charge. I questioned the manager about this since my concern is the corp takes a cut before it's distributed. She assured me that was not the case, it was done to make sure everybody shares in the tips. That really doesn't make sense since on a receipt the tips are itemized separately totals are easily calculated then that can be distributed easily and equally I have noticed that mandatory service charges are creeping in in other restaurants which I find is unacceptable If you find it unacceptable please voice your opinion to management How read more

The food was good, but not great. You may disagree, but as a foodie I wasn't blown away by anything, which was a little disappointing.
