Late last year we had a mahogany Pivot door installed on the front of our house as part of a remodel. Unfortunately the installer didn't bother to finish or seal the door which resulted in cracks starting to form on the outside due to drying from sunlight exposure. We hired Alan/Illusion to come in, seal the door and repair these cracks. The resulting work product exceeded all of my expectations. He is a true craftsman and put lots of extra effort in to make sure that this was the best possible outcome, and had some great ideas about how to address this difficult situation. I had my greandmother's retro table from the 50's and it was in rough shape with a giant burn mark on the top. Allen come over to get me an estimate and I asked if he could match it to the chairs I had just bought, and he said absolutely. Allen even picked it up & dropped it off. I cannot express how great Alan and Illusion Custom finish is. In a Quarantine fit of home improvement we decided to attempt to resurface our 78" tulip table. It has taken a bit of a beating and the gloss finish had chips all over it. Needless to say we screwed it up royally and started looking into scrapping the whole thing and getting a new table. Alan previously stained the wood base/legs for 6 dining chairs (see previous review) that I wanted matching and uniform. He did a beautiful job and they look 100x better, richer, deeper and more lustrous than they did when they were purchased new. I recently had large framed artwork moved to a different house and one of the frames got a 3" gash in it. The frame was custom with about 3 different colors, textures and materials. It also has a matching smaller companion piece so to have it reframed would have been very costly as I would have had to have both the damaged frame and the non damaged frame re made completely in order to make a matching set. I called Alan and texted him photos to see if he could repair it, which he did, and it turned out GREAT!! Anybody looking at the painting would never notice a repair. He ended up stripping the top and refinishing it making it look better that brand new. He also refinished a mahogany coffee table to a lighter shade. They look 100x better, richer, deeper and more lustrous than they did when they were purchased new. He estimated a 2 week time frame and everything was completed and delivered back to us in 7 days! Alan from Illusion was referred to me by a friend so I called him up. He answered the phone, was very polite and offered to come see what I needed painting that very afternoon. He was polite, respectful and he quoted me a fair price. We scheduled a date to return to paint my room. He offered to pick up my sample paint and did so, then left it on my porch with a brush and rag so I could test the color before he bought the rest of the paint. Very thoughtful. He showed up on time, communicated with me a few times before and after and did a good job. I had a dining table and benches damaged by our short-term renters. I called several places to see if I could get an estimate for the repairs and Alan was the only one to respond. After describing the damage and sending him several photos, he said that he would be able to help. He quickly provided the estimate that I needed for the insurance reimbursement, which I thought was very reasonable. He was also very considerate of the time frame so that we wouldn't be without the dining set for too long in our home. The benches had been severely gouged and deeply scratch, and the table top had damage to the finish from water and abuse. He did the repairs in less than a week after receiving the pieces. He even volunteered to help by delivering them back to us up in the high desert to avoid us having to transport them in the hot sun of the afternoon. His work is amazing. I can't even see the deep gouges in the benches and the table top looks brand new. The finish he applied will protect the set through many more years of use and abuse by our renters. We even decided to have him refinish the coffee table top that we previously had a friend try and refinish, with poor results, after it was damaged. I can't wait to see what he can do for that piece.
