Perhaps some of the worst customer service ever.
I brought my wedding set in to be re-sized on May 2. I told the woman that one ring was platinum and one was 14k white gold. We ascertained the current size of the rings, and with her assistance, selected the new size. I asked for an estimate of cost for the process -- she checked her sheet and told me that the cost would be about $45 per ring. I was told that because the jeweler was heading out on vacation, my rings would not be ready until May 16. She filled out the little envelope with the information and the date of pick-up and out I went.
Fast forward to May 16, when I walk in to pick up my rings. A different woman is at the counter who goes in the back to find my set. Nope. Not in the 'completed' box. Huh. She finds my rings in the 'to be done' box. Huh. Now I am getting annoyed -- I ask why they aren't done when I was told that they'd be ready on the 16th. She tells me that because I didn't SAY that I wanted them done on the 16th, the woman who took them in didn't circle the date in red on the order form. Why would I SAY I wanted them done on the 16th when I was TOLD they'd be ready on the 16th? So, it's really MY fault they weren't ready. Now I am more annoyed and ask by when will they be ready this time. The woman says the earliest they'd be done is the 19th. Fine, I tell her I'll be back on the 19th. Oh no, she says -- I didn't say they'd BE ready on the 19th, I said the earliest they MIGHT be ready is on the 19th. Don't come back until we call you.
Fast forward now to the 20th. I received no call on the 19th, and no call on the 20th, but at 4:30pm decided that ready or not, I was taking my rings back.
I walk in and there is yet another woman at the desk. I ask for my rings. Not done... but being worked on currently. While waiting, she starts to fill out my receipt. As I am watching her, I see that she has written $56 for the 14k ring and $107 next to the platinum ring, and subtotals at over $160! I am now fuming mad and ask why so expensive when I was quoted $45 per ring. WELL, one was platinum, she says... Yes, I told her that I had let the woman know that on May2. AND well, they needed to be sized up 2.25 sized... Yes, the woman on May 2 told me that.
This, combined with the incident on May 16, has me livid. I tell her all about my prior visits. She was wonderful and understood my frustration and asked that I wait until the jeweler was done with my rings and we'd speak with her.
As I am telling her why I am so frustrated and angry, I see the woman I had dealt with on the 16th was on the other side of the store assisting another customer. That woman decides she needs to chime in and says - from across the store - You know, people make mistakes.. maybe in your world people don't, but in the real world they do. Maybe you are fortunate enough to be one of those people who never makes mistakes. REALLY? So now I'm being insulted! I've been bullied, lied to, blamed, and now insulted. The poor woman by whom I was being helped apologized for the other woman's comments.
The jeweler finally comes out to the front and starts to once again show me the pricing list -- I don't need to see it, I have now thoroughly been schooled on the pricing policy. I start to tell my story again when she said that it was her wife who had originally taken in my rings on May 2 and jewelry isn't her area of expertise. Um, she's representing your shop, your products, your craftmanship, and you, and jewelry isn't her area of expertise????
At this point, I am feeling like there has been a bait-and-switch scheme that I have fallen in to -- the work is done, they have my rings, and the cost is now near double what I was quoted. The jeweler, who is now extremely defensive snaps at me that there's no way she can give them back to me for $90. She scribbles some numbers on my receipt, pushes the paper towards me and says this is the best she can do and walks away. The revised amount is $125.
I pulled 2 $50 bills and a $25 gift card from my wallet and take my rings and am so thoroughly disgusted by the entire experience that I can't wait to get out of that little shop of horrors.
As I am preparing to leave, the woman with whom I was dealing apologized again -- which was funny to me because she was the only one in that shop who didn't do anything that warranted an apology. I apologized to her, as well, for she really did bear the brunt of my frustration. No one else apologized.. not the snarky woman who barked at me from across the shop, and not the jeweler who was snappy and rude.
I'll never, ever step foot into that shop again -- and would never recommend this business to anyone in need of any sort of jewelry repair or resize. I only wish I could give them zero stars. read more
