The good news: I got an appointment quickly and the staff are extremely friendly. The bad: The aesthetician didn't ask me in detail what I wanted, and did not show me nor discuss with me her brow plan. I didn't even get a mirror at the end of the treatment to see how my brows looked! While the looked OK, my other aestheticians have always been more communicative, which is really appreciated when getting waxed, especially when it's a first appointment. While this group is good, a little more communication would be appreciated. read more

Services were fine, but be aware they attempted to add an undisclosed 4% fee when I paid by credit card. This fee was not posted anywhere in the salon, not listed on their website, and not mentioned before the service. It appeared only on the payment terminal at checkout. I questioned it immediately and said it wasn't disclosed. After I left, they re‑ran the transaction without the fee. I appreciate that correction, but the fact that the fee was added in the first place -- and only removed after I objected -- was concerning. Massachusetts does not allow credit‑card surcharges, regardless of what they're called. Posting this so other customers are aware before booking. read more

Paula is my favorite bikini waxer of all time! She always goes above and beyond, she's a perfectionist, leaves no hairs, and is incredibly fast and painless. I have gone to 6-7 different waxers before her in LA and she is by far the best. Never did I know that bikini waxes could be so painless. This is less painful than threading and laser and does not hurt at all. If you have ever been scared of the pain of waxing I would definitely recommend her. It is clear that she is a professional and expert and has been doing this a really long time! Not only is she 100/10 skill wise but she is also the friendliest and kindest person ever and one of the nicest people I have ever met in Cambridge!! Thank you Paula! read more

I loath writing terrible reviews, but felt it was my obligation to do so this time, so that no one else has to go through what my friend and I did. We were clients of Pyara which closed suddenly in Harvard Square. So we went to Isaac at Sasha Salon, since Sasha has good reviews. The experience was beyond awful! He actually ruined our hair! My hair is brown with light highlights. I asked him only to do my roots to cover up the grays. Not only did he make my roots BLACK, he then added a "toner" that made every hair on my head BLACK. During the process, he kept waxing on and on about what a great colorist he is, how he graduated from the #12 top hair school in his town in Texas, how he moved to Massachusetts for the health care, because he has chronic health care issues, and talked about himself non-stop! He coughed the entire time and was clearly sick with something, he got water all over my face when he washed my hair (which no one has ever done before!), and then he threw me a towel and told me to help him wash the dye off of my face "to help him." He never fully washed out the dye, as it came out in the shower and on my towels for days. And he used something sparingly on my face which did not help with massive dye staining my forehead and the sides of my head. But that's not even the worst part. I had to spend $270 to go to another salon to have them try to fix this, which of course will take months and months, because you can't undo BLACK dye! I am now committed to this amount for the next year as they try to get my hair back to its original beautiful state, much of which will just take time, as it has to grow out. AND, how he kept pressuring me to post on Instagram about him and my hair so that he could build up a new clientele. Um, I'm clearly a middle-aged woman who is not on Instagram! My friend had the same experience, except that her hair is now BLOND and she's not a blond! He told her the same thing, how he is is the best colorist in the world and yet, even her clients were asking her why she suddenly went BLOND. She's in her 60s! It's unfathomable. To top it off, Sasha doesn't have a space to do hair. I think they are doing this, because Pyara closed and they can add this service. The room where he created this mess is in a room the size of a large closet with no windows and no room to walk around. Then they put you in an adjacent room that is the same deal while you wait with dye on your head. To add insult to injury, I was then charged $220 without tip for this horror show, which wasn't at all what they quote on their website (which felt like a bate and switch)! The whole experience is to be avoided at all cost! Salon Sasha - You need to do better! read more

I don't usually leave bad reviews for nail places as they can be pretty hit or miss but this one is definitely a miss. Whatever you do, don't book a pedicure with Phyllis. She has 0 clue how to do pedicures. My nails were cut so short - you know when someone has such extremely short nails, you can tell that they bite or peel them, because they look so unnaturally short? Yeah, it looks like that, only on my toes. In addition to her extreme nail cutting, she did nothing to get the dead skin off my heels and feet (which is half the reason for a pedicure anyways), $65 is so overpriced for a pedicure, and just criminal for the worst pedicure I've ever had in my life. Besides the length, the nails are also uneven. I had to correct her multiple times during the pedicure because she kept getting them uneven, after like 3 times of telling her I just kind of gave up on her. I've never had to correct a manicurist before about attempts to get the nail even. Some people are just not good at nails. It doesn't mean she's a bad person, but she is horrible at pedicures. Save your money and go somewhere cheaper that will give you a pedicure you don't have to remove the minute you get home (which, I've never had to do prior to this pedicure) EDIT: the owner of the business commented that they called me, but they left a voice message and my multiple calls back to them, and voicemails, all went unanswered. So, I guess they just called me back without any intention of following up, simply to make themselves look good. Plus, bizarrely, she wrote some sort of weird comment about how a few people wrote good reviews for this particular manicurist- so if 5 people say they got a good manicure from her and I say my nails were cut too short (similar to to other review posted here, if you scroll down), I'm clear just insane, according to her this was a completely isolated, 1 in a million experience. Lol. As if the business owner has actually eyewitnesses every single pedicure ever given in her salon, and every single pedicure ever given in her salon has always been perfect (apparently except for the one she didn't eyewitness, as well as the other review here about nails being cut too short, but, you know, according to the business owner we're both just random liars, although she doesn't really explain how other random people's pedicures have anything to do with the fact that mine are still too short.) By the way, this is generally why I don't like writing negative Yelp reviews, because it just becomes one big drama and battle for business owners who then feel the need to tell you no, you're wrong! We had 5 people say they loved Phyllis' pedicure! Clearly you could never ever have gotten your nails too short from her! I just had the greatest facial with Natasha. I get facials all the time and this one was spectacular. Natasha was very thorough and skilled. She gave me good advice about my skin. Also she gave amazing massages on my neck, shoulders and hands during the facial. My facial was almost 90 minutes and very affordably priced. I wish I searched some reviews prior... I rather make 4-5 star reviews and I'm not the type to complain, especially when it comes to local businesses which is why I wanted to try somewhere different and support. However, I left with battered sore feet and I had a wedding the next day. I came here on a whim bc I had a wedding near by to attend. I was looking for a relaxing day spa type place. I honestly thought because it was a "salon & spa" I was going to get a higher end (bc pricing) experience from your standard nail salon. To my surprise, it is a tiny corner room and the woman just sat me down and didn't talk much (that's fine) but I didn't even have opportunity to pick out polish, I didn't get the standard pedi that I would in a regular nail salon. She cut my nails so far down began to bleed and then peeled so much skin off. My nails looked significantly worse than when I arrived.... Perhaps, other treatments here would be fine but I wouldn't suggest paying, parking and getting nails done. Some suggestions I'd have is have wifi availability for customers and more than 1 magazine to read, update the ambiance and perhaps extra training and more than 1 nail tech. read more

Nails: Marilene is absolutely AMAZING! I see her religiously for shellac manicures and pedicures. Marilene is meticulous about her work which results in long nail wear (3-4 weeks). Note: I only use CND shellac due to my chemistry; other gel brands peel off quickly). My nails are longer and stronger than ever before. She also helped me open up to using a variety of colors. If you can tolerate getting bombarded with compliments, go see her! She fills up quickly because she is the only nail technician which means great individualized attention. Waxing/Facials: Mary Kate is friendly, kind, patient, and very thorough. I'm no longer scared or timid of the Brazilian wax procedure because I know I am in good hands. As for facials, she helps me understand my skin and will not try to push unnecessary products - the one product I did buy I still use to calm breakouts. Administrative: I am a such a regular that the ladies know my name and voice. It makes for a warm and welcoming environment. I am a regular at the Salon but added a facial this last time as a birthday gift to myself. I had actually forgotten and was surprised when Paula told me to settle in since I would be there a while. I always see Paula and have never had a bad experience with her, she is friendly always on time and always asks about me and my family. This was an amazing hour, I feel asleep a few times waking myself up with my own snoring. Paula took her time and pampered my face with care and love. When she was done I was so relaxed and my face had such a glow. I was so impressed I took a selfie and sent it to a friend and she commented no wonder people think your still in college (I am in my late 40's) but I will take it. Not one to leave a bad review, but really wished I had known what to expect before going here for a pedicure. I usually go to any average nail salon but thought I was treating myself to a more upscale, relaxing pedicure given the upcharge compared to nail salons in the area. Unfortunately it was anything but. My nails were cut soo short, there was no massage (nor massage chair), and the polish was brushed on without much care. They advertise an hour long pedicure, but it took 20 min. Just bummed. Maybe their other services are fine but would not recommend for nail services. read more

I can only speak to their IPL services, not their waxing or facials... I came to Sasha Salon in August for IPL on my underarms. The Eastern European lady who attended to me spent a great deal of time on the consultation, inquiring about my 'sun practices', how long I'd been waxing/shaving, any antibiotic or medicated ointment use, what I'd eaten that day, etc. After such a thorough conversation, she tested my skin for sensitivity and began the IPL session. Increasing the strength of the IPL slowly, we spent perhaps an hour together. The service was great, the cost was a little pricey ($140), and I went away thinking of purchasing a 6-session package on my return. Fast-forward to last Saturday, after eight months of IPL-hopping (I especially recommend the Ministry of Waxing, in New York and London), and I found myself outside Sasha Salon again. Unfortunately, the lady who attended to me in August was not around (and it is for her that I give this salon more than one star), so I had 'Paula' instead. Paula didn't give me much of a consultation. Paula was working against some interior clock that I wasn't privy to. Paula asked very curtly if I'd been in the sun recently, before attacking my underarms with gusto. When I began to suggest the IPL felt much more intense and painful than I remembered, Paula told me she was using the same intensity as 'the number on the chart when you came in August.' It hurt a LOT at the time, but the pain seemed to have subsided by the time I paid. I remember thinking the $140 price tag was a lot, but I wasn't keen to purchase a 6-session package. On my way home (30 minutes on the T), my underarms began to heat up remarkably quickly. It soon felt like they were burning. I had to use the coldness of my bottle of ice tea to soothe the pain, but I wasn't sure I'd be able to make it all the way home. Tears of pain and frustration began to well up - my underarms were on fire, and it felt like there was nerve/tissue damage too. By the time I got home, my entire upper body was shaking with pain. Thankfully my housemate was around to pack my underarms with ice, but it still didn't solve the problem. So she called them... - "Hello? Sasha Salon? My housemate just had an IPL session with you on her underarms, and she's in a SEVERE amount of pain." - "Anouska? Yes, we saw her." - "Yes, like I said, she's in a severe amount of pain." - "Oh, why?" - "She feels like her underarms are on fire and there's a deep ache located in the tissues beneath. She's in a LOT of pain. What should she do?" - "Can she come in?" - "No, she's in too much pain to move. What should she do?" - "I've never heard anything like that. Maybe she perspired and that's causing some stinging?" - "NO, she came straight home from the salon, and she's in a SEVERE amount of pain." - "I'm going to put you on hold for a second, as there's another call coming through..." - "What?! No! My housemate is in a LOT of pain and we think she needs to go to the doctor; don't put us on hold!" - "Oh, ok. Well we've never heard of anything like it." - "Great, thanks. You've been a lot of help." After three-four hours of constant ice packs, applications of aloe vera, and several ibuprofen pills, the pain subsided. My underarms began to turn dark red and developed a strange texture. Four days later, I still have surface pain and an inability to move my arms as much as I would like to. I want to love this place, being my namesake and all, but they really are terrible. I got a pedicure, and I would say it was a 2 star pedicure if this was one of the cheap nail spots....but for a $40 pedi, I was seriously disappointed. First off, the massage chair was terrible- it just loudly vibrated, I had to turn it off. There was little foot and no calf massage, and the little she did was very ticklish. I'm not a particularly ticklish person, so if you can't give me a proper foot massage, that's pretty bad! She reapplied the second coat immediately, without allowing the first to dry. She would wait for me to hand her my feet, rather than guide them herself, so I had to be paying attention rather than relaxing and reading. The whole "45 minute pedicure" took around 25 minutes. And finally, this is a spa (charging spa prices), but nobody offered me water or anything! Maybe the waxing or massages are fine, but for pedicures or nails- stay away! read more

I am downgrading my review to 4 stars. It would be 3, but I don't really have the heart when my facials are still great. Both Olga and Nadia have left the salon which makes me so sad. They were the whole reason I go to Sasha! Both of them were too nice to say why they left but I am 99% sure it's because of the harsh business practices of the owner, which I've experienced first hand with the many receptionists who've come in an out. I was seriously considering not coming back after Olga left, but Nadia had left a couple months previously and Mary Kate started taking care of me. Mary Kate is a lovely person who does a great facial. The four stars are only for her. If she leaves I definitely won't be coming back. I stopped getting my nails done here and am now up at The Beauty Spa at Porter. Will do a review for them soon. They are awesome! Still, Olga has no replacement. Maybe it's because I'm Russian, but Lena really loves me... and worries about my face and apologizes for extractions taking longer than I find bearable. I came to her with a clogged face - we're talking years of cloggage because I was scared to go again due to a BAD job years ago. This is not a pleasant process. Well I guess the first part is kind of nice when she massages my face and washes it and la la la... But this woman loves her job. LOVES it. Especially extractions. Which is why she attacks every pore like it has three seconds left to live. And this is not pleasant. In fact it hurts. Example: "Oh she's getting closer, I see her fingers coming together and... OW. I POP MY PIMPLES ALL OF THE TIME AND IT NEVER OWWWW FEELS LIKE THIS." Yea that's kind of what it's like. She couldn't finish cleaning my face in the hour we had together. It was that bad. And I looked pretty terrifying after with my splotchy face (no worries, I scared everyone at Berry Line but WHATEVA I WANTED SOME YOGURT) BUT... the next day most of the redness was gone. And.. Is that a glow I see? Oh my, my pores do look kind of nice. I'm not sexy yet, but I will be. And for serious, there has been a definite change in my face. I've gone to her twice thus far and my problem areas have significantly cleared up. Plus she doesn't try to sell me the products which I LOVE. I've got my own stuff. And I'm a college student, betch. $70 for an hour facial, tips must be cash only Do it. Russians know that pain is beauty. read more

I got an initial laser facial (over $200) and before getting it, I got a consultation. The woman explained the results I could expect to be realistic and she was great. I was very happy with the result. I called back to buy a package (about another $800) and the receptionist didn't know what a laser facial was and I had to explain which is ridiculous that I had to explain the service she is responsible for scheduling. I made my appointment and a few days later I got a call from the receptionist saying that there wasn't going to be enough time for me to have the appointment and fill out paperwork. I explained that I filled it out during my first visit. Well, they lost it. The receptionist was kind of abrupt, and clearly didn't know what was going on. I decided to pass based on customer service alone. Must be nice for Sasha Salon they don't have to give good service and can turn off $1,000 customers. read more

Just finished 5 rounds of laser hair removal on my legs. I feel like it was a waste of time and money at this point. I still have hair/stubble on my legs even though I'm the perfect candidate, pale with dark hair (also, I wasn't very hairy to begin with). For my appointments, sometimes I was made to wait up to 15 minutes without explanation. I feel like if I make the effort to be on time so should they. (sidenote: the girl who performed the removal admitted SHE doesn't even go there for her hair removal.) It's not the worst place but I bet there is better out there. read more

On many occasions, Sasha Salon & Spa has made what is typically an extremely unpleasant experience almost (easy, I said ALMOST) enjoyable. The staff are very sweet and calming, the salon is clean, and they use hard wax. It's better, trust me. I have always been able to get an appointment, even on short notice. Prices are incredibly reasonable for some services and a bit pricey for others - it's worth taking a look at the services and prices beforehand. You'll be in and out quick, without much awkwardness. That's what she said. Also, it's right next to Berryline. Which you're gonna need. No matter how professional or lovely the place is, said experience really can never be more than ALMOST enjoyable. read more

Dear ladies of Cambridge/Somerville/Boston/etc., I know that after reading this review, you're going to be tempted to run right to the phone, and book an appointment at Sasha Salon. But please, consider my beauty needs, and leave some appointments available for me. Thank you kindly. Allow me to let you in on a little secret. Years ago, I used to get microdermabrasion done at my dermatologist's office. And I was pretty sure it was the first stop on the road to hell. Lying on an exam table under bright lights, while getting tiny sand particles blasted onto my skin? No thanks. But now that I get microderm done at Sasha Salon, I leave everytime with tears of joy in my eyes. You would too, if you had just spent half an hour lying under a blanket, in a dimly lit room with music playing softly. I see Lena, and I'm not one to jump into relationships, but...she's probably the best thing that's ever happened to me. She knows I can handle the slight discomfort of the microdermabrasion, but still always asks if the pressure is okay. She soothes my skin with lotion afterwards, covers my eyes, and lets me relax. And then...and then comes the best part. It's so good that I'm hesitant to even share it. But here goes. While I'm lying there, in all my relaxed glory, Lena gives me a shoulder and neck massage. That's right. A massage. It's just for a few minutes, but it makes my body scream out in joy. I also go to Lena for my brazilian bikini wax needs. We chat while she's doing her thing, and it's never awkward. Unlike some other salon I've gotten waxed at, where the esthetician found it necessary to ask me about my piercing the entire time (yes, I'm pierced down there. Get over it.) read more

I've been getting facials from Erika for the past few months and I can't believe how much my skin has improved. They use this weird machine in there and I still don't really know what it is but it makes the fillings in my teeth feel funny... and also does a fantastic job of cleaning my skin out. No need for tons of painful extractions! My facials at Sasha have been the best I've ever had, 1) because of that weird face cleaning machine and 2) Erika is super cool. She is a great conversationalist, actually listened when I told her what was going on with my skin, and recommended (but didn't push) some products that actually worked. read more

So I went here on Friday (5/4/2012) because of all the great reviews on Yelp. I got a brazilian wax. I will never, ever go back. And it was $69, not even counting tip which could easily bring it to $85, wtf, other places in this city is $30 for a better job. - Although she was a very polite person, she was messy and disgusting; terribly unprofessional in conduct. Instead of having a little side table, she kept the wax pot at the end of the table by my feet, so EVERY SINGLE time she dipped the stick in and then brought the hot wax covered stick up to my vag to apply, she dripped wax all the way up my leg. And she never cleaned it - or apologized, so when I got home I had to wash multiple trails of wax off my leg. Wtf? - After ripping the wax off (it was hard wax), she just threw the hairy gross chunks of wax at the end of the table. Twice, she put the stick down at the end of the table, and when she picked it back up a hairy gross wax chunk was stuck to it, and she somehow managed to not notice and said hairy gross wax chunk fell on me. First, wtf that's disgusting to have fall on me, second, that's seriously unsanitary to never change the stick (not even when we switched to the back) and to just put the stick down in a pile of used hairy wax chunks by my feet. Wtf. - After she finished, she tweezed a bit, and I thought, great she's tweezing! Then I got home and looked, and she missed SO MUCH hair. At least one hair every centimeter. They're short, only 1/8 inch, so I understand they didn't get ripped up with the wax, but seriously SHE TWEEZED. WHAT DID SHE TWEEZE IF ALL THE HAIR IS STILL HERE. So I had to spend another half an hour when I got home tweezing. - So I went on Friday. It's Sunday - it's been two days. THE HAIR IS GROWING BACK WHAT THE HELL IT'S ONLY BEEN TWO DAYS. - She didn't stretch my skin taut, so when she ripped away the wax, it still hurt like a bitch even though it was hard wax and babypowdered (the only pro was the liberal use of baby powder). Maybe all the great reviews of this place are for a different person, because my experience was unprofessional and sloppy. I would not be back for $20, let alone the freaking $70 that I had to drop. read more

I'm very impressed. It's not just anyone I'll let rip my hair out by the root and pay for them to do it, but a friend (and Yelp) recommended Sasha Salon and I'm glad I went. Marykate was friendly, funny, and made the whole process a lot easier. I've never gone to someone who uses hard wax instead of soft with the strips, but it actually hurt a lot less. I was also impressed by how concerned Marykate was about cleanliness and avoiding ingrown hairs and infection. It wasn't cheap, but the price was reasonable for what I got, and they do have a 10% discount for students. I certainly plan on coming back. read more

I had to write an update because of my stellar experience yesterday. I really needed a facial so I called on Thursday and was able to book an appointment with Lena on Friday. From the beginning of the experience to the end, I was smiling because Lena is AMAZING. I had originally booked an ultrasonic facial but Lena said I'd probably need a deep pore cleansing (with manual extractions) so she kinda combined the two and did a little with the ultrasonic machine as well as some manual extractions. She was able to clear out some pesky pores and cysts that facialists at other salons were not able to do. She even gave me a tiny sample of their drying lotion and to take home, and that stuff is pretty powerful. Somehow I came out of the salon and my skin was actually GLOWING. I've had facials here before, and they were great, but I came out of this facial with Lena and yes, I had some red marks (I had some pretty ridiculous extractions that had to be made) but my skin has looked the best it has in a couple of months. I am amazed. I am SO happy with my experience with Lena! The only downside to the experience was the lady at the front desk...who didn't seem like she wanted to be there and wasn't very nice. read more
