The inside has curated, individual themes for four - five table settings while there is a wine store and larger, traditional dining section for parties of 4+. The flights were interesting and overall really tasty. I felt like it was a generous pour that worked out to a little more than 1 glass total which was reflected in the pricing as well. The decor is really cute. We had a group of 7 able to sit down immediately with no reservation on a Saturday night. The music was great and not too loud. Service wasn't the most attentive, I felt like at times I would have liked more water or to get the check faster. The worst part was the cheese board- the menu has a variety of different charcuteries and we assumed by ordering the cheese listing it would have more cheese than other components but I would describe what we got as an average charcuterie. Also had no explanation of the cheeses or other accouterments which didn't really fit with the detail oriented nature of the wine tastings. Disclaimer, this review is a few weeks old*** Visited in a group setting. Was not my first choice as I don't drink wine often. Couples event with the Mrs. Meaning I'm required to attend. I found myself enjoying the experience despite my general distaste for wine bars. Quiet on the inside which I can appreciate, fast service and a large selection. I also will admit I spent a decent chuck of the experience watching the Michigan State game. This space had me at hello with its black and white patterns outside. I decided to attend a friend's private event in this space this week. They did a great job! The staff is kind and very prompt to getting a drink in your hand. They offer flights, it's their namesake after all, of wine that you can try! They have a very extensive wine list but I loved the concept of their wine flights, which let you taste a few types and especially good if you're feeling indecisive or noncommittal. Flight Cleveland is amazing! We stopped in on a whim and made a dinner out of cheese and wine. Fine by me! Pro tip, there is a small parking lot with free parking behind Flight Cleveland. The spots aren't the easiest to negotiate, but off street free parking is a huge plus. Flight Cleveland is a hip comfortable place that offers up small bites, wine flights, wines by the glass, and beer. We tried three flights, the Viva Iberico, Pinot Pinot Pinot, and Can you say that again? They were all fantastic and our three favorite wines of the evening came one each from all of the flights. For the wine nerds among us, they also include cards with information on the wine, tasting notes, and a price for the bottle with each wine in the flight. We also tried the We Like Cheese cheese board with five cheeses. At $20, I initially thought this was on the pricey side, but after I saw how much cheese we got, I totally changed my mind! This is a TON of high quality cheese! We also took a walk around the wine shop after our cheese and wine flights. We were so happy to see they had a hard to find Basque wine, txakolina. Yay! We can almost never find this wine in the states and were so happy to take home a bottle. This is just what Gordon Square needed and they couldn't have picked a better neighborhood. I tried the flight of red blends and really liked them all. Great spot in Gordon Square! The space provides a laid back but casual space to come with friends and relax. The design and flow of Flight Cleveland is gorgeous. The bar area reminds me of a Gatsby type era. I've been twice now and highly recommend getting the side of nuts with any wine pairing! My out of town friends love coming here to enjoy wine that we never have tried before. If you liked a wine you tried, you can take the info card with you or simply purchase a bottle right there! Was so excited for this place to open and it did not disappoint! The menu is simple but full of variety. Pick a pre-chosem flight or make your own. Or just have a sample. Or a glass. You know what? Make it a bottle. The food is wine-worthy snacks. Cheese, charcuterie, nuts, olives, and chocolate. We shared 2 flights and a cheese plate. The flights were in threes and served in a stemless wine glass and presented in a simple black wooden box. Each wine had its own little card that reminded me of Trivial Pursuit cards with tasting notes and the retail price of a bottle. We enjoyed taking turns reading the cards to each other as we tasted. But the sommeliers are there to help too, if you wanted, and we found everyone to be quite friendly. The cheese was also delicious and was paired with some olives, dried fruits, pickled veggies, honey, and some breads. The place is super cute with exposed brick walls and plenty of seating. Victorian loungey chairs, loveseats, traditional tables, and of course, the bar. Which is where we sat, because that's usually my favorite choice. The little retail section had so many great selections. A manager mentioned its haphazardly displayed on purpose. Meaning its not separated by wine type or region. The idea is to discover something new. He did say if you really want to be pointed to something specific, they can help. The wines were all reasonably priced, so go ahead and buy a few. My understanding is you can also pick a wine off the shelf and drink it there for a nominal corkage fee. So many options! I stopped in on a Sunday afternoon specifically for the wine and waffle pairing they were promoting on social media. I'd say my first experience was A-Ok. I got street parking (be careful, if you park in the small lot and take a spot meant for a tenant you'll need to move or get towed). You can sit at the bar, at a table, or cozy up on the couch. A bit chilly inside though and I was wearing a sweatshirt. You can do flights, glasses, or get a bottle from their store and drink it there for a $12 corkage fee. No happy hour. Limited food selection (think nuts, olives, cheese/meat boards). Staff is friendly, patient, attentive, and helpful. I love exploring all of the drink/food pairings around Cleveland. Usually you buy a ticket on Eventbrite that includes everything then just show up and get your goods and enjoy. Here things were a bit different. No advanced sales (no need to, only a handful of people there). Waffles were a separate purchase from the wine. I'd prefer one transaction, but not a big deal. I was expecting this to be like the pairing events I am used to attending (beer/donuts, beer/pie, wine/cookie dough, etc) but this was more like come drink wine and if you feel like it we have this guy selling waffles in the other room. Not much of a collaboration between the products it seemed (no wine infused batter/syrup). If you did decide to get waffles the wait time was awkwardly long between getting served your wine flight and getting the waffles. I understand, waffles are made fresh and he was on his own with only two waffle makers, I just wanted to enjoy the drinks and waffles at the same time because I thought this was a pairing. So I just sipped on water and browsed Reddit while I waited. *Waffles were made by Hungry Bear $10 - Three quarters of a waffle all with different toppings. Love the idea, but they hardened up fast and I broke a tine on the plastic fork they gave me. I found myself wishing there was more sauce or syrup I could add to soften up the bites. The waffle with bacon and blue cheese whip cream was the best. *Through Rosé Colored Glasses Flight $11.50 - Three 2oz samples of different Rosé. Each sample comes with a little card providing details about the wine. I did not care for any these. Usually if you're suggesting a specific wine be paired with a specific food it's because it brings out the flavors and elevates the experience. I was left wondering if they really thought rosé and waffles paired well or if they were just promoting their new rosé wines? *Chambong Tapiz Torrontes $7 - Like a beer bong but with wine/champagne, so classier? A gimmick, but fun to try. So yeah, my first experience at Flight Cleveland was not the best, but it wasn't a bad one either. Perhaps just some misunderstanding over what they advertised as a pop up/pairing, and my experience with pairings made me have higher expectations. Also, they didn't make the waffles, but they partnered with the vendor so it all gets included in the review. However, I will definitely be giving them another shot. Now that I know the setup I'd like to try them again, but without their recommendations and no pop ups. Flights of red wine with a cheese board while relaxing on their sofa sounds like a better time. We went to Flight last Saturday evening to check it out, and have a glass of wine. We found the atmosphere nice, but the foul musty smell like mould was unpleasant. The server was good, but they they insisted they take a credit card before we were served. We were at a table, not the bar. The four of us felt like they thought we would run out without paying. This was off-putting to say the least. The policy of a $12. corking charge seemed high, as we bought the bottle from them. Maybe if they worded the charge differently it wouldn't have felt like gouging. Probably will not go back as there are many other places to go and not feel offended. read more
