I went in for a microdermabrasion, Wednesday, Dec 27,2017. I really wanted to love it. The ladies there were all so nice but I must admit, the process was not as relaxed as people sell it to be. I figured the pain might be worth it-- while the lady was really rough on my skin, I trusted that she knew what she was doing. After the microdermabrasion, my face was red in all different areas. I figured it would heal after some time. Days, weeks have gone by and there has been more scars on my face than prior. I'm really unhappy about the results. I was reluctant about posting photos of my face but I dont even care anymore. The following Friday I left them a voicemail, asking for some helpful advice on what I could do or a potential refund. It's been over 2 weeks and I still haven't heard back. I truly hope there is good reason behind why I was treated in such a manner. (Might be in a different order) 1st photo: Photo of my face while I sat in the waiting room. 2nd photo: Immediately after the session I went to the bathroom. My face had never felt as abused as it did that day. 3rd photo: 2-3 days later. Scars that never existed prior to the session, begin dto appear. My skin felt like it had been scraped against concrete. It no longer felt soft, it was rough and gritty. Today, it's been more than 2 weeks and these scars still remain. read more

After nearly 18 months and probably 25+ appointments, the results haven't been worth the time. I was a regular of Kerrin who was always very friendly and extremely accommodating. What ultimately drove me to end my treatment at image care was an unfortunate situation with another esthetician while Kerrin was out of town on vacation. Admittedly, I was running about 2 minutes late to my appointment (I was walking in while a family member recovering from literal spine surgery who had called me for the first time since his procedure as I was walking in to Image Care). This was my first time running late to an appointment over my 18 months with Image Care, and ironically the first time that I didn't have to wait 5-10 minutes past my scheduled appointment time to be seen. In the past, I have waited extremely politely for as much as 30 minutes past my scheduled appointment. The team there is often booked back-to-back and I understand that they are often working hard to see every client for their scheduled time. As I was walking in today the previous client was just leaving the treatment room so I assumed this didn't cause any hold ups. V (Vee? Not sure on spelling) who had booked me while Kerrin was on vacation started my treatment, made very little progress during my short procedure, and stopped after 8-9 minutes when I had paid for 15 minutes that day (the appointment was cut shorter than I was late for). I politely asked her to get just one last problem hair, to which she replied, "No. No you were over five minutes late and I'm not going to be delayed for the rest of the day because of that." Funny because my last appointment with her was delayed by 20 minutes (And her claim was also totally untrue) . Thanks V! I had seen V one time prior to this appointment. While she was more friendly that time, she seemed probably new at the trade and was only able to make half the progress that I usually get with Kerrin during a 15-30 minute appointment. She literally said, "wow! How does Kerrin get so much done in 15 minutes?!" and suggested a 45 minute follow up even though I've kept this schedule for over a year now. In addition to her poor technical skill, she is apparently totally unwilling to provide the service you pay for. For a treatment that charges per minute, booking with V will be a complete waste of your time and money. Apparently you'll pay for twice the time with only half the progress! Only plan to go to image care if you're working with Kerrin. She is the business owner and has truly been great during my time there. I'm sorry to be leaving because of her ditsy, rude, and untrained staff. read more

I've had electrolysis around Boston, and around southern California. One of their people is in a class of her own, when it comes to electrolysis. I have very thick facial hair, and one time, she cleared my face in three hours. I hesitate to mention it, because it sets a bar so high, but even if she did half as much, she would have done more than most people would done in more time. I heard that she may be dealing with a repetitive motion damage/injury. I hope she takes care of herself and heals up. I'm thankful for the help she's done. read more

I went many, many times (20+) and didn't see the results I was hoping for, but ultimately what made me stop going was their scheduling system -- it's all done with pen and paper and several times my appt was not written down correctly or when I tried to call to confirm the time of an appt, I couldn't get a hold of anyone. So, several times I trudged all the way out there and they didn't have me in the books or I missed an appt because I couldn't get a hold of anyone to confirm -- a digital upgrade would be nice. Image Care Electrolysis needs to learn how to run a business. Seems like another company that uses Groupon to get business but has no idea how to build a client base. The place looks clean, but I was not actually able to get an electrolysis service done. I purchased a Groupon for two electrolysis sessions and scheduled an appointment (12:45 on a Friday). I left work early for my appointment, and when I arrived, the woman told me that 'they' had double booked her and she only had 15 minutes for me- she could give me a consultation, but I would have to come back for another appointment. She said she was completely booked for the rest of the day. She was not very apologetic and appeared to insinuate that it was my fault that I did not leave them with more information when booking. About the booking: She said they had tried to contact me to see if I could have come in at 12:30, but they didn't have a telephone number or email to reach me at. When I booked, I had left a voicemail with a call back number. Someone by the name of Kerrin called back and left a message. When I called back, the voicemail message suggested I could text her. I figured this would be an easier way to schedule an appointment since estheticians are often busy with clients. The messages go like this: (Friday Nov 13) Me: Hi! Just got your message about scheduling for the 30 minute electrolysis. What times do you have for next Friday the 20th? Thanks. Kerrin: There is a 12:45 or 1:15 open for Fri 11/20 Me: Can I do the 12:45? (No response) (Monday Nov 16) Me: Following up to see if this is confirmed Kerrin: Yes Confirmed! Me: Okay great Some questions: Why would I sit in for a 15 minute consultation in addition to having to come back again when I already had committed to a session? These messages were sent via iMessage so I find it very hard to believe 'they' couldn't find a phone number. Additionally-I had left my phone number in my voicemail AND they called me back to leave a message. There was another woman there waiting for the 1:00 who arrived early who was also a first time customer. If somehow they couldn't think of the three ways of getting my phone number, why not call the other double booked appointment to reschedule her? When I left she suggested I contact Groupon for a refund. There was no resolution offered other than one appointment opening over the weekend (I would not be in town). Image Care Electrolysis needs to learn how to run a business. This is not the way to go about attracting new customers. read more

I really didn't enjoy my facial. It wasn't relaxing at all and you can clearly hear conversations and laughter happening in the treatment room right next to you (and constant running water right by your head). My first indication of this being a bad experience was that the esthetician used old, smelly sponges to remove whatever the first product was that she applied on my face. So gross. She also had latex gloves on the whole time, which I found very odd. Having creams applied on your face/ hands with latex gloves is extremely unpleasant and unnecessary. If somebody has an open wound on their face or some kind of nasty breakout, then service should be rescheduled. I had neither but the gloves were on from start to finish. The "massages" given by her latex gloved hands were needless to say super awkward and lackluster. I purchased a Groupon for a 75 min "customized facial" (it was 45 minutes, but I was 5 mins late). It looks like this place gets a lot of business from Groupon; however, poor service for Groupon customers will not result in return clients. In this case, you really get what you pay for. They also apparently were having a microdermabrasion special that the esthetician was trying to sell and it sounded great, but after that experience, no thanks. I've been going to Image Care for 18 months several times a week and have been 100% satisfied. As a lady of Italian ancestry, I've always been self conscious of my hairiness in certain areas, but I didn't react well to laser. I'm so glad I've been going to Image Care - I am so much more confident of my body! In my life I've been to 5 different electrolysis places, and Image Care is hands down the best. Pros: -All 3 electrologists are knowledgeable & excellent!!! Kerrin is the owner, is very easy to talk to, and highly skilled. Kay is a registered nurse with an amazing work ethic. Carolyn (sp?) is newer to the profession, but she does a good job and is very friendly. -They really listen to you & your preferences -Very friendly and excellent customer service. -Since 3 electrologists work here and there are 2 electrolysis rooms, it is easy to get a time slot that works with your schedule. Very convenient! -Have both Flash & Blend electrolysis. -local small business -reasonable/competitive pricing -They also do facials & sell select skin care products. I've never gotten one, but MaryEllen is super sweet! Cons: -A 10 min. walk from the Central Sq T stop (but Inman Sq really is a lovely location). -No laser, if you are looking for that. Kerrin says too many of her patients have had bad experiences with lasers ProTips: -If you are worried about pain, take 2 Ibuprofin1 hour before your session. That's what I do and I find the sessions to be very relaxing. I actually joke that I get the benefit of therapy, acupuncture & hair removal all in one. -Most phone calls go to voicemail and they call you back. After the first session, I found it easiest to just book my next few appointments in person after a session. -Don't be late! If you can't make it, let them know as soon as possible. They are a small business & so are often working back to back. If you are late, they don't get paid for the time they have you in their schedule. read more

I could not wait to come home and write a review for this place. I got a microdermabrasion treatment with a groupon after reading the positive reviews for the laser hair removal. WOW. I was totally blown away. I have some acne and lots of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation and a couple of very shallow pitted scars. Karen performed the treatment for me and it was soooo relaxing and clean! Everything was opened in new packages and she walked me through the procedure because it was my first time. She was amicable and very friendly. I was nervous that the actual treatment itself would hurt, but it was actually very relaxing! The cooling mask after was my favorite part. She was very thorough with aftercare instructions and even applied sunscreen for me over the moisturizer she applied after the cooling mask. I left feeling much more confident than I have in ages. My skin looks and feels smoother than before I went in and I can see some fading already in the dark marks. I didn't have any redness or irritation. I could not recommend going to see Karen for a microdermabrasion enough! read more

One of the best facials in my life hands down. I came with a $35 groupon for a 75 minute customized facial. The location isn't exactly close to public transportation at a 10+ minute walk from Central Square in Cambridge. The location is easy to find, except when I walked inside past the hair salon I was a little lost because I didn't see a distinct front desk area. However, Maryellen, one of the aestheticians, immediately spotted me and ushered me into the facial room; she is the cheeriest and most knowledgeable aesthetician I've been assigned to. I felt like I was getting a facial from an old friend within the comfort of my home, which is how I would describe the ambiance. The space is small, quaint, and still professional yet without the sterile feel of a more high-end salon or dermatologists office. The facial was certainly thorough; cleansing, exfoliation, massage, extraction, and treatments specific for my acne. Maryellen also described every step in detail which I appreciated, I was never guessing what was going on and when. She also used a kitchen timer for some of the treatments, which was amusing for me, but may be irritating for some if you're looking for a serious spa experience. She used the Dermalogica line which is some of the best stuff I've ever tried. My skin afterwards was super relaxed and ready to go! Extractions were also super tolerable, she has a good hand *especially* at that part. She took time to analyze my skin and give me advice for how to maintain the results of the facial at home. She advised me to switch my pillowcase often and to streamline my current skincare regimen with Cetaphil cleanser and moisturizer (which I'm still debating, I am attached to what I'm using now). She even recommended a dermatologist I could visit in order to schedule a yearly skin checkup for skin cancer. She also extended the $35 for my next three facials, a total steal!! And after that, every facial will be $45 which is a GREAT deal. I will definitely be back. read more

It may not sound like one, but this is my oasis in Boston. I've been a customer of Mary Ellen's for almost 2 years now after getting a great Living Social deal for $45 for a 75-minute facial. (Be on the lookout, they crop up every so often and you can often keep the deal as long as you remain a customer). My skin isn't too problematic and they seem to be very expert with people with skin problems, but the facials are more relaxing than any massage I've found in Boston yet. The facial is a great deal and includes everything imaginable, with some great-smelling products: a rinse, exfoliation scrub, mask, face / head massage (the best part!!), blackhead extraction, a steam machine (I often start zoning out into a dreamy half-asleep mode at these points), this cool fizzy bubbly stuff, warm towels, and probably a lot of other things I'm forgetting. Mary Ellen is incredibly sweet and easy to work with -- she lets you relax during it all, but also explains what's going on and teaches you about your skin, without forcing you to buy things. I went to Maryellen for my first facial ever, and it was amazing. The dermalogica facials are all custom to each person's skin and the products feel and smell amazing. Maryellen is very knowledgable about skin care and gave great tips for improving my skin. The best part is that she does not push products! I thought I would leave with $100+ worth of products, but instead she told me products to look for and avoid that are available in any drug store. Not to mention the facials are VERY reasonably priced. My only critique is their lack of a front desk. I would have loved to go back and buy one of the products but knew that I would walk into an empty waiting room waiting for one of their employees to finish with a client before I could buy a product. Ok first things first, the place is beautifully decorated. When i first walked in(about a half hour early for my appt) the lady that greeted me was very nice and sat and talked to my friend and i while we waited, i believe her name was V, but the older lady, who was valerie (i think, she was a lil late and on top of that i could here her talking to V saying that V should have got her out of the appt with me, that she was over booked (which is not my problem, im a paying customer) then come to tell me that she couldnt see me today, (which i didnt stand for since i left work early and took the bus from malden because it was the only appt they had available) so i insisted that she do some of it, which was only 15min and she talked through the first 5 mins of my appt, so really she only did maybe 10 mins and only did about a quarter size spot on my chin. It was a very unpleasant experience, then she made it sound like she was doing me a flavor by making my next appt 45mins (which she definitely wasnt, considering it was the time i had left over, that she didnt finish) they were not very accommodating at all. They made me feel like my appt wasn't important enough. It was just RIDICULOUS! Im just going to finish my last appt and never come back again!!! I refuse to pay for someone to treat me like a 2nd class citizen!!! Im just very disappointed...they need to get their act together!! I cant really blame the owners but Val should have told me that she couldnt see me, before i schlep 2 hour on the bus in the cold to make it to my appt on time. Its just common courtesy!!! If they can make it up to me somehow, i would love to refer all of my transgender friends to get electrolysis here...along with myself! i was a little apprehensive about the bargain deal from living social facial that i scheduled for my sensitive skin. when i called to request an appointment, the woman who answered the phone told me that they were all booked up for weeks. ok, i scheduled my badly-needed facial when they were available. fortunately, the same woman called me back later in the day to inform me that they had a cancellation for the next day and they could take me. eureka! i arrived a little bit late thanks to the wonderful rainy weather. i felt bad, as i ran into the 1st floor space in a cute, little brownstone right in inman square [it took me a few seconds to find the front door]. there was no one at the front room, and i was unsure of where to go. i headed off down the corridor in search of life when i came across two doors, one of which was open. inside stood an older lady who introduced herself as maryellen. she was so understanding about my tardiness, as she had thought i decided against traveling there in the inclement weather. but no, i was ready for the facial! she gave me a terrycloth robe and headband to change into. as i settled in the treatment room, maryellen was super friendly and walked me through every step *before* she did anything, including which products she was going to use, and which brand. we discussed my skin type and the issues [read: grievances] my skin has. the first step after cleaning the skin was an exfoliating treatment. she applied it and left the room. dammit. here's where my apprehension arose again. i could feel my skin starting to react. thank goodness maryellen came back in when time was up and washed away the product. i asked her if the exfoliant is supposed to make my skin itchy and she said, no, and i should have told you to mention any discomfort! completely my fault. fortunately, the itchiness subsided. the rest of the facial went smoothly. no more reactions. lots of communication. maryellen provides me with all the information of what she sees. and you know how everyone hates the extraction process? she was halfway complete before i even realized she had started. bingo! the environment is a little disconcerting however; the walls do not go to the ceiling so you can hear everything in the reception area, the hallway and the adjacent room where electrolysis is offered. not to mention that the window was open and i could hear everything, especially the pouring rain outside. the calming music maryellen puts on does not quite drown all the noise out. ahhh, clean and clear skin after an hour and a half of pampering! i would definitely return. it's no newbury street, but therefore, no inflated prices, and some down-to-earth attitude. the facial is normally $75. she also offers a quick 20 minute mini-facial promotion called the microzone that is for $25. great to know! read more

I got eyelash extensions and they are amazing! Emily did them and she was awesome! Emily took her time to explain the process and how to take care of them. Emily was friendly, professional and really took her time . It takes about two hours but the outcome is worth it. Image Care is convenient, clean and the price was right. As a guy, I typically do not get facials. As an older guy, I like to expand my horizons. My experience here was outstanding. The site is clean and well kept. I filled out a brief info sheet and was then welcomed to take a seat where the magic started. Years were not taken off my skin, but my body and face relaxed under the care of an expert who explained each process and made me feel comfortable and refreshed. I have been going to Image Care for the stray hairs on my neck/chin line & my eyebrows for over a year and I am extremely happy with the service. Kerrin and Kay are both very friendly, very thorough, and very professional. Electrolysis is a job that requires patience and both ladies really take their time to ensure the job is done correctly. I never feel rushed, and the space is very relaxing. I'm an African-American woman and I've been to other locations in Boston but Image Care is by far the best. Kay gets ALL the stray hair around my eyebrows (other places miss many hairs) and there is minimal scarring, if any (other places leave a mess). I also have to disagree w/ a comment here that listed the walk from Central as a "con". The walk is actually quite leisurely and you pass a Whole Foods & several restaurants.... so you can make a nice out of it. The 69 from Harvard stops right in front of their shop if the walk is that much of an inconvenience. Highly recommended!! read more

Got here based on yelp reviews and was not disappointed. The place is clean and well run, Kay is extremely professional and gentle and gives attention to details. I recommend asking for gold plated needle to minimize the chance of red marks. 48$ for 30 minutes. As for the location: 10 minutes walk from Central square, not the most convenient but worth the hassle. Bus 83 takes you there too. Cash only (there is a BOFA atm near by). read more

Kerrin Mazzola, owner/electrologist, is professional, friendly, and great at her job. I've only had electrolysis (they offer skin care such as microdermabrasion, which I've not yet used), and have been very happy with the results. (I'm a guy, with a pretty heavy beard, and and trying to prevent "upward beard creep," overly visible ear hair, etc. as the years go by.) Kerrin is great. Friendly, as I've said, efficient, and always flexible about appointment dates & times - I often have to reschedule, and am often late due to my own tardiness or the T's slowness. (It's easiest to get here by car, and on-street metered parking is pretty plentiful.) As another reviewer has said, because this salon isn't on Newbury Street in Boston, the prices are much more reasonable. I'm happy to recommend Kerrin & Image Care to anyone looking for great service and value. read more
