Good things shall never go unnoticed! I purchased John Richards lamps from IMI furniture months ago. The lamps had manufacture defect. IMI contacted John Richards to resolve the issue immediately. To cut the long story short, the process was extensive. It included an examination by their engineering dept. and redesign. Years ago we bought our first house. We were thrilled to have $10,000.00 to spend on furniture. We went to IMI. We were warmly welcomed and asked how much we had to spend. When IMI sales staff heard the amount their demeanor cooled. They dispersed and never spoke to us again. We finally left (and spent our money at Belfort as we have spent tens of thousands of dollars in the ensuing years). Good luck, IMI! It is so rewarding to watch you scrambling for crumbs. Great furniture store with so many options and a very helpful design staff!

We had an awesome experience- dining room table and chairs. Fernando was super helpful- helped with fabrics and selection- and helped me with pricing lots of other stuff. Great experience. We have been checking so many furniture to buy. Finally, we found a dining table we loved so much and wanted to purchase immediately up until we were told about the USD150.00 delivery fee for a location that is 6 miles away. Our table cost was not little at all. We mentioned our concerns about the delivery fee. The saleperson cared less. Due to lack of being friendly and not willing to understand the situation, we just walked away. That was a very sudden but very wise decison. Their attitude was like "my way or highway" . We went to Sheffield at Dulles instead and guess what! Not only we got a better price for the table, but also the delivery cost was USD95.00 and much friendlier staff on top of all. We placed our order immediately with more other stuff.. IMI's delivery charge just for 1 table to a place 6 miles away is rediculuous.. we have been looking at many highend furnutire stores and IMI is the only one that has such high delivery cost. But thank you overall.. Their unfriendly attitude made us save money.. and never ever going back in there.. read more

Buyer Beware..... while the showroom is really very lovely and the sales people were helpful, we received very poor service with regard to an exchange. While we accepted the issue was on us with regard to an incorrect measurement, we were extremely dissatisfied with the managers response to our issue. We presented all sorts of options that would help us resolve the issue and our request fell on deaf ears. We can't recommend them to anyone at this point. read more

We purchased quite a few furniture items and I cannot tell you how satisfied and pleased my wife and I are for the incredible service we received. very professional and courteous. Our design/sales representative Fred was very knowledgeable, did not pressure us to make any purchases and ensured that we were completely satisfied prior to making any purchases. A year after we purchased a formal dining room set, an accidental spill of liquid (stain) damaged the top of the table. when I called IMI, Fred immediately connected my with Diama, who handles their repair section. Although we did not purchase the extended warranty, Diama immediately got into action, called the manufacturer to see if the stain can be fixed. After finding out it could not be done, she did not let go and starting researching her inventory to see if there is a replacement that she could swap. She found one and replaced it at no cost (only paid shipping). This is what I consider excellent customer service and would not hesitate a bit to shop anytime at IMI. Thank you read more

I have several pieces from IMI that I really like. It's unique, but I agree with the comment about customer service. I bought a rug from IMI. The rug took almost 3 months to deliver. This is not IMI's fault rather the manufacturer. However, during those 3 months, I found the EXACT same rug on Rugs Direct for almost $600 less. I called IMI and asked them to match the price or cancel my order. They didn't do either. They said I was stuck w/ my order. This was ridiculous. Had I ordered from Rugs Direct, I could have easily cancelled my order for no charge. And free shipping!!!! I was absolutely frustrated with their lack of service. They also charged me for rug samples!! Even if I paid return shipping of those samples, they were going to charge me for it. Luckily I was able to cancel this order, but was still charged $100 for shipping. Again, RIDICULOUS! I gave 3 stars only because I like their piece, but would give it 1 star for service. Not service from the sales people as they were super nice, rather service from management on being flexible w/ customers. read more

I was compelled to express overwhelming satisfaction and appreciation with the people in this company. The furniture and other merchandise they sell is also top notch, but the service they provide sets them apart! Regarding my personal experience, I was initially referred to this store by a colleague who has high standards when it comes to furniture/ décor items. She was upfront and told me they are a about 45 mins or so outside of DC and their merchandise can be a bit pricey compared to "big-box" furniture stores, but if you want beautiful, high-quality furniture and excellent service and attention then I needed to make a trip to IMI Furniture. She had gone there a few years ago looking for a unique iron-rod bed frame. She said that the person helping her was super attentive and spent much of the afternoon sitting down with her learning about what she was looking for and ultimately sitting down and sketching with her an illustration of it. Then, they were able to find a vendor that did semi-custom pieces and was able to make just what she was looking for. She went on about just how patient and helpful they were and really cared about her finding what she had envisioned. So, I ventured out to their store not far from Dulles, and was initially impressed by their inventory. They don't sell "average" pieces - if you but something there it's very, very unlikely that you'll ever see it elsewhere but it is very, very likely that you get compliments from others about it. You can tell the attention to detail and the quality of the items they sell, but what is even more impressive and valuable is their customer service, knowledge, and experience. Their staff is made up of true professionals of their trade and they conduct business as if they were the customer. We've all been to store where it is obvious that the person(s) they don't like their job, doesn't want to be there or is just trying to sell you anything and get you out of their hair - and it comes across in how you are treated. Well the folks are IMI Furniture are the complete opposite of that. They want you to be happy when all is said and done, and go the extra mile to make sure that you are. For example, I purchased a semi-custom made headboard and the person I worked with (Gwen) spent the better part of the afternoon showing samples, websites, and discussing all the many options until we put together what I was looking for. She also gave me some get advice and guidance that that made it evident she thoroughly knew her craft, knew specifics about the various vendors, and had been in the industry for some time. Fast-forward a few months to when I received the item, overall it was beautiful but they was an issue with how the middle seam line of the upholstery aligned with the middle line where there was a divide in the mirror. It was about more about aesthetics and the symmetry how they aligned, but when you looked at it, your eyes were drawn to that area that was "off" in terms of alignment. Moreover, it was not how the item was shown in their pictures or what I was expecting (due to that issue). So, I contacted IMF and spoke to Gwen who relayed my concerns to Diama (their customer relations specialist) AND champion of her clients. I also emailed pictures along with the delivery personnel of the areas on the item related to the issue. She agreed that the item was not made properly and communicated this point to the vendor. The vendor did agree the item was not as it should've been, but the vendor wanted the item sent back, to try and "fix" it. Well, Diama made the case to them and emphasized that I should not be further inconvenienced by have items shipped back and forth and have to wait for a few more months with no headboard - especially considering I paid a decent sum for the product. She really pushed for the vendor to make this right and was really an advocate for me in this situation. Her efforts made for a very prompt response from the vendor and an easy, stress-free, resolution to the issue! Therefore, I'm writing this feedback because everyone I interacted with at IMI Furniture (sales, delivery, etc.) were a pleasure to work with and consistently showed why they are special. It is rare today to be able to do business with an organization and people that do things the right way because it is what they believe in, that treat customers the way they would want to be treated, and go all out to make every effort to achieve their customer's satisfaction. It is refreshing to know these type companies (and people) still exist and a delight to share it with other potential clients so that hopefully they can continue to do all the things they do best for a long time to come. If you're in the DC area and looking for great furniture and wonderful service; make the trip to their store - you'll be glad you did! read more

I have purchased several pieces over the years. The only problem you might run into at the store is its price tags. All I can say is that while the prices are high, there are no rip-offs: every piece I've bought is heirloom quality, and I expect to have them for many decades into the future. read more

I used three methods provided on their web site to try to get information on furniture items shown on their site - the "Contact Us" form, the "Request More Information" link on the item pages, and the email address found on the "Contact Us" page. Only the last resulted in a response. I did get an email back requesting more details in order to let me know the price of one of the two items that I was interested in. I sent the requested details and a reminder to send info. about the second item as well. I never received additional information on either item. In the meantime, I found similar items at another store that was more responsive and purchased them. Was not impressed in this first experience with IMI's customer service. read more

I am a particular shopper when it comes to value and client satisfaction. IMI has a beautiful show room with great quality furniture. The sales folks are very knowledgable and the client satisfaction is better than any where I have ever purchased furniture. I have purchased all my new furniture from IMI. Also, the delivery folks are fantastic. The owner, Fernando is great to work with and takes care of his clients to ensure they are completely satisfied. I believe IMI furniture mistreated us we bought an expensive furniture, we put most of the money down and we did not expect to receive a damaged furniture not only that, but they also implied that we were lying and their delivery guys are telling the truth. They tried to fix the damage when their delivery guys fond that they can't fix, they said you did it , so we're not fixing or replacing. I think you should think twice before you buy anything from IMI furniture, and I can't recommended to anyone read more

Ditto on what the previous reviewer said. We ordered an office set Memorial Day weekend in 2012. It is now mid-February 2013 and we still have not received it, yet we have already paid for the whole thing. At first the furniture was on back order, then when it came in, it wasn't correct. First delivery date was supposed to be in June. They sent it back. Wait another couple of months - September, the new furniture is in. Great! We set up a delivery and when it gets to our house, the pieces don't match, it is poorly built with gaps. If they thought this was ok to deliver, I'm really worried what it looked like in June the first time around. Since this has gone on so long, they told us to keep the mismatched pieces until they get the correct ones in so we at least have something. 3 more months go by, get a call in December, still on backorder, maybe February. There has been no recourse, no consideration, not even a phone call from the manager. All the customer service person would say is well there's no guarantee on delivery times and that this is normal. think that I am a reasonable person - 8-12 weeks is what we were told, that is reasonable and I was willing to wait, but 8-12 months is a completely different story. Every time we talk to the customer service person, her comments are rude and snotty, like we are lucky to be dealing with them. Don't waste your time, money, or raise your blood pressure, it isn't worth it. I would rather have a $20 table from the thrift store at this point than have to deal with IMI ever again. Furniture was nothing special and overly priced. The salesperson was nice.

This store has atrocious customer service. Nobody greets you at the door and even after roaming the store for about ten minutes, salesperson ignored me while she kept talking on the phone and walking around the store purposelessly. This brought back all bad past experience memories with the store when after ordering something special order, the store immediately delivered a floor model which had no resemblance to the custom colors we had selected. When we pointed that out to them, they tried to convince us those were the right colors, and accents (we had asked for gold trim and there was none on the item they delivered, no trim: not gold, not copper, not silver). The piece they delivered had heavy "antique" look - basically tons of holes poked into the furniture, and that is exactly the look I hate, there was no way I would have wanted that, nor ordered that. that was easily provable as thank good they give you a copy of the (handwritten) order... To be fair they took it back and delivered the custom piece after 12 weeks, as expected. They also sold us a protection/ warranty plan on a silk sofa for about $200.00 - when we called the company that was supposed to honor it with a request to clean the stains, this protection company told me, we do not cover silk sofas, they should have not sold you that. .Avoid at any cost. There are gazillions of furniture stores around that area where people actually will be grateful to do business with you. read more

I had a horrible experience with IMI Furniture in Sterling and will never shop there again. I ordered a custom dining room table and chairs from the company. The dining room table that I received did not match the specifications that the IMI designer and I discussed. According to the customer service manager, the designer abandoned her job. Still, IMI took the word of a fired former employee over mine. The owner, Fernando Rodriques, refused to take my calls and ignored emails and snail mail. I have been to this store many times and will probably keep coming back. Our salesperson/designer is Gwen and she was a huge help in selecting our furniture as she has great taste and understood our preferences very well. Some reviewer complained about the price being high but I believe that has more to do with the brands of furniture you select since they go from moderately priced to expensive. Your salesperson should help you stay within your budget. We purchased mostly items from berndhardt (middle of the road) and hickory white (higher endish) and were very satisfied with the quality of the furniture and to make it even better this is all made is the US. I would rather work with a store like this where a designer can help you put together your furniture from different sources (brands) rather than use ID services from RH or EA where they just source what they have in their brand catalog.
