I loved the Tagliatelle eggplant dish, but I wish I'd asked for some parmesan cheese on it. The big surprise for me was the Waygu Beef Carpaccio appetizer. Recently sat down at IL Venetian for dinner in celebration of my nieces high school graduation. Upon arriving to our reservation we were whisked away to our table. For starters we choose the Calamari and Gamberi. Both appetizers were flavorful however the Gamberi was one of my favorites as it was a great balance of flavors and resembled a shrimp ceviche. For our main entrees I selected the Grilled Long Bone Veal Chop and my hubby selected the Spaghetti. The veal chop was accompanied by a delicious mushroom truffle sauce which complimented the dish so well. My husband dish was a beautiful medley of seafood that melted in your mouth. We enjoyed great service. Our meal came out timely and was very hot. IL Venetian is perfect for all occasions even a solo dining experience and I look forward to my next visit. read more

Good, but not great. Came in on a Friday night before a show at Playhouse Square. Was promptly seated and told our server about our plans and need to get out of here by 7:00. With 90 minutes to play with, it didn't seem like a problem. I started with the clam chowder and my daughter had a Caesar salad. Great presentation on both, but the chowder was thin and had a vinegary twang to it. Not enough to send it back, but odd nonetheless. Focaccia bread and an olive oil blend was also on the table, which was to die for! For dinner I had the chicken parm. I will say the chicken itself was the best I've ever had. Pounded thin, crispy, large and for the first time ever, bone in. Not sure where that bone originated, but it was a great presentation. And the chicken was tender and juicy, covered with an ample amount of cheese. However, the pasta portion was small, only making it through half the chicken on the plate. More importantly, though the red sauce was abundant, it lacked a lot of flavor. More like a tomato sauce than a marinara. Adding salt helped, but it was disappointing given the outstanding chicken. I was also a bit disappointed that our waiter offered fresh Parmesan well after I had started eating. My daughter had the rigatoni and really liked it, though it was a bit too much meat for her (no fault of the restaurant). It came with 2 meat balls, 2 sausage links and a braised short rib. I had a couple of bites and found it good as well, though the same bland red sauce that was on my chicken parm. For dessert we had the Budino Al Cioccolato and the homemade limoncello. The chocolate was warm and delicious, though I was expecting a molten center (my bad). I got the limoncello without really knowing what it was. It was marketed as the Chef's homemade concoction, which I found intriguing. Google told me a bit more of what I was to expect, indicating it was served 'ice-cold.' For whatever reason, our server put our order in for it to be served neat. That was not good. A few ice cubes from my water glass helped it, but disappointed I wasn't given an option when it was ordered. Regarding our server, he was very knowledgeable and I enjoyed ordering from him. However, he was well aware of our time constraints and although we were presented with dessert menus well in advance of our departure, he seemed overwhelmed with larger tables and took far too long to refill our waters, bring the dessert, and bring the check, which came after my drop dead time of 7:00. I also ordered a glass of Merlot which he recommended that I wasn't enthusiastic about, though the maple old fashioned was delicious, as was the pistachio espresso martini my daughter had. One last point, if this is your first time here, the valet parking was kinda goofy. Dropped off the car without incident, but then received a text message from the garage welcoming me to it and telling me I didn't have to do anything other than drive out when we left, as they had my card on file. I realized the valet parked in a garage I had used in the past and license plate readers connected it to my text message. However, we still had to pay the valet to get the car back and I was concerned about having to pay twice. When I asked the valet guys, they assured me that would not happen, and they were right. Regardless, would have been nice to know up front. We visit "Il Venetian" as often as possible but it's been a while since I made comment. So I think it's about time. We visited last night with friends that had not been there but heard us talk about our experience and couldn't wait to try. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The 4 of us entered the very impressive establishment with it's beautiful decor and marvelous chandeliers[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] to be greeted by a very kind gentleman who verified our reservation and immediately took the ladies coats. He then escorted us to our table. The first table had seats that were too low for my very petite wife so we asked if another was available. Without hesitation he immediately took us to the perfect table. Within moments a very nice gentleman by the name of Clancy introduced himself as our server for the evening. He asked what type of water we preferred and provided it immediately. After taking our drink order he allowed us a bit of time to scan the menu. Upon his return we began placing our order for the evening. However, other than a starter of "Cacio e Pepe" I was unable to make up my mind; nothing was ringing my bell. Clancy inquired if there was something I was in the mood for. I asked if there was anything with lamb available. He indicated there was nothing on the menu but he would inquire with the Chef. He returned shortly to tell me the Chef had some very nice chops and I told him to prepare them any way he saw fit. I was entirely in his hands. Needless to say when our food arrived everyone was thrilled with their selection... especially me. Four of the most beautiful chops, covered in a marvelous Demi-Glace arrived accompanied by perfectly prepared fingerling potatoes and broccolini. Needless to say, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The Chef and his entire staff are magical. My compliments to them all. After dinner we enjoyed coffee along with a couple of shared Pistachio Affogato. Absolutely everything was extraordinary... as always. "Il Venetian" is clearly one of my favorite establishments in Cleveland. We will continue to patronize them and bring our friends. From the time we entered this lovely restaurant, service was attentive! The beautiful decor has an old school charm of elegance. We dined early and glad we did as we had a waiter all to ourselves! I enjoyed the Verona cocktail with house bread with flavorful Olive oil! I decided to try the Veal stuffed Agnolotti pasta as I had never heard of this dish. No apps or salad for me as I wanted to be able to finish my dinner. I truly enjoyed my pasta, but after a bite of the veal chop and potato, I decided that this is what I would order if I return to dine at Il Venetian! It was that delish and I would give it a a 5 on the Yummos scale! It was that delish! So well executed except for being a little more done than medium rare. Still the meat was oh so tender and paired perfectly with the potato! I couldn't finish my pasta, but enjoyed an espresso martini! Interesting space with odd but comfortable seating "spaces." Hard to get a sense of the whole place due to nooks, crannies and corners but still pleasant. Wonderful see through wine wall. Service was impeccable, shout out to our waitress Caris. Friendly, attentive and knew the menu. My guest had the Rigatoni which she loved. I enjoyed one of the best Caesar Salads I've had in a while with real anchovies which I love! My entree which was waitress recommendation, was the Veal Chop Parmigiana with spaghetti. Absolutely worth the return visit! We came back for the second time and were able to book a reservation the same day with no problem. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by the hosts who even welcomed us back -- such a thoughtful touch! This time around, we tried the calamari, the pork chop, and the pasta with mushrooms. Everything was delicious, but the pork chop stole the show -- it was divine! Huge portion, juicy and flavorful, with cheese that oozes out in the best way. I'll definitely be ordering that again. Everyone was attentive. 4 stars instead of 5 for inconsistent portion sizes. My husband got the agnolotta pasta, which was a super teeny tiny portion...appetizer-like. While fantastically delicious, it was too small as an entree so we switched meals as mine, the seafood spaghetti, was ginormous. If he had known, he'd have ordered a secondi piatti. A little more communication on the dish sizes is warranted. Like I said, the waiter did indicate the larger portioned dishes, but maybe should have likewise mentioned the small ones. I also didn't like being forced to order our entire meal at once. It sort of took away from the fancy ambiance a bit and I felt a little rushed. I like to pace my meals as I see fit. I wanted to love this place, as I'm a huge fan of Marble Room. I guess it was good for what it is - a hotel restaurant. The ambiance was already killed trying to navigate our way through the noisy and crowded hotel lobby with people dressed in sweatpants while you're dressed to the nines. Once we found the restaurant, after having to ask, we discovered it to be fairly small. Tall ceilings and elegant chandeliers, but still had hotel vibes. They make all the pasta in house, so that's a plus. However, the sauces in their pasta dishes are hands down the worst I've ever had. Now I admit I have a high standard for Italian food, but this just really missed the mark for me. We did start out with calamari, which was a crazy big portion. It was pretty good. Not the best I've had, but it was prepared well. We also split a beet salad which was delicious. But the pastas were where it fell apart. My boyfriend ordered the rigatoni with pork shoulder that was fall off the bone. Cooked correctly, yes, but also flavorless. It just tasted like unimpressive meat. You would hope the sauce could save it, but it was awful. We both likened it to tasting like Chef Boyardee. It was sweet in the worst way and just had a horrible flavor profile. I got the gnocchi and vodka sauce, and added a meatball. I'm glad I did because the meatball was the best part, but I didn't even like it that much. The gnocchi is made with ricotta, so it's even fluffier than typical gnocchi. Not sure if I liked it or not, but the vodka sauce also had a very odd flavor to it - super creamy, not a lot going on, just very disappointing. They also were struggling with having wines in stock, so beware if you order a bottle it may take a few tries before they find one they actually have in stock. This wasn't awful food, but for this price point, and for this restaurant group, I expected a lot better. I definitely won't be revisiting, but I'm glad I can finally check it off my list. To be honest, I probably wouldn't eat here again even if I was staying at the hotel. So many other impressive restaurants in Cleveland, including Italian ones. I'm pretty confused by the rating for this place, but maybe it's a lot of out of town visitors that haven't had better Italian in the area? Or a halo effect from Marble Room? read more

If you are staying at Marriott Key Tower, this is a great restaurant to go to! Located on the main floor, the interior of the restaurant is very nice and the food is very good. The wine prices are very reasonable. The bread is delicious and comes with side of olive oil and seasoning. I got the walleye entree special which was great. On the 2nd visit, I got the salmon and it was ok. I probably would have ordered something different. They have homemade pastas which look pretty good (was eyeing some tables around us that had ordered pastas). You can make reservations on open table as well. I recently had dinner at the II Venetian with a friend of mine. It was a wonderful experience. You can vallet your car outside the restaurant or the Marriott entrance. I do recommend the Marriott entrance if you are coming from the highway! The ambiance was amazing. It was not too loud but not quiet where I didn't need to watch my volume too much. My server was very attentive. They gave me recommendations based off foods that I enjoy which I appreciated. For my appetizer I ordered the waygu carpaccio . It was served with cheese and truffle chunks. The truffle was a nice touch and complimented the dish very well. For my entree I ordered the lamb chops. They were very tender and had a nice balance between the fat and the meat. I loved how it came with asparagus and potatoes. It was a special that they were having that evening. Il Venetian is located inside the Marriot hotel. The resteraunt is beautiful with high ceilings and lots of natural light coming in through the windows, they have a big chandelier in the middle. My friends and I came here before a comedy show(Jeff Arcuri he is great grandfathers see him). We walked in and we're greated by the hostesses and were immediately seated after they checked my coat. We sat near the bar area, we were all excited to have some good Italian food and we were not disappointed. We started out ordering drinks my two friends got coffee martinis, my husband had a whiskey neat, and I had the Venetian Spritz. All the drinks were delicious no complaints at all. Appetizers, the calamari and the Wagyu Carpaccio. Both were really good, the calamari was battered perfectly and were a big hit. My husband and I shared the beef Carpaccio which was phenomenal, super soft with very nice flavor and the Truffle ontop was delicious! My husband ordered the lamb shank, my friends got the Rigatoni, and the lobster ravioli, and I got the filet Mignon. Everything came out nice and hot and smelled so yummy. Unfortunately, my husband ordered his shank medium and they brought it well done so he sent it back, it was super over. While he waited though the chef sent him over the most delicious pasta. It was the agnolotti because it was stuffed with veal and it was delicious. I will definitely order that next time i come. Either way that little pasta dish was amazing. Everything else came out perfectly cooked and delicious. My husband received his lamb shank after a few more minutes which compared to the pasta was nice but that pasta dish he got was the star. We then decided to order another drink. The guys got the old fashion, my girl friend got a red wine, and I got the Sicilian Sunset which was very good. First off don't be afraid of the word. Fine dining with this place. Is it fine dining yes but it is affordable fine dining not the typical small plate overpriced place. I am a big guy and I left not wanting anything else to eat. With tip the dinner cost me $70 and let me tell you it's worth every penny they brought out my Caesar salad. The lettuce was crisp and crunchy and the dressing tasted fresh. Next course was the 60 salmon usually, I am quite cynical about the salmon, but it was how it should be perfectly cooked, flaky and melting in your mouth not heavily oiled or seasoned. I got a side of broccoli to go along with it. I like it a little al dente and that's how they gave it to me upon request. I got a glass of dry red to go with it if you want to treat yourself or your spouse or partner to find dining under $200 this is the place to go. For a hotel restaurant this is a very good place to go. Some places in CLE are so full of CLE snobs (as we call it, Marbleroom for example) who think they are important and we care they walked in. We went during lunch and the Venetian was full of very normal, polite, well dressed business clientele. Only downside is if you walk in the hotel lobby area you might feel over dressed but who cares right? Great food, service and crowd. read more
