We were tired of all the games (add-on equipment, mandatory charges, "deals", high-pressure Sales tactics) that we were experiencing with Chicagoland dealers so we expanded our car search to Central IL. That's when we found Illini Nissan. I first met Lori (Internet Sales) and then Garry (Sales Mgr) over emails, as I was negotiating pricing (at first over emails and then over the phone). They were both very courteous and respectful and a true joy to work with. Honestly, I felt like I was buying a car from a family member. I never felt pressured or bothered in any way. Their follow up to my many questions was also really quick too. After a few days we had settled on a price that was, to my surprise, much better than any Chicago deals I had found. We then drove 2 hours to go look at the car and our experience was quite enjoyable - just like car buying should be. Having already worked out pricing, Garry introduced us to Patrick (Salesman) so that he could show us the car. We thought we knew everything about the car we were buying (2017 Nissan Maxima Platinum) until we met Patrick. Talk about someone who really knows his Nissans. Patrick was awesome and taught us about ALL of the cars features and answered so many additional questions too. We then came back from a test ride and met with Kim (Finance Mgr) to do paperwork. She was great too and made the final paperwork process so efficient and straightforward. We had always dreaded buying cars from dealerships but, in hindsight, I think it's simply because we hadn't been to a great one yet. Don't have your service done at Illini Nissan unless money is no object. I had to have my Adaptive cruise control sensor replaced on my Murano. They charged me $1,536 for the sensor alone! That equates to 4% of the entire price of the car when I bought it new! I checked online and found a Nissan parts company that sold the same sensor for $925. That was discounted from a retail price of $1463. So Illini Nissan charged me $611 more than the part cost and charged me $73 more than retail!!! Illini Nissan also charged me $654 for labor but didn't document the number of hours they spent on my car. So I asked the service rep and he told me they spent 3 hours on the car. That's a whopping $218 per hour! I took a discount card that Illini Nissan mailed me hoping to reduce the cost. The card said "20% Off Savings on Any Service" with the very appealing subline "You decide the service, and we give you the discount and a complimentary multi-point inspection". What they don't say is that they limit the discount to $100. Nowhere on the advertisement is that limitation noted. Yet, the cashier just lamely said, sorry, that that was their policy. So, it was tough luck for me I guess. Fooled me! The takeaway is that extraordinarily high prices and false advertising is what you get at Illini Nissan. Buyer beware! To be fair, Illini Nissan gets 2 stars rather than 1 because the repair was satisfactory... at least initially. read more

I took in my 2018 Nissan Rogue into service because it was making a loud clicking noise in the front driver's side wheel. They took my car in and ran diagnostics on it. They called me later that day and told me that I had a bad front passenger side wheel bearing. I told them to go ahead and fix it. $360 later the wheel bearing was fixed. I picked up my car and headed home. My car stays in the garage a week. I drive out and my front driver side wheel is still making the exact same clicking loud noise??? I go back to the dealership service department and let them know it is still making the exact same noise. This is where it get's upsetting, I tell the gentleman at the service desk that my car is making the same exact same noise that it was previously making pre-service and now it is still making the noise? I asked him you would think the technicians would have tested my Rogue post service? He says, "sir they are technicians, they are not GOD"???? I look at him puzzled and said? I don't expect them to be God, but at least do their job properly since my car issue appears to be a safety issue as well. He then tells me sir, "do we want to fix your car, of course we do. We are here to make $MONEY." Now I am really getting upset because instead of apologizing and scheduling my service he has only given me 2 excuses! 1) their technicians are not God so don't expect your car to be fixed & 2) Nissan Illini is here to make money off their customers even if they do not address your root cause issue you came in for! This is very upsetting because I would expect much better from a dealership. I am taking in my Rogue tomorrow to get it assessed. Now that means I will more than likely have to pay more money for something they should have fixed not to mention spend another $100 on a rental car so I can go to work like I already did last week. Avoid. Came in when website listed they would be open, but it wasn't. So we walked the lot for 30 minutes looking at cars and finally decided to call the dealership number. Lady said times listed were for repair shop. Well... okay... maybe someone should fix that? Left, came back in the afternoon. Walked around the lot, nobody approached us. Decided to go inside, nobody greeted, acknowledged or approached us. So we uncomfortably stood around for 15 minutes looking at the showroom models and reading brochures. We decided to leave when an obese man wearing extremely tight clothes approached and asked if we needed some help. Yes. We are interested in a car. So we went onto the lot to look at some specific cars. We asked about pricing and why the listed prices were several thousand higher than other dealerships in the region. The salesman explained that the prices were marked just barely up enough to make a profit. Sorry... we started laughing. I mean, come on guy. Am I supposed to believe these are the most profit-hating car salesmen in history? The lying was obvious, and shameful. By the way, if you're going to give a line like that, at least try not to stutter and look away while saying it. We went to look at a slightly used model, and asked why the two year old car was marked $2,500 more than what Kelly Blue Book was listing. "Well, Kelly Blue Book is just a standard." Uh huh... Yah think? We explained that we wanted to test drive a car. After asking which one, he said he would need to copy the drivers license and fill out some forms (never been asked that at any dealership before... but okay). After a bit, he came back with the keys and said he was sorry we had to wait so long... this was his first week on the job and the manager told him he should see if we needed help. That made us more uncomfortable. It's apparent someone sized us up coming into the place and decided we weren't worth the time so we got the half-wit rookie. Okay, it's one thing to give the new guy a chance, it's another to be sized up. Well, the rookie went to get the car. We waited on the curb for about 10 minutes... kicking rocks and waiting. Maybe he got lost? He finally shows up, hops out and then proceeds to open the doors and show us the car, pointing out obvious things like, "as you can see, the back door swings all the way open." No kidding? Then he says, "we don't do test drives 30 minutes before closing, and we close at 5." Oh, well then by all means, let's NOT buy a car. I'm more than happy to take money to a competitor. We couldn't even drive the thing around the lot, nothing. But where to start with this? - salesman wont make any extra effort - dummy wasted time that could have been used to get us into a car before closing He then asked us to make an appointment to come back for a test drive. We said absolutely not and for all of the reasons described above, and adding that we felt like we were treated very badly and will not be purchasing a car from this lot. After we left, we got a call from the Chevy dealership across town at about 7 p.m.. The Chevy salesman was profusely apologizing for not returning our phone call earlier... he had been with a customer up to that. He left his personal cell phone number and said to call him at any time. Now THAT'S how to behave as a professional. Apparently that dealership doesn't shoo customers away at 5 p.m. We're going to keep shopping for the best deal in the region, but the Chevy dealership is already at the top of our list. BTW - if you Nissan folks ever read this: we said we were interested in buying one car, actually we were interested in buying two. We just wanted to see how we were treated first. read more

This is your typical dealership experience. They will repair everything, but will charge an arm and a leg for it. I don't how they do it, but their price for parts on repairs is higher than the listed MSRP per Nissan's parts list. Each time I have mentioned this to them, they say that I must have looked up the old price list (almost any Nissan dealership that sells parts online has a price list, showing the actual MSRP and their discounted price). Whenever they have not had the part in stock, they will special order it, and then fail to call me that the part is in - this has happened perhaps three or four times already. An unusual pet peeve of mine - here in the midwest, no one uses the parking brake. I grew up in San Francisco so out of habit I use the parking brake every time I park. I've seen the valet/jockey drive off in my vehicle without releasing the parking brake on multiple occasions, so I have to make a special effort to not set the brake when I leave the car with them. I HATE the feeling of the car rolling against the parking pawl - that is not what the system was designed to do! Naturally when I pick up the vehicle, the parking brake is never set. Yes, a strange thing I dislike, but c;mon folks, the parking brake should be used whenever you park - that is what it was designed for. If your car is under warranty, sure take it to the dealer. However, I'm not sure I've really gotten an honest vibe from this place despite taking my vehicle here for repairs over the past nine years. read more

I give my experience, as well as the sales and finance teams all 5 stars! From the beginning to the end, my experience was an enjoyable one. My sales person (Wes) was more than patient with me while I decided on what car I wanted, and let me tell you I jumped all over the place before deciding on a Maxima. Wes showed me several vehicles from all across the WordenMartin family of dealerships (Illini Nissan, Ford City & Lincoln, Worden Martin Buick GMC and Subaru of Champaign Co.) before I finally made a decision. There was no pressure, I didn't feel as if I was being "sold," it was more so getting some guidance from someone who knew the products at hand and finding what met all of my needs. Once I had decided I wanted a Maxima, it was then about finding the correct trim level and color combination that I wanted. Unfortunately Illini Nissan didn't have the exact car I thought I wanted in-stock. At first I was a little discouraged that I would have to either settle or go to another dealership to get the exact car I wanted. Luckily for me my sales associate (Wes) was already on top of locating the exact vehicle I wanted from another dealership and calling them to see if they could get it here for me. Initially we found one down in Nashville Tennessee, however after a day or two of not hearing back from that big city dealership, Wes had found an even better fit for me from another dealership even closer to home. Within two days that vehicle was here and ready for me to pick up. The day I went in to pick it up, the finance team had all of my paperwork ready to go. I came in, signed my documents and was shown all the features on my new Maxima by Wes in a rather timely manor. Honestly this is the third time I've bought from Wes @ Illini Nissan and each time the experience gets better and better. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. All of the staff welcomes me and always offers to help however they can - even the upper management offers to wash my car if Wes is busy. When it's time for my next new or used car I will definitely be going back to them! I walked into this dealership in the market for a slightly used car with 14K to spend. I don't know if they sized me up and didn't like the clothes i was wearing but I walked around the lot peering into prospective cars for the better part of a half hour while waiting for a salesperson to come out. After getting tired of waiting i walked inside thinking that everyone must be extremely busy not to notice a potential customer walking around the lot. So i walk in the door and stood around for another 10 minutes before getting the attention of a guy whose hair was slicked back with about a gallon of hair spray (maybe he wanted to ensure that his doo would survive a nuclear blast?) holding it in place. I told him I was interested in looking at purchasing a vehicle. Doofis: 40 some year old trying to relive being in a frat based on his clothing, hairstyle, language and demeanor: "Um I'm not actually a salesman." me: well what do you do then? Doofis: I'm a supplier so i don't really deal with prospective customers me: um sure, why not? Can you get me a salesperson, I'm interested in buying a car. So he leaves for about 5 minutes and comes back with some kid who looked like he was about 15 and looking forward to watching afternoon cartoons after he got done wiping down cars and sweeping the lot. Kid who looked like he wasn't even old enough to be working legally: "I'm Chad" (can't remember his name but just look for the 15 year old trying to be like doofis in every way) "how much money do you have to put down today?" ME: well I have about 14K between cash and pre approved loan KID: well most of the cars here are priced higher than that. Were you looking to finance at all? ME: yeah thats why i have a loan in hand KID: ok what are you looking for? Long story short i proceeded to rattle off a few models I had been looking into. He showed me a couple of older cars in my price range (all of which had obvious paint missing, dents, and a big sign on the side window NO WARRANTY. SOLD AS IS. After looking at a few and an extremely awkward conversation that made it clear this kid was probably on his first job, i sat in a Honda Civic. I then asked him to tell me more about the vehicle. KID: well its a honda and they make great cars ME: a Honda? Wow you don't say. KID: what else do you want to know? ME: how many previous owners, was it a repo or fleet car, whats the maintenance history aka carfax, and why so much when it has obvious damage to the body by way of paint chips on the side. KID: we can get you a carfax for $75 and we price our vehicles as cheaply as possible. you're buying from a dealership not a private party. ME: *getting annoyed at this point* KID: (while I was in the drivers seat) "The dashboard looks like a spaceship" ( I kid you not this is what i was dealing with) ME: sure. Can I test drive it? KID goes on to tell me that I can test drive it after we go over the paperwork and ensures that I would be approved for a loan. (this after telling him multiple times I had a loan in hand) I promptly thanked him for wasting my time and that he should seek out some customer service training. To which he said "sorry have a nice day." Well I did have a great day and an even better day after that when i went to a dealer who greeted me as soon as I walked in the door with a great salesperson who gave me a test drive without making me fill out anything, a free carfax, and someone who did a great job earning my business. Now thats more like it! I was thinking throughout the day at this other dealer which will appear in a review to come. Dear Yelp, can you please allow users to award negative stars? Terrible customer service and all I did was use them as rental through a partner body shop. Their service shop doesn't have clear, direct communication in execution. Even the simplest process of filling out paperwork. 5:26pm on a weekday and I drop their rental off. I'm told they will gladly give me a ride to the local Autobody to pick up my car. The service manager and secretary state sorry there is no one available to take you, it's almost 5:30 and all we have is an hourly employee and he can't take you. I ask- "so there's nothing you can do for me? You're not going to help me?" Then nothing. No sense of urgency or care to even attempt to resolve and help a potential car buying customer. ZERO help, ZERO recommendations to assist me. I had to take matters into my hands and my body shop after hours came to pick me up personally and apologized for the awful service. Sincerely disappointed in the lack effort, poor communication and lack kindness at Illini Nissan.This is not the place to go for a trusted dealer relationship, let alone respect for the community and partnerships within our own community. read more

I've had my 2005 Altima for ten years. I bought it used from the first owner. I've had all major service done at this dealership. I used to get my oil changed there all of the time. Then one of their former employees told me to take my business elsewhere when I told him I appreciated the multi-point inspection information but was tired of the hard sell for extra maintenance and services every time I came in for an oil change. I took it to Jiffy Lube for a couple of years but they royally messed it up. This dealership fixed the engine issue and the employee who was rude was gone, so I started bringing it back for regular oil changes. I also had all of the fluids replaced at 100,000 miles; they replaced two mass flow sensors (from the Jiffy Lube issue). They've replaced a spindle and done various other things as they've cropped up. I have changed the brakes and I got my tires from Farm & Fleet. So not 100% of my maintenance has been at this dealership, but the major things have been. A couple of weeks ago, on a Sunday morning, my car turned off when I was driving. I got it started again and took it to O'Reilly. They plugged in their diagnostic computer and told me what the error code suggested. I bought the part (a camshaft position sensor) and replaced it. It fixed the issue. When I was in the engine compartment, I noticed that the air inlet duct was completely loose - missing a couple of bolts - and that one of the engine cover bolts was missing. I took my car in for an oil change yesterday and mentioned the missing bolts to the service person that checked me in. He said he would look up what maintenance had been done. He then told me I had only ever had my oil changed there, nothing else. I told him that wasn't true. He said he'd have to talk to his service manager. When they called that the oil change was done, I asked about the bolts. It came out that they didn't have records of maintenance they'd done on my car because of a system purge. And that anything they would've done would have had to have been five years ago and they couldn't be responsible for something from five years ago. I explained that I don't get into my engine compartment and asked if I was supposed to check every bolt every time I had my car in for maintenance. I didn't really get an answer to that question - just more comments about how they couldn't be responsible for something that happened years ago. This isn't the first thing they've messed up. When they replaced an oil filter, they broke the plastic push connectors on the inner fender well cover. When they changed the fluids, they let air into the radiator system so my heater didn't work correctly. Of course I didn't notice that for months because it was spring/summer when I had the fluids changed so I didn't try to use the heater for a long time. When I called and asked about that one, the person on the phone actually laughed at me. I understand that people make mistakes. But in this most recent case, we are talking about a few dollars' worth of bolts. They didn't even offer to replace them for a regular fee. So I am going to have to go digging around until I find the right parts myself. I don't know if this treatment is because I'm a woman or if it's just standard procedure to treat their customers like liars. Either way, I've had enough. I'm not going here for service any more. And I won't be buying a new car from here in the future. read more

Waste of time. They have this preapproval process you complete online and they ran my credit report. They contacted me by phone and email and practically begged me to come down and look at a used car to buy. I was candid and told them my credit was bruised but the finance person said just bring your pay stub and proof of residence and we'll get it done. I take off that morning come down and its a total waste of my time as they tell me - we need a cosigner for you to get the car. Then they ask me can I buy the car cash? WTH is wrong with these people. If I could buy a car cash I wouldn't be on a car lot. The should remove the preapproval buttons and be more truthful. Stay away from these guys. read more

The control buttons on the steering wheel of my 2015 Versa stopped working, so I got to this place hoping that their service can find out what the problem is and fix it. They spent a good amount of time on it and could not figure out what's wrong. They charged me $110 labor for "not" solving the issue, and I left the place with a brand new scratch on my steering wheel, buttons still not working, and a thinner wallet. I had a low tire yesterday (5/31/2016) in the downpouring rain. I called Nissan Dealership in Champaign on Marketview Drive. They sent a driver out with a tank of air so I could get to the Dealership without damaging my car/rim - and this was near the end of the day 4:45. The driver got totally soaked!! (Sorry about that) and then I drove to Nissan, drove right in the shop. They pulled a sharp metal object out of my tire and I was back on the road in less than 30 minutes - and it was NO CHARGE!!! Talk about Customer Service!!! I recommend this Nissan Team to everyone!! Thanks Nissan for making a bad situation great!!! I traveled to Illini Nissan today to get my oil changed on my Mitsubishi Outlander. I walked into service and Mr. Hank Rappleyea helped me. He got me registered because I was a new customer. I asked Mr. Rappleyea how long it would take for an oil change. He said about an hour and 20 minutes. I said well, I'm on my lunch break. He said no problem.. we can shuttle you back to work and I said that works perfect as long as someone could pick me up so I can get my car after I get off work at 4:15pm. He said not a problem. So, I was finished registering at 11:23 am. He told me that "Steve" would be the shuttle driver and he would be here in about 15-20 minutes. I said not a problem. I sat in your very nice waiting room until 11:50am. I went back and asked how much longer shuttle would be. Mr. Rappleyea called and "Steve" would be an additional 15 minutes or so. I said well, I really have to get back to work. I have to be back at noon. He said well, I'm sorry.. let me get your keys and we can try another day. I explained it wasn't a problem but that I ended up wasting my entire lunch break waiting. It really was an inconvenience and a waste of my time. Then, as I was walking out, Mr. Rappleyea commented "We aren't a Jiffy Lube - you can't expect to get your oil changed in 15 minutes" This really made me mad. That was NOT what I was expecting... I was expecting for a Shuttle to come get me within 15 minutes and take me back to work so I could enjoy AT LEAST part of my lunch break. But no, I walked out of your facility irritated and I will NEVER return for an Oil Change or to EVER LOOK AT PURCHASING A CAR from your facility... Your Service Department Employees LACK Customer Service.. and My 1st Impression is Definitely my LAST and it wasn't a good one at that!! read more

I spent the day on the phone deciding between this dealership and 2 other dealerships, located in different cities, who had better deals. The sales manager agreed to match the other 2 dealerships and encouraged me to come in. I went to Illini Nissan with my own financing and testdrove the Rogue. When they did the appraisal on my car, they appraised it $1500 below the other dealerships. The sales person let me test drive 2 other vehicles while they "crunched more numbers". After the 3rd vehicle I drove, they were able to work out a deal; however, it wasn't the model that I had wanted. The saleperson then got mad and tried to guilt me, pointing after they let me drive 3 of their cars, I was still going to leave and go to another dealership! She went back and talked to the sales manager who agreed to give me a whoppin $100 extra on my trade in!
