This is one of the most hip places in Cleveland!! Seriously! I'm a Clevelander (at least for now), grew up here, watched downtown plummet, rise, fall, and now is on the incline again. This is thanks to places like Centro! A fun bar with a really great menu. Their drinks are great, they know how to lean into their pour! The ambiance is very fun and hip. Great place to meet out of town friends. The food is good, and has a fun menu that includes good pizzas (they need to really crisp up their dough, though). The lobster bisque is excellent, and they have a nice selection of sandwiches and appetizers. Just a great meeting place for other Clevelanders, or out of towners. Shocked this place doesn't have 5/5 stars! We experience was exceptional! Our server was Eric and he was extremely kind and very thorough. Our table was large and we had several dietary restrictions, which for someone (myself) who served and bartended an extended amount of time-I agree it can be challenging. Eric never one made a face or seemed annoyed by our necessary requests. He was kind and extremely helpful to accommodate our table needs. Eric gets a 7/5 star in our book! We started with the stuffed mushrooms and the polenta cakes. Both were fantastic. I'm not a huge mushroom person and they were packed with flavor and a generous amount of stuffing. I chose the bucatini with seafood for my entree, my sister selected the sea bass, mom got the pesto, and my husband got the bucatini as well! The rest of the table made an array of choices that I cannot remember. My bucatini, I kid you not, was just as tasty as the pasta dishes we had in Italy the month prior. It was packed with flavor & the amount of mussels was very generous!! I would absolutely order it again! Mom's pesto was equally tasty, I loved the small bites I was given! I do like a good espresso martini, and that was a good espresso martini. I sat at the bar, ordered my drink, and my bartender made the best espresso martini I've ever had. I started out upstairs at the garden of Eden and felt that the service there was terrible, rude, and they closed early for being slow. I ordered two dirty martinis, and the bartender literally, and I quote said: "that is the last drink I want to make tonight." She literally walked away without another word. She charged us $16 for each martini and they were served in tiny plastic cups. My leaving the upstairs rooftop bar was a blessing in disguise because I ended up getting such a great espresso martini from Joe at the bar by the lobby. I'll be back, cheers! read more

To start we did not have great service. The waiter talked so low that I couldn't understand him. The drinks were very good. We ordered a half a charcutier board. My fault for not asking what kinds of cheese were on it. I asked what one of the cheeses was and his was response was I think bleu cheese. I allergic to that so is it or is it not? Then I asked if there were any specials. His response was not really. So I order the Seabass. I've been looking forward to this fish all week. I was inedible. Tasted like rubber. they take that back and I asked for the short ribs. Mind you the two things I ordered are 2 of my favorite things to eat. The meat was tender but again the flavor was terrible. I first visited at the end of December 2022 for lunch and I definitely will be back to dine in. I debated between giving a 3 or 4 stars but a 3 seems fair for now because I've only been here once and it was a takeout order. CENTRO recently changed their menu, interior design, and restaurant name. It used to be called ADEGA but the owner decided to change things up. The interior looks very fancy which matches with the already fancy theme of the hotel (the restaurant is inside the Metropolitan at the 9 hotel). LUNCH -- On 12 Dec. 2022, I ordered the Chicken Pesto Wrap ($15) to go. It was absolutely delicious and it came with truffle fries. I also bought a side of crispy brussel sprouts with bacon ($12) which at first bite, tasted great. Since I only had one bite of the brussel sprouts, I left it at my work fridge and decided to eat it the next day. As I ate it, I realized that the brussel sprouts were burnt (a bit overcooked) and had too much oil in them. It was just too oily and inedible so I was disappointed. I mostly picked out the crispy bacon to eat. Overall, Centro has great potential in downtown Cleveland. If you don't mind spending $15-$25 on lunch then give them a try. Prices are definitely steep but that's expected for a downtown restaurant. Very well-run restaurant in downtown Cleveland. Not cheap but a good value these days. Great service, upscale, spacious decor, and terrific food. We had the lamb chops, Nonna's meatballs, lobster ravioli, wedge salad and Caesar salad. Chops were perfect medium-rare with a nice char, ravioli pasta was al dente and homemade with chunks of lobster, meatballs were huge (4!), salads were fresh and loaded with cheese. The Centro is such a pretty restaurant in the center of downtown Cleveland. It was super easy to get a reservation and wasn't too busy when we went on sunday around noon. My partner and I ordered the bagels and lox pizza, the cinnamon batter brioche french toast, and the loaded truffle fries. The bagels and lox pizza wasn't a traditional pizza, but was fun, especially as we both love bagels and lox. The french toast was simple without being too sweet, accompanied by a couple berries. The loaded truffle fries were the perfect combination of rich, savory, and cheesy. I did wish they had some other options, not sure exactly what, felt like something was missing. I think it's because most of their brunch options were savory and sometimes I want something sweeter. The waiter Maurice was exceptionally gifted in his trade. He didn't overcrowd are party of four but was attentive and polite! He alone made the night memorable as we were there because of a birthday celebration. I would come back and experience his tact and professionalism again. But not because of the food, it was very disappointing, I had the rack of lamb and it was burnt, I still have the burnt taste in my mouth now. Our first visit was Tuesday evening hosting a friend from SoCal. I booked the reservation after seeing a spot about it on Fox8. Originally booked via OpenTable for 8pm we were able to shift without issue to 6:30pm. The overall vibe seems to be chic modern. We sat and our a person came up and asked about water. After ordering we found out he was our waiter, Joey. Joey had a relaxed demeanor during our visit. We looked through the drink menu and found out that some of their cocktails were made in advance bulk. After determining which ones were not, we made our beverage order. Bread service arrived. It was rustic bread with an olive oil mixture. Barely enough mixture for the bread provided. We ordered a charcuterie with reviewing the menu. We were surprised there were no gluten free bread or crackers available for the charcuterie. We ended up ordering a mix of appetizers for our dinner and their Rustic Pizza Margherita. The appetizers included Mussels, Caesar Salad, Lobster Bisque, and a Salad with Grilled Chicken Breast. My wife and a split the Caesar. Her Rustic Pizza was indeed very rustic, perhaps too rustic. I thought the Caesar Salad was too light on the dressing and my wife actually asked for more dressing. My Mussels were delicious! A definite do over. Our friend really enjoyed the Lobster Bisque and her Salad with Grilled Chicken. We ordered another round of adult beverages, wine and Knob Creek Manhattans. The Manhattans were very tasty! For the prices I was expecting something along the lines of The Capital Grille, it was actually less. Perhaps it was because it was Tuesday? Not sure. The server couldn't have appeared more disinterested and the dessert was disappointing. Not only did the piece of tiramisu we were served look half eaten, but it was bland and one of the worst ones I have had in a long time. The restaurant had been nicely remodeled from the former Adega which was in this space. I loved the multi-panel canvas Cleveland art work. The tables were beautiful - large live wood pieces, but their legs were so large and the tables so heavy you basically had to climb into the booth seating which was comical. For an appetizer we tried the stuffed mushrooms. They had Italian sausage in them, but I felt the flavor was missing a punch. I was disappointed and probably wouldn't order them again. I enjoyed the bolognese pasta which I shared as a kind of side dish. For my main I got the braised short rib which was flavorful and nicely done. The food was mid, I got braised short rib and it wasn't amazing - reminded me of a pot roast with gravy instead of elevated. The sangria was decent too. A bunch of small cuts eventually will bring down Goliath. We were seated and the waitress came over. I asked for a beer list and was advised they don't have one. We ordered two apps and two soups. We were told one of the apps was not available. When we were ready to place our main course order we were then told that they were out of all veil and the lobster pasta. After we all picked other main courses we ordered. The soup came at the same time as the steak. Once we were done I asked for a bourbon list while everyone was looking over the desert menu. It's sad to make a review encompassing the entire restaurant/hotel based on a single individual's actions because we love going there and the food is amazing. However, Nevada Steele, the Centro restaurant manager physically put her hands on my husband. My husband was trying to tip the amazing chef who made our outstanding pizza. He was walking away from the area he makes pizza while my husband was trying to tip him. He tried to hand him a tip walking in the direction he was going and she pushed him. In no circumstance should anyone put their hands on someone. My husband did tip the chef and the chef insisted on shaking my husband's hand very appreciative of his generosity. After, we were sitting in our seats and she came over to where we were and began attempting to provoke a reaction to her prior encounter with my husband. Talking with her hands in our personal space trying to justify her reasoning as to why she insisted putting her hands on my husband. When we finally, after multiple minutes of her arguing with us for virtually no reason, told her to leave us alone we aren't going to argue about the situation she continued arguing. With a response from me to her trying to justify the obscene actions she displayed prior, "you can leave". It is unfortunate that she is a manager, and I don't base my likelihood to return on her unnecessary obscene actions, but I hope the Centro and the 9 understand this is not acceptable. We have season Cavs tickets, park at the 9, and eat at Centro every game and have an appetizer after the game while meeting with NBA refs Tony and Tyler when they are in town for the last 4 years!!! If this was a normal night I'd give 20 stars, however, tonight was unacceptable and pushing a guest when a simple sentence would suffice is intolerable. I don't care about the amount of money we spend in this establishment, respect and understanding personal space is a must when dealing with the public and 2 very important attributes the manager Nevada Steele did not represent tonight in the name of an otherwise top tier hotel and restaurant. read more

Why do some restaurants make such bad first impressions? I'll start on the positive: Maurice is great, food is hearty, drinks ample and atmosphere quite upscale but enjoyable. Ok, back to the Why? We showed up early for an OpenTable reservation. We watched several parties ahead of us -- without reservations -- get seated. When a hostess turned to us, and we cited our reservations, she told us it would be ten minutes. She then seated a party behind us. Huh? It took a while (but not 10 minutes) to get seated. By then, one star was already DQed. I wonder what OpenTable thinks of having its users be treated as 2nd class diners. read more

Nested inside the Metropolitan at the 9 is a chic restaurant with an amazing food and drink menu. I first dined at The Centro in January during a staycation at the hotel. The food and service was excellent so it was a must that I return. My first visit we ordered mussels, nonnas meatballs, lobster bisque, Chilean Seabass and the Bone In Veal Chop. The appetizers were flavorful and the lobster bisque was heavenly. When our main entree came I was in awe of the how amazing the Seabass looked and the lobster butter that accompanied the dish was absolutely delicious. I recently dined in April for my birthday and had an amazing experience. We indulged in a charcuterie board, an order of the shrimp cocktail, we ordered the lobster bisque again and for entrees I had the braised short rib and my husband had the Ribeye. I was a little disappointed I only received three shrimp cocktail but they were still delicious. My short rib was prepared perfectly and my husband really enjoyed his steak. The overall ambiance of the restaurant is very stylish, elegant, has soft lighting and perfect for a date night, birthday or ladies night out. My girlfriend and I had dinner here before heading to a show in Playhouse Square. All in all, it was a pretty great experience. I'd say that the only sticking point for me was the weird service. Our waiter seemed rather preoccupied the entire time and didn't seem very interested in our experience. One thing that really stuck out to me was that he brought us bread well after our appetizer had arrived. We didn't know there was bread coming and it seemed like an afterthought coming in between our app and entrees. When asking for the dessert menu and the check, he brought both without a word and did the same when returning our bill. Just a really odd experience. On one hand, I don't want to fault him, because I'm not sure what he was going through that day. But, I do see a lot of similar comments too. So, who knows? The food was delicious all around, but the drinks were the star of the show. Kudos to the bartender for the delicious cocktails. We absolutely loved them! I can't recall what my girlfriend got, but I had the short rib and it was stellar. I'd definitely pop by again to give The Centro another shot. read more

I promise, you'll have the worst Cleveland experience of all time. The hotdog stand and trash can just to the south of the restaurant have a higher rating of their meals. If you have an enemy in your life, send them to Centro and laugh. Centro couldn't possible succeed on their own with the meals they produce. My husband and I wandered into Centro before a Cavs game. I am so grateful we did! The Centro is located within a hotel. We did not have a reservation but were able to get a table quickly. We enjoyed the lobster bisque and Caesar salad to start the meal. The lobster bisque was delicious and creamy! For our main dishes we enjoyed the lobster ravioli and agnolotti. The pasta was wonderful and VERY filling. We were not able to finish our main dishes because the starters with the bread that was provided were generous portions. We went as a large group of 15 people for dinner on a Saturday night. Service was good but food was average to below average. My friends commented on how poorly prepared the steak was and we should have been clued in to this when our server offered the sea bass as their best dish. The sea bass was good but nothing special. The biggest source of our discontent was when the bill arrived. Our large group had an understandably sizable bill (over $2000). What was strange and completely unheard of to all of us is that they placed an additional 2% charge because we used a credit card to pay. Apparently their expectation was that we were to carry $2000 in cash to bring for dinner? Completely ridiculous. Diners beware. read more

Went for brunch with our family of four. Everything was lousy. The chai tea I had ordered was delicious in flavor but wasn't hot and the cup barely had any in it. We did not receive any refills of our drinks nor were we asked if we wanted them. The $25 brunch charcuterie board was an absolute joke. The "pastries" were these thawed out puffs filled with chocolate. They did not have too much flavor except for the fact that they kind of tasted the way the inside of a refrigerator smells. The bacon was not cooked the greatest. The waffles that came on the charcuterie board were dense and very sweet. The two eggs breakfasts did not come with any butter, jam, jelly or anything to put on the toast. The Margherita pizza was not good either unless you tried and liked those kid cuisine microwaveable pizza from the 90s. If you liked those, this would be a go to dish for you! Our expectations were lower as we opted to eat at the restaurant in our hotel. But, the entire experience was excellent. Our waiter (Eric?) was attentive and helpful and the food was excellent. My wife couldn't decide between the Caesar salad and the lobster bisque, so he brought her a cup of the bisque along with a salad to try. Both were excellent.
